1 When Yahweh your God cuts off the nations whose land Yahweh your God gives you, and you succeed them and dwell in their cities and in their houses,When Jehovah thy God shall cut off the nations, whose land Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and thou succeedest them, and dwellest in their cities, and in their houses;여호와 너희 하나님께서 그 땅을 너희에게 주시는 민족들을 끊어 내시고, 너희가 그들을 이어받아 그들의 성읍과 그들의 집에 거주하게 될 때,
2 you shall set apart three cities for yourselves in the middle of your land, which Yahweh your God gives you to possess.thou shalt set apart three cities for thee in the midst of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess it.너희는 여호와 너희 하나님께서 너희에게 차지하라고 주시는 땅 가운데에 너희를 위하여 세 성읍을 따로 구별해 두어라.
3 You shall prepare the way, and divide the borders of your land which Yahweh your God causes you to inherit into three parts, that every man slayer may flee there.Thou shalt prepare thee the way, and divide the borders of thy land, which Jehovah thy God causeth thee to inherit, into three parts, that every manslayer may flee thither.여호와 너희 하나님께서 너희에게 유산으로 물려주시는 땅의 경계를 셋으로 나누고 길을 닦아, 사람을 죽인 자는 누구든지 그곳으로 도망할 수 있게 하여라.
4 This is the case of the man slayer who shall flee there and live: Whoever kills his neighbor unintentionally, and didn’t hate him in time past —And this is the case of the manslayer, that shall flee thither and live: whoso killeth his neighbor unawares, and hated him not in time past;그곳으로 도망하여 살 수 있는 살인자의 경우는 이러하다. 곧 본래 이웃을 미워하지 않았는데 뜻하지 않게 그를 죽인 자이다.
5 as when a man goes into the forest with his neighbor to chop wood and his hand swings the ax to cut down the tree, and the head slips from the handle and hits his neighbor so that he dies — he shall flee to one of these cities and live.as when a man goeth into the forest with his neighbor to hew wood, and his hand fetcheth a stroke with the axe to cut down the tree, and the head slippeth from the helve, and lighteth upon his neighbor, so that he dieth; he shall flee unto one of these cities and live:예를 들어, 어떤 사람이 이웃과 함께 나무를 베러 숲에 들어가 손에 도끼를 들고 나무를 찍으려 할 때, 도끼날이 자루에서 빠져 이웃에게 맞아 그가 죽었다면, 그 사람은 이 성읍 가운데 하나로 도망하여 살 수 있다.
6 Otherwise, the avenger of blood might pursue the man slayer while hot anger is in his heart and overtake him, because the way is long, and strike him mortally, even though he was not worthy of death, because he didn’t hate him in time past.lest the avenger of blood pursue the manslayer, while his heart is hot, and overtake him, because the way is long, and smite him mortally; whereas he was not worthy of death, inasmuch as he hated him not in time past.그렇게 하지 않으면, 피의 보복자가 분이 끓는 마음으로 그 살인자를 뒤쫓다가 길이 멀어 그를 따라잡아 죽이게 될 것이다. 그러나 그는 본래 이웃을 미워하지 않았으니 죽을 죄를 지은 것이 아니다.
7 Therefore I command you to set apart three cities for yourselves.Wherefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt set apart three cities for thee.그러므로 내가 너희에게 명하여 이르노니, 너희를 위하여 세 성읍을 따로 구별해 두어라.
8 If Yahweh your God enlarges your border, as he has sworn to your fathers, and gives you all the land which he promised to give to your fathers;And if Jehovah thy God enlarge thy border, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers, and give thee all the land which he promised to give unto thy fathers;여호와 너희 하나님께서 너희 조상들에게 맹세하신 대로 너희 경계를 넓히시고, 너희 조상들에게 주마고 약속하신 모든 땅을 너희에게 주실 때,
9 and if you keep all this commandment to do it, which I command you today, to love Yahweh your God, and to walk ever in his ways, then you shall add three cities more for yourselves, in addition to these three.if thou shalt keep all this commandment to do it, which I command thee this day, to love Jehovah thy God, and to walk ever in his ways; then shalt thou add three cities more for thee, besides these three:곧 너희가 오늘 내가 명하는 이 모든 명령을 지켜 행하고, 여호와 너희 하나님을 사랑하며 언제나 그분의 길로 걸으면, 너희는 이 세 성읍 외에 세 성읍을 너희를 위하여 더 두어라.
10 This is so that innocent blood will not be shed in the middle of your land which Yahweh your God gives you for an inheritance, leaving blood guilt on you.that innocent blood be not shed in the midst of thy land, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee for an inheritance, and so blood be upon thee.이는 여호와 너희 하나님께서 너희에게 유산으로 주시는 너희 땅 가운데에서 무죄한 피가 흘려져 그 피가 너희에게 돌아오지 않게 하려는 것이다.
11 But if any man hates his neighbor, lies in wait for him, rises up against him, strikes him mortally so that he dies, and he flees into one of these cities;But if any man hate his neighbor, and lie in wait for him, and rise up against him, and smite him mortally so that he dieth, and he flee into one of these cities;그러나 누구든지 자기 이웃을 미워하여 숨어 기다리다가 그를 덮쳐 쳐서 죽이고 이 성읍 가운데 하나로 도망하거든,
12 then the elders of his city shall send and bring him there, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.then the elders of his city shall send and fetch him thence, and deliver him into the hand of the avenger of blood, that he may die.그 성읍의 장로들이 사람을 보내어 거기서 그를 끌어내어 피의 보복자의 손에 넘겨 죽게 하여라.
13 Your eye shall not pity him, but you shall purge the innocent blood from Israel that it may go well with you.Thine eye shall not pity him, but thou shalt put away the innocent blood from Israel, that it may go well with thee.너희는 그를 불쌍히 여기지 말고, 무죄한 피의 죄를 이스라엘에서 없애 버려라. 그리하면 너희가 잘될 것이다.
14 You shall not remove your neighbor’s landmark, which they of old time have set, in your inheritance which you shall inherit, in the land that Yahweh your God gives you to possess.Thou shalt not remove thy neighbor’s landmark, which they of old time have set, in thine inheritance which thou shalt inherit, in the land that Jehovah thy God giveth thee to possess it.여호와 너희 하나님께서 너희에게 차지하라고 주시는 땅, 곧 너희가 물려받을 유산에서 옛사람들이 정해 놓은 너희 이웃의 경계표를 옮기지 말아라.
15 One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin that he sins. At the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.One witness shall not rise up against a man for any iniquity, or for any sin, in any sin that he sinneth: at the mouth of two witnesses, or at the mouth of three witnesses, shall a matter be established.어떤 사람이 무슨 죄악이나 어떤 죄를 지었든지, 한 증인만으로는 그를 고발할 수 없다. 두 증인이나 세 증인의 입으로 그 일을 확정해야 한다.
16 If an unrighteous witness rises up against any man to testify against him of wrongdoing,If an unrighteous witness rise up against any man to testify against him of wrong-doing,만일 불의한 증인이 어떤 사람에게 일어나 그의 잘못을 거짓으로 증언하거든,
17 then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Yahweh, before the priests and the judges who shall be in those days;then both the men, between whom the controversy is, shall stand before Jehovah, before the priests and the judges that shall be in those days;그 다툼이 있는 두 사람은 여호와 앞에, 곧 그때에 있을 제사장들과 재판관들 앞에 서야 한다.
18 and the judges shall make diligent inquisition; and behold, if the witness is a false witness, and has testified falsely against his brother,and the judges shall make diligent inquisition: and, behold, if the witness be a false witness, and have testified falsely against his brother;재판관들은 자세히 살펴 조사할 것이니, 보라, 그 증인이 거짓 증인으로서 자기 형제를 거짓으로 고발한 것이면,
19 then you shall do to him as he had thought to do to his brother. So you shall remove the evil from among you.then shall ye do unto him, as he had thought to do unto his brother: so shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.그가 자기 형제에게 행하려고 꾀했던 그대로 그에게 행하여, 너희 가운데에서 악을 없애 버려라.
20 Those who remain shall hear, and fear, and will never again commit any such evil among you.And those that remain shall hear, and fear, and shall henceforth commit no more any such evil in the midst of thee.남은 사람들이 듣고 두려워하여, 다시는 너희 가운데에서 그러한 악을 행하지 않을 것이다.
21 Your eyes shall not pity: life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.And thine eyes shall not pity; life shall go for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.너희는 그를 불쌍히 여기지 말아라. 생명은 생명으로, 눈은 눈으로, 이는 이로, 손은 손으로, 발은 발로 갚아야 한다.
