2 As they traveled east, they found a plain in the land of Shinar, and they lived there.And it came to pass, as they journeyed east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.사람들이 동쪽으로 이동하다가 시날 땅에서 한 평야를 발견하고 그곳에 자리를 잡고 살았다.
3 They said to one another, “ Come, let’s make bricks, and burn them thoroughly.” They had brick for stone, and they used tar for mortar.And they said one to another, Come, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for mortar.그들이 서로 말하였다. "자, 벽돌을 만들어 단단히 굽자." 그들은 돌 대신 벽돌을 쓰고, 모르타르 대신 역청을 사용하였다.
4 They said, “ Come, let’s build ourselves a city, and a tower whose top reaches to the sky, and let’s make a name for ourselves, lest we be scattered abroad on the surface of the whole earth.”And they said, Come, let us build us a city, and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven, and let us make us a name; lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.또 그들이 말하였다. "자, 우리를 위하여 성읍과 꼭대기가 하늘에 닿는 탑을 세우고, 우리의 이름을 떨치자. 그래야 우리가 온 땅 위에 흩어지지 않을 것이다."
5 Yahweh came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men built.And Jehovah came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.여호와께서 사람들이 세우는 그 성읍과 탑을 보시려고 내려오셨다.
6 Yahweh said, “ Behold, they are one people, and they all have one language, and this is what they begin to do. Now nothing will be withheld from them, which they intend to do.And Jehovah said, Behold, they are one people, and they have all one language; and this is what they begin to do: and now nothing will be withholden from them, which they purpose to do.여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "보아라, 그들은 한 백성이며 모두 하나의 언어를 쓰고 있다. 이제 이런 일을 시작하였으니, 앞으로 그들이 하려고 마음먹은 일은 무엇이든 못 막을 것이다.
7 Come, let’s go down, and there confuse their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.”Come, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech.자, 우리가 내려가 거기서 그들의 언어를 뒤섞어, 서로의 말을 알아듣지 못하게 하자."
8 So Yahweh scattered them abroad from there on the surface of all the earth. They stopped building the city.So Jehovah scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off building the city.그리하여 여호와께서 그들을 거기서 온 땅 위에 흩으셨고, 그들은 그 성읍 세우는 일을 그쳤다.
9 Therefore its name was called Babel, because there Yahweh confused the language of all the earth. From there, Yahweh scattered them abroad on the surface of all the earth.Therefore was the name of it called Babel; because Jehovah did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did Jehovah scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.그러므로 그곳의 이름을 바벨이라 불렀다. 거기서 여호와께서 온 땅의 언어를 뒤섞으셨고, 또 거기서 여호와께서 그들을 온 땅 위에 흩으셨기 때문이다.
10 This is the history of the generations of Shem: Shem was one hundred years old when he became the father of Arpachshad two years after the flood.These are the generations of Shem. Shem was a hundred years old, and begat Arpachshad two years after the flood:셈의 계보는 이러하다. 셈은 백 살에, 홍수가 그친 지 이 년 후에 아르박삿을 낳았다.
11 Shem lived five hundred years after he became the father of Arpachshad, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Shem lived after he begat Arpachshad five hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.셈은 아르박삿을 낳은 뒤 오백 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
12 Arpachshad lived thirty-five years and became the father of Shelah.And Arpachshad lived five and thirty years, and begat Shelah:아르박삿은 삼십오 세에 셀라를 낳았다.
13 Arpachshad lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Shelah, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Arpachshad lived after he begat Shelah four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.아르박삿은 셀라를 낳은 뒤 사백삼 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
14 Shelah lived thirty years, and became the father of Eber.And Shelah lived thirty years, and begat Eber:셀라는 삼십 세에 에벨을 낳았다.
15 Shelah lived four hundred three years after he became the father of Eber, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Shelah lived after he begat Eber four hundred and three years, and begat sons and daughters.셀라는 에벨을 낳은 뒤 사백삼 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
16 Eber lived thirty-four years, and became the father of Peleg.And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg:에벨은 삼십사 세에 벨렉을 낳았다.
17 Eber lived four hundred thirty years after he became the father of Peleg, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Eber lived after he begat Peleg four hundred and thirty years, and begat sons and daughters.에벨은 벨렉을 낳은 뒤 사백삼십 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
18 Peleg lived thirty years, and became the father of Reu.And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu:벨렉은 삼십 세에 르우를 낳았다.
19 Peleg lived two hundred nine years after he became the father of Reu, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Peleg lived after he begat Reu two hundred and nine years, and begat sons and daughters.벨렉은 르우를 낳은 뒤 이백구 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
20 Reu lived thirty-two years, and became the father of Serug.And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug:르우는 삼십이 세에 스룩을 낳았다.
21 Reu lived two hundred seven years after he became the father of Serug, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Reu lived after he begat Serug two hundred and seven years, and begat sons and daughters.르우는 스룩을 낳은 뒤 이백칠 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
22 Serug lived thirty years, and became the father of Nahor.And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor:스룩은 삼십 세에 나홀을 낳았다.
23 Serug lived two hundred years after he became the father of Nahor, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Serug lived after he begat Nahor two hundred years, and begat sons and daughters.스룩은 나홀을 낳은 뒤 이백 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
24 Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah.And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah:나홀은 이십구 세에 데라를 낳았다.
25 Nahor lived one hundred nineteen years after he became the father of Terah, and became the father of more sons and daughters.and Nahor lived after he begat Terah a hundred and nineteen years, and begat sons and daughters.나홀은 데라를 낳은 뒤 백십구 년을 더 살면서 아들들과 딸들을 낳았다.
26 Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran.And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran.데라는 칠십 세에 아브람과 나홀과 하란을 낳았다.
27 Now this is the history of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Haran became the father of Lot.Now these are the generations of Terah. Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot.데라의 계보는 이러하다. 데라는 아브람과 나홀과 하란을 낳았고, 하란은 롯을 낳았다.
28 Haran died in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldees, while his father Terah was still alive.And Haran died before his father Terah in the land of his nativity, in Ur of the Chaldees.하란은 그가 태어난 땅 갈대아 우르에서 그의 아버지 데라보다 먼저 죽었다.
29 Abram and Nahor married wives. The name of Abram’s wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor’s wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, who was also the father of Iscah.And Abram and Nahor took them wives: the name of Abram’s wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor’s wife, Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah, and the father of Iscah.아브람과 나홀이 아내를 맞이하였다. 아브람의 아내 이름은 사래였고, 나홀의 아내 이름은 밀가였는데, 밀가는 하란의 딸로서, 하란은 또 이스가의 아버지였다.
30 Sarai was barren. She had no child.And Sarai was barren; she had no child.사래는 임신하지 못하는 몸이어서 자식이 없었다.
31 Terah took Abram his son, Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife. They went from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan. They came to Haran and lived there.And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.데라는 자기 아들 아브람과, 하란의 아들 곧 자기 손자인 롯과, 자기 며느리 곧 아들 아브람의 아내 사래를 데리고 가나안 땅으로 가려고 갈대아 우르를 떠났다. 그러나 그들은 하란에 이르러 그곳에 자리를 잡고 살았다.
32 The days of Terah were two hundred five years. Terah died in Haran.And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.데라는 이백오 년을 살다가 하란에서 죽었다.
