1 When the people saw that Moses delayed coming down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron, and said to him, “ Come, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.”And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.백성은 모세가 산에서 내려오는 것이 더디어지는 것을 보고, 아론에게 모여들어 그에게 말하였다. "일어나서 우리를 앞에서 인도할 신들을 만들어 주십시오. 우리를 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 낸 저 모세라는 사람은 어떻게 되었는지 우리가 알지 못합니다."
2 Aaron said to them, “ Take off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them to me.”And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden rings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me.아론이 그들에게 말하였다. "당신들의 아내와 아들과 딸들의 귀에 있는 금고리를 빼어 나에게로 가져오시오."
3 All the people took off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them to Aaron.And all the people brake off the golden rings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.그래서 온 백성이 자기들 귀에 있는 금고리를 빼어 아론에게로 가져왔다.
4 He received what they handed him, fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it a molded calf. Then they said, “ These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”And he received it at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, and made it a molten calf: and they said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.아론이 그들의 손에서 그것을 받아 새기는 도구로 다듬어 송아지 모양으로 부어 만들었다. 그러자 그들이 말하였다. "이스라엘아, 이것이 너희를 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 낸 너희의 신들이다."
5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made a proclamation, and said, “ Tomorrow shall be a feast to Yahweh.”And when Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To-morrow shall be a feast to Jehovah.아론이 이것을 보고 그 앞에 제단을 쌓고 선포하여 말하였다. "내일은 여호와께 드리는 절기다."
6 They rose up early on the next day, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt-offerings, and brought peace-offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.그들은 이튿날 아침 일찍 일어나 번제를 드리고 화목제를 가져왔다. 그리고 백성은 앉아서 먹고 마시며 일어나 뛰놀았다.
7 Yahweh spoke to Moses, “ Go, get down; for your people, whom you brought up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves!And Jehovah spake unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, that thou broughtest up out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves:여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "어서 내려가거라. 네가 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 낸 네 백성이 스스로 타락하였다.
8 They have turned away quickly out of the way which I commanded them. They have made themselves a molded calf, and have worshiped it, and have sacrificed to it, and said, ‘ These are your gods, Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.’”they have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed unto it, and said, These are thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.그들이 내가 명령한 길에서 빨리 떠나, 자기들을 위하여 송아지를 부어 만들고 그것에게 절하며 제사를 드리고 '이스라엘아, 이것이 너희를 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 낸 너희의 신들이다' 하고 말하였다."
9 Yahweh said to Moses, “ I have seen these people, and behold, they are a stiff-necked people.And Jehovah said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people:여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "내가 이 백성을 보니, 보아라, 목이 곧은 백성이구나.
10 Now therefore leave me alone, that my wrath may burn hot against them, and that I may consume them; and I will make of you a great nation.”now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.그러니 이제 나를 막지 말아라. 내 진노가 그들을 향하여 뜨겁게 타올라 그들을 멸하려 한다. 그리고 내가 너로 큰 민족을 이루겠다."
11 Moses begged Yahweh his God, and said, “ Yahweh, why does your wrath burn hot against your people, that you have brought out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?And Moses besought Jehovah his God, and said, Jehovah, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, that thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power and with a mighty hand?모세가 그의 하나님 여호와께 간청하여 말하였다. "여호와여, 어찌하여 당신께서 큰 능력과 강한 손으로 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내신 당신의 백성을 향하여 진노가 뜨겁게 타오릅니까?
12 Why should the Egyptians talk, saying, ‘ He brought them out for evil, to kill them in the mountains, and to consume them from the surface of the earth’? Turn from your fierce wrath, and turn away from this evil against your people.Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, saying, For evil did he bring them forth, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.어찌하여 이집트 사람들이 '그가 그들을 악한 뜻으로 이끌어 내어 산에서 죽이고 땅 위에서 멸하려 하였다' 하고 말하게 하시렵니까? 당신의 맹렬한 진노를 돌이키시고, 당신의 백성에게 내리려 하신 이 재앙을 거두어 주십시오.
13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, your servants, to whom you swore by your own self, and said to them, ‘ I will multiply your offspring as the stars of the sky, and all this land that I have spoken of I will give to your offspring, and they shall inherit it forever.’”Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.당신의 종 아브라함과 이삭과 이스라엘을 기억하여 주십시오. 당신께서 친히 그들에게 맹세하여 '내가 너희 자손을 하늘의 별처럼 많게 하고, 내가 말한 이 모든 땅을 너희 자손에게 주어 그들이 영원히 그것을 차지하게 하겠다' 하고 말씀하셨습니다."
14 So Yahweh turned away from the evil which he said he would do to his people.And Jehovah repented of the evil which he said he would do unto his people.여호와께서 당신의 백성에게 내리려 하셨던 재앙을 돌이키셨다.
15 Moses turned, and went down from the mountain, with the two tablets of the covenant in his hand; tablets that were written on both their sides. They were written on one side and on the other.And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, with the two tables of the testimony in his hand; tables that were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written.모세가 돌이켜 산에서 내려왔다. 그의 손에는 증거판 두 개가 있었으니, 양면에 글이 새겨진 판이었다. 한쪽 면과 다른 쪽 면에 글이 새겨져 있었다.
16 The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, engraved on the tablets.And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.그 판은 하나님께서 만드신 것이요, 그 글은 하나님께서 쓰신 글로서 판 위에 새겨진 것이었다.
17 When Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said to Moses, “There is the noise of war in the camp.”And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp.여호수아가 백성이 떠들며 지르는 소리를 듣고 모세에게 말하였다. "진영에서 전쟁의 소리가 납니다."
18 He said, “It isn’t the voice of those who shout for victory. It is not the voice of those who cry for being overcome; but the noise of those who sing that I hear.”And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome; but the noise of them that sing do I hear.모세가 말하였다. "이것은 승리하여 외치는 자들의 소리도 아니고, 패하여 부르짖는 자들의 소리도 아니다. 내가 듣기에는 노래하는 자들의 소리다."
19 As soon as he came near to the camp, he saw the calf and the dancing. Then Moses’ anger grew hot, and he threw the tablets out of his hands, and broke them beneath the mountain.And it came to pass, as soon as he came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.진영에 가까이 이르자 모세가 송아지와 춤추는 모습을 보았다. 모세의 분노가 뜨겁게 타올라, 손에 들었던 판을 내던져 산 아래에서 깨뜨려 버렸다.
20 He took the calf which they had made, and burned it with fire, ground it to powder, and scattered it on the water, and made the children of Israel drink it.And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it with fire, and ground it to powder, and strewed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.그는 그들이 만든 송아지를 가져다가 불에 태우고 가루가 되도록 빻아 물 위에 뿌리고는, 이스라엘 자손에게 그것을 마시게 하였다.
21 Moses said to Aaron, “ What did these people do to you, that you have brought a great sin on them?”And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought a great sin upon them?모세가 아론에게 말하였다. "이 백성이 형님에게 무엇을 하였기에, 형님이 그들에게 이렇게 큰 죄를 짓게 하였습니까?"
22 Aaron said, “Don’t let the anger of my lord grow hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil.And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on evil.아론이 말하였다. "내 주여, 노여워하지 마십시오. 이 백성이 악에 기울어 있다는 것을 당신도 아시지 않습니까?
23 For they said to me, ‘ Make us gods, which shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we don’t know what has become of him.’For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we know not what is become of him.그들이 나에게 '우리를 앞에서 인도할 신들을 만들어 주시오. 우리를 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 낸 저 모세라는 사람은 어떻게 되었는지 우리가 알지 못합니다' 하고 말하였소.
24 I said to them, ‘ Whoever has any gold, let them take it off.’ So they gave it to me; and I threw it into the fire, and out came this calf.”And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off: so they gave it me; and I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.그래서 내가 그들에게 '금붙이를 가진 사람은 누구든지 그것을 빼어 내시오' 하고 말하였고, 그들이 그것을 나에게 주기에 내가 불에 던졌더니 이 송아지가 나왔소."
25 When Moses saw that the people were out of control, ( for Aaron had let them lose control, causing derision among their enemies ),And when Moses saw that the people were broken loose, ( for Aaron had let them loose for a derision among their enemies,)모세가 백성이 걷잡을 수 없게 된 것을 보았다. 이는 아론이 그들을 풀어 놓아 원수들 앞에서 조롱거리가 되게 하였기 때문이다.
26 then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, “ Whoever is on Yahweh’s side, come to me!” All the sons of Levi gathered themselves together to him.then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Whoso is on Jehovah’s side, let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.모세가 진영 문에 서서 말하였다. "누구든지 여호와의 편에 있는 사람은 나에게로 오너라!" 그러자 레위의 모든 자손이 그에게로 모여들었다.
27 He said to them, “ Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, ‘ Every man put his sword on his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate throughout the camp, and every man kill his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.’”And he said unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Put ye every man his sword upon his thigh, and go to and fro from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbor.모세가 그들에게 말하였다. "이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. '너희는 각자 칼을 허리에 차고 진영 안 이 문에서 저 문으로 오가며, 각자 자기 형제와 동료와 이웃을 죽여라.'"
28 The sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses. About three thousand men fell of the people that day.And the sons of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.레위 자손이 모세의 말대로 하니, 그날 백성 가운데 삼천 명쯤 쓰러졌다.
29 Moses said, “ Consecrate yourselves today to Yahweh, for every man was against his son and against his brother, that he may give you a blessing today.”And Moses said, Consecrate yourselves to-day to Jehovah, yea, every man against his son, and against his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.모세가 말하였다. "오늘 너희가 각각 자기 아들과 형제를 치면서까지 자신을 여호와께 거룩히 구별하여 드렸으니, 여호와께서 오늘 너희에게 복을 내리실 것이다."
30 On the next day, Moses said to the people, “ You have sinned a great sin. Now I will go up to Yahweh. Perhaps I shall make atonement for your sin.”And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto Jehovah; peradventure I shall make atonement for your sin.이튿날 모세가 백성에게 말하였다. "너희가 큰 죄를 지었다. 이제 내가 여호와께 올라가겠다. 어쩌면 내가 너희 죄를 위하여 속죄할 수 있을지도 모른다."
31 Moses returned to Yahweh, and said, “Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made themselves gods of gold.And Moses returned unto Jehovah, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.모세가 여호와께 돌아가 말하였다. "아, 이 백성이 큰 죄를 지어 자기들을 위하여 금으로 신들을 만들었습니다.
32 Yet now, if you will, forgive their sin — and if not, please blot me out of your book which you have written.”Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin —; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.그러나 이제 만일 당신께서 그들의 죄를 용서하여 주신다면 — 그러나 그렇게 하지 않으시려거든, 청하오니 당신께서 기록하신 책에서 저를 지워 주십시오."
33 Yahweh said to Moses, “ Whoever has sinned against me, I will blot him out of my book.And Jehovah said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "누구든지 나에게 죄를 지은 자, 그를 내가 내 책에서 지우겠다.
34 Now go, lead the people to the place of which I have spoken to you. Behold, my angel shall go before you. Nevertheless, in the day when I punish, I will punish them for their sin.”And now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine angel shall go before thee; nevertheless in the day when I visit, I will visit their sin upon them.이제 가서 내가 너에게 말한 곳으로 백성을 인도하여라. 보아라, 내 천사가 너를 앞서 갈 것이다. 그러나 내가 벌하는 날에는 그들의 죄를 그들에게 벌하겠다."
35 Yahweh struck the people, because of what they did with the calf, which Aaron made.And Jehovah smote the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.여호와께서 백성을 치셨으니, 이는 그들이 아론이 만든 송아지를 만들었기 때문이다.
