Yahweh’s word came to me again, saying,The word of Jehovah came unto me again, saying,
“ What do you mean, that you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, ‘ The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge’?What mean ye, that ye use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge?
“ As I live,” says the Lord Yahweh, “ you shall not use this proverb any more in Israel. As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, ye shall not have occasion any more to use this proverb in Israel.
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine. The soul who sins, he shall die.Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
“ But if a man is just, and does that which is lawful and right,But if a man be just, and do that which is lawful and right,그러나 어떤 사람이 의로워서 법과 정의에 맞게 행하며,
and has not eaten on the mountains, hasn’t lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hasn’t defiled his neighbor’s wife, hasn’t come near a woman in her impurity, and hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, neither hath defiled his neighbor’s wife, neither hath come near to a woman in her impurity,산당에서 제물을 먹지 않고, 이스라엘 집의 우상들에게 눈을 들지 않으며, 이웃의 아내를 더럽히지 않고, 월경 중인 여인에게 가까이하지 않으며,
and has not wronged any, but has restored to the debtor his pledge, has taken nothing by robbery, has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;and hath not wronged any, but hath restored to the debtor his pledge, hath taken nought by robbery, hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;아무도 학대하지 않고 빚진 자에게 그의 담보물을 돌려주며, 강도질로 빼앗지 않고, 주린 자에게 자기 양식을 나눠 주며, 헐벗은 자를 옷으로 입혀 주고,
he who hasn’t lent to them with interest, hasn’t taken any increase from them, who has withdrawn his hand from iniquity, has executed true justice between man and man,he that hath not given forth upon interest, neither hath taken any increase, that hath withdrawn his hand from iniquity, hath executed true justice between man and man,이자를 받으려고 꾸어 주지 않으며 변리를 취하지 않고, 죄악에서 손을 거두며, 사람과 사람 사이에 참된 정의를 행하고,
has walked in my statutes, and has kept my ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live,” says the Lord Yahweh.hath walked in my statutes, and hath kept mine ordinances, to deal truly; he is just, he shall surely live, saith the Lord Jehovah.
“ If he fathers a son who is a robber who sheds blood, and who does any one of these things,If he beget a son that is a robber, a shedder of blood, and that doeth any one of these things,만일 그가 아들을 낳았는데 그 아들이 강도이며 피를 흘리는 자요, 이런 일들 가운데 하나라도 행하며,
or who does not do any of those things but has eaten at the mountain shrines and defiled his neighbor’s wife, and that doeth not any of those duties, but even hath eaten upon the mountains, and defiled his neighbor’s wife,(앞서 말한) 그 의무들은 하나도 행하지 않고 도리어 산당에서 제물을 먹으며 이웃의 아내를 더럽히고,
has wronged the poor and needy, has taken by robbery, has not restored the pledge, and has lifted up his eyes to the idols, has committed abomination, hath wronged the poor and needy, hath taken by robbery, hath not restored the pledge, and hath lifted up his eyes to the idols, hath committed abomination,가난하고 궁핍한 자를 학대하며 강도질로 빼앗고 담보물을 돌려주지 않으며, 우상들에게 눈을 들고 가증한 일을 행하며,
has lent with interest, and has taken increase from the poor, shall he then live? He shall not live. He has done all these abominations. He shall surely die. His blood will be on him.hath given forth upon interest, and hath taken increase; shall he then live? he shall not live: he hath done all these abominations; he shall surely die; his blood shall be upon him.
“ Now, behold, if he fathers a son who sees all his father’s sins which he has done, and fears, and doesn’t do likewise,Now, lo, if he beget a son, that seeth all his father’s sins, which he hath done, and feareth, and doeth not such like;그런데 보아라, 만일 그가 아들을 낳았는데, 그 아들이 자기 아버지가 행한 모든 죄를 보고 두려워하여 그와 같이 행하지 않으며,
who hasn’t eaten on the mountains, hasn’t lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hasn’t defiled his neighbor’s wife, that hath not eaten upon the mountains, neither hath lifted up his eyes to the idols of the house of Israel, hath not defiled his neighbor’s wife,산당에서 제물을 먹지 않고, 이스라엘 집의 우상들에게 눈을 들지 않으며, 이웃의 아내를 더럽히지 않고,
hasn’t wronged any, hasn’t taken anything to pledge, hasn’t taken by robbery, but has given his bread to the hungry, and has covered the naked with a garment;neither hath wronged any, hath not taken aught to pledge, neither hath taken by robbery, but hath given his bread to the hungry, and hath covered the naked with a garment;아무도 학대하지 않으며, 담보물을 잡지 않고, 강도질로 빼앗지 않으며, 주린 자에게 자기 양식을 나눠 주고, 헐벗은 자를 옷으로 입혀 주며,
who has withdrawn his hand from the poor, who hasn’t received interest or increase, has executed my ordinances, has walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father. He shall surely live.that hath withdrawn his hand from the poor, that hath not received interest nor increase, hath executed mine ordinances, hath walked in my statutes; he shall not die for the iniquity of his father, he shall surely live.
As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he will die in his iniquity. As for his father, because he cruelly oppressed, robbed his brother, and did that which is not good among his people, behold, he shall die in his iniquity.
“ Yet you say, ‘ Why doesn’t the son bear the iniquity of the father?’ When the son has done that which is lawful and right, and has kept all my statutes, and has done them, he will surely live.Yet say ye, Wherefore doth not the son bear the iniquity of the father? When the son hath done that which is lawful and right, and hath kept all my statutes, and hath done them, he shall surely live.
The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be on him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be on him.The soul that sinneth, it shall die: the son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son; the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
“ But if the wicked turns from all his sins that he has committed, and keeps all my statutes, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live. He shall not die.But if the wicked turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
None of his transgressions that he has committed will be remembered against him. In his righteousness that he has done, he shall live.None of his transgressions that he hath committed shall be remembered against him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked?” says the Lord Yahweh, “ and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked? saith the Lord Jehovah; and not rather that he should return from his way, and live?
“ But when the righteous turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and does according to all the abominations that the wicked man does, should he live? None of his righteous deeds that he has done will be remembered. In his trespass that he has trespassed, and in his sin that he has sinned, in them he shall die.But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? None of his righteous deeds that he hath done shall be remembered: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
“ Yet you say, ‘ The way of the Lord is not equal.’ Hear now, house of Israel: Is my way not equal? Aren’t your ways unequal?Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel: Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?
When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies in it, then he dies in his iniquity that he has done. When the righteous man turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and dieth therein; in his iniquity that he hath done shall he die.
Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he will save his soul alive.Again, when the wicked man turneth away from his wickedness that he hath committed, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.
Because he considers, and turns away from all his transgressions that he has committed, he shall surely live. He shall not die.Because he considereth, and turneth away from all his transgressions that he hath committed, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
Yet the house of Israel says, ‘ The way of the Lord is not fair.’ House of Israel, aren’t my ways fair? Aren’t your ways unfair?Yet saith the house of Israel, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, are not my ways equal? are not your ways unequal?
“ Therefore I will judge you, house of Israel, everyone according to his ways,” says the Lord Yahweh. “ Return, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions, so iniquity will not be your ruin. Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, saith the Lord Jehovah. Return ye, and turn yourselves from all your transgressions; so iniquity shall not be your ruin.
Cast away from you all your transgressions in which you have transgressed; and make yourself a new heart and a new spirit. For why will you die, house of Israel?Cast away from you all your transgressions, wherein ye have transgressed; and make you a new heart and a new spirit: for why will ye die, O house of Israel?
For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies,” says the Lord Yahweh. “ Therefore turn yourselves, and live! For I have no pleasure in the death of him that dieth, saith the Lord Jehovah: wherefore turn yourselves, and live.
