1 After the death of Joshua, the children of Israel asked of Yahweh, saying, “ Who should go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?”And it came to pass after the death of Joshua, that the children of Israel asked of Jehovah, saying, Who shall go up for us first against the Canaanites, to fight against them?여호수아가 죽은 뒤에, 이스라엘 자손이 여호와께 여쭈었다. "우리 가운데 누가 먼저 올라가서 가나안 사람과 싸워야 합니까?"
2 Yahweh said, “ Judah shall go up. Behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.”And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up: behold, I have delivered the land into his hand.여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "유다가 올라가야 한다. 보아라, 내가 이 땅을 그의 손에 넘겨주었다."
3 Judah said to Simeon his brother, “ Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with you into your lot.” So Simeon went with him.And Judah said unto Simeon his brother, Come up with me into my lot, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I likewise will go with thee into thy lot. So Simeon went with him.유다가 자기 형제 시므온에게 말했다. "나의 몫으로 정해진 땅으로 나와 함께 올라가서, 우리가 가나안 사람과 싸우자. 그러면 나도 너의 몫으로 정해진 땅에 너와 함께 가겠다." 그래서 시므온이 그와 함께 갔다.
4 Judah went up, and Yahweh delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand. They struck ten thousand men in Bezek.And Judah went up; and Jehovah delivered the Canaanites and the Perizzites into their hand: and they smote of them in Bezek ten thousand men.유다가 올라가니, 여호와께서 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 그들의 손에 넘겨주셨다. 그들은 베섹에서 만 명을 쳐 죽였다.
5 They found Adoni-Bezek in Bezek, and they fought against him. They struck the Canaanites and the Perizzites.And they found Adoni-bezek in Bezek; and they fought against him, and they smote the Canaanites and the Perizzites.그들은 베섹에서 아도니 베섹을 만나, 그와 싸워서 가나안 사람과 브리스 사람을 쳤다.
6 But Adoni-Bezek fled. They pursued him, caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his big toes.But Adoni-bezek fled; and they pursued after him, and caught him, and cut off his thumbs and his great toes.아도니 베섹이 도망쳤으나, 그들이 그를 뒤쫓아 붙잡아서 그의 엄지손가락과 엄지발가락을 잘랐다.
7 Adoni-Bezek said, “ Seventy kings, having their thumbs and their big toes cut off, scavenged under my table. As I have done, so God has done to me.” They brought him to Jerusalem, and he died there.And Adoni-bezek said, Threescore and ten kings, having their thumbs and their great toes cut off, gathered their food under my table: as I have done, so God hath requited me. 9 After that, the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites who lived in the hill country, and in the South, and in the lowland.And afterward the children of Judah went down to fight against the Canaanites that dwelt in the hill-country, and in the South, and in the lowland.그 뒤에 유다 자손은 산간 지방과 남방과 평지 저지대에 사는 가나안 사람과 싸우려고 내려갔다.
10 Judah went against the Canaanites who lived in Hebron. ( The name of Hebron before that was Kiriath Arba.) They struck Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron ( now the name of Hebron beforetime was Kiriath-arba ); and they smote Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.유다는 헤브론에 사는 가나안 사람을 치러 나아갔는데(헤브론은 전에 기럇 아르바라고 불렸다), 세새와 아히만과 달매를 쳤다.
11 From there he went against the inhabitants of Debir. ( The name of Debir before that was Kiriath Sepher.)And from thence he went against the inhabitants of Debir. ( Now the name of Debir beforetime was Kiriath-sepher.)거기서 그는 드빌 주민들을 치러 나아갔다(드빌은 전에 기럇 세벨이라고 불렸다).
12 Caleb said, “ I will give Achsah my daughter as wife to the man who strikes Kiriath Sepher, and takes it.”And Caleb said, He that smiteth Kiriath-sepher, and taketh it, to him will I give Achsah my daughter to wife.갈렙이 말했다. "기럇 세벨을 쳐서 점령하는 사람에게 내 딸 악사를 아내로 주겠다."

14 When she came, she got him to ask her father for a field. She got off her donkey; and Caleb said to her, “ What would you like?”And it came to pass, when she came unto him, that she moved him to ask of her father a field: and she alighted from off her ass; and Caleb said unto her, What wouldest thou?악사가 시집올 때에, 그가 옷니엘을 설득하여 자기 아버지에게 밭을 구하게 했다. 그가 나귀에서 내리니, 갈렙이 그에게 물었다. 15 She said to him, “ Give me a blessing; because you have set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water.” Then Caleb gave her the upper springs and the lower springs.And she said unto him, Give me a blessing; for that thou hast set me in the land of the South, give me also springs of water. And Caleb gave her the upper springs and the nether springs.그가 말했다. "제게 복을 주십시오. 아버지께서 저를 남방 메마른 땅에 두셨으니, 샘물도 주십시오." 그러자 갈렙이 그에게 윗샘과 아랫샘을 주었다.

18 Also Judah took Gaza with its border, and Ashkelon with its border, and Ekron with its border.Also Judah took Gaza with the border thereof, and Ashkelon with the border thereof, and Ekron with the border thereof.또한 유다는 가사와 그 경계 지역, 아스글론과 그 경계 지역, 에그론과 그 경계 지역을 점령했다.
19 Yahweh was with Judah, and drove out the inhabitants of the hill country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.And Jehovah was with Judah; and drove out the inhabitants of the hill-country; for he could not drive out the inhabitants of the valley, because they had chariots of iron.여호와께서 유다와 함께하셨으므로, 그가 산간 지방의 주민들을 쫓아냈다. 그러나 골짜기 평지의 주민들은 쫓아내지 못했는데, 그들에게 철 병거가 있었기 때문이다.

21 The children of Benjamin didn’t drive out the Jebusites who inhabited Jerusalem, but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem to this day.And the children of Benjamin did not drive out the Jebusites that inhabited Jerusalem; but the Jebusites dwell with the children of Benjamin in Jerusalem unto this day.베냐민 자손은 예루살렘에 사는 여부스 사람을 쫓아내지 못했다. 그래서 여부스 사람은 오늘날까지 예루살렘에서 베냐민 자손과 함께 살고 있다.
22 The house of Joseph also went up against Bethel, and Yahweh was with them.And the house of Joseph, they also went up against Beth-el; and Jehovah was with them.요셉 가문도 벧엘을 치러 올라갔는데, 여호와께서 그들과 함께하셨다.
23 The house of Joseph sent to spy out Bethel. ( The name of the city before that was Luz.)And the house of Joseph sent to spy out Beth-el. (Now the name of the city beforetime was Luz.)요셉 가문이 벧엘을 정탐하려고 사람들을 보냈다(그 성읍은 전에 루스라고 불렸다).
24 The watchers saw a man come out of the city, and they said to him, “ Please show us the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with you.”And the watchers saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Show us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will deal kindly with thee.정탐꾼들이 한 사람이 성읍에서 나오는 것을 보고 그에게 말했다. 26 The man went into the land of the Hittites, built a city, and called its name Luz, which is its name to this day.And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz, which is the name thereof unto this day.그 사람은 헷 사람의 땅으로 가서 한 성읍을 세우고 그 이름을 루스라고 불렀는데, 그것이 오늘날까지 그 성읍의 이름이다.
27 Manasseh didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shean and its towns, nor Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.And Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shean and its towns, nor of Taanach and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Ibleam and its towns, nor the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.므낫세는 벧스안과 그 마을들, 다아낙과 그 마을들, 돌과 그 마을들, 이블르암과 그 마을들, 므깃도와 그 마을들의 주민들을 쫓아내지 못했다. 그래서 가나안 사람이 그 땅에 계속 살았다.
28 When Israel had grown strong, they put the Canaanites to forced labor, and didn’t utterly drive them out.And it came to pass, when Israel was waxed strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.이스라엘이 강성해진 뒤에, 그들은 가나안 사람에게 강제 노역을 시켰으나 완전히 쫓아내지는 못했다.
29 Ephraim didn’t drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, but the Canaanites lived in Gezer among them.And Ephraim drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer; but the Canaanites dwelt in Gezer among them.에브라임은 게셀에 사는 가나안 사람을 쫓아내지 못해서, 가나안 사람이 게셀에서 그들 가운데 살았다.
30 Zebulun didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites lived among them, and became subject to forced labor.Zebulun drove not out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became subject to taskwork.스불론은 기드론 주민과 나할롤 주민을 쫓아내지 못했다. 그래서 가나안 사람이 그들 가운데 살았으나 강제 노역에 복종하게 되었다.
31 Asher didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;Asher drove not out the inhabitants of Acco, nor the inhabitants of Sidon, nor of Ahlab, nor of Achzib, nor of Helbah, nor of Aphik, nor of Rehob;아셀은 악고 주민과 시돈 주민, 알랍과 악십과 헬바와 아빅과 르홉의 주민을 쫓아내지 못했다.
32 but the Asherites lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land, for they didn’t drive them out.but the Asherites dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land; for they did not drive them out.그래서 아셀 사람은 그 땅에 사는 가나안 사람들 가운데 살았으니, 그들을 쫓아내지 못했기 때문이다.
33 Naphtali didn’t drive out the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth Anath; but he lived among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land. Nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth Shemesh and of Beth Anath became subject to forced labor.Naphtali drove not out the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh, nor the inhabitants of Beth-anath; but he dwelt among the Canaanites, the inhabitants of the land: nevertheless the inhabitants of Beth-shemesh and of Beth-anath became subject to taskwork.납달리는 벧세메스 주민과 벧아낫 주민을 쫓아내지 못했다. 그래서 그는 그 땅에 사는 가나안 사람들 가운데 살았다. 그러나 벧세메스와 벧아낫 주민은 강제 노역에 복종하게 되었다.

35 but the Amorites would dwell in Mount Heres, in Aijalon, and in Shaalbim.
