1 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, bore him no children. She had a servant, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, bare him no children: and she had a handmaid, an Egyptian, whose name was Hagar.아브람의 아내 사래는 그에게 자녀를 낳아 주지 못했다. 그런데 그녀에게 이집트 출신의 여종이 하나 있었는데, 이름은 하갈이었다.
2 Sarai said to Abram, “ See now, Yahweh has restrained me from bearing. Please go in to my servant. It may be that I will obtain children by her.” Abram listened to the voice of Sarai.And Sarai said unto Abram, Behold now, Jehovah hath restrained me from bearing; go in, I pray thee, unto my handmaid; it may be that I shall obtain children by her. And Abram hearkened to the voice of Sarai.사래가 아브람에게 말했다. "보세요, 여호와께서 내가 아이를 낳지 못하게 막으셨습니다. 그러니 내 여종에게 들어가십시오. 어쩌면 그녀를 통해 내가 자녀를 얻을지도 모릅니다." 아브람은 사래의 말을 들었다.
3 Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her servant, after Abram had lived ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.And Sarai, Abram’s wife, took Hagar the Egyptian, her handmaid, after Abram had dwelt ten years in the land of Canaan, and gave her to Abram her husband to be his wife.아브람의 아내 사래는, 아브람이 가나안 땅에서 십 년을 산 뒤에, 자기의 이집트 여종 하갈을 데려다가 남편 아브람에게 아내로 주었다.
4 He went in to Hagar, and she conceived. When she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.And he went in unto Hagar, and she conceived: and when she saw that she had conceived, her mistress was despised in her eyes.아브람이 하갈에게 들어가니 그녀가 임신했다. 자기가 임신한 것을 알게 되자 하갈은 자기 여주인을 우습게 여겼다.
5 Sarai said to Abram, “ This wrong is your fault. I gave my servant into your bosom, and when she saw that she had conceived, she despised me. May Yahweh judge between me and you.”And Sarai said unto Abram, My wrong be upon thee: I gave my handmaid into thy bosom; and when she saw that she had conceived, I was despised in her eyes: Jehovah judge between me and thee.사래가 아브람에게 말했다. "내가 당하는 이 억울함은 당신 탓입니다. 내가 내 여종을 당신 품에 안겨 주었는데, 그녀는 자기가 임신한 것을 알자 나를 우습게 여깁니다. 여호와께서 나와 당신 사이를 판단하시기를 바랍니다."
6 But Abram said to Sarai, “ Behold, your maid is in your hand. Do to her whatever is good in your eyes.” Sarai dealt harshly with her, and she fled from her face.But Abram said unto Sarai, Behold, thy maid is in thy hand; do to her that which is good in thine eyes. And Sarai dealt hardly with her, and she fled from her face.그러자 아브람이 사래에게 말했다. "보시오, 당신의 여종은 당신 손에 달려 있으니 당신 보기에 좋을 대로 그녀에게 하시오." 사래가 하갈을 모질게 다루니, 하갈은 사래의 앞에서 도망쳤다.
7 Yahweh’s angel found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur.And the angel of Jehovah found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain in the way to Shur.여호와의 천사가 광야의 샘 곁, 곧 술로 가는 길가의 샘 곁에서 하갈을 발견했다.
8 He said, “ Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?” She said, “ I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.”And he said, Hagar, Sarai’s handmaid, whence camest thou? and whither goest thou? And she said, I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.천사가 말했다. "사래의 여종 하갈아, 너는 어디서 왔으며 어디로 가는 길이냐?" 그녀가 대답했다. "저는 제 여주인 사래의 앞에서 도망치는 길입니다."
9 Yahweh’s angel said to her, “ Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.”And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, Return to thy mistress, and submit thyself under her hands.여호와의 천사가 그녀에게 말했다. "네 여주인에게 돌아가서 그녀의 손 아래에 복종하여라."
10 Yahweh’s angel said to her, “ I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.”And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, I will greatly multiply thy seed, that it shall not be numbered for multitude.여호와의 천사가 그녀에게 말했다. "내가 네 자손을 크게 번성하게 하여, 수가 너무 많아 셀 수 없게 하겠다."
11 Yahweh’s angel said to her, “ Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Yahweh has heard your affliction.And the angel of Jehovah said unto her, Behold, thou art with child, and shalt bear a son; and thou shalt call his name Ishmael, because Jehovah hath heard thy affliction.여호와의 천사가 그녀에게 말했다. "보아라, 네가 임신하였으니 아들을 낳을 것이다. 그 이름을 이스마엘이라 하여라. 여호와께서 네 고통을 들으셨기 때문이다.
12 He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will live opposed to all of his brothers.”And he shall be as a wild ass among men; his hand shall be against every man, and every man’s hand against him; and he shall dwell over against all his brethren.그는 사람들 가운데 들나귀 같은 사람이 될 것이다. 그의 손은 모든 사람을 치고, 모든 사람의 손은 그를 칠 것이다. 그는 자기의 모든 형제와 마주하여 살 것이다."
13 She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, “ You are a God who sees,” for she said, “ Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?”And she called the name of Jehovah that spake unto her, Thou art a God that seeth: for she said, Have I even here looked after him that seeth me?하갈은 자기에게 말씀하신 여호와의 이름을 "당신은 나를 보시는 하나님이십니다"라고 불렀다. 그녀가 말하기를 "내가 나를 보시는 분을 뵙고도 살아 있는가?" 했기 때문이다.
14 Therefore the well was called Beer Lahai Roi. Behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.Wherefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.그러므로 그 샘을 브엘라해로이라고 불렀다. 보아라, 그것은 가데스와 베렛 사이에 있다.
15 Hagar bore a son for Abram. Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.And Hagar bare Abram a son: and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bare, Ishmael.하갈이 아브람에게 아들을 낳아 주니, 아브람은 하갈이 낳은 자기 아들의 이름을 이스마엘이라고 했다.
16 Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to Abram.And Abram was fourscore and six years old, when Hagar bare Ishmael to Abram.하갈이 아브람에게 이스마엘을 낳아 주었을 때 아브람은 여든여섯 살이었다.
