1 The Canaanite, the king of Arad, who lived in the South, heard that Israel came by the way of Atharim. He fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.And the Canaanite, the king of Arad, who dwelt in the South, heard tell that Israel came by the way of Atharim; and he fought against Israel, and took some of them captive.남쪽 지방에 사는 가나안 사람, 곧 아랏 왕이 이스라엘이 아다림 길로 온다는 소식을 듣고 이스라엘과 싸워 그들 가운데 몇 사람을 사로잡았다.
2 Israel vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “If you will indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.”And Israel vowed a vow unto Jehovah, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities.이스라엘이 여호와께 서원하여 말하였다. "주께서 이 백성을 정말로 우리 손에 넘겨주시면, 우리가 그들의 성읍들을 완전히 멸하겠습니다."
3 Yahweh listened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities. The name of the place was called Hormah.And Jehovah hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and the name of the place was called Hormah.여호와께서 이스라엘의 목소리를 들으시고 가나안 사람들을 넘겨주셨다. 그리하여 이스라엘이 그들과 그들의 성읍들을 완전히 멸하였고, 그곳의 이름을 호르마라고 불렀다.
4 They traveled from Mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to go around the land of Edom. The soul of the people was very discouraged because of the journey.And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way to the Red Sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.그들은 에돔 땅을 돌아가려고 호르 산에서 홍해 길로 떠났는데, 그 길 때문에 백성의 마음이 몹시 상하였다.
5 The people spoke against God and against Moses: “ Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? For there is no bread, there is no water, and our soul loathes this disgusting food!”And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, and there is no water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.백성이 하나님과 모세를 거슬러 말하였다. "어찌하여 당신들은 우리를 이집트에서 이끌어 내어 이 광야에서 죽게 합니까? 여기에는 빵도 없고 물도 없으며, 우리 마음은 이 보잘것없는 양식을 지긋지긋해합니다."
6 Yahweh sent venomous snakes among the people, and they bit the people. Many people of Israel died.And Jehovah sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.그러자 여호와께서 불뱀들을 백성 가운데 보내셨고, 그 뱀들이 백성을 물어 이스라엘 백성 가운데 많은 사람이 죽었다.
7 The people came to Moses, and said, “ We have sinned, because we have spoken against Yahweh and against you. Pray to Yahweh, that he take away the serpents from us.” Moses prayed for the people.And the people came to Moses, and said, We have sinned, because we have spoken against Jehovah, and against thee; pray unto Jehovah, that he take away the serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people.백성이 모세에게 와서 말하였다. "우리가 여호와와 당신을 거슬러 말하여 죄를 지었습니다. 여호와께 기도하여 우리에게서 뱀들을 거두어 주시기를 구해 주십시오." 그래서 모세가 백성을 위하여 기도하였다.
8 Yahweh said to Moses, “ Make a venomous snake, and set it on a pole. It shall happen that everyone who is bitten, when he sees it, shall live.”And Jehovah said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a standard: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he seeth it, shall live.여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "불뱀을 하나 만들어 장대 위에 매달아라. 물린 사람마다 그것을 쳐다보면 살 것이다."
9 Moses made a serpent of bronze, and set it on the pole. If a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked at the serpent of bronze, he lived.And Moses made a serpent of brass, and set it upon the standard: and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he looked unto the serpent of brass, he lived.모세가 놋뱀을 만들어 장대 위에 매다니, 뱀에게 물린 사람이 그 놋뱀을 쳐다보면 살아났다.
10 The children of Israel traveled, and encamped in Oboth.And the children of Israel journeyed, and encamped in Oboth.이스라엘 자손은 길을 떠나 오봇에 진을 쳤다.
11 They traveled from Oboth, and encamped at Iyeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrise.And they journeyed from Oboth, and encamped at Iye-abarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.그들은 오봇에서 떠나 모압 앞 광야, 해 뜨는 쪽에 있는 이예아바림에 진을 쳤다.
12 From there they traveled, and encamped in the valley of Zered.From thence they journeyed, and encamped in the valley of Zered.그들은 거기서 떠나 세렛 골짜기에 진을 쳤다.
13 From there they traveled, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness that comes out of the border of the Amorites; for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.From thence they journeyed, and encamped on the other side of the Arnon, which is in the wilderness, that cometh out of the border of the Amorites: for the Arnon is the border of Moab, between Moab and the Amorites.거기서 떠나 아르논 강 건너편에 진을 쳤는데, 그곳은 아모리 사람의 경계에서 흘러나와 광야에 있는 곳이다. 아르논은 모압과 아모리 사람 사이에 있는 모압의 경계였다.
14 Therefore it is said in The Book of the Wars of Yahweh, “Vaheb in Suphah, the valleys of the Arnon,Wherefore it is said in the book of the Wars of Jehovah, Vaheb in Suphah, And the valleys of the Arnon,그래서 '여호와의 전쟁기'라는 책에 이런 말이 있다. "수바의 와헙과 아르논의 골짜기들,
15 the slope of the valleys that incline toward the dwelling of Ar, leans on the border of Moab.”And the slope of the valleys That inclineth toward the dwelling of Ar, And leaneth upon the border of Moab.그리고 아르 거주지 쪽으로 기울어 모압 경계에 닿은 골짜기들의 비탈."
16 From there they traveled to Beer; that is the well of which Yahweh said to Moses, “Gather the people together, and I will give them water.”And from thence they journeyed to Beer: that is the well whereof Jehovah said unto Moses, Gather the people together, and I will give them water.그들은 거기서 떠나 브엘로 갔다. 그곳은 여호와께서 모세에게 "백성을 모아라. 내가 그들에게 물을 주겠다"라고 말씀하신 그 우물이다.
17 Then Israel sang this song: “ Spring up, well! Sing to it,Then sang Israel this song: Spring up, O well; sing ye unto it:그때 이스라엘이 이 노래를 불렀다. "우물아, 솟아올라라. 너희는 그것을 향하여 노래하여라.
18 the well, which the princes dug, which the nobles of the people dug, with the scepter, and with their poles.” From the wilderness they traveled to Mattanah;The well, which the princes digged, Which the nobles of the people delved, With the sceptre, and with their staves. And from the wilderness they journeyed to Mattanah;이 우물은 지도자들이 판 것이요, 백성의 귀인들이 규와 지팡이로 판 것이다." 그러고 나서 그들은 광야에서 떠나 맛다나로 갔고,
19 and from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;and from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;맛다나에서 나할리엘로, 나할리엘에서 바못으로,
20 and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looks down on the desert.and from Bamoth to the valley that is in the field of Moab, to the top of Pisgah, which looketh down upon the desert.바못에서 모압 들판에 있는 골짜기로, 곧 광야를 내려다보는 비스가 꼭대기로 나아갔다.
21 Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, saying,이스라엘이 아모리 사람의 왕 시혼에게 사신들을 보내어 말하였다.
22 “ Let me pass through your land. We will not turn away into field or vineyard. We will not drink of the water of the wells. We will go by the king’s highway, until we have passed your border.”Let me pass through thy land: we will not turn aside into field, or into vineyard; we will not drink of the water of the wells: we will go by the king’s highway, until we have passed thy border."당신의 땅을 지나가게 해 주십시오. 우리는 밭이나 포도원으로 들어가지 않고, 우물물도 마시지 않겠습니다. 우리는 당신의 경계를 다 지날 때까지 왕의 큰길로만 가겠습니다."
23 Sihon would not allow Israel to pass through his border, but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz. He fought against Israel.And Sihon would not suffer Israel to pass through his border: but Sihon gathered all his people together, and went out against Israel into the wilderness, and came to Jahaz; and he fought against Israel.그러나 시혼은 이스라엘이 자기 경계를 지나가도록 허락하지 않았다. 도리어 시혼은 자기 온 백성을 모아 광야로 나와 이스라엘을 치러 야하스에 이르러 이스라엘과 싸웠다.
24 Israel struck him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, even to the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was fortified.And Israel smote him with the edge of the sword, and possessed his land from the Arnon unto the Jabbok, even unto the children of Ammon; for the border of the children of Ammon was strong.이스라엘은 칼날로 그를 쳐서 아르논에서 얍복에 이르기까지, 곧 암몬 자손에게 이르기까지 그 땅을 차지하였다. 암몬 자손의 경계가 견고하였기 때문이다.
25 Israel took all these cities. Israel lived in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all its villages.And Israel took all these cities: and Israel dwelt in all the cities of the Amorites, in Heshbon, and in all the towns thereof.이스라엘이 이 모든 성읍을 빼앗고, 아모리 사람의 모든 성읍 곧 헤스본과 그 모든 마을에 자리 잡고 살았다.
26 For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even to the Arnon.For Heshbon was the city of Sihon the king of the Amorites, who had fought against the former king of Moab, and taken all his land out of his hand, even unto the Arnon.헤스본은 아모리 사람의 왕 시혼의 성읍이었는데, 그는 이전 모압 왕과 싸워 아르논에 이르기까지 그의 모든 땅을 그 손에서 빼앗았다.
27 Therefore those who speak in proverbs say, “ Come to Heshbon. Let the city of Sihon be built and established;Wherefore they that speak in proverbs say, Come ye to Heshbon; Let the city of Sihon be built and established:그러므로 잠언으로 말하는 자들이 이렇게 말한다. "헤스본으로 오라. 시혼의 성읍이 세워지고 굳건히 서게 하라.
28 for a fire has gone out of Heshbon, a flame from the city of Sihon. It has devoured Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of the Arnon.For a fire is gone out of Heshbon, A flame from the city of Sihon: It hath devoured Ar of Moab, The lords of the high places of the Arnon.헤스본에서 불이 나오고, 시혼의 성읍에서 불꽃이 나와 모압의 아르를 삼키고, 아르논의 산당 주인들을 삼켜 버렸다.
29 Woe to you, Moab! You are undone, people of Chemosh! He has given his sons as fugitives, and his daughters into captivity, to Sihon king of the Amorites.Woe to thee, Moab! Thou art undone, O people of Chemosh: He hath given his sons as fugitives, And his daughters into captivity, Unto Sihon king of the Amorites.모압아, 너에게 화가 있다. 그모스의 백성아, 너는 망하였다. 그가 자기 아들들을 도망자로, 자기 딸들을 포로로 아모리 사람의 왕 시혼에게 넘겨주었다.
30 We have shot at them. Heshbon has perished even to Dibon. We have laid waste even to Nophah, Which reaches to Medeba.”We have shot at them; Heshbon is perished even unto Dibon, And we have laid waste even unto Nophah, Which reacheth unto Medeba.우리가 그들에게 활을 쏘았으니, 헤스본이 디본까지 망하였고, 우리가 메드바에 이르는 노바까지 황폐하게 하였다."
31 Thus Israel lived in the land of the Amorites.Thus Israel dwelt in the land of the Amorites.이렇게 이스라엘은 아모리 사람의 땅에 자리 잡고 살았다.
32 Moses sent to spy out Jazer. They took its villages, and drove out the Amorites who were there.And Moses sent to spy out Jazer; and they took the towns thereof, and drove out the Amorites that were there.모세가 사람을 보내어 야셀을 정탐하게 하니, 그들이 그 마을들을 빼앗고 거기 있던 아모리 사람들을 쫓아냈다.
33 They turned and went up by the way of Bashan. Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.And they turned and went up by the way of Bashan: and Og the king of Bashan went out against them, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei.그들은 방향을 돌려 바산 길로 올라갔다. 바산 왕 옥이 그와 그의 온 백성을 거느리고 나와 에드레이에서 싸우려 하였다.
34 Yahweh said to Moses, “Don’t fear him, for I have delivered him into your hand, with all his people, and his land. You shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who lived at Heshbon.”And Jehovah said unto Moses, Fear him not: for I have delivered him into thy hand, and all his people, and his land; and thou shalt do to him as thou didst unto Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.여호와께서 모세에게 말씀하셨다. "그를 두려워하지 마라. 내가 그와 그의 온 백성과 그의 땅을 네 손에 넘겨주었으니, 네가 헤스본에 살던 아모리 사람의 왕 시혼에게 한 것처럼 그에게도 그렇게 하여라."
35 So they struck him, with his sons and all his people, until there were no survivors; and they possessed his land.So they smote him, and his sons and all his people, until there was none left him remaining: and they possessed his land.그래서 그들은 옥과 그의 아들들과 그의 온 백성을 쳐서 한 사람도 남기지 않고 멸하고 그의 땅을 차지하였다.
