1 Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, “ None of us will give his daughter to Benjamin as a wife.”Now the men of Israel had sworn in Mizpah, saying, There shall not any of us give his daughter unto Benjamin to wife.이스라엘 사람들은 미스바에서 맹세하여 이렇게 말한 바 있었다. "우리 중 아무도 자기 딸을 베냐민 사람에게 아내로 주지 않겠다."
2 The people came to Bethel and sat there until evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept severely.And the people came to Beth-el, and sat there till even before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept sore.백성이 벧엘로 와서 하나님 앞에서 저녁때까지 거기에 앉아 있었고, 소리 높여 몹시 울었다.
3 They said, “ Yahweh, the God of Israel, why has this happened in Israel, that there should be one tribe lacking in Israel today?”And they said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, why is this come to pass in Israel, that there should be to-day one tribe lacking in Israel?그들이 말하였다. "이스라엘의 하나님 여호와여, 어찌하여 이런 일이 이스라엘에 일어나서 오늘 이스라엘 가운데 한 지파가 사라지게 되었습니까?"
4 On the next day, the people rose early and built an altar there, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings.And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings.이튿날 백성이 일찍 일어나 거기에 제단을 쌓고 번제와 화목제를 드렸다.
5 The children of Israel said, “ Who is there among all the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up in the assembly to Yahweh?” For they had made a great oath concerning him who didn’t come up to Yahweh to Mizpah, saying, “ He shall surely be put to death.”And the children of Israel said, Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that came not up in the assembly unto Jehovah? For they had made a great oath concerning him that came not up unto Jehovah to Mizpah, saying, He shall surely be put to death.이스라엘 자손이 말하였다. "이스라엘 모든 지파 가운데 여호와께로 나아온 총회에 올라오지 않은 자가 누구인가?" 미스바로 여호와께 올라오지 않은 자는 반드시 죽이기로 그들이 크게 맹세하였기 때문이다.
6 The children of Israel grieved for Benjamin their brother, and said, “ There is one tribe cut off from Israel today.And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.이스라엘 자손이 자기 형제 베냐민을 두고 슬퍼하며 말하였다. "오늘 이스라엘에서 한 지파가 끊어졌구나.
7 How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since we have sworn by Yahweh that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?”How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by Jehovah that we will not give them of our daughters to wives?우리가 여호와로 맹세하여 우리 딸들을 그들에게 아내로 주지 않겠다고 하였으니, 남은 자들에게 어떻게 아내를 마련해 줄 수 있겠는가?"
8 They said, “ What one is there of the tribes of Israel who didn’t come up to Yahweh to Mizpah?” Behold, no one came from Jabesh Gilead to the camp to the assembly.And they said, What one is there of the tribes of Israel that came not up unto Jehovah to Mizpah? And, behold, there came none to the camp from Jabesh-gilead to the assembly.그들이 또 말하였다. "이스라엘 지파 가운데 미스바로 여호와께 올라오지 않은 자가 누구인가?" 보라, 야베스 길르앗에서는 아무도 진영의 총회에 오지 않았다.
9 For when the people were counted, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead there.For when the people were numbered, behold, there were none of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead there.백성을 계수하니, 보라, 야베스 길르앗 주민은 한 사람도 거기 없었다.
10 The congregation sent twelve thousand of the most valiant men there, and commanded them, saying, “ Go and strike the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.And the congregation sent thither twelve thousand men of the valiantest, and commanded them, saying, Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the little ones.회중이 가장 용맹한 군사 일만 이천 명을 그곳으로 보내며 명하여 말하였다. "가서 야베스 길르앗 주민을 칼날로 쳐서 여자와 어린아이까지 죽이라.
11 This is the thing that you shall do: you shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman who has lain with a man.”And this is the thing that ye shall do: ye shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that hath lain by man.너희가 행할 일은 이것이니, 남자는 모두, 그리고 남자와 동침한 적이 있는 여자는 모두 진멸하라."
12 They found among the inhabitants of Jabesh Gilead four hundred young virgins who had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins, that had not known man by lying with him; and they brought them unto the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan.그들이 야베스 길르앗 주민 가운데서 남자와 동침하여 남자를 알지 못한 처녀 사백 명을 찾아내어 가나안 땅에 있는 실로 진영으로 데려왔다.
13 The whole congregation sent and spoke to the children of Benjamin who were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace to them.And the whole congregation sent and spake to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock of Rimmon, and proclaimed peace unto them.온 회중이 림몬 바위에 있는 베냐민 자손에게 사람을 보내어 그들에게 화친을 선포하였다.
14 Benjamin returned at that time; and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh Gilead. There still weren’t enough for them.And Benjamin returned at that time; and they gave them the women whom they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.그때에 베냐민이 돌아오니, 사람들이 야베스 길르앗 여자들 가운데 살려 둔 여자들을 그들에게 주었다. 그러나 그래도 그들에게는 충분하지 않았다.
15 The people grieved for Benjamin, because Yahweh had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.And the people repented them for Benjamin, because that Jehovah had made a breach in the tribes of Israel.여호와께서 이스라엘 지파들 가운데 틈이 생기게 하셨으므로 백성이 베냐민을 두고 슬퍼하였다.
16 Then the elders of the congregation said, “ How shall we provide wives for those who remain, since the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?”Then the elders of the congregation said, How shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?회중의 장로들이 말하였다. "베냐민에서 여자들이 진멸되었으니, 남은 자들에게 어떻게 아내를 마련해 줄 수 있겠는가?"
17 They said, “There must be an inheritance for those who are escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe not be blotted out from Israel.And they said, There must be an inheritance for them that are escaped of Benjamin, that a tribe be not blotted out from Israel.그들이 또 말하였다. "한 지파가 이스라엘에서 지워지지 않도록, 베냐민의 살아남은 자들에게 기업이 있어야 한다.
18 However, we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Israel had sworn, saying, ‘Cursed is he who gives a wife to Benjamin.’”Howbeit we may not give them wives of our daughters, for the children of Israel had sworn, saying, Cursed be he that giveth a wife to Benjamin.그러나 우리는 우리 딸들을 그들에게 아내로 줄 수 없으니, 이는 이스라엘 자손이 '베냐민에게 아내를 주는 자는 저주를 받을지어다' 하고 맹세하였기 때문이다."
19 They said, “ Behold, there is a feast of Yahweh from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.”And they said, Behold, there is a feast of Jehovah from year to year in Shiloh, which is on the north of Beth-el, on the east side of the highway that goeth up from Beth-el to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.그들이 말하였다. "보라, 해마다 실로에서 여호와의 절기가 있으니, 실로는 벧엘 북쪽, 벧엘에서 세겜으로 올라가는 큰길 동쪽, 르보나 남쪽에 있다."
20 They commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, “ Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,And they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, Go and lie in wait in the vineyards,그들이 베냐민 자손에게 명하여 말하였다. "가서 포도원에 매복하여
21 and see, and behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come out of the vineyards, and each man catch his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.and see, and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in the dances, then come ye out of the vineyards, and catch you every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin.지켜보다가, 보라, 실로의 딸들이 춤을 추러 나오거든, 너희는 포도원에서 나와 각자 실로의 딸들 가운데서 자기 아내를 붙잡아 베냐민 땅으로 가라.
22 It shall be, when their fathers or their brothers come to complain to us, that we will say to them, ‘ Grant them graciously to us, because we didn’t take for each man his wife in battle, neither did you give them to them; otherwise you would now be guilty.’”And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come to complain unto us, that we will say unto them, Grant them graciously unto us, because we took not for each man of them his wife in battle, neither did ye give them unto them, else would ye now be guilty.그들의 아버지나 형제들이 우리에게 와서 항의하거든, 우리가 그들에게 이렇게 말하겠다. '우리를 보아 그들을 너그럽게 베풀어 다오. 우리가 전쟁에서 각 사람의 아내를 빼앗은 것도 아니요, 너희가 그들에게 준 것도 아니니, 만약 너희가 주었다면 이제 너희가 죄가 있었을 것이다.'"
23 The children of Benjamin did so, and took wives for themselves according to their number, of those who danced, whom they carried off. They went and returned to their inheritance, built the cities, and lived in them.And the children of Benjamin did so, and took them wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they carried off: and they went and returned unto their inheritance, and built the cities, and dwelt in them.베냐민 자손이 그대로 행하여, 춤추는 여자들 가운데서 자기들의 수효대로 붙잡아 아내로 데려갔다. 그리고 그들은 돌아가 자기 기업으로 가서 성읍들을 다시 짓고 거기에 살았다.
24 The children of Israel departed from there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they each went out from there to his own inheritance.And the children of Israel departed thence at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family, and they went out from thence every man to his inheritance.그때에 이스라엘 자손이 거기에서 떠나 각각 자기 지파와 자기 가족에게로 갔으니, 각 사람이 거기에서 나와 자기 기업으로 돌아갔다.
25 In those days there was no king in Israel. Everyone did that which was right in his own eyes.In those days there was no king in Israel: every man did that which was right in his own eyes.그 무렵에는 이스라엘에 왕이 없었으므로, 사람마다 자기 눈에 옳은 대로 행하였다.
