36. an hanging for the door of the tent —Curtains of rich and elaborate embroidery, made by the women, are suspended over the doors or entrances of the tents occupied by Eastern chiefs and princes. In a similar style of elegance was the hanging finished which was to cover the door of this tabernacle—the chosen habitation of the God and King of Israel. "성막 문을 위하여 장막 문을 만들되" — 동방의 족장과 왕들의 천막 입구에는 화려하게 수놓은 커튼들이 드리워져 있다. 페르시아 전역의 여름 천막, 사원, 궁전 입구에도 이와 유사한 방식의 정교한 커튼이 걸려 있다. 이와 같이 우아한 방식으로 이스라엘의 하나님과 왕이 선택하신 처소인 성막의 문을 덮을 휘장이 만들어졌다. 출 26:12; 출 26:22~23에서 알 수 있듯이, 궤와 속죄소는 성막의 서쪽 끝에 놓였으며, 따라서 문은 동쪽을 향하였다. 그렇게 하여 이스라엘 사람들이 여호와께 예배드릴 때 서쪽을 향하게 됨으로써, 열방의 위대한 우상이었던 태양을 경배하는 것을 상징적으로 외면하고, 그것을 지으신 하나님을 경배하도록 가르침을 받았다 (휴렛).
