1 Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.야곱이 눈을 들어 보니, 에서가 사백 명을 거느리고 오고 있었다. 그래서 야곱은 자녀들을 레아와 라헬과 두 여종에게 나누어 맡겼다.
2 He put the servants and their children in front, Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph at the rear.And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.두 여종과 그 자녀들을 맨 앞에 세우고, 레아와 그 자녀들을 그 뒤에, 라헬과 요셉을 맨 뒤에 두었다.
3 He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.And he himself passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.그리고 자기는 그들 앞에 나아가, 형에게 가까이 이를 때까지 땅에 일곱 번 몸을 굽혀 절하였다.

5 He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “ Who are these with you?” He said, “ The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are these with thee? And he said, The children whom God hath graciously given thy servant.에서가 눈을 들어 여인들과 아이들을 보고 물었다. "너와 함께 있는 이들은 누구냐?" 야곱이 대답하였다. "하나님께서 주의 종에게 은혜로 주신 자녀들입니다."
6 Then the servants came near with their children, and they bowed themselves.Then the handmaids came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.그때에 두 여종이 그 자녀들과 함께 가까이 나아와 몸을 굽혀 절하였다.
7 Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.And Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.레아도 그 자녀들과 함께 가까이 나아와 절하였고, 그 뒤에 요셉과 라헬이 가까이 나아와 절하였다.
8 Esau said, “ What do you mean by all this company which I met?” Jacob said, “ To find favor in the sight of my lord.”And he said, What meanest thou by all this company which I met? And he said, To find favor in the sight of my lord.에서가 물었다. "내가 만난 그 모든 무리는 무슨 뜻이냐?" 야곱이 대답하였다. "내 주께 은혜를 입으려는 것입니다."
9 Esau said, “ I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; let that which thou hast be thine.에서가 말하였다. "내 동생아, 내게는 넉넉히 있으니, 네 것은 네가 가져라."
10 Jacob said, “ Please, no, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me.And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found favor in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand; forasmuch as I have seen thy face, as one seeth the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.야곱이 말하였다. "그렇게 하지 마십시오. 제가 이제 주께 은혜를 입었거든, 부디 제 손에서 이 예물을 받아 주십시오. 제가 형님의 얼굴을 뵙는 것이 마치 하나님의 얼굴을 뵙는 것 같으며, 형님께서 저를 기쁘게 받아 주셨기 때문입니다.
11 Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.Take, I pray thee, my gift that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.하나님께서 제게 은혜를 베푸셔서 제게 넉넉히 있으니, 부디 제가 형님께 가져온 이 선물을 받아 주십시오." 이렇게 간곡히 권하니, 에서가 그것을 받았다.
12 Esau said, “ Let’s take our journey, and let’s go, and I will go before you.”And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.에서가 말하였다. "이제 길을 떠나 가자. 내가 네 앞에서 인도하겠다."
13 Jacob said to him, “ My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young: and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.야곱이 그에게 말하였다. "내 주께서도 아시듯이 아이들은 연약하고, 저와 함께 있는 양 떼와 소 떼에는 새끼가 딸려 있습니다. 만일 하루라도 그것들을 심하게 몰면 모든 가축이 죽을 것입니다.
14 Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.”Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the cattle that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.부디 내 주께서 종보다 앞서 가십시오. 저는 앞서가는 가축의 걸음과 아이들의 걸음에 맞추어 천천히 인도하여, 세일에 계신 내 주께로 가겠습니다."
15 Esau said, “ Let me now leave with you some of the people who are with me.” He said, “ Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find favor in the sight of my lord.에서가 말하였다. "그러면 나와 함께 있는 사람들 가운데 몇을 너에게 남겨 두겠다." 야곱이 말하였다. "어찌하여 그렇게 하십니까? 그저 내 주께 은혜를 입게만 해 주십시오."
16 So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.그리하여 에서는 그날로 세일을 향하여 자기 길로 돌아갔다.
17 Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him a house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.야곱은 숙곳으로 가서 자기를 위해 집을 짓고 가축을 위해 우릿간을 만들었다. 그래서 그곳 이름을 숙곳이라 하였다.
18 Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city.And Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan-aram; and encamped before the city.야곱이 밧단아람에서 올 때에 가나안 땅에 있는 세겜 성에 평안히 이르러, 그 성 앞에 장막을 쳤다.
19 He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.And he bought the parcel of ground, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for a hundred pieces of money.그는 장막을 친 그 밭을 세겜의 아버지 하몰의 자손들에게서 은 백 닢을 주고 샀다.
20 He erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel.And he erected there an altar, and called it El-Elohe-Israel.그리고 그곳에 제단을 쌓고, 그 이름을 엘엘로헤이스라엘이라 하였다.
