1 Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria attacked all of the fortified cities of Judah and captured them.Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.히스기야 왕 십사 년에 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 유다의 모든 견고한 성읍들을 공격하여 함락시켰습니다.
2 The king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem to King Hezekiah with a large army. He stood by the aqueduct from the upper pool in the fuller’s field highway.And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field.앗수르 왕은 랍사게를 라기스에서 예루살렘으로 보내, 큰 군대를 거느리고 히스기야 왕에게 가게 했습니다. 그는 윗못의 수로 곁, 곧 세탁자의 밭으로 가는 큰길가에 섰습니다.
3 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph the recorder came out to him.Then came forth unto him Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder.그러자 왕궁 살림을 맡은 힐기야의 아들 엘리야김과 서기관 셉나와 역사 기록관인 아삽의 아들 요아가 그에게 나아왔습니다.
4 Rabshakeh said to them, “ Now tell Hezekiah, ‘ The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “ What confidence is this in which you trust?And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?랍사게가 그들에게 말했습니다. "이제 히스기야에게 전하여라. 위대한 왕, 곧 앗수르 왕께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. '네가 믿고 의지하는 그 확신이 도대체 무엇이냐?
5 I say that your counsel and strength for the war are only vain words. Now in whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?I say, thy counsel and strength for the war are but vain words: now on whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?내가 말하건대, 전쟁을 위한 너의 계략과 힘이라는 것은 한낱 헛된 말일 뿐이다. 그런데 지금 네가 누구를 믿고 나를 거역하느냐?
6 Behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt, which if a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust in him.Behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt, whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust on him.보아라, 너는 저 상한 갈대 지팡이 같은 이집트를 의지하고 있다. 사람이 그것을 의지하면 그 손을 찔러 꿰뚫어 버린다. 이집트 왕 바로는 자기를 의지하는 모든 사람에게 바로 그러하다.
7 But if you tell me, ‘ We trust in Yahweh our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘ You shall worship before this altar’?”But if thou say unto me, We trust in Jehovah our God: is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?그러나 만일 네가 나에게 '우리는 우리 하나님 여호와를 의지한다'고 말한다면, 그분이야말로 히스기야가 그 산당들과 제단들을 헐어 버리고 유다와 예루살렘에게 「너희는 이 제단 앞에서만 예배하라」고 말한 바로 그분이 아니냐?'
8 Now therefore, please make a pledge to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses, if you are able on your part to set riders on them.Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.그러니 이제 내 주 앗수르 왕과 내기를 해 보아라. 네가 말 탈 사람을 세울 수만 있다면, 내가 너에게 말 이천 마리를 주겠다.
9 How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust in Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?How then canst thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?그런데 네가 어떻게 내 주의 종들 가운데 가장 작은 지휘관 하나조차 물리칠 수 있겠느냐? 그러면서도 너는 병거와 기병을 얻으려고 이집트를 의지하느냐?
10 Have I come up now without Yahweh against this land to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, “ Go up against this land, and destroy it.”’”And am I now come up without Jehovah against this land to destroy it? Jehovah said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.게다가 내가 여호와의 뜻 없이 이 땅을 멸하려고 올라온 줄 아느냐? 여호와께서 나에게 「이 땅으로 올라가서 멸하라」고 말씀하셨다.'"
11 Then Eliakim, Shebna and Joah said to Rabshakeh, “ Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. Don’t speak to us in the Jews’ language in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.그러자 엘리야김과 셉나와 요아가 랍사게에게 말했습니다. "제발 당신의 종들에게 아람 말로 말씀해 주십시오. 우리가 그 말을 알아듣습니다. 성벽 위에 있는 백성이 듣는데 유다 말로는 말씀하지 마십시오."
12 But Rabshakeh said, “ Has my master sent me only to your master and to you, to speak these words, and not to the men who sit on the wall, who will eat their own dung and drink their own urine with you?”But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?그러나 랍사게가 말했습니다. "내 주께서 나를 보내신 것이 너희 주와 너희에게만 이 말을 하라고 하신 줄 아느냐? 성벽 위에 앉은 사람들에게도 하라고 보내신 것이 아니냐? 그들도 너희와 함께 자기 똥을 먹고 자기 오줌을 마시게 될 것이다."
13 Then Rabshakeh stood, and called out with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, “ Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.그러고 나서 랍사게가 일어서서 유다 말로 큰 소리를 질러 말했습니다. "위대한 왕, 곧 앗수르 왕의 말을 들어라!
14 The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you.Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you:왕께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. '히스기야에게 속지 마라. 그는 너희를 건져 내지 못한다.
15 Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “ Yahweh will surely deliver us. This city won’t be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”’neither let Hezekiah make you trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely deliver us; this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.히스기야가 「여호와께서 반드시 우리를 건져 내실 것이다. 이 성은 앗수르 왕의 손에 넘어가지 않는다」고 말하며 너희로 여호와를 의지하게 하더라도 그 말을 믿지 마라.'
16 Don’t listen to Hezekiah, for the king of Assyria says, ‘ Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and each of you eat from his vine, and each one from his fig tree, and each one of you drink the waters of his own cistern;Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;히스기야의 말을 듣지 마라. 앗수르 왕께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. '나와 화친하고 나에게로 나아오너라. 그러면 너희가 저마다 자기 포도나무와 자기 무화과나무의 열매를 먹고 저마다 자기 우물의 물을 마실 것이다.
17 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards.그러다가 내가 와서 너희를 너희 땅과 같은 땅, 곧 곡식과 새 포도주가 있는 땅, 빵과 포도밭이 있는 땅으로 데려갈 것이다.
18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, “ Yahweh will deliver us.” Have any of the gods of the nations delivered their lands from the hand of the king of Assyria?Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?「여호와께서 우리를 건져 내실 것이다」라며 히스기야가 너희를 꾀지 못하게 하라. 여러 민족의 신들 가운데 어느 하나라도 자기 땅을 앗수르 왕의 손에서 건져 낸 적이 있느냐?
19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria from my hand?Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?하맛과 아르밧의 신들이 어디에 있느냐? 스발와임의 신들이 어디에 있느냐? 그들이 사마리아를 내 손에서 건져 냈느냐?
20 Who are they among all the gods of these countries that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”Who are they among all the gods of these countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?이 모든 나라의 신들 가운데 어느 신이 자기 나라를 내 손에서 건져 냈기에, 여호와가 예루살렘을 내 손에서 건져 내겠느냐?'"
21 But they remained silent, and said nothing in reply, for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”But they held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.그러나 그들은 잠잠하여 한마디도 대답하지 않았습니다. 왕이 "그에게 대답하지 마라" 하고 명령했기 때문입니다.
22 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.그러고 나서 왕궁 살림을 맡은 힐기야의 아들 엘리야김과 서기관 셉나와 역사 기록관인 아삽의 아들 요아가 옷을 찢고 히스기야에게 나아가 랍사게의 말을 전했습니다.
