1 “ Come down and sit in the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon. Sit on the ground without a throne, daughter of the Chaldeans. For you will no longer be called tender and delicate.Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon; sit on the ground without a throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate.“바벨론의 처녀 딸아, 내려와서 티끌 위에 앉아라. 갈대아 사람의 딸아, 보좌 없이 땅바닥에 앉아라. 다시는 네가 곱고 연약한 여인이라 불리지 못할 것이다.
2 Take the millstones and grind flour. Remove your veil, lift up your skirt, uncover your legs, and wade through the rivers.Take the millstones, and grind meal; remove thy veil, strip off the train, uncover the leg, pass through the rivers.맷돌을 가져다가 곡식을 갈아라. 너울을 벗고 치맛자락을 걷어 올리며 다리를 드러내고 강을 건너라.
3 Your nakedness will be uncovered. Yes, your shame will be seen. I will take vengeance, and will spare no one.”Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and will spare no man.네 벌거벗은 몸이 드러나고 네 수치가 보일 것이다. 내가 원수를 갚되 한 사람도 그냥 두지 않으리라.”
4 Our Redeemer, Yahweh of Armies is his name, is the Holy One of Israel.Our Redeemer, Jehovah of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel.우리를 구속하시는 분, 그분의 이름은 만군의 여호와, 이스라엘의 거룩하신 분이시다.
5 “ Sit in silence, and go into darkness, daughter of the Chaldeans. For you shall no longer be called the mistress of kingdoms.Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans; for thou shalt no more be called The mistress of kingdoms.“갈대아 사람의 딸아, 잠잠히 앉아 어둠 속으로 들어가라. 다시는 네가 여러 나라의 여주인이라 불리지 못할 것이다.
6 I was angry with my people. I profaned my inheritance and gave them into your hand. You showed them no mercy. You laid a very heavy yoke on the aged.I was wroth with my people, I profaned mine inheritance, and gave them into thy hand: thou didst show them no mercy; upon the aged hast thou very heavily laid thy yoke.내가 내 백성에게 진노하여 내 기업을 더럽히고 그들을 네 손에 넘겨주었더니, 너는 그들에게 긍휼을 베풀지 않고 늙은이에게까지 네 멍에를 몹시 무겁게 지웠다.
7 You said, ‘ I will be a princess forever,’ so that you didn’t lay these things to your heart, nor did you remember the results.And thou saidst, I shall be mistress for ever; so that thou didst not lay these things to thy heart, neither didst remember the latter end thereof.너는 ‘내가 영원히 여주인이 되리라’ 말하며 이 일들을 마음에 두지 않았고 그 마지막 결말도 기억하지 않았다.
8 “ Now therefore hear this, you who are given to pleasures, who sit securely, who say in your heart, ‘ I am, and there is no one else besides me. I won’t sit as a widow, neither will I know the loss of children.’Now therefore hear this, thou that art given to pleasures, that sittest securely, that sayest in thy heart, I am, and there is none else besides me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children:그러므로 이제 이 말을 들어라. 쾌락에 빠져 안전하게 앉아 마음속으로 ‘오직 나뿐이요 나 외에는 아무도 없다. 나는 과부로 앉지 않을 것이며 자식 잃는 일도 당하지 않으리라’ 하는 자야.
9 But these two things will come to you in a moment in one day: the loss of children and widowhood. They will come on you in their full measure, in the multitude of your sorceries, and the great abundance of your enchantments.but these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood; in their full measure shall they come upon thee, in the multitude of thy sorceries, and the great abundance of thine enchantments.그러나 이 두 가지 일, 곧 자식을 잃는 일과 과부가 되는 일이 한순간에 하루 만에 네게 닥칠 것이다. 네 수많은 주술과 네 엄청난 마법에도 불구하고 그것들이 온전히 네게 임하리라.
10 For you have trusted in your wickedness. You have said, ‘ No one sees me.’ Your wisdom and your knowledge has perverted you. You have said in your heart, ‘ I am, and there is no one else besides me.’For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness; thou hast said, None seeth me; thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee, and thou hast said in thy heart, I am, and there is none else besides me.네가 네 악함을 의지하여 ‘나를 보는 자가 없다’ 하였구나. 네 지혜와 네 지식이 너를 미혹하여, 너는 마음속으로 ‘오직 나뿐이요 나 외에는 아무도 없다’ 하였다.
11 Therefore disaster will come on you. You won’t know when it dawns. Mischief will fall on you. You won’t be able to put it away. Desolation will come on you suddenly, which you don’t understand.Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know the dawning thereof: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it away: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou knowest not.그러므로 재앙이 네게 임하리니 너는 그것이 어디서 동트는지조차 알지 못할 것이다. 화가 네게 떨어지리니 너는 그것을 물리치지 못할 것이며, 멸망이 네가 알지 못하는 사이에 갑자기 네게 닥치리라.
12 “ Stand now with your enchantments and with the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored from your youth, as if you might profit, as if you might prevail.Stand now with thine enchantments, and with the multitude of thy sorceries, wherein thou hast labored from thy youth; if so be thou shalt be able to profit, if so be thou mayest prevail.자, 네가 어려서부터 수고하며 익혀 온 네 마법과 수많은 주술을 가지고 서 보아라. 혹시 네가 유익을 얻을 수 있을지, 혹시 네가 이겨 낼 수 있을지.
13 You are wearied in the multitude of your counsels. Now let the astrologers, the stargazers, and the monthly prognosticators stand up and save you from the things that will happen to you.Thou art wearied in the multitude of thy counsels: let now the astrologers, the star-gazers, the monthly prognosticators, stand up, and save thee from the things that shall come upon thee.너는 수많은 계략에 지쳤구나. 이제 천문가들, 별을 살피는 자들, 다달이 점치는 자들을 일으켜, 네게 닥칠 일들에서 너를 구원하게 해 보아라.
14 Behold, they are like stubble. The fire will burn them. They won’t deliver themselves from the power of the flame. It won’t be a coal to warm at or a fire to sit by.Behold, they shall be as stubble; the fire shall burn them; they shall not deliver themselves from the power of the flame: it shall not be a coal to warm at, nor a fire to sit before.보라, 그들은 지푸라기 같아서 불이 그들을 사를 것이며, 그들은 자기 몸을 불꽃의 힘에서 건져 내지 못할 것이다. 그것은 몸을 녹일 숯불도 아니요, 앞에 앉아 쬘 불도 아니다.
15 The things that you labored in will be like this: those who have trafficked with you from your youth will each wander in his own way. There will be no one to save you.Thus shall the things be unto thee wherein thou hast labored: they that have trafficked with thee from thy youth shall wander every one to his quarter; there shall be none to save thee.네가 수고하던 일들의 결말이 이러하리라. 어려서부터 너와 거래하던 자들이 각기 제 갈 길로 흩어질 것이니, 너를 구원할 자가 없으리라.
