1 The children of Israel traveled, and encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho.And the children of Israel journeyed, and encamped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan at Jericho.이스라엘 자손이 길을 떠나, 요단강 건너편 여리고 맞은편 모압 평원에 진을 쳤다.
2 Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.And Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.십볼의 아들 발락은 이스라엘이 아모리 사람에게 행한 모든 일을 보았다.
3 Moab was very afraid of the people, because they were many. Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.And Moab was sore afraid of the people, because they were many: and Moab was distressed because of the children of Israel.모압은 그 백성이 너무 많아서 몹시 두려워하였고, 이스라엘 자손 때문에 근심에 빠졌다.
4 Moab said to the elders of Midian, “ Now this multitude will lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field.” Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now will this multitude lick up all that is round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.모압은 미디안 장로들에게 말하였다. "소가 들의 풀을 핥아 먹듯이, 이제 이 무리가 우리 주위의 모든 것을 핥아 먹어 버릴 것이오." 그때에 십볼의 아들 발락이 모압의 왕이었다.
5 He sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, “ Behold, there is a people who came out of Egypt. Behold, they cover the surface of the earth, and they are staying opposite me.And he sent messengers unto Balaam the son of Beor, to Pethor, which is by the River, to the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me.그는 브올의 아들 발람을 부르려고, 강가에 있는 브돌, 곧 그의 백성이 사는 땅으로 사신들을 보내어 말하였다. "보시오, 한 백성이 이집트에서 나왔는데, 그들이 땅의 표면을 뒤덮고 내 맞은편에 자리잡고 있소.
6 Please come now therefore, and curse this people for me; for they are too mighty for me. Perhaps I shall prevail, that we may strike them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land; for I know that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.그러니 이제 와서 나를 위해 이 백성을 저주해 주시오. 그들은 나에게 너무 강하오. 혹시 내가 그들을 쳐서 이 땅에서 몰아낼 수 있을지도 모르겠소. 나는 당신이 복을 비는 자는 복을 받고, 당신이 저주하는 자는 저주받는 줄을 알고 있소."
7 The elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand. They came to Balaam, and spoke to him the words of Balak.And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the rewards of divination in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spake unto him the words of Balak.모압 장로들과 미디안 장로들이 점치는 보수를 손에 들고 떠나, 발람에게 이르러 발락의 말을 전하였다.
8 He said to them, “ Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as Yahweh shall speak to me.” The princes of Moab stayed with Balaam.And he said unto them, Lodge here this night, and I will bring you word again, as Jehovah shall speak unto me: and the princes of Moab abode with Balaam.그가 그들에게 말하였다. "오늘 밤은 여기서 묵으시오. 여호와께서 내게 말씀하시는 대로 답을 전해 드리겠소." 그래서 모압의 고관들이 발람과 함께 머물렀다.
9 God came to Balaam, and said, “ Who are these men with you?”And God came unto Balaam, and said, What men are these with thee?하나님께서 발람에게 오셔서 말씀하셨다. "너와 함께 있는 이 사람들은 누구냐?"
10 Balaam said to God, “ Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has said to me,And Balaam said unto God, Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, hath sent unto me, saying,발람이 하나님께 말하였다. "모압 왕 십볼의 아들 발락이 제게 사람을 보내어 말하기를,
11 ‘ Behold, the people that has come out of Egypt covers the surface of the earth. Now, come curse them for me. Perhaps I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.’”Behold, the people that is come out of Egypt, it covereth the face of the earth: now, come curse me them; peradventure I shall be able to fight against them, and shall drive them out.'보라, 이집트에서 나온 백성이 땅의 표면을 뒤덮었으니, 이제 와서 나를 위해 그들을 저주하라. 혹시 내가 그들과 싸워 그들을 몰아낼 수 있을지도 모른다'고 하였습니다."
12 God said to Balaam, “ You shall not go with them. You shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”And God said unto Balaam, Thou shalt not go with them; thou shalt not curse the people; for they are blessed.하나님께서 발람에게 말씀하셨다. "너는 그들과 함께 가지 말라. 그 백성을 저주하지도 말라. 그들은 복을 받은 자들이다."
13 Balaam rose up in the morning, and said to the princes of Balak, “ Go to your land; for Yahweh refuses to permit me to go with you.”And Balaam rose up in the morning, and said unto the princes of Balak, Get you into your land; for Jehovah refuseth to give me leave to go with you.발람이 아침에 일어나 발락의 고관들에게 말하였다. "당신들의 땅으로 돌아가시오. 여호와께서 나를 당신들과 함께 가도록 허락하지 않으십니다."
14 The princes of Moab rose up, and they went to Balak, and said, “ Balaam refuses to come with us.”And the princes of Moab rose up, and they went unto Balak, and said, Balaam refuseth to come with us.모압의 고관들이 일어나 발락에게 가서 말하였다. "발람이 우리와 함께 오기를 거절합니다."
15 Balak again sent princes, more, and more honorable than they.And Balak sent yet again princes, more, and more honorable than they.발락이 다시 고관들을 보냈는데, 이번에는 더 많고 더 존귀한 자들이었다.
16 They came to Balaam, and said to him, “ Balak the son of Zippor says, ‘ Please let nothing hinder you from coming to me,And they came to Balaam, and said to him, Thus saith Balak the son of Zippor, Let nothing, I pray thee, hinder thee from coming unto me:그들이 발람에게 이르러 말하였다. "십볼의 아들 발락이 이렇게 말합니다. '청하건대 아무것도 당신이 내게 오는 것을 막지 못하게 하시오.
17 for I will promote you to very great honor, and whatever you say to me I will do. Please come therefore, and curse this people for me.’”for I will promote thee unto very great honor, and whatsoever thou sayest unto me I will do: come therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people.내가 당신을 극진히 높여 존귀하게 하고, 당신이 내게 말하는 것은 무엇이든 다 하겠소. 그러니 청하건대 와서 나를 위해 이 백성을 저주해 주시오.'"
18 Balaam answered the servants of Balak, “If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I can’t go beyond the word of Yahweh my God, to do less or more.And Balaam answered and said unto the servants of Balak, If Balak would give me his house full of silver and gold, I cannot go beyond the word of Jehovah my God, to do less or more.발람이 발락의 신하들에게 대답하였다. "발락이 그의 집에 가득한 은과 금을 내게 준다 해도, 나는 내 하나님 여호와의 말씀을 어기고 그보다 작은 일이든 큰 일이든 행할 수 없소.
19 Now therefore please stay here tonight as well, that I may know what else Yahweh will speak to me.”Now therefore, I pray you, tarry ye also here this night, that I may know what Jehovah will speak unto me more.그러니 이제 당신들도 오늘 밤 여기서 묵으시오. 여호와께서 내게 무엇을 더 말씀하실지 내가 알아보겠소."
20 God came to Balaam at night, and said to him, “If the men have come to call you, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak to you, that you shall do.”And God came unto Balaam at night, and said unto him, If the men are come to call thee, rise up, go with them; but only the word which I speak unto thee, that shalt thou do.하나님께서 밤에 발람에게 오셔서 말씀하셨다. "그 사람들이 너를 부르러 왔거든 일어나 그들과 함께 가라. 그러나 오직 내가 네게 이르는 그 말만 행하여라."
21 Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his donkey, and went with the princes of Moab.And Balaam rose up in the morning, and saddled his ass, and went with the princes of Moab.발람이 아침에 일어나 자기 나귀에 안장을 얹고 모압 고관들과 함께 갔다.
22 God’s anger burned because he went; and Yahweh’s angel placed himself in the way as an adversary against him. Now he was riding on his donkey, and his two servants were with him.And God’s anger was kindled because he went; and the angel of Jehovah placed himself in the way for an adversary against him. Now he was riding upon his ass, and his two servants were with him.그가 간 것 때문에 하나님께서 진노하셨고, 여호와의 천사가 그를 막아서는 대적으로 길에 섰다. 그때 그는 나귀를 타고 있었고, 그의 두 종이 함께 있었다.
23 The donkey saw Yahweh’s angel standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the donkey turned out of the path, and went into the field. Balaam struck the donkey, to turn her into the path.And the ass saw the angel of Jehovah standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and the ass turned aside out of the way, and went into the field: and Balaam smote the ass, to turn her into the way.나귀가 칼을 빼어 손에 든 여호와의 천사가 길에 서 있는 것을 보고, 길에서 벗어나 밭으로 들어갔다. 발람이 나귀를 길로 돌이키려고 때렸다.
24 Then Yahweh’s angel stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.Then the angel of Jehovah stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, a wall being on this side, and a wall on that side.그러자 여호와의 천사가 포도원 사이의 좁은 길에 섰는데, 이쪽에도 담이 있고 저쪽에도 담이 있었다.
25 The donkey saw Yahweh’s angel, and she thrust herself to the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall. He struck her again.And the ass saw the angel of Jehovah, and she thrust herself unto the wall, and crushed Balaam’s foot against the wall: and he smote her again.나귀가 여호와의 천사를 보고 담에 바싹 붙어 발람의 발을 담에 짓눌렀다. 그래서 그가 나귀를 다시 때렸다.
26 Yahweh’s angel went further, and stood in a narrow place, where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.And the angel of Jehovah went further, and stood in a narrow place, where was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.여호와의 천사가 더 나아가, 좌우 어느 쪽으로도 돌이킬 길이 없는 좁은 곳에 섰다.
27 The donkey saw Yahweh’s angel, and she lay down under Balaam. Balaam’s anger burned, and he struck the donkey with his staff.And the ass saw the angel of Jehovah, and she lay down under Balaam: and Balaam’s anger was kindled, and he smote the ass with his staff.나귀가 여호와의 천사를 보고 발람을 태운 채 엎드려 버렸다. 발람이 진노하여 지팡이로 나귀를 때렸다.
28 Yahweh opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam, “ What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?”And Jehovah opened the mouth of the ass, and she said unto Balaam, What have I done unto thee, that thou hast smitten me these three times?여호와께서 나귀의 입을 여시니, 나귀가 발람에게 말하였다. "내가 당신에게 무엇을 잘못했기에 나를 이렇게 세 번이나 때리십니까?"
29 Balaam said to the donkey, “ Because you have mocked me, I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would have killed you.”And Balaam said unto the ass, Because thou hast mocked me: I would there were a sword in my hand, for now I had killed thee.발람이 나귀에게 말하였다. "네가 나를 조롱하였기 때문이다. 내 손에 칼이 있었다면 지금 너를 죽였을 것이다."
30 The donkey said to Balaam, “Am I not your donkey, on which you have ridden all your life long until today? Was I ever in the habit of doing so to you?” He said, “ No.”And the ass said unto Balaam, Am not I thine ass, upon which thou hast ridden all thy life long unto this day? was I ever wont to do so unto thee? and he said, Nay.나귀가 발람에게 말하였다. "나는 당신이 평생 오늘까지 타고 다니던 당신의 나귀가 아닙니까? 내가 전에 당신에게 이렇게 한 적이 있었습니까?" 그가 말하였다. "없다."
31 Then Yahweh opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw Yahweh’s angel standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.Then Jehovah opened the eyes of Balaam, and he saw the angel of Jehovah standing in the way, with his sword drawn in his hand; and he bowed his head, and fell on his face.그때 여호와께서 발람의 눈을 여시니, 그가 칼을 빼어 손에 든 여호와의 천사가 길에 서 있는 것을 보았다. 그는 머리를 숙이고 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸다.
32 Yahweh’s angel said to him, “ Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way is perverse before me.And the angel of Jehovah said unto him, Wherefore hast thou smitten thine ass these three times? behold, I am come forth for an adversary, because thy way is perverse before me:여호와의 천사가 그에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 네 나귀를 이렇게 세 번이나 때렸느냐? 보라, 네 길이 내 앞에서 비뚤어졌으므로 내가 너를 막는 대적으로 나왔다.
33 The donkey saw me, and turned away before me these three times. Unless she had turned away from me, surely now I would have killed you, and saved her alive.”and the ass saw me, and turned aside before me these three times: unless she had turned aside from me, surely now I had even slain thee, and saved her alive.나귀가 나를 보고 내 앞에서 이렇게 세 번을 비켜섰다. 나귀가 내게서 비켜서지 않았다면, 분명히 내가 지금 너를 죽이고 나귀는 살려 두었을 것이다."
34 Balaam said to Yahweh’s angel, “ I have sinned; for I didn’t know that you stood in the way against me. Now therefore, if it displeases you, I will go back again.”And Balaam said unto the angel of Jehovah, I have sinned; for I knew not that thou stoodest in the way against me: now therefore, if it displease thee, I will get me back again.발람이 여호와의 천사에게 말하였다. "제가 죄를 지었습니다. 당신이 길에서 저를 막고 서 계신 줄을 제가 알지 못하였습니다. 이제 만일 이 일이 당신께 마땅하지 않으면, 제가 돌아가겠습니다."
35 Yahweh’s angel said to Balaam, “ Go with the men; but you shall only speak the word that I shall speak to you.” So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.And the angel of Jehovah said unto Balaam, Go with the men; but only the word that I shall speak unto thee, that thou shalt speak. So Balaam went with the princes of Balak.여호와의 천사가 발람에게 말하였다. "그 사람들과 함께 가라. 그러나 오직 내가 네게 이르는 그 말만 전하여라." 그래서 발람이 발락의 고관들과 함께 갔다.
36 When Balak heard that Balaam had come, he went out to meet him to the City of Moab, which is on the border of the Arnon, which is in the utmost part of the border.And when Balak heard that Balaam was come, he went out to meet him unto the City of Moab, which is on the border of the Arnon, which is in the utmost part of the border.발락이 발람이 온다는 소식을 듣고, 그를 맞으려고 아르논 경계에 있는, 곧 그 경계의 맨 끝에 있는 모압 성읍으로 나갔다.
37 Balak said to Balaam, “Didn’t I earnestly send for you to summon you? Why didn’t you come to me? Am I not able indeed to promote you to honor?”And Balak said unto Balaam, Did I not earnestly send unto thee to call thee? wherefore camest thou not unto me? am I not able indeed to promote thee to honor?발락이 발람에게 말하였다. "내가 당신을 부르려고 간곡히 사람을 보내지 않았소? 어찌하여 내게 오지 않았소? 내가 정말로 당신을 존귀하게 높일 능력이 없겠소?"
38 Balaam said to Balak, “ Behold, I have come to you. Have I now any power at all to speak anything? I will speak the word that God puts in my mouth.”And Balaam said unto Balak, Lo, I am come unto thee: have I now any power at all to speak anything? the word that God putteth in my mouth, that shall I speak.발람이 발락에게 말하였다. "보시오, 내가 당신에게 왔소. 그러나 내가 이제 무슨 말을 말할 권한이라도 있겠소? 하나님께서 내 입에 넣어 주시는 말씀, 그것만 내가 말할 것이오."
39 Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath Huzoth.And Balaam went with Balak, and they came unto Kiriath-huzoth.발람이 발락과 함께 가서 기럇 후솟에 이르렀다.
40 Balak sacrificed cattle and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes who were with him.And Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent to Balaam, and to the princes that were with him.발락이 소와 양을 잡아 발람과 그와 함께 있는 고관들에게 보냈다.
41 In the morning, Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal; and he saw from there part of the people.And it came to pass in the morning, that Balak took Balaam, and brought him up into the high places of Baal; and he saw from thence the utmost part of the people.아침이 되어 발락이 발람을 데리고 바알의 산당으로 올라가니, 거기서 그가 그 백성의 맨 끝부분을 보았다.
