1 Then Job answered,Then Job answered and said,그때 욥이 대답하여 말하였다.
2 “No doubt, but you are the people, and wisdom will die with you.No doubt but ye are the people, And wisdom shall die with you."정말이지 너희야말로 백성이로구나. 너희가 죽으면 지혜도 함께 사라지겠구나.
3 But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you. Yes, who doesn’t know such things as these?But I have understanding as well as you; I am not inferior to you: Yea, who knoweth not such things as these?그러나 나에게도 너희만큼의 깨달음이 있으니, 나는 너희보다 못하지 않다. 사실 이런 것들을 누가 모르겠느냐?
4 I am like one who is a joke to his neighbor, I, who called on God, and he answered. The just, the blameless man is a joke.I am as one that is a laughing-stock to his neighbor, I who called upon God, and he answered: The just, the perfect man is a laughing-stock.나는 이웃에게 웃음거리가 된 사람이다. 하나님께 부르짖었고 그분이 응답해 주셨던 내가, 의롭고 흠 없는 그 사람이 도리어 웃음거리가 되었구나.
5 In the thought of him who is at ease there is contempt for misfortune. It is ready for them whose foot slips.In the thought of him that is at ease there is contempt for misfortune; It is ready for them whose foot slippeth.편안하게 사는 자의 생각 속에는 재난을 당한 자를 향한 멸시가 있으니, 그것은 발이 미끄러지는 자에게 닥치려고 준비되어 있다.
6 The tents of robbers prosper. Those who provoke God are secure, who carry their god in their hands.The tents of robbers prosper, And they that provoke God are secure; Into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.강도들의 장막은 번성하고, 하나님을 노엽게 하는 자들은 안전하니, 자기 손으로 자기 신을 떠받드는 자들이로다.
7 “But ask the animals now, and they will teach you; the birds of the sky, and they will tell you.But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; And the birds of the heavens, and they shall tell thee:그러나 이제 짐승들에게 물어보아라. 그것들이 너에게 가르쳐 줄 것이다. 하늘의 새들에게도 물어보아라. 그것들이 너에게 일러 줄 것이다.
8 Or speak to the earth, and it will teach you. The fish of the sea will declare to you.Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee; And the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee.땅에게 말해 보아라. 그것이 너에게 가르쳐 줄 것이며, 바다의 물고기들도 너에게 알려 줄 것이다.
9 Who doesn’t know that in all these, Yahweh’s hand has done this,Who knoweth not in all these, That the hand of Jehovah hath wrought this,이 모든 것 가운데서 여호와의 손이 이 일을 이루셨음을 누가 모르겠느냐?
10 in whose hand is the life of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind?In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind?모든 생명체의 목숨과 온 인류의 숨결이 다 그분의 손안에 있다.
11 Doesn’t the ear try words, even as the palate tastes its food?Doth not the ear try words, Even as the palate tasteth its food?입천장이 음식을 맛보듯이, 귀가 말을 분별하지 않겠느냐?
12 With aged men is wisdom, in length of days understanding.With aged men is wisdom, And in length of days understanding.나이 든 사람에게 지혜가 있고, 오래 산 세월 속에 깨달음이 있다고 한다.
13 “ With God is wisdom and might. He has counsel and understanding.With God is wisdom and might; He hath counsel and understanding.그러나 하나님께 지혜와 능력이 있으시며, 그분께 계획과 깨달음이 있으시다.
14 Behold, he breaks down, and it can’t be built again. He imprisons a man, and there can be no release.Behold, he breaketh down, and it cannot be built again; He shutteth up a man, and there can be no opening.보라, 그분이 헐어 버리시면 다시 세울 수 없고, 그분이 사람을 가두시면 풀려날 수 없다.
15 Behold, he withholds the waters, and they dry up. Again, he sends them out, and they overturn the earth.Behold, he withholdeth the waters, and they dry up; Again, he sendeth them out, and they overturn the earth.보라, 그분이 물을 막으시면 마르고, 다시 물을 내보내시면 땅을 뒤덮어 버리신다.
16 With him is strength and wisdom. The deceived and the deceiver are his.With him is strength and wisdom; The deceived and the deceiver are his.그분께 힘과 지혜가 있으시니, 속는 자와 속이는 자가 다 그분의 것이다.
17 He leads counselors away stripped. He makes judges fools.He leadeth counsellors away stripped, And judges maketh he fools.그분은 모사들을 벌거벗겨 끌고 가시며, 재판관들을 어리석은 자로 만드신다.
18 He loosens the bond of kings. He binds their waist with a belt.He looseth the bond of kings, And he bindeth their loins with a girdle.그분은 왕들이 채운 결박을 풀어 버리시고, 그들의 허리를 띠로 묶으신다.
19 He leads priests away stripped, and overthrows the mighty.He leadeth priests away stripped, And overthroweth the mighty.그분은 제사장들을 벌거벗겨 끌고 가시며, 권세 있는 자들을 무너뜨리신다.
20 He removes the speech of those who are trusted, and takes away the understanding of the elders.He removeth the speech of the trusty, And taketh away the understanding of the elders.그분은 신임받던 자들의 말을 거두어 가시고, 장로들의 분별력을 빼앗으신다.
21 He pours contempt on princes, and loosens the belt of the strong.He poureth contempt upon princes, And looseth the belt of the strong.그분은 귀족들에게 멸시를 쏟아부으시고, 강한 자들의 띠를 풀어 버리신다.
22 He uncovers deep things out of darkness, and brings out to light the shadow of death.He uncovereth deep things out of darkness, And bringeth out to light the shadow of death.그분은 어둠 속에 깊이 감추인 것을 드러내시며, 죽음의 그늘을 빛 가운데로 이끌어 내신다.
23 He increases the nations, and he destroys them. He enlarges the nations, and he leads them captive.He increaseth the nations, and he destroyeth them: He enlargeth the nations, and he leadeth them captive.그분은 민족들을 번성하게 하시고 또 멸하시며, 민족들을 넓히시고 또 사로잡혀 끌려가게 하신다.
24 He takes away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, and causes them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.He taketh away understanding from the chiefs of the people of the earth, And causeth them to wander in a wilderness where there is no way.그분은 땅의 백성을 다스리는 지도자들에게서 분별력을 빼앗으시고, 길 없는 광야에서 헤매게 하신다.
25 They grope in the dark without light. He makes them stagger like a drunken man.They grope in the dark without light; And he maketh them to stagger like a drunken man.그들은 빛 없는 어둠 속에서 더듬거리며, 그분은 그들을 술 취한 사람처럼 비틀거리게 하신다.
