2 He looked, and saw a well in the field, and saw three flocks of sheep lying there by it. For out of that well they watered the flocks. The stone on the well’s mouth was large.And he looked, and, behold, a well in the field, and, lo, three flocks of sheep lying there by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and the stone upon the well’s mouth was great.그가 보니 들에 우물이 하나 있고, 그 곁에 양 떼 세 무리가 누워 있었다. 사람들이 그 우물에서 물을 길어 양 떼에게 먹였기 때문이다. 그런데 우물 입구를 막은 돌이 컸다.
3 There all the flocks were gathered. They rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone back on the well’s mouth in its place.And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well’s mouth in its place.거기에 모든 양 떼가 모이면 사람들이 우물 입구에서 그 돌을 굴려 내고 양에게 물을 먹인 뒤, 다시 그 돌을 우물 입구 제자리에 올려놓곤 하였다.
4 Jacob said to them, “ My relatives, where are you from?” They said, “We are from Haran.”And Jacob said unto them, My brethren, whence are ye? And they said, Of Haran are we.야곱이 그들에게 물었다. "내 형제들이여, 그대들은 어디서 왔습니까?" 그들이 대답하였다. "우리는 하란에서 왔습니다."
5 He said to them, “Do you know Laban, the son of Nahor?” They said, “We know him.”And he said unto them, Know ye Laban the son of Nahor? And they said, We know him.야곱이 그들에게 말하였다. "나홀의 손자 라반을 아십니까?" 그들이 대답하였다. "우리가 그를 압니다."
6 He said to them, “ Is it well with him?” They said, “ It is well. See, Rachel, his daughter, is coming with the sheep.”And he said unto them, Is it well with him? And they said, It is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep.야곱이 다시 물었다. "그가 평안합니까?" 그들이 대답하였다. "평안합니다. 보십시오, 그의 딸 라헬이 양 떼를 몰고 오고 있습니다."
7 He said, “ Behold, it is still the middle of the day, not time to gather the livestock together. Water the sheep, and go and feed them.”And he said, Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them.야곱이 말하였다. "보십시오, 아직 한낮이라 가축을 모을 때가 아닙니다. 양에게 물을 먹이고 가서 풀을 뜯게 하십시오."
8 They said, “ We can’t, until all the flocks are gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth. Then we will water the sheep.”And they said, We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and they roll the stone from the well’s mouth; then we water the sheep.그들이 대답하였다. "우리는 그렇게 할 수 없습니다. 모든 양 떼가 다 모이고 사람들이 우물 입구에서 돌을 굴려 내야 비로소 양에게 물을 먹일 수 있습니다."
9 While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep, for she kept them.While he was yet speaking with them, Rachel came with her father’s sheep; for she kept them.야곱이 그들과 말하고 있을 때에 라헬이 자기 아버지의 양 떼를 몰고 왔다. 그가 양을 치고 있었기 때문이다.
10 When Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban, his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban, his mother’s brother, Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel the daughter of Laban his mother’s brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother’s brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well’s mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother’s brother.야곱이 외삼촌 라반의 딸 라헬과 외삼촌 라반의 양 떼를 보고는, 가까이 가서 우물 입구에서 돌을 굴려 내고 외삼촌 라반의 양 떼에게 물을 먹였다.
11 Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.야곱이 라헬에게 입을 맞추고 소리를 높여 울었다.
12 Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s relative, and that he was Rebekah’s son. She ran and told her father.And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father’s brother, and that he was Rebekah’s son: and she ran and told her father.야곱이 라헬에게 자기가 그의 아버지의 친척이며 리브가의 아들이라고 말하니, 라헬이 달려가 자기 아버지에게 알렸다.
13 When Laban heard the news of Jacob, his sister’s son, he ran to meet Jacob, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. Jacob told Laban all these things.And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister’s son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.라반이 자기 누이의 아들 야곱의 소식을 듣고는 달려나가 그를 맞이하여 끌어안고 입을 맞추며 자기 집으로 데리고 왔다. 야곱이 이 모든 일을 라반에게 말하였다.
14 Laban said to him, “Surely you are my bone and my flesh.” Jacob stayed with him for a month.And Laban said to him, Surely thou art my bone and my flesh. And he abode with him the space of a month.라반이 그에게 말하였다. "너는 참으로 내 뼈요 내 살이다." 야곱이 한 달 동안 그와 함께 지냈다.
15 Laban said to Jacob, “ Because you are my relative, should you therefore serve me for nothing? Tell me, what will your wages be?”And Laban said unto Jacob, Because thou art my brother, shouldest thou therefore serve me for nought? tell me, what shall thy wages be?라반이 야곱에게 말하였다. "네가 내 친척이라고 해서 어찌 거저 나를 섬기겠느냐? 말해 보아라, 네가 받을 품삯이 무엇이냐?"
16 Laban had two daughters. The name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.And Laban had two daughters: the name of the elder was Leah, and the name of the younger was Rachel.라반에게는 두 딸이 있었다. 큰딸의 이름은 레아였고, 작은딸의 이름은 라헬이었다.
17 Leah’s eyes were weak, but Rachel was beautiful in form and attractive.And Leah’s eyes were tender; but Rachel was beautiful and well favored.레아는 눈이 약하였으나, 라헬은 몸매가 아름답고 용모가 고왔다.
18 Jacob loved Rachel. He said, “ I will serve you seven years for Rachel, your younger daughter.”And Jacob loved Rachel; and he said, I will serve thee seven years for Rachel thy younger daughter.야곱이 라헬을 사랑하여 말하였다. "외삼촌의 작은딸 라헬을 위해 제가 칠 년을 섬기겠습니다."
19 Laban said, “ It is better that I give her to you, than that I should give her to another man. Stay with me.”And Laban said, It is better that I give her to thee, than that I should give her to another man: abide with me.라반이 말하였다. "그 아이를 다른 남자에게 주는 것보다 너에게 주는 것이 낫겠다. 나와 함께 머물러라."
20 Jacob served seven years for Rachel. They seemed to him but a few days, for the love he had for her.And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her.야곱이 라헬을 위해 칠 년을 섬겼으나, 그를 사랑하였기에 그 세월이 며칠처럼 여겨졌다.
21 Jacob said to Laban, “ Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in to her.”And Jacob said unto Laban, Give me my wife, for my days are fulfilled, that I may go in unto her.야곱이 라반에게 말하였다. "기한이 다 찼으니 제 아내를 주십시오. 제가 그에게로 들어가겠습니다."
22 Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast.라반이 그곳 사람들을 모두 모아 잔치를 베풀었다.
23 In the evening, he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to Jacob. He went in to her.And it came to pass in the evening, that he took Leah his daughter, and brought her to him; and he went in unto her.그런데 저녁이 되자 라반이 자기 딸 레아를 데려다가 야곱에게 들여보내니, 야곱이 그에게로 들어갔다.
24 Laban gave Zilpah his servant to his daughter Leah for a servant.And Laban gave Zilpah his handmaid unto his daughter Leah for a handmaid.라반은 자기 여종 실바를 딸 레아에게 여종으로 주었다.
25 In the morning, behold, it was Leah! He said to Laban, “ What is this you have done to me? Didn’t I serve with you for Rachel? Why then have you deceived me?”And it came to pass in the morning that, behold, it was Leah: and he said to Laban, What is this thou hast done unto me? did not I serve with thee for Rachel? wherefore then hast thou beguiled me?아침이 되어 보니, 그가 레아였다. 야곱이 라반에게 말하였다. "외삼촌이 내게 이게 무슨 일입니까? 제가 라헬을 위해 외삼촌을 섬기지 않았습니까? 그런데 어찌하여 나를 속이셨습니까?"
26 Laban said, “ It is not done so in our place, to give the younger before the firstborn.And Laban said, It is not so done in our place, to give the younger before the first-born.라반이 말하였다. "맏딸보다 작은딸을 먼저 주는 것은 우리 고장의 풍습이 아니다.
27 Fulfill the week of this one, and we will give you the other also for the service which you will serve with me for seven more years.”Fulfil the week of this one, and we will give thee the other also for the service which thou shalt serve with me yet seven other years.이 아이의 혼인 주간을 채워라. 그러면 네가 앞으로 칠 년을 더 나를 섬기는 조건으로 저 아이도 너에게 주겠다."
28 Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week. He gave him Rachel his daughter as wife.And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife.야곱이 그렇게 하여 그 혼인 주간을 채우니, 라반이 자기 딸 라헬도 그에게 아내로 주었다.
29 Laban gave Bilhah, his servant, to his daughter Rachel to be her servant.And Laban gave to Rachel his daughter Bilhah his handmaid to be her handmaid.라반은 자기 여종 빌하를 딸 라헬에게 여종으로 주었다.
30 He went in also to Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him seven more years.And he went in also unto Rachel, and he loved also Rachel more than Leah, and served with him yet seven other years.야곱이 라헬에게도 들어갔으며, 레아보다 라헬을 더 사랑하였다. 그리고 칠 년을 더 라반을 섬겼다.
31 Yahweh saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb, but Rachel was barren.And Jehovah saw that Leah was hated, and he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.여호와께서 레아가 사랑받지 못함을 보시고 그의 태를 여셨으나, 라헬은 임신하지 못하였다.
32 Leah conceived, and bore a son, and she named him Reuben. For she said, “ Because Yahweh has looked at my affliction; for now my husband will love me.”And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Because Jehovah hath looked upon my affliction; for now my husband will love me.레아가 임신하여 아들을 낳고 그 이름을 르우벤이라 하였다. 이는 그가 "여호와께서 내 고통을 살펴보셨으니, 이제는 내 남편이 나를 사랑하리라" 하고 말하였기 때문이다.
33 She conceived again, and bore a son, and said, “ Because Yahweh has heard that I am hated, he has therefore given me this son also.” She named him Simeon.And she conceived again, and bare a son: and said, Because Jehovah hath heard that I am hated, he hath therefore given me this son also: and she called his name Simeon.레아가 다시 임신하여 아들을 낳고 말하였다. "여호와께서 내가 사랑받지 못함을 들으시고 이 아들도 내게 주셨다." 그러고는 그 이름을 시므온이라 하였다.
34 She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “ Now this time my husband will be joined to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have borne him three sons: therefore was his name called Levi.레아가 또 임신하여 아들을 낳고 말하였다. "내가 남편에게 아들 셋을 낳아 주었으니, 이제는 남편이 나와 연합하리라." 그러므로 그 이름을 레위라 하였다.
35 She conceived again, and bore a son. She said, “ This time I will praise Yahweh.” Therefore she named him Judah. Then she stopped bearing.And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, This time will I praise Jehovah: therefore she called his name Judah; and she left off bearing.레아가 또 임신하여 아들을 낳고 말하였다. "이번에는 여호와를 찬양하리라." 그러므로 그 이름을 유다라 하였다. 그 뒤로 레아는 출산을 멈추었다.
