1 Yahweh spoke to Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,And Jehovah spake unto Moses in the plains of Moab by the Jordan at Jericho, saying,여호와께서 여리고 맞은편 요단 강 가에 있는 모압 평지에서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.
2 “ Command the children of Israel to give to the Levites cities to dwell in out of their inheritance. You shall give pasture lands for the cities around them to the Levites.Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and suburbs for the cities round about them shall ye give unto the Levites."이스라엘 자손에게 명령하여라. 그들이 받은 기업 가운데서 레위 사람에게 살 성읍들을 주게 하여라. 또한 그 성읍 둘레의 들도 레위 사람에게 주어라.
3 They shall have the cities to dwell in. Their pasture lands shall be for their livestock, and for their possessions, and for all their animals.And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and their suburbs shall be for their cattle, and for their substance, and for all their beasts.그 성읍들은 레위 사람이 살 곳이 되고, 그 둘레의 들은 그들의 가축과 재산과 모든 짐승을 위한 곳이 될 것이다.
4 “ The pasture lands of the cities, which you shall give to the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward one thousand cubits around it.And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall be from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about.너희가 레위 사람에게 줄 성읍들의 들은 성벽에서부터 바깥쪽으로 사방 천 규빗이 되게 하여라.
5 You shall measure outside of the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the middle. This shall be the pasture lands of their cities.And ye shall measure without the city for the east side two thousand cubits, and for the south side two thousand cubits, and for the west side two thousand cubits, and for the north side two thousand cubits, the city being in the midst. This shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.또 성읍을 가운데 두고, 성 밖으로 동쪽으로 이천 규빗, 남쪽으로 이천 규빗, 서쪽으로 이천 규빗, 북쪽으로 이천 규빗을 측량하여라. 이것이 그들에게 성읍들의 들이 될 것이다.
6 “ The cities which you shall give to the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which you shall give for the man slayer to flee to. Besides them you shall give forty-two cities.And the cities which ye shall give unto the Levites, they shall be the six cities of refuge, which ye shall give for the manslayer to flee unto: and besides them ye shall give forty and two cities.너희가 레위 사람에게 줄 성읍 가운데 여섯은 도피성으로 정하여, 사람을 죽인 자가 그곳으로 피하게 하여라. 그 외에도 너희는 마흔두 성읍을 더 주어라.
7 All the cities which you shall give to the Levites shall be forty-eight cities together with their pasture lands.All the cities which ye shall give to the Levites shall be forty and eight cities; them shall ye give with their suburbs.너희가 레위 사람에게 줄 성읍은 모두 마흔여덟 성읍이니, 그 들과 함께 주어라.
8 Concerning the cities which you shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many you shall take many, and from the few you shall take few. Everyone according to his inheritance which he inherits shall give some of his cities to the Levites.”And concerning the cities which ye shall give of the possession of the children of Israel, from the many ye shall take many; and from the few ye shall take few: every one according to his inheritance which he inheriteth shall give of his cities unto the Levites.너희가 이스라엘 자손의 기업 가운데서 성읍을 줄 때에는 많은 지파에게서는 많이 떼고 적은 지파에게서는 적게 떼어라. 각 지파는 자기가 받은 기업의 크기에 따라 성읍을 레위 사람에게 주어야 한다."
9 Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다.
10 “ Speak to the children of Israel, and tell them, ‘ When you pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye pass over the Jordan into the land of Canaan,"이스라엘 자손에게 말하여라. 너희가 요단 강을 건너 가나안 땅으로 들어가거든,
11 then you shall appoint for yourselves cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the man slayer who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you, that the manslayer that killeth any person unwittingly may flee thither.너희를 위해 성읍들을 정하여 도피성으로 삼아, 실수로 사람을 죽인 자가 그곳으로 피하게 하여라.
12 The cities shall be for your refuge from the avenger, that the man slayer not die until he stands before the congregation for judgment.And the cities shall be unto you for refuge from the avenger, that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation for judgment.그 성읍들은 피의 보복자를 피하는 피난처가 되어, 사람을 죽인 자가 회중 앞에 서서 재판을 받기 전에는 죽지 않게 할 것이다.
13 The cities which you shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.And the cities which ye shall give shall be for you six cities of refuge.너희가 줄 성읍은 너희를 위한 여섯 도피성이 될 것이다.
14 You shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and you shall give three cities in the land of Canaan. They shall be cities of refuge.Ye shall give three cities beyond the Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan; they shall be cities of refuge.너희는 요단 강 동편에 세 성읍을 주고, 가나안 땅에 세 성읍을 주어라. 이것들이 도피성이 될 것이다.
15 These six cities shall be refuge for the children of Israel, for the stranger, and for the foreigner living among them, that everyone who kills any person unwittingly may flee there.For the children of Israel, and for the stranger and for the sojourner among them, shall these six cities be for refuge; that every one that killeth any person unwittingly may flee thither.이 여섯 성읍은 이스라엘 자손과 그들 가운데 머무는 나그네와 거류민을 위한 피난처가 되어, 실수로 사람을 죽인 자가 누구든지 그곳으로 피하게 할 것이다.
16 “‘ But if he struck him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.But if he smote him with an instrument of iron, so that he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.만일 누가 쇠 연장으로 사람을 쳐서 죽게 하였으면, 그는 살인자다. 그 살인자는 반드시 죽임을 당해야 한다.
17 If he struck him with a stone in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.And if he smote him with a stone in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.만일 누가 사람을 죽일 만한 돌을 손에 들고 쳐서 죽게 하였으면, 그는 살인자다. 그 살인자는 반드시 죽임을 당해야 한다.
18 Or if he struck him with a weapon of wood in the hand, by which a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer. The murderer shall surely be put to death.Or if he smote him with a weapon of wood in the hand, whereby a man may die, and he died, he is a murderer: the murderer shall surely be put to death.또는 누가 사람을 죽일 만한 나무 연장을 손에 들고 쳐서 죽게 하였으면, 그는 살인자다. 그 살인자는 반드시 죽임을 당해야 한다.
19 The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death. When he meets him, he shall put him to death.The avenger of blood shall himself put the murderer to death: when he meeteth him, he shall put him to death.피의 보복자가 직접 그 살인자를 죽일 것이니, 그를 만나는 대로 죽일 것이다.
20 If he shoved him out of hatred, or hurled something at him while lying in wait, so that he died,And if he thrust him of hatred, or hurled at him, lying in wait, so that he died,만일 누가 미워하여 사람을 밀치거나, 숨어 기다렸다가 무엇을 던져 죽게 하였거나,
21 or in hostility struck him with his hand, so that he died, he who struck him shall surely be put to death. He is a murderer. The avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death when he meets him.or in enmity smote him with his hand, so that he died; he that smote him shall surely be put to death; he is a murderer: the avenger of blood shall put the murderer to death, when he meeteth him.원한을 품고 손으로 쳐서 죽게 하였으면, 그 친 자는 반드시 죽임을 당해야 한다. 그는 살인자다. 피의 보복자가 그를 만나는 대로 그 살인자를 죽일 것이다.
22 “‘ But if he shoved him suddenly without hostility, or hurled on him anything without lying in wait,But if he thrust him suddenly without enmity, or hurled upon him anything without lying in wait,그러나 만일 누가 원한이 없이 갑자기 사람을 밀쳤거나, 숨어 기다리지 않고 무엇을 그에게 던졌거나,
23 or with any stone, by which a man may die, not seeing him, and cast it on him so that he died, and he was not his enemy and not seeking his harm,or with any stone, whereby a man may die, seeing him not, and cast it upon him, so that he died, and he was not his enemy, neither sought his harm;또는 사람을 죽일 만한 돌을 보지 못한 채 떨어뜨려 죽게 하였는데, 그가 그의 원수가 아니었고 해치려는 뜻도 없었다면,
24 then the congregation shall judge between the striker and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances.then the congregation shall judge between the smiter and the avenger of blood according to these ordinances;회중은 이 규례에 따라 친 자와 피의 보복자 사이를 재판해야 한다.
25 The congregation shall deliver the man slayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, where he had fled. He shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.and the congregation shall deliver the manslayer out of the hand of the avenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to his city of refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall dwell therein until the death of the high priest, who was anointed with the holy oil.회중은 사람을 죽인 자를 피의 보복자의 손에서 건져 내어, 그가 피하였던 도피성으로 돌려보내야 한다. 그는 거룩한 기름으로 기름 부음을 받은 대제사장이 죽을 때까지 그곳에 머물러야 한다.
26 “‘ But if the man slayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge where he flees,But if the manslayer shall at any time go beyond the border of his city of refuge, whither he fleeth,그러나 사람을 죽인 자가 언제든지 자기가 피한 도피성의 경계를 벗어났을 때,
27 and the avenger of blood finds him outside of the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood kills the man slayer, he shall not be guilty of blood,and the avenger of blood find him without the border of his city of refuge, and the avenger of blood slay the manslayer; he shall not be guilty of blood,피의 보복자가 그를 도피성 경계 밖에서 발견하여 죽이더라도, 그에게는 피 흘린 죄가 없다.
28 because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest. But after the death of the high priest, the man slayer shall return into the land of his possession.because he should have remained in his city of refuge until the death of the high priest: but after the death of the high priest the manslayer shall return into the land of his possession.그 사람은 대제사장이 죽을 때까지 자기 도피성에 머물러 있어야 했기 때문이다. 그러나 대제사장이 죽은 뒤에는 사람을 죽인 자가 자기 기업의 땅으로 돌아갈 수 있다.
29 “‘ These things shall be for a statute and ordinance to you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.And these things shall be for a statute and ordinance unto you throughout your generations in all your dwellings.이것들은 너희가 사는 모든 곳에서 너희 대대로 지킬 율례와 규례가 될 것이다.
30 “‘ Whoever kills any person, the murderer shall be slain based on the testimony of witnesses; but one witness shall not testify alone against any person so that he dies.Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be slain at the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person that he die.사람을 죽인 자는 누구든지 증인들의 증언에 따라 살인자로 죽여야 한다. 그러나 한 사람의 증언만으로는 누구도 죽게 할 수 없다.
31 “‘ Moreover you shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer who is guilty of death. He shall surely be put to death.Moreover ye shall take no ransom for the life of a murderer, that is guilty of death; but he shall surely be put to death.또한 너희는 죽어 마땅한 살인자의 생명을 위하여 어떤 속전도 받지 말아라. 그는 반드시 죽임을 당해야 한다.
32 “‘ You shall take no ransom for him who has fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land before the death of the priest.And ye shall take no ransom for him that is fled to his city of refuge, that he may come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest.도피성으로 피한 자가 대제사장이 죽기 전에 자기 땅으로 돌아와 살게 하려고 어떤 속전도 받지 말아라.
33 “‘ So you shall not pollute the land where you live; for blood pollutes the land. No atonement can be made for the land for the blood that is shed in it, but by the blood of him who shed it.So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood, it polluteth the land; and no expiation can be made for the land for the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it.그러므로 너희는 너희가 사는 땅을 더럽히지 말아라. 피는 땅을 더럽히니, 땅에 흘린 피는 그 피를 흘린 자의 피로써가 아니고는 그 땅을 속할 수 없다.
34 You shall not defile the land which you inhabit, where I dwell; for I, Yahweh, dwell among the children of Israel.’”And thou shalt not defile the land which ye inhabit, in the midst of which I dwell: for I, Jehovah, dwell in the midst of the children of Israel.너희가 사는 땅, 곧 내가 그 가운데 머무는 땅을 더럽히지 말아라. 나 여호와가 이스라엘 자손 가운데 거하기 때문이다."
