1 Then Yahweh answered Job out of the whirlwind,Then Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,그때에 여호와께서 폭풍 가운데서 욥에게 대답하여 말씀하셨다.
2 “ Who is this who darkens counsel by words without knowledge?Who is this that darkeneth counsel By words without knowledge?"지식도 없는 말로 내 뜻을 어둡게 하는 이 사람은 누구냐?
3 Brace yourself like a man, for I will question you, then you answer me!Gird up now thy loins like a man; For I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.이제 대장부답게 네 허리를 단단히 동여매라. 내가 네게 물을 터이니 너는 내게 대답하여라!
4 “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if you have understanding.Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? Declare, if thou hast understanding.내가 땅의 기초를 놓을 때에 너는 어디에 있었느냐? 네가 깨달아 알거든 말해 보아라.
5 Who determined its measures, if you know? Or who stretched the line on it?Who determined the measures thereof, if thou knowest? Or who stretched the line upon it?누가 그 크기를 정하였는지 네가 아느냐? 누가 그 위에 측량줄을 띄웠느냐?
6 What were its foundations fastened on? Or who laid its cornerstone,Whereupon were the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner-stone thereof,그 기초는 무엇 위에 세워졌느냐? 누가 그 모퉁이돌을 놓았느냐?
7 when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?When the morning stars sang together, And all the sons of God shouted for joy?그때에 새벽 별들이 함께 노래하고 하나님의 아들들이 다 기뻐 소리쳤느니라.
8 “ Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke out of the womb,Or who shut up the sea with doors, When it brake forth, as if it had issued out of the womb;바다가 모태에서 터져 나올 때에 누가 문으로 그것을 가두었느냐?
9 when I made clouds its garment, and wrapped it in thick darkness,When I made clouds the garment thereof, And thick darkness a swaddling-band for it,그때에 내가 구름으로 그 옷을 삼고 짙은 흑암으로 그것을 감쌌으며,
10 marked out for it my bound, set bars and doors,And marked out for it my bound, And set bars and doors,그것에게 내가 정한 경계를 긋고 빗장과 문을 세우고서
11 and said, ‘ You may come here, but no further. Your proud waves shall be stopped here’?And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further; And here shall thy proud waves be stayed?이렇게 말하였다. '여기까지는 와도 되지만 더는 넘지 못한다. 네 교만한 물결은 여기서 그칠지니라.'
12 “ Have you commanded the morning in your days, and caused the dawn to know its place,Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days began, And caused the dayspring to know its place;네가 평생에 아침에게 명령한 적이 있느냐? 동틀 녘으로 제자리를 알게 한 적이 있느냐?
13 that it might take hold of the ends of the earth, and shake the wicked out of it?That it might take hold of the ends of the earth, And the wicked be shaken out of it?그리하여 그 빛이 땅의 끝들을 붙잡아 악한 자들을 거기서 떨어내게 한 적이 있느냐?
14 It is changed as clay under the seal, and presented as a garment.It is changed as clay under the seal; And all things stand forth as a garment:땅은 도장 아래 진흙처럼 변하여 그 모습이 옷처럼 뚜렷이 드러나느니라.
15 From the wicked, their light is withheld. The high arm is broken.And from the wicked their light is withholden, And the high arm is broken.악한 자들에게서는 그 빛이 거두어지고 그 높이 든 팔이 꺾이느니라.
16 “ Have you entered into the springs of the sea? Or have you walked in the recesses of the deep?Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? Or hast thou walked in the recesses of the deep?네가 바다의 근원에 들어가 본 적이 있느냐? 깊음의 밑바닥을 거닐어 본 적이 있느냐?
17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you? Or have you seen the gates of the shadow of death?Have the gates of death been revealed unto thee? Or hast thou seen the gates of the shadow of death?죽음의 문이 네게 드러난 적이 있느냐? 죽음의 그늘진 문을 네가 본 적이 있느냐?
18 Have you comprehended the earth in its width? Declare, if you know it all.Hast thou comprehended the earth in its breadth? Declare, if thou knowest it all.네가 땅의 너비를 다 헤아려 보았느냐? 그 모든 것을 안다면 말해 보아라.
19 “ What is the way to the dwelling of light? As for darkness, where is its place,Where is the way to the dwelling of light? And as for darkness, where is the place thereof,빛이 머무는 곳으로 가는 길은 어디냐? 어둠으로 말하면 그 자리는 어디냐?
20 that you should take it to its bound, that you should discern the paths to its house?That thou shouldest take it to the bound thereof, And that thou shouldest discern the paths to the house thereof?네가 그것을 제 경계까지 데려갈 수 있느냐? 그 집으로 가는 길들을 분별할 수 있느냐?
21 Surely you know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!Doubtless, thou knowest, for thou wast then born, And the number of thy days is great!정녕 너는 알 터이지, 그때에 네가 태어났고 네 날 수가 많기 때문이로다!
22 Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,Hast thou entered the treasuries of the snow, Or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,네가 눈의 곳간에 들어가 본 적이 있느냐? 우박의 창고를 본 적이 있느냐?
23 which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, Against the day of battle and war?그것은 내가 환난의 때를 위하여, 전쟁과 싸움의 날을 위하여 간직해 둔 것이니라.
24 By what way is the lightning distributed, or the east wind scattered on the earth?By what way is the light parted, Or the east wind scattered upon the earth?빛이 갈라지는 길은 어디며, 동풍이 땅 위에 흩어지는 길은 어디냐?
25 Who has cut a channel for the flood water, or the path for the thunderstorm,Who hath cleft a channel for the waterflood, Or the way for the lightning of the thunder;누가 홍수를 위하여 물길을 내었으며, 우레와 폭풍을 위하여 길을 내었느냐?
26 to cause it to rain on a land where there is no man, on the wilderness, in which there is no man,To cause it to rain on a land where no man is; On the wilderness, wherein there is no man;사람 없는 땅에, 아무도 살지 않는 광야에 비를 내려서
27 to satisfy the waste and desolate ground, to cause the tender grass to grow?To satisfy the waste and desolate ground, And to cause the tender grass to spring forth?황폐하고 메마른 땅을 적시고, 연한 풀이 돋아나게 하느냐?
28 Does the rain have a father? Or who fathers the drops of dew?Hath the rain a father? Or who hath begotten the drops of dew?비에게 아버지가 있느냐? 이슬방울은 누가 낳았느냐?
29 Whose womb did the ice come out of? Who has given birth to the gray frost of the sky?Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?얼음은 누구의 모태에서 나왔느냐? 하늘의 흰 서리는 누가 낳았느냐?
30 The waters become hard like stone, when the surface of the deep is frozen.The waters hide themselves and become like stone, And the face of the deep is frozen.물이 돌처럼 굳어지고 깊음의 표면이 얼어붙느니라.
31 “Can you bind the cluster of the Pleiades, or loosen the cords of Orion?Canst thou bind the cluster of the Pleiades, Or loose the bands of Orion?네가 묘성(플레이아데스)의 무리를 매어 둘 수 있느냐? 오리온의 줄을 풀 수 있느냐?
32 Can you lead the constellations out in their season? Or can you guide the Bear with her cubs?Canst thou lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season? Or canst thou guide the Bear with her train?네가 별자리들을 제철에 이끌어 낼 수 있느냐? 큰곰자리를 그 새끼들과 함께 인도할 수 있느냐?
33 Do you know the laws of the heavens? Can you establish its dominion over the earth?Knowest thou the ordinances of the heavens? Canst thou establish the dominion thereof in the earth?네가 하늘의 법칙들을 아느냐? 하늘이 땅을 다스리도록 세울 수 있느냐?
34 “Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover you?Canst thou lift up thy voice to the clouds, That abundance of waters may cover thee?네가 구름을 향해 네 목소리를 높여서 넘치는 물이 너를 덮게 할 수 있느냐?
35 Can you send out lightnings, that they may go? Do they report to you, ‘ Here we are’?Canst thou send forth lightnings, that they may go, And say unto thee, Here we are?네가 번개를 보내어 가게 하면 그것들이 네게 '우리가 여기 있나이다' 하고 보고하느냐?
36 Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the mind?Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who hath given understanding to the mind?누가 속마음에 지혜를 두었느냐? 누가 생각하는 마음에 깨달음을 주었느냐?
37 Who can count the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the containers of the sky,Who can number the clouds by wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven,누가 지혜로 구름을 셀 수 있느냐? 누가 하늘의 물병들을 쏟을 수 있느냐?
38 when the dust runs into a mass, and the clods of earth stick together?When the dust runneth into a mass, And the clods cleave fast together?그리하여 티끌이 굳어 덩어리가 되고 흙덩이가 서로 들러붙느니라.
39 “Can you hunt the prey for the lioness, or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,Canst thou hunt the prey for the lioness, Or satisfy the appetite of the young lions,네가 암사자를 위하여 먹이를 사냥하며 젊은 사자들의 굶주림을 채워 줄 수 있느냐?
40 when they crouch in their dens, and lie in wait in the thicket?When they couch in their dens, And abide in the covert to lie in wait?그것들이 굴에 웅크리고 덤불 속에 숨어 기다릴 때에 말이다.
41 Who provides for the raven his prey, when his young ones cry to God, and wander for lack of food?Who provideth for the raven his prey, When his young ones cry unto God, And wander for lack of food?까마귀 새끼들이 먹을 것이 없어 하나님께 부르짖으며 헤맬 때에 누가 까마귀에게 그 먹이를 마련해 주느냐?"
