1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job. That man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God, and turned away from evil.There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and turned away from evil.우스 땅에 욥이라는 사람이 있었다. 그 사람은 흠이 없고 정직하며 하나님을 경외하고 악을 멀리하는 사람이었다.
2 There were born to him seven sons and three daughters.And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters.그에게는 아들 일곱과 딸 셋이 태어났다.
3 His possessions also were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she-asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the children of the east.그의 재산은 양 칠천 마리, 낙타 삼천 마리, 소 오백 겨리, 암나귀 오백 마리였으며 종도 매우 많았다. 그래서 그는 동방 사람 가운데 가장 큰 부자였다.
4 His sons went and held a feast in the house of each one on his birthday; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.And his sons went and held a feast in the house of each one upon his day; and they sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them.그의 아들들은 각자 자기 생일이 되면 자기 집에서 잔치를 열고, 사람을 보내어 세 누이도 불러 함께 먹고 마셨다.
5 It was so, when the days of their feasting had run their course, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “ It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts.” Job did so continually.And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt-offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and renounced God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually.잔치 날들이 다 지나가면 욥은 사람을 보내어 그들을 거룩하게 하고, 아침 일찍 일어나 그들 모두의 수대로 번제를 드렸다. 욥은 "혹시 내 아들들이 죄를 짓고 마음속으로 하나님을 저버렸을지도 모른다" 하고 생각했기 때문이다. 욥은 늘 이렇게 하였다.
6 Now on the day when God’s sons came to present themselves before Yahweh, Satan also came among them.Now it came to pass on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, that Satan also came among them.하루는 하나님의 아들들이 여호와 앞에 나와 섰는데, 사탄도 그들 가운데 함께 왔다.
7 Yahweh said to Satan, “Where have you come from?” Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “ From going back and forth in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.”And Jehovah said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.여호와께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 어디서 왔느냐?" 사탄이 여호와께 대답하여 말하였다. "땅을 두루 돌아다니고 그 위를 오르내리다가 왔습니다."
8 Yahweh said to Satan, “ Have you considered my servant, Job? For there is no one like him in the earth, a blameless and an upright man, one who fears God, and turns away from evil.”And Jehovah said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job? for there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and turneth away from evil.여호와께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨다. "네가 내 종 욥을 살펴보았느냐? 그와 같이 흠이 없고 정직하며 하나님을 경외하고 악을 멀리하는 사람은 땅에 없다."
9 Then Satan answered Yahweh, and said, “ Does Job fear God for nothing?Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?그러자 사탄이 여호와께 대답하여 말하였다. "욥이 어찌 까닭 없이 하나님을 경외하겠습니까?
10 Haven’t you made a hedge around him, and around his house, and around all that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.Hast not thou made a hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath, on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.주께서 그와 그의 집과 그가 가진 모든 것의 사방에 울타리를 두르지 않으셨습니까? 주께서 그 손이 하는 일에 복을 주시니 그의 재산이 땅에서 불어났습니다.
11 But stretch out your hand now, and touch all that he has, and he will renounce you to your face.”But put forth thy hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will renounce thee to thy face.그러나 이제 주의 손을 펴서 그가 가진 모든 것을 치소서. 그러면 그가 주의 얼굴 앞에서 주를 저버릴 것입니다."
12 Yahweh said to Satan, “ Behold, all that he has is in your power. Only on himself don’t stretch out your hand.” So Satan went out from the presence of Yahweh.And Jehovah said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.여호와께서 사탄에게 말씀하셨다. "보아라, 그가 가진 모든 것이 네 손에 있다. 다만 그 몸에는 손을 대지 말아라." 그러자 사탄은 여호와 앞에서 물러갔다.
13 It fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,And it fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house,하루는 그의 아들들과 딸들이 맏형의 집에서 먹으며 포도주를 마시고 있었는데,
14 that a messenger came to Job, and said, “ The oxen were plowing, and the donkeys feeding beside them,that there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them;한 사람이 욥에게 와서 말하였다. "소들은 밭을 갈고 나귀들은 그 곁에서 풀을 뜯고 있었는데,
15 and the Sabeans attacked, and took them away. Yes, they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”and the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away: yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.스바 사람들이 습격하여 그것들을 끌어갔습니다. 종들은 칼날로 쳐 죽였고, 저 혼자만 겨우 피하여 주인께 알려 드리러 왔습니다."
16 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “ The fire of God has fallen from the sky, and has burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.그가 아직 말하고 있을 때에 또 다른 사람이 와서 말하였다. "하나님의 불이 하늘에서 떨어져 양들과 종들을 살라 버렸고, 저 혼자만 겨우 피하여 주인께 알려 드리러 왔습니다."
17 While he was still speaking, another also came and said, “ The Chaldeans made three bands, and swept down on the camels, and have taken them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you.”While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have taken them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.그가 아직 말하고 있을 때에 또 다른 사람이 와서 말하였다. "갈대아 사람들이 세 무리를 지어 낙타들을 덮쳐 끌어갔고, 종들은 칼날로 쳐 죽였습니다. 저 혼자만 겨우 피하여 주인께 알려 드리러 왔습니다."
18 While he was still speaking, there came also another, and said, “ Your sons and your daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house,While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother’s house;그가 아직 말하고 있을 때에 또 다른 사람이 와서 말하였다. "주인의 아들들과 딸들이 맏형의 집에서 먹으며 포도주를 마시고 있었는데,
19 and behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young men, and they are dead. I alone have escaped to tell you.”and, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.보십시오, 광야에서 큰 바람이 불어와 집 네 모퉁이를 치니 집이 젊은이들 위로 무너져 그들이 죽었습니다. 저 혼자만 겨우 피하여 주인께 알려 드리러 왔습니다."
20 Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped.Then Job arose, and rent his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped;그러자 욥이 일어나 자기 겉옷을 찢고 머리털을 밀고 땅에 엎드려 경배하였다.
21 He said, “ Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name.”and he said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: Jehovah gave, and Jehovah hath taken away; blessed be the name of Jehovah.그가 말하였다. "내가 어머니 태에서 알몸으로 나왔으니 알몸으로 그리로 돌아갈 것입니다. 여호와께서 주셨고 여호와께서 가져가셨으니, 여호와의 이름이 찬송을 받으시기를 바랍니다."
22 In all this, Job didn’t sin, nor charge God with wrongdoing.In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly.이 모든 일에도 욥은 죄를 짓지 않았고 하나님께 잘못을 돌리지도 않았다.
