1 Abraham was old, and well advanced in age. Yahweh had blessed Abraham in all things.And Abraham was old, and well stricken in age: and Jehovah had blessed Abraham in all things.아브라함이 나이 많아 늙었고, 여호와께서는 모든 일에 아브라함에게 복을 주셨다.
2 Abraham said to his servant, the elder of his house, who ruled over all that he had, “ Please put your hand under my thigh.And Abraham said unto his servant, the elder of his house, that ruled over all that he had, Put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh:아브라함이 자기 집의 모든 소유를 맡아 다스리는 늙은 종에게 말했다. "네 손을 내 허벅지 아래에 넣어라.
3 I will make you swear by Yahweh, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that you shall not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I live.and I will make thee swear by Jehovah, the God of heaven and the God of the earth, that thou wilt not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, among whom I dwell:내가 너에게 하늘의 하나님이시며 땅의 하나님이신 여호와를 두고 맹세하게 하겠다. 내가 살고 있는 이 가나안 사람의 딸 가운데서 내 아들의 아내를 데려오지 말고,
4 But you shall go to my country, and to my relatives, and take a wife for my son Isaac.”but thou shalt go unto my country, and to my kindred, and take a wife for my son Isaac.내 고향, 내 친척에게로 가서 내 아들 이삭의 아내를 데려오너라."
5 The servant said to him, “ What if the woman isn’t willing to follow me to this land? Must I bring your son again to the land you came from?”And the servant said unto him, Peradventure the woman will not be willing to follow me unto this land: must I needs bring thy son again unto the land from whence thou camest?종이 그에게 말했다. "혹시 그 여자가 저를 따라 이 땅으로 오려 하지 않으면 어떻게 합니까? 그러면 어르신의 아들을 어르신이 떠나오신 그 땅으로 다시 데려가야 합니까?"
6 Abraham said to him, “ Beware that you don’t bring my son there again.And Abraham said unto him, Beware thou that thou bring not my son thither again.아브라함이 그에게 말했다. "내 아들을 그곳으로 다시 데려가지 않도록 조심하여라.
7 Yahweh, the God of heaven — who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my birth, who spoke to me, and who swore to me, saying, ‘ I will give this land to your offspring — he will send his angel before you, and you shall take a wife for my son from there.Jehovah, the God of heaven, who took me from my father’s house, and from the land of my nativity, and who spake unto me, and who sware unto me, saying, Unto thy seed will I give this land; he will send his angel before thee, and thou shalt take a wife for my son from thence.하늘의 하나님 여호와께서는 나를 내 아버지의 집과 내가 태어난 땅에서 이끌어 내셨고, 나에게 말씀하시며 '내가 이 땅을 네 자손에게 주겠다'고 맹세하셨다. 그분께서 너보다 앞서 그분의 천사를 보내실 것이니, 너는 거기서 내 아들의 아내를 데려오게 될 것이다.
8 If the woman isn’t willing to follow you, then you shall be clear from this oath to me. Only you shall not bring my son there again.”And if the woman be not willing to follow thee, then thou shalt be clear from this my oath; only thou shalt not bring my son thither again.만일 그 여자가 너를 따라오려 하지 않으면, 너는 이 맹세에서 벗어날 것이다. 다만 내 아들만은 그곳으로 다시 데려가지 마라."
9 The servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and swore to him concerning this matter.And the servant put his hand under the thigh of Abraham his master, and sware to him concerning this matter.그래서 종은 자기 주인 아브라함의 허벅지 아래에 손을 넣고, 이 일에 대하여 그에게 맹세했다.
10 The servant took ten of his master’s camels, and departed, having a variety of good things of his master’s with him. He arose, and went to Mesopotamia, to the city of Nahor.And the servant took ten camels, of the camels of his master, and departed, having all goodly things of his master’s in his hand: and he arose, and went to Mesopotamia, unto the city of Nahor.종은 자기 주인의 낙타 가운데 열 마리를 끌고, 주인의 온갖 좋은 물건을 가지고 떠났다. 그는 일어나 메소포타미아의 나홀의 성으로 갔다.
11 He made the camels kneel down outside the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.And he made the camels to kneel down without the city by the well of water at the time of evening, the time that women go out to draw water.그는 저녁때, 곧 여자들이 물을 길으러 나오는 시간에 성 밖 우물가에서 낙타들을 꿇어앉게 했다.
12 He said, “ Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, please give me success today, and show kindness to my master Abraham.And he said, O Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, send me, I pray thee, good speed this day, and show kindness unto my master Abraham.그가 말했다. "내 주인 아브라함의 하나님 여호와여, 오늘 제게 일이 잘 이루어지게 하시고, 내 주인 아브라함에게 인자를 베풀어 주십시오.
13 Behold, I am standing by the spring of water. The daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water.Behold, I am standing by the fountain of water; and the daughters of the men of the city are coming out to draw water:보십시오, 제가 우물가에 서 있고, 성안 사람들의 딸들이 물을 길으러 나오고 있습니다.
14 Let it happen, that the young lady to whom I will say, ‘ Please let down your pitcher, that I may drink,’ then she says, ‘ Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink,’— let her be the one you have appointed for your servant Isaac. By this I will know that you have shown kindness to my master.”and let it come to pass, that the damsel to whom I shall say, Let down thy pitcher, I pray thee, that I may drink; and she shall say, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: let the same be she that thou hast appointed for thy servant Isaac; and thereby shall I know that thou hast showed kindness unto my master.제가 한 소녀에게 '청하건대 물동이를 기울여 내가 마시게 해 다오' 하고 말할 때, 그녀가 '마시십시오, 제가 당신의 낙타들에게도 물을 주겠습니다' 하고 대답하면, 그 소녀가 바로 주께서 주의 종 이삭을 위해 정하신 여자가 되게 하십시오. 이로써 저는 주께서 제 주인에게 인자를 베푸신 줄 알겠습니다."
15 Before he had finished speaking, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher on her shoulder.And it came to pass, before he had done speaking, that, behold, Rebekah came out, who was born to Bethuel the son of Milcah, the wife of Nahor, Abraham’s brother, with her pitcher upon her shoulder.그가 말을 마치기도 전에, 보라, 리브가가 어깨에 물동이를 메고 나왔다. 그녀는 아브라함의 형제 나홀의 아내 밀가의 아들 브두엘에게서 태어난 딸이었다.
16 The young lady was very beautiful to look at, a virgin. No man had known her. She went down to the spring, filled her pitcher, and came up.And the damsel was very fair to look upon, a virgin, neither had any man known her: and she went down to the fountain, and filled her pitcher, and came up.그 소녀는 보기에 매우 아름다웠고, 처녀로서 아직 어떤 남자도 그녀를 알지 못했다. 그녀는 샘으로 내려가 물동이를 채우고 올라왔다.

18 She said, “ Drink, my lord.” She hurried, and let down her pitcher on her hand, and gave him a drink.And she said, Drink, my lord: and she hasted, and let down her pitcher upon her hand, and gave him drink.그녀가 말했다. "마시십시오, 내 주여." 그러고는 급히 물동이를 손으로 내려 그에게 마시게 했다.
19 When she had finished giving him a drink, she said, “ I will also draw for your camels, until they have finished drinking.”And when she had done giving him drink, she said, I will draw for thy camels also, until they have done drinking.그에게 마시게 한 뒤에 그녀가 말했다. "당신의 낙타들도 다 마실 때까지 제가 물을 길어 주겠습니다."
20 She hurried, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again to the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.And she hasted, and emptied her pitcher into the trough, and ran again unto the well to draw, and drew for all his camels.그녀는 급히 물동이를 구유에 비우고, 다시 우물로 달려가 길어, 그의 모든 낙타에게 물을 주었다.
21 The man looked steadfastly at her, remaining silent, to know whether Yahweh had made his journey prosperous or not.And the man looked stedfastly on her, holding his peace, to know whether Jehovah had made his journey prosperous or not.그 사람은 여호와께서 자기 길을 형통하게 하셨는지 아닌지를 알려고, 잠잠히 그녀를 뚫어지게 바라보았다.
22 As the camels had finished drinking, the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,And it came to pass, as the camels had done drinking, that the man took a golden ring of half a shekel weight, and two bracelets for her hands of ten shekels weight of gold,낙타들이 다 마시고 나자, 그 사람은 반 세겔 무게의 금 코걸이 하나와 열 세겔 무게의 금 팔찌 두 개를 그녀의 손에 채워 주며,
23 and said, “ Whose daughter are you? Please tell me. Is there room in your father’s house for us to stay?”and said, Whose daughter art thou? tell me, I pray thee. Is there room in thy father’s house for us to lodge in?말했다. "너는 누구의 딸이냐? 청하건대 내게 말해 다오. 네 아버지의 집에 우리가 묵을 방이 있겠느냐?"
24 She said to him, “ I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bore to Nahor.”And she said unto him, I am the daughter of Bethuel the son of Milcah, whom she bare unto Nahor.그녀가 그에게 말했다. "저는 밀가가 나홀에게 낳아 준 아들 브두엘의 딸입니다."
25 She said moreover to him, “We have both straw and feed enough, and room to lodge in.”She said moreover unto him, We have both straw and provender enough, and room to lodge in.그녀가 또 그에게 말했다. "우리 집에는 짚과 여물이 넉넉하고, 묵을 방도 있습니다."
26 The man bowed his head, and worshiped Yahweh.And the man bowed his head, and worshipped Jehovah.그 사람은 머리를 숙여 여호와께 경배하며,
27 He said, “ Blessed be Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who has not forsaken his loving kindness and his truth toward my master. As for me, Yahweh has led me on the way to the house of my master’s relatives.”And he said, Blessed be Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who hath not forsaken his lovingkindness and his truth toward my master: as for me, Jehovah hath led me in the way to the house of my master’s brethren.말했다. 30 When he saw the ring, and the bracelets on his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, “ This is what the man said to me,” he came to the man. Behold, he was standing by the camels at the spring.And it came to pass, when he saw the ring, and the bracelets upon his sister’s hands, and when he heard the words of Rebekah his sister, saying, Thus spake the man unto me; that he came unto the man; and, behold, he was standing by the camels at the fountain.그가 코걸이와 누이의 손에 채운 팔찌를 보고, 또 누이 리브가가 "그 사람이 내게 이렇게 말했다"고 하는 말을 들었을 때, 그 사람에게로 갔다. 보라, 그가 우물가의 낙타 곁에 서 있었다.
31 He said, “Come in, you blessed of Yahweh. Why do you stand outside? For I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.”And he said, Come in, thou blessed of Jehovah; wherefore standest thou without? for I have prepared the house, and room for the camels.그가 말했다. "여호와께 복 받은 이여, 들어오십시오. 어찌하여 밖에 서 계십니까? 제가 집과 낙타들을 위한 자리를 마련해 두었습니다."
32 The man came into the house, and he unloaded the camels. He gave straw and feed for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men who were with him.And the man came into the house, and he ungirded the camels; and he gave straw and provender for the camels, and water to wash his feet and the feet of the men that were with him.그 사람이 집으로 들어가니, 라반이 낙타의 짐을 풀고, 낙타에게 짚과 여물을 주고, 그와 함께 온 사람들의 발 씻을 물을 주었다.
33 Food was set before him to eat, but he said, “ I will not eat until I have told my message.” Laban said, “ Speak on.”And there was set food before him to eat: but he said, I will not eat, until I have told mine errand. And he said, Speak on.그 앞에 먹을 음식이 차려졌으나, 그가 말했다. "제가 할 말을 다 하기 전에는 먹지 않겠습니다." 라반이 말했다. "말씀하십시오."
34 He said, “ I am Abraham’s servant.And he said, I am Abraham’s servant.그가 말했다. "저는 아브라함의 종입니다.
35 Yahweh has blessed my master greatly. He has become great. Yahweh has given him flocks and herds, silver and gold, male servants and female servants, and camels and donkeys.And Jehovah hath blessed my master greatly; and he is become great: and he hath given him flocks and herds, and silver and gold, and men-servants and maid-servants, and camels and asses.여호와께서 내 주인에게 크게 복을 주셔서 그가 창대하게 되었습니다. 그분께서 주인에게 양 떼와 소 떼, 은과 금, 남종과 여종, 낙타와 나귀를 주셨습니다.
36 Sarah, my master’s wife, bore a son to my master when she was old. He has given all that he has to him.And Sarah my master’s wife bare a son to my master when she was old: and unto him hath he given all that he hath.내 주인의 아내 사라가 늙어서 주인에게 아들을 낳았는데, 주인이 자기의 모든 소유를 그에게 주었습니다.
37 My master made me swear, saying, ‘ You shall not take a wife for my son from the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I live,And my master made me swear, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife for my son of the daughters of the Canaanites, in whose land I dwell:내 주인이 저에게 맹세하게 하며 말했습니다. '내가 살고 있는 이 가나안 사람의 딸 가운데서 내 아들의 아내를 데려오지 말고,

39 I asked my master, ‘What if the woman will not follow me?’And I said unto my master, Peradventure the woman will not follow me.그래서 제가 주인에게 말했습니다. '혹시 그 여자가 저를 따라오려 하지 않으면 어떻게 합니까?'
40 He said to me, ‘ Yahweh, before whom I walk, will send his angel with you, and prosper your way. You shall take a wife for my son from my relatives, and of my father’s house.And he said unto me, Jehovah, before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father’s house:주인이 저에게 말했습니다. 41 Then you will be clear from my oath, when you come to my relatives. If they don’t give her to you, you shall be clear from my oath.’then shalt thou be clear from my oath, when thou comest to my kindred; and if they give her not to thee, thou shalt be clear from my oath.네가 내 친척에게 갔을 때, 그들이 그녀를 너에게 주지 않으면, 너는 내 맹세에서 벗어날 것이다.'
42 I came today to the spring, and said, ‘ Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, if now you do prosper my way which I go —And I came this day unto the fountain, and said, O Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, if now thou do prosper my way which I go:그래서 저는 오늘 우물가에 이르러 말했습니다. 43 behold, I am standing by this spring of water. Let it happen, that the maiden who comes out to draw, to whom I will say, “ Please give me a little water from your pitcher to drink,”behold, I am standing by the fountain of water; and let it come to pass, that the maiden that cometh forth to draw, to whom I shall say, Give me, I pray thee, a little water from thy pitcher to drink;보십시오, 제가 이 우물가에 서 있습니다. 물을 길으러 나오는 소녀에게 제가 "청하건대 네 물동이의 물을 조금 마시게 해 다오" 하고 말할 때,
44 then she tells me, “ Drink, and I will also draw for your camels,”—let her be the woman whom Yahweh has appointed for my master’s son.’and she shall say to me, Both drink thou, and I will also draw for thy camels: let the same be the woman whom Jehovah hath appointed for my master’s son.그녀가 저에게 "마시십시오, 제가 당신의 낙타들에게도 물을 길어 주겠습니다" 하고 대답하면, 그 여자가 바로 여호와께서 내 주인의 아들을 위해 정하신 여자가 되게 하십시오.'
45 Before I had finished speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came out with her pitcher on her shoulder. She went down to the spring, and drew. I said to her, ‘ Please let me drink.’And before I had done speaking in my heart, behold, Rebekah came forth with her pitcher on her shoulder; and she went down unto the fountain, and drew: and I said unto her, Let me drink, I pray thee.제가 마음속으로 말을 마치기도 전에, 보십시오, 리브가가 어깨에 물동이를 메고 나왔습니다. 그녀가 샘으로 내려가 물을 길었기에, 제가 그녀에게 '청하건대 내게 마시게 해 다오' 하고 말했습니다.
46 She hurried and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, ‘ Drink, and I will also give your camels a drink.’ So I drank, and she also gave the camels a drink.And she made haste, and let down her pitcher from her shoulder, and said, Drink, and I will give thy camels drink also: so I drank, and she made the camels drink also.그녀가 급히 어깨에서 물동이를 내리며 말했습니다. '마시십시오, 제가 당신의 낙타들에게도 물을 주겠습니다.' 그래서 제가 마셨고, 그녀는 낙타들에게도 물을 주었습니다.
47 I asked her, and said, ‘ Whose daughter are you?’ She said, ‘ The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bore to him.’ I put the ring on her nose, and the bracelets on her hands.And I asked her, and said, Whose daughter art thou? And she said, The daughter of Bethuel, Nahor’s son, whom Milcah bare unto him: and I put the ring upon her nose, and the bracelets upon her hands.제가 그녀에게 물었습니다. '너는 누구의 딸이냐?' 그녀가 말했습니다. 48 I bowed my head, and worshiped Yahweh, and blessed Yahweh, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter for his son.And I bowed my head, and worshipped Jehovah, and blessed Jehovah, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me in the right way to take my master’s brother’s daughter for his son.그리고 저는 머리를 숙여 여호와께 경배하며, 내 주인 아브라함의 하나님 여호와를 찬송했습니다. 그분께서 저를 바른길로 인도하셔서, 내 주인의 형제의 손녀를 그 아들의 아내로 데려가게 하셨습니다.
49 Now if you will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me. If not, tell me, that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.”And now if ye will deal kindly and truly with my master, tell me: and if not, tell me; that I may turn to the right hand, or to the left.이제 여러분이 내 주인에게 인자와 진실을 베푸시려거든 제게 말씀해 주십시오. 그렇지 않으시거든 그것도 제게 말씀해 주셔서, 제가 오른쪽으로든 왼쪽으로든 돌이키게 해 주십시오."
50 Then Laban and Bethuel answered, “ The thing proceeds from Yahweh. We can’t speak to you bad or good.Then Laban and Bethuel answered and said, The thing proceedeth from Jehovah: we cannot speak unto thee bad or good.그러자 라반과 브두엘이 대답했다. "이 일은 여호와께로부터 나온 것이니, 우리가 당신에게 좋다 나쁘다 말할 수 없습니다.
51 Behold, Rebekah is before you. Take her, and go, and let her be your master’s son’s wife, as Yahweh has spoken.”Behold, Rebekah is before thee, take her, and go, and let her be thy master’s son’s wife, as Jehovah hath spoken.보십시오, 리브가가 당신 앞에 있으니, 데리고 가십시오. 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로, 그녀가 당신 주인의 아들의 아내가 되게 하십시오."
52 When Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth to Yahweh.And it came to pass, that, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, he bowed himself down to the earth unto Jehovah.아브라함의 종은 그들의 말을 듣고, 땅에 엎드려 여호와께 경배했다.
53 The servant brought out jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and clothing, and gave them to Rebekah. He also gave precious things to her brother and her mother.And the servant brought forth jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment, and gave them to Rebekah: he gave also to her brother and to her mother precious things.그 종은 은 패물과 금 패물과 옷을 꺼내어 리브가에게 주고, 그녀의 오라버니와 어머니에게도 귀한 물건을 주었다.
54 They ate and drank, he and the men who were with him, and stayed all night. They rose up in the morning, and he said, “ Send me away to my master.”And they did eat and drink, he and the men that were with him, and tarried all night; and they rose up in the morning, and he said, Send me away unto my master.그와 그와 함께 온 사람들이 먹고 마시며 밤을 지냈다. 그들이 아침에 일어나자, 그가 말했다. 55 Her brother and her mother said, “ Let the young lady stay with us a few days, at least ten. After that she will go.”And her brother and her mother said, Let the damsel abide with us a few days, at the least ten; after that she shall go.그녀의 오라버니와 어머니가 말했다. "소녀를 며칠, 적어도 열흘쯤 우리와 함께 머물게 하십시오. 그 뒤에 보내겠습니다."
56 He said to them, “Don’t hinder me, since Yahweh has prospered my way. Send me away that I may go to my master.”And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing Jehovah hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.그가 그들에게 말했다. "저를 막지 마십시오. 여호와께서 제 길을 형통하게 하셨으니, 저를 보내 주인에게로 돌아가게 해 주십시오."
57 They said, “We will call the young lady, and ask her.”And they said, We will call the damsel, and inquire at her mouth.그들이 말했다. "소녀를 불러 그녀에게 물어보겠습니다."
58 They called Rebekah, and said to her, “ Will you go with this man?” She said, “ I will go.”And they called Rebekah, and said unto her, Wilt thou go with this man? And she said, I will go.그들이 리브가를 불러 그녀에게 말했다. "네가 이 사람과 함께 가겠느냐?" 그녀가 말했다. "가겠습니다."
59 They sent away Rebekah, their sister, with her nurse, Abraham’s servant, and his men.And they sent away Rebekah their sister, and her nurse, and Abraham’s servant, and his men.그래서 그들은 그들의 누이 리브가와 그녀의 유모를, 아브라함의 종과 그의 사람들과 함께 떠나보냈다.
60 They blessed Rebekah, and said to her, “ Our sister, may you be the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let your offspring possess the gate of those who hate them.”And they blessed Rebekah, and said unto her, Our sister, be thou the mother of thousands of ten thousands, and let thy seed possess the gate of those that hate them.그들이 리브가에게 복을 빌며 말했다. "우리 누이여, 너는 천만인의 어머니가 되며, 네 자손이 그들을 미워하는 자들의 성문을 차지하기를 바란다."
61 Rebekah arose with her ladies. They rode on the camels, and followed the man.
