1 Now Yahweh said to Abram, “Leave your country, and your relatives, and your father’s house, and go to the land that I will show you.Now Jehovah said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto the land that I will show thee:여호와께서 아브람에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 네 고향과 친척과 네 아버지의 집을 떠나 내가 네게 보여 줄 땅으로 가거라.
2 I will make of you a great nation. I will bless you and make your name great. You will be a blessing.and I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and be thou a blessing:내가 너를 큰 민족이 되게 하고, 네게 복을 주며, 네 이름을 크게 하겠다. 너는 복이 될 것이다.
3 I will bless those who bless you, and I will curse him who treats you with contempt. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”and I will bless them that bless thee, and him that curseth thee will I curse: and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed.너를 축복하는 사람들에게는 내가 복을 주고, 너를 저주하는 사람은 내가 저주하겠다. 땅의 모든 족속이 너로 말미암아 복을 받을 것이다."
4 So Abram went, as Yahweh had told him. Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he departed from Haran.So Abram went, as Jehovah had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.그리하여 아브람은 여호와께서 그에게 말씀하신 대로 떠났고, 롯도 그와 함께 갔다. 아브람이 하란을 떠날 때 그의 나이는 일흔다섯 살이었다.
5 Abram took Sarai his wife, Lot his brother’s son, all their possessions that they had gathered, and the people whom they had acquired in Haran, and they went to go into the land of Canaan. They entered into the land of Canaan.And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother’s son, and all their substance that they had gathered, and the souls that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.아브람은 자기 아내 사래와 조카 롯과 그들이 모은 모든 재산과 하란에서 얻은 사람들을 데리고 가나안 땅으로 가려고 길을 떠나 마침내 가나안 땅에 이르렀다.
6 Abram passed through the land to the place of Shechem, to the oak of Moreh. At that time, Canaanites were in the land.And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Shechem, unto the oak of Moreh. And the Canaanite was then in the land.아브람은 그 땅을 두루 지나 세겜 땅 모레의 상수리나무가 있는 곳에 이르렀다. 그때 그 땅에는 가나안 사람이 살고 있었다.
7 Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, “ I will give this land to your offspring.” He built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.And Jehovah appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto Jehovah, who appeared unto him.여호와께서 아브람에게 나타나 말씀하셨다. "내가 이 땅을 네 후손에게 주겠다." 아브람은 그곳에 자기에게 나타나신 여호와를 위하여 제단을 쌓았다.
8 He left from there to go to the mountain on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to Yahweh and called on Yahweh’s name.And he removed from thence unto the mountain on the east of Beth-el, and pitched his tent, having Beth-el on the west, and Ai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto Jehovah, and called upon the name of Jehovah.그는 거기서 벧엘 동쪽 산으로 옮겨가 장막을 쳤는데, 서쪽에는 벧엘이 있고 동쪽에는 아이가 있었다. 그는 그곳에도 여호와를 위하여 제단을 쌓고 여호와의 이름을 불렀다.
9 Abram traveled, still going on toward the South.And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the South.아브람은 계속 길을 떠나 남쪽 네게브를 향하여 나아갔다.
10 There was a famine in the land. Abram went down into Egypt to live as a foreigner there, for the famine was severe in the land.And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine was sore in the land.그 땅에 기근이 들었다. 그 땅의 기근이 심하였으므로 아브람은 이집트로 내려가 거기서 나그네로 살려고 하였다.
11 When he had come near to enter Egypt, he said to Sarai his wife, “ See now, I know that you are a beautiful woman to look at.And it came to pass, when he was come near to enter into Egypt, that he said unto Sarai his wife, Behold now, I know that thou art a fair woman to look upon:그가 이집트에 가까이 이르렀을 때 그는 자기 아내 사래에게 말하였다. "보시오, 나는 당신이 보기에 아름다운 여인인 줄 압니다.
12 It will happen that when the Egyptians see you, they will say, ‘ This is his wife.’ They will kill me, but they will save you alive.and it will come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see thee, that they will say, This is his wife: and they will kill me, but they will save thee alive.이집트 사람들이 당신을 보면 '이 여자는 저 사람의 아내다' 하고 말할 것이오. 그러면 그들이 나는 죽이고 당신은 살려 둘 것이오.
13 Please say that you are my sister, that it may be well with me for your sake, and that my soul may live because of you.”Say, I pray thee, thou art my sister; that it may be well with me for thy sake, and that my soul may live because of thee.그러니 당신은 내 누이라고 말해 주시오. 그래야 당신 덕분에 내가 잘 되고, 당신으로 인하여 내 목숨이 살아남을 것이오."
14 When Abram had come into Egypt, some Egyptians saw that the woman was very beautiful.And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman that she was very fair.아브람이 이집트에 이르렀을 때, 이집트 사람들은 그 여인이 매우 아름다운 것을 보았다.
15 The princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh; and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.And the princes of Pharaoh saw her, and praised her to Pharaoh: and the woman was taken into Pharaoh’s house.파라오의 신하들이 그녀를 보고 파라오 앞에서 그녀를 칭찬하니, 그 여인은 파라오의 궁으로 불려 들어갔다.
16 He dealt well with Abram for her sake. He had sheep, cattle, male donkeys, male servants, female servants, female donkeys, and camels.And he dealt well with Abram for her sake: and he had sheep, and oxen, and he-asses, and men-servants, and maid-servants, and she-asses, and camels.파라오는 그녀로 인하여 아브람을 잘 대접하였고, 아브람은 양과 소와 수나귀와 남종과 여종과 암나귀와 낙타를 얻게 되었다.
17 Yahweh afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.And Jehovah plagued Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Sarai, Abram’s wife.그러나 여호와께서는 아브람의 아내 사래의 일로 파라오와 그의 집안에 큰 재앙을 내리셨다.
18 Pharaoh called Abram and said, “ What is this that you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife?And Pharaoh called Abram, and said, What is this that thou hast done unto me? why didst thou not tell me that she was thy wife?파라오가 아브람을 불러 말하였다. "당신이 어찌하여 내게 이런 일을 하였소? 왜 그녀가 당신의 아내라고 내게 말하지 않았소?
19 Why did you say, ‘ She is my sister,’ so that I took her to be my wife? Now therefore, see your wife, take her, and go your way.”why saidst thou, She is my sister, so that I took her to be my wife? now therefore behold thy wife, take her, and go thy way.어찌하여 '그녀는 내 누이요' 하고 말하여, 내가 그녀를 아내로 삼으려 하였소? 자, 이제 당신의 아내가 여기 있으니, 데리고 떠나시오."
20 Pharaoh commanded men concerning him, and they escorted him away with his wife and all that he had.And Pharaoh gave men charge concerning him: and they brought him on the way, and his wife, and all that he had.파라오가 사람들에게 그에 관하여 명령하니, 그들은 그와 그의 아내와 그가 가진 모든 것을 길로 떠나보냈다.
