1 All the congregation of the children of Israel traveled from the wilderness of Sin, starting according to Yahweh’s commandment, and encamped in Rephidim; but there was no water for the people to drink.And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to the commandment of Jehovah, and encamped in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.이스라엘 자손의 온 회중이 여호와의 명령을 따라 신 광야를 떠나 여러 차례 옮겨 가며 행진하다가 르비딤에 진을 쳤는데, 그곳에는 백성이 마실 물이 없었다.
2 Therefore the people quarreled with Moses, and said, “ Give us water to drink.” Moses said to them, “ Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you test Yahweh?”Wherefore the people strove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah?그래서 백성이 모세와 다투며 말하였다. "우리에게 마실 물을 주십시오." 모세가 그들에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 나와 다투느냐? 어찌하여 여호와를 시험하느냐?"
3 The people were thirsty for water there; so the people murmured against Moses, and said, “ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us, our children, and our livestock with thirst?”And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore hast thou brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?그곳에서 백성이 물에 목말라 모세를 원망하며 말하였다. "어찌하여 우리를 이집트에서 데리고 올라와 우리와 우리 자식들과 우리 가축을 목말라 죽게 하려는 것입니까?"
4 Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, “ What shall I do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.”And Moses cried unto Jehovah, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they are almost ready to stone me.모세가 여호와께 부르짖으며 말하였다. "내가 이 백성을 어떻게 해야 합니까? 그들이 곧 나를 돌로 치려 합니다."
5 Yahweh said to Moses, “ Walk on before the people, and take the elders of Israel with you, and take the rod in your hand with which you struck the Nile, and go.And Jehovah said unto Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thy hand, and go.여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "백성보다 앞서 나아가고, 이스라엘 장로들을 데리고 가거라. 그리고 네가 나일강을 친 그 지팡이를 손에 들고 가거라.
6 Behold, I will stand before you there on the rock in Horeb. You shall strike the rock, and water will come out of it, that the people may drink.” Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.보아라, 내가 호렙의 그 바위 위 네 앞에 서 있겠다. 너는 그 바위를 치라. 그러면 거기서 물이 나와 백성이 마시게 될 것이다." 모세가 이스라엘 장로들이 보는 앞에서 그대로 행하였다.
7 He called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because the children of Israel quarreled, and because they tested Yahweh, saying, “ Is Yahweh among us, or not?”And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?그가 그곳의 이름을 맛사라 하고 또 므리바라 하였으니, 이는 이스라엘 자손이 다투었기 때문이며, 또 "여호와께서 우리 가운데 계시는가, 안 계시는가?" 하면서 여호와를 시험하였기 때문이다.
8 Then Amalek came and fought with Israel in Rephidim.Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.그때 아말렉이 와서 르비딤에서 이스라엘과 싸웠다.
9 Moses said to Joshua, “Choose men for us, and go out to fight with Amalek. Tomorrow I will stand on the top of the hill with God’s rod in my hand.”And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.모세가 여호수아에게 말하였다. "우리를 위하여 사람들을 뽑아 나가서 아말렉과 싸우라. 내일 내가 하나님의 지팡이를 손에 들고 산 꼭대기에 서 있겠다."
10 So Joshua did as Moses had told him, and fought with Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.그리하여 여호수아가 모세가 그에게 말한 대로 행하여 아말렉과 싸웠고, 모세와 아론과 훌은 산 꼭대기에 올라갔다.
11 When Moses held up his hand, Israel prevailed. When he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.모세가 손을 들면 이스라엘이 우세하고, 그가 손을 내리면 아말렉이 우세하였다.
12 But Moses’ hands were heavy; so they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side. His hands were steady until sunset.But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.그러나 모세의 손이 무거워지니, 그들이 돌을 가져다가 그 밑에 놓아 그가 그 위에 앉게 하였고, 아론과 훌이 한 사람은 이쪽에서, 다른 한 사람은 저쪽에서 그의 손을 떠받쳤다. 그리하여 해가 질 때까지 그의 손이 흔들리지 않았다.
13 Joshua defeated Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.여호수아가 아말렉과 그 백성을 칼날로 무찔렀다.
14 Yahweh said to Moses, “ Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under the sky.”and Jehovah said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "이것을 기념으로 책에 기록하고 여호수아의 귀에 들려주어라. 내가 아말렉에 대한 기억을 하늘 아래에서 완전히 지워 버리겠다."
15 Moses built an altar, and called its name “ Yahweh our Banner”.And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi;모세가 제단을 쌓고 그 이름을 "여호와 닛시(여호와는 나의 깃발)"라 하였다.
16 He said, “ Yah has sworn: ‘ Yahweh will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.’”and he said, Jehovah hath sworn: Jehovah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.그가 말하였다. "여호와께서 맹세하셨다. '여호와께서 대대로 아말렉과 싸우실 것이다.'"
