1 A man of the house of Levi went and took a daughter of Levi as his wife.And there went a man of the house of Levi, and took to wife a daughter of Levi.레위 집안의 한 남자가 가서 레위의 딸을 아내로 맞이하였다.
2 The woman conceived and bore a son. When she saw that he was a fine child, she hid him three months.And the woman conceived, and bare a son: and when she saw him that he was a goodly child, she hid him three months.그 여인이 임신하여 아들을 낳았는데, 그 아이가 잘생긴 것을 보고 석 달 동안 숨겨 두었다.
3 When she could no longer hide him, she took a papyrus basket for him, and coated it with tar and with pitch. She put the child in it, and laid it in the reeds by the river’s bank.And when she could not longer hide him, she took for him an ark of bulrushes, and daubed it with slime and with pitch; and she put the child therein, and laid it in the flags by the river’s brink.더 이상 숨길 수 없게 되자, 여인은 아이를 위해 파피루스 갈대로 만든 바구니를 가져다가 역청과 송진을 발랐다. 그러고는 아이를 그 안에 넣어 강가 갈대 사이에 두었다.
4 His sister stood far off, to see what would be done to him.And his sister stood afar off, to know what would be done to him.그 아이의 누이는 멀찍이 서서 아이가 어떻게 되는지 지켜보았다.
5 Pharaoh’s daughter came down to bathe at the river. Her maidens walked along by the riverside. She saw the basket among the reeds, and sent her servant to get it.And the daughter of Pharaoh came down to bathe at the river; and her maidens walked along by the river-side; and she saw the ark among the flags, and sent her handmaid to fetch it.바로의 딸이 강에서 목욕하려고 내려왔고, 시녀들은 강가를 따라 거닐고 있었다. 그때 그 딸이 갈대 사이에 있는 바구니를 보고 여종을 보내어 가져오게 하였다.
6 She opened it, and saw the child, and behold, the baby cried. She had compassion on him, and said, “ This is one of the Hebrews’ children.”And she opened it, and saw the child: and, behold, the babe wept. And she had compassion on him, and said, This is one of the Hebrews’ children.바구니를 열어 아이를 보니, 보라, 그 아기가 울고 있었다. 그 딸은 아이를 불쌍히 여기며 말하였다. "이 아이는 히브리 사람의 아이로구나."
7 Then his sister said to Pharaoh’s daughter, “ Should I go and call a nurse for you from the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for you?”Then said his sister to Pharaoh’s daughter, Shall I go and call thee a nurse of the Hebrew women, that she may nurse the child for thee?그때 아이의 누이가 바로의 딸에게 말하였다. "제가 가서 히브리 여인들 가운데 유모를 불러다가, 그 여인이 공주님을 위해 이 아이에게 젖을 먹이게 할까요?"
8 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “ Go.” The young woman went and called the child’s mother.And Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, Go. And the maiden went and called the child’s mother.바로의 딸이 그에게 "그렇게 하여라" 하고 말하니, 그 소녀가 가서 아이의 어머니를 불러왔다.
9 Pharaoh’s daughter said to her, “ Take this child away, and nurse him for me, and I will give you your wages.” The woman took the child, and nursed him.And Pharaoh’s daughter said unto her, Take this child away, and nurse it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman took the child, and nursed it.바로의 딸이 그 여인에게 말하였다. "이 아이를 데려다가 나를 위해 젖을 먹여 길러 다오. 내가 네게 삯을 주겠다." 그 여인은 아이를 데려다가 젖을 먹여 길렀다.
10 The child grew, and she brought him to Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. She named him Moses, and said, “ Because I drew him out of the water.”And the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh’s daughter, and he became her son. And she called his name Moses, and said, Because I drew him out of the water.아이가 자라자 여인은 아이를 바로의 딸에게 데려갔고, 그는 바로의 딸의 아들이 되었다. 바로의 딸은 "내가 그를 물에서 건져 내었다"라고 하며 그 이름을 모세라 하였다.
11 In those days, when Moses had grown up, he went out to his brothers and saw their burdens. He saw an Egyptian striking a Hebrew, one of his brothers.And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown up, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he saw an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren.그 무렵 모세가 다 자랐을 때의 일이다. 그가 자기 동족에게 나가서 그들이 고된 노역에 짓눌리는 것을 보았는데, 한 이집트 사람이 자기 동족인 히브리 사람을 때리는 것을 보았다.
12 He looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no one, he killed the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he smote the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand.그가 이리저리 살펴보고 아무도 없는 것을 확인한 뒤, 그 이집트 사람을 쳐 죽여 모래 속에 묻었다.
13 He went out the second day, and behold, two men of the Hebrews were fighting with each other. He said to him who did the wrong, “ Why do you strike your fellow?”And he went out the second day, and, behold, two men of the Hebrews were striving together: and he said to him that did the wrong, Wherefore smitest thou thy fellow?이튿날 그가 다시 나가 보니, 보라, 히브리 사람 두 명이 서로 다투고 있었다. 그가 잘못한 사람에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 네 동족을 때리느냐?"
14 He said, “ Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you plan to kill me, as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses was afraid, and said, “ Surely this thing is known.”And he said, Who made thee a prince and a judge over us? thinkest thou to kill me, as thou killedst the Egyptian? And Moses feared, and said, Surely the thing is known.그 사람이 말하였다. "누가 너를 우리의 우두머리와 재판관으로 세웠느냐? 네가 이집트 사람을 죽인 것처럼 나도 죽이려는 것이냐?" 모세는 두려워하며 "이 일이 분명 드러났구나" 하고 말하였다.
15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and lived in the land of Midian, and he sat down by a well.Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.바로가 이 일을 듣고 모세를 죽이려 하였다. 그러나 모세는 바로의 얼굴을 피해 도망쳐 미디안 땅에 가서 살았고, 한 우물가에 앉았다.

"한 이집트 사람이 우리를 목자들의 손에서 건져 주었고, 또 우리를 위해 물까지 길어 양 떼에게 먹여 주었습니다."
20 He said to his daughters, “ Where is he? Why is it that you have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.”And he said unto his daughters, And where is he? why is it that ye have left the man? call him, that he may eat bread.그가 딸들에게 말하였다. "그가 어디에 있느냐? 어찌하여 그 사람을 그냥 두고 왔느냐? 그를 불러 함께 음식을 먹게 하여라."
21 Moses was content to dwell with the man. He gave Moses Zipporah, his daughter.And Moses was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Moses Zipporah his daughter.모세가 그 사람과 함께 살기로 흡족히 여기니, 그가 자기 딸 십보라를 모세에게 주었다.
22 She bore a son, and he named him Gershom, for he said, “ I have lived as a foreigner in a foreign land.”And she bare a son, and he called his name Gershom; for he said, I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.십보라가 아들을 낳자, 모세는 "내가 낯선 땅에서 나그네로 살았다" 하며 그 이름을 게르솜이라 하였다.
23 In the course of those many days, the king of Egypt died, and the children of Israel sighed because of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up to God because of the bondage.And it came to pass in the course of those many days, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage.여러 날이 지나는 동안, 이집트 왕이 죽었다. 이스라엘 자손은 그 고된 노역 때문에 탄식하며 부르짖었고, 그 노역으로 인한 부르짖음이 하나님께 올라갔다.

25 God saw the children of Israel, and God understood.And God saw the children of Israel, and God took knowledge of them.하나님께서 이스라엘 자손을 보시고, 그들을 마음에 두셨다.
