1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,그때에 데만 사람 엘리바스가 대답하여 말하였다.
2 “ Can a man be profitable to God? Surely he who is wise is profitable to himself.Can a man be profitable unto God? Surely he that is wise is profitable unto himself.사람이 하나님께 무슨 유익을 끼칠 수 있겠는가? 지혜로운 사람이라 해도 결국 자기 자신에게 유익할 뿐이다.
3 Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous? Or does it benefit him that you make your ways perfect?Is it any pleasure to the Almighty, that thou art righteous? Or is it gain to him, that thou makest thy ways perfect?네가 의롭다고 해서 전능하신 분께 무슨 기쁨이 되겠으며, 네가 네 길을 온전하게 한다고 해서 그분께 무슨 이득이 되겠는가?
4 Is it for your piety that he reproves you, that he enters with you into judgment?Is it for thy fear of him that he reproveth thee, That he entereth with thee into judgment?그분이 너를 책망하시고 너와 더불어 심판에 들어가시는 것이 네가 경건해서이겠는가?
5 Isn’t your wickedness great? Neither is there any end to your iniquities.Is not thy wickedness great? Neither is there any end to thine iniquities.네 악이 크지 아니하냐? 네 죄악에는 끝이 없지 않으냐?
6 For you have taken pledges from your brother for nothing, and stripped the naked of their clothing.For thou hast taken pledges of thy brother for nought, And stripped the naked of their clothing.너는 까닭 없이 네 형제에게서 담보를 잡고, 헐벗은 자의 옷을 벗겼다.
7 You haven’t given water to the weary to drink, and you have withheld bread from the hungry.Thou hast not given water to the weary to drink, And thou hast withholden bread from the hungry.너는 지친 자에게 마실 물을 주지 않았고, 굶주린 자에게 빵을 주지 않고 거두어들였다.
8 But as for the mighty man, he had the earth. The honorable man, he lived in it.But as for the mighty man, he had the earth; And the honorable man, he dwelt in it.그러나 힘 있는 자는 땅을 차지하였고, 존귀한 자는 그 땅에서 살았다.
9 You have sent widows away empty, and the arms of the fatherless have been broken.Thou hast sent widows away empty, And the arms of the fatherless have been broken.너는 과부들을 빈손으로 돌려보냈고, 고아들의 팔은 꺾이고 말았다.
10 Therefore snares are around you. Sudden fear troubles you,Therefore snares are round about thee, And sudden fear troubleth thee,그러므로 올무가 너를 둘러싸고, 갑작스러운 두려움이 너를 괴롭게 한다.
11 or darkness, so that you can not see, and floods of waters cover you.Or darkness, so that thou canst not see, And abundance of waters cover thee.또는 어둠이 너를 덮어 네가 보지 못하게 하고, 넘치는 물이 너를 뒤덮는다.
12 “Isn’t God in the heights of heaven? See the height of the stars, how high they are!Is not God in the height of heaven? And behold the height of the stars, how high they are!하나님이 하늘 높은 곳에 계시지 아니하냐? 별들이 얼마나 높이 떠 있는지 그 높음을 보아라!
13 You say, ‘ What does God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?And thou sayest, What doth God know? Can he judge through the thick darkness?그런데도 너는 말하기를 "하나님이 무엇을 아시겠는가? 그분이 짙은 어둠을 뚫고 심판하실 수 있겠는가?
14 Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he doesn’t see. He walks on the vault of the sky.’Thick clouds are a covering to him, so that he seeth not; And he walketh on the vault of heaven.짙은 구름이 그분을 가리고 있어서 그분은 보지 못하시고, 하늘 궁창 위로만 거니신다" 한다.
15 Will you keep the old way, which wicked men have trodden,Wilt thou keep the old way Which wicked men have trodden?너는 악한 자들이 밟고 간 그 옛길을 그대로 지키려느냐?
16 who were snatched away before their time, whose foundation was poured out as a stream,Who were snatched away before their time, Whose foundation was poured out as a stream,그들은 때가 이르기도 전에 끌려갔고, 그 터전은 강물처럼 쏟아져 무너졌다.
17 who said to God, ‘ Depart from us!’ and, ‘ What can the Almighty do for us?’Who said unto God, Depart from us; And, What can the Almighty do for us?그들은 하나님께 말하기를 "우리에게서 떠나소서" 하였고, "전능하신 분이 우리에게 무엇을 해 주실 수 있겠는가?" 하였다.
18 Yet he filled their houses with good things, but the counsel of the wicked is far from me.Yet he filled their houses with good things: But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.그러나 그분은 좋은 것으로 그들의 집을 채워 주셨다. 악한 자들의 계략은 나에게서 멀리 있을 뿐이다.
19 The righteous see it, and are glad. The innocent ridicule them,The righteous see it, and are glad; And the innocent laugh them to scorn,의인은 그것을 보고 기뻐하며, 죄 없는 자는 그들을 비웃으며
20 saying, ‘ Surely those who rose up against us are cut off. The fire has consumed their remnant.’Saying, Surely they that did rise up against us are cut off, And the remnant of them the fire hath consumed.말하기를 "참으로 우리를 대적하여 일어선 자들이 끊어졌고, 그들의 남은 것은 불이 삼켜 버렸다" 한다.
21 “ Acquaint yourself with him now, and be at peace. By it, good will come to you.Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: Thereby good shall come unto thee.이제 그분과 친밀해지고 화평하여라. 그리하면 네게 복이 임할 것이다.
22 Please receive instruction from his mouth, and lay up his words in your heart.Receive, I pray thee, the law from his mouth, And lay up his words in thy heart.부디 그분의 입에서 나오는 가르침을 받고, 그분의 말씀을 네 마음속에 간직하여라.
23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up, if you put away unrighteousness far from your tents.If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up, If thou put away unrighteousness far from thy tents.네가 전능하신 분께로 돌아가면 네가 세워질 것이니, 불의를 네 장막에서 멀리 내쫓아라.
24 Lay your treasure in the dust, the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.And lay thou thy treasure in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks;네 보화를 티끌 속에 두고, 오빌의 금을 시냇가 돌 가운데 던져 버려라.
25 The Almighty will be your treasure, and precious silver to you.And the Almighty will be thy treasure, And precious silver unto thee.그리하면 전능하신 분이 네 보화가 되시고, 네게 귀한 은이 되실 것이다.
26 For then you will delight yourself in the Almighty, and will lift up your face to God.For then shalt thou delight thyself in the Almighty, And shalt lift up thy face unto God.그때에 너는 전능하신 분 안에서 즐거워하고, 하나님을 향하여 네 얼굴을 들게 될 것이다.
27 You will make your prayer to him, and he will hear you. You will pay your vows.Thou shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he will hear thee; And thou shalt pay thy vows.네가 그분께 기도하면 그분이 네 기도를 들으실 것이고, 너는 네 서원을 갚게 될 것이다.
28 You will also decree a thing, and it will be established to you. Light will shine on your ways.Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; And light shall shine upon thy ways.네가 또 무슨 일을 정하면 그것이 네게 이루어질 것이고, 빛이 네 길을 비출 것이다.
29 When they cast down, you will say, ‘ be lifted up.’ He will save the humble person.When they cast thee down, thou shalt say, There is lifting up; And the humble person he will save.사람들이 낮아질 때에 너는 "일으켜 주소서" 하고 말하여라. 그러면 그분이 겸손한 자를 구원하실 것이다.
30 He will even deliver him who is not innocent. Yes, he will be delivered through the cleanness of your hands.”He will deliver even him that is not innocent: Yea, he shall be delivered through the cleanness of thy hands.그분은 죄 없지 않은 자라도 건져 주실 것이니, 참으로 그는 네 손의 깨끗함으로 말미암아 구원을 얻을 것이다.
