1 In those days there was no king in Israel. In those days the tribe of the Danites sought an inheritance to dwell in; for to that day, their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel.In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.그 무렵에는 이스라엘에 왕이 없었다. 또 그때에 단 지파는 자기들이 살아갈 기업을 찾고 있었는데, 그날까지도 이스라엘 지파들 가운데서 그들에게 돌아갈 기업이 아직 주어지지 않았기 때문이다.
2 The children of Dan sent five men of their family from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land and to search it. They said to them, “ Go, explore the land!” They came to the hill country of Ephraim, to the house of Micah, and lodged there.And the children of Dan sent of their family five men from their whole number, men of valor, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it; and they said unto them, Go, search the land. And they came to the hill-country of Ephraim, unto the house of Micah, and lodged there.단 자손은 자기 온 가문 가운데서 용맹한 사람 다섯을 소라와 에스다올에서 보내어, 그 땅을 정탐하고 살펴보게 하며 그들에게 말했다. "가서 그 땅을 탐지해 오너라." 그들은 에브라임 산지에 이르러 미가의 집에 와서 거기에 묵었다.
3 When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite; so they went over there and said to him, “ Who brought you here? What do you do in this place? What do you have here?”When they were by the house of Micah, they knew the voice of the young man the Levite; and they turned aside thither, and said unto him, Who brought thee hither? and what doest thou in this place? and what hast thou here?그들이 미가의 집 가까이에 있을 때, 그 젊은 레위 사람의 목소리를 알아듣고 그쪽으로 들러서 그에게 물었다. "누가 당신을 이리로 데려왔습니까? 이곳에서 무슨 일을 합니까? 여기서 무엇을 얻고 있습니까?"
4 He said to them, “ Thus and thus has Micah dealt with me, and he has hired me, and I have become his priest.”And he said unto them, Thus and thus hath Micah dealt with me, and he hath hired me, and I am become his priest.그가 그들에게 말했다. "미가가 나에게 이러이러하게 대해 주었고, 그가 나를 고용해서 나는 그의 제사장이 되었습니다."
5 They said to him, “ Please ask counsel of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.”And they said unto him, Ask counsel, we pray thee, of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.그들이 그에게 말했다. "부디 하나님께 여쭈어, 우리가 가는 이 길이 형통할지 우리가 알게 해 주십시오."
6 The priest said to them, “ Go in peace. Your way in which you go is before Yahweh.”And the priest said unto them, Go in peace: before Jehovah is your way wherein ye go.그 제사장이 그들에게 말했다. "평안히 가십시오. 당신들이 가는 길은 여호와 앞에 있습니다."
7 Then the five men departed and came to Laish and saw the people who were there, how they lived in safety, in the way of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was no one in the land possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with anyone else.Then the five men departed, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were therein, how they dwelt in security, after the manner of the Sidonians, quiet and secure; for there was none in the land, possessing authority, that might put them to shame in anything, and they were far from the Sidonians, and had no dealings with any man.그래서 그 다섯 사람이 떠나 라이스에 이르러, 그곳에 사는 백성을 보니, 그들은 시돈 사람들의 방식대로 평온하고 안전하게, 조용하고 마음 놓고 살고 있었다. 그 땅에는 권세를 가지고 어떤 일로든 그들을 괴롭게 할 자가 아무도 없었고, 그들은 시돈 사람들과 멀리 떨어져 있어 어떤 사람과도 교류가 없었다.
8 They came to their brothers at Zorah and Eshtaol; and their brothers asked them, “ What do you say?”And they came unto their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol: and their brethren said unto them, What say ye?그들이 소라와 에스다올에 있는 자기 형제들에게 돌아오니, 그 형제들이 그들에게 물었다. "너희는 어떻게 말하느냐?"
9 They said, “ Arise, and let’s go up against them; for we have seen the land, and behold, it is very good. Do you stand still? Don’t be slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land.And they said, Arise, and let us go up against them; for we have seen the land, and, behold, it is very good: and are ye still? be not slothful to go and to enter in to possess the land.그들이 대답했다. "일어나 그들을 치러 올라갑시다. 우리가 그 땅을 보았는데, 보십시오, 매우 좋습니다. 그런데 당신들은 가만히 있습니까? 그 땅을 차지하러 가서 들어가기를 게을리하지 마십시오.
10 When you go, you will come to an unsuspecting people, and the land is large; for God has given it into your hand, a place where there is no lack of anything that is in the earth.”When ye go, ye shall come unto a people secure, and the land is large; for God hath given it into your hand, a place where there is no want of anything that is in the earth.당신들이 가면 마음 놓고 사는 백성에게 이를 것이며, 그 땅은 넓습니다. 하나님께서 그곳을 당신들의 손에 주셨으니, 그곳은 세상에 있는 어떤 것도 부족함이 없는 곳입니다."
11 The family of the Danites set out from Zorah and Eshtaol with six hundred men armed with weapons of war.And there set forth from thence of the family of the Danites, out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol, six hundred men girt with weapons of war.그래서 단 지파의 가문에서 소라와 에스다올로부터 전쟁 무기로 무장한 사람 육백 명이 그곳을 떠나 나아갔다.
12 They went up and encamped in Kiriath Jearim in Judah. Therefore they call that place Mahaneh Dan to this day. Behold, it is behind Kiriath Jearim.And they went up, and encamped in Kiriath-jearim, in Judah: wherefore they called that place Mahaneh-dan, unto this day; behold, it is behind Kiriath-jearim.그들이 올라가 유다의 기럇여아림에 진을 쳤다. 그래서 사람들이 그곳을 오늘날까지 마하네 단이라 부른다. 보라, 그곳은 기럇여아림 뒤편에 있다.
13 They passed from there to the hill country of Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah.And they passed thence unto the hill-country of Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah.그들이 거기서 에브라임 산지로 지나가 미가의 집에 이르렀다.
14 Then the five men who went to spy out the country of Laish answered and said to their brothers, “ Do you know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a carved image, and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you have to do.”Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and said unto their brethren, Do ye know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a graven image, and a molten image? now therefore consider what ye have to do.그때 라이스 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 그 다섯 사람이 대답하여 자기 형제들에게 말했다. "이 집들 안에 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 우상과 부어 만든 우상이 있는 줄을 너희가 아느냐? 그러니 이제 너희가 어떻게 해야 할지 생각하라."
15 They went over there and came to the house of the young Levite man, even to the house of Micah, and asked him how he was doing.And they turned aside thither, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, even unto the house of Micah, and asked him of his welfare.그들이 그쪽으로 들러서, 그 젊은 레위 사람의 집 곧 미가의 집에 와서 그에게 안부를 물었다.
16 The six hundred men armed with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.And the six hundred men girt with their weapons of war, who were of the children of Dan, stood by the entrance of the gate.그동안 단 자손에 속한, 전쟁 무기로 무장한 육백 명은 그 문 어귀에 서 있었다.
17 The five men who went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the engraved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men armed with weapons of war.And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in thither, and took the graven image, and the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image: and the priest stood by the entrance of the gate with the six hundred men girt with weapons of war.그 땅을 정탐하러 갔던 다섯 사람이 올라가 그곳에 들어가서, 새긴 우상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어 만든 우상을 가져왔다. 그동안 그 제사장은 전쟁 무기로 무장한 육백 명과 함께 문 어귀에 서 있었다.
18 When these went into Micah’s house, and took the engraved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image, the priest said to them, “ What are you doing?”And when these went into Micah’s house, and fetched the graven image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image, the priest said unto them, What do ye?이들이 미가의 집에 들어가 새긴 우상과 에봇과 드라빔과 부어 만든 우상을 가져오니, 그 제사장이 그들에게 말했다. "당신들이 무슨 일을 하는 것입니까?"
19 They said to him, “ Hold your peace, put your hand on your mouth, and go with us. Be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be priest to the house of one man, or to be priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?”And they said unto him, Hold thy peace, lay thy hand upon thy mouth, and go with us, and be to us a father and a priest: is it better for thee to be priest unto the house of one man, or to be priest unto a tribe and a family in Israel?그들이 그에게 말했다. "조용히 하시오. 손으로 입을 막고 우리와 함께 가서 우리에게 아버지와 제사장이 되어 주시오. 당신이 한 사람의 집안의 제사장이 되는 것과, 이스라엘의 한 지파와 가문의 제사장이 되는 것 중 어느 것이 더 낫겠소?"
20 The priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, the teraphim, and the engraved image, and went with the people.And the priest’s heart was glad, and he took the ephod, and the teraphim, and the graven image, and went in the midst of the people.그 제사장이 마음에 기뻐하여, 에봇과 드라빔과 새긴 우상을 가지고 그 무리 가운데로 들어갔다.
21 So they turned and departed, and put the little ones, the livestock, and the goods before them.So they turned and departed, and put the little ones and the cattle and the goods before them.그래서 그들은 돌이켜 떠나면서, 어린아이들과 가축과 재물을 앞세웠다.
22 When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men who were in the houses near Micah’s house gathered together and overtook the children of Dan.When they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah’s house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan.그들이 미가의 집에서 꽤 멀어졌을 때, 미가의 집 가까이 있는 집들의 사람들이 함께 모여 단 자손을 따라잡았다.
23 As they called to the children of Dan, they turned their faces, and said to Micah, “ What ails you, that you come with such a company?”And they cried unto the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said unto Micah, What aileth thee, that thou comest with such a company?그들이 단 자손을 향해 소리쳤다. 그러자 단 자손이 얼굴을 돌이켜 미가에게 말했다. "무슨 일이기에 이렇게 무리를 거느리고 따라오느냐?"
24 He said, “ You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and have gone away! What more do I have? How can you ask me, ‘ What ails you?’”And he said, ye have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and are gone away, and what have I more? and how then say ye unto me, What aileth thee?그가 말했다. "당신들이 내가 만든 내 신들과 제사장까지 빼앗아 가 버렸으니, 내게 무엇이 더 남았소? 그러면서 어찌 내게 '무슨 일이냐'고 말할 수 있소?"
25 The children of Dan said to him, “Don’t let your voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall on you, and you lose your life, with the lives of your household.”And the children of Dan said unto him, Let not thy voice be heard among us, lest angry fellows fall upon you, and thou lose thy life, with the lives of thy household.단 자손이 그에게 말했다. "당신의 목소리가 우리 가운데서 들리지 않게 하시오. 그러지 않으면 성난 자들이 당신을 덮쳐서, 당신과 당신 집안 사람들의 목숨까지 잃게 될 것이오."
26 The children of Dan went their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.And the children of Dan went their way: and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back unto his house.그러고 나서 단 자손은 자기 갈 길로 갔다. 미가는 그들이 자기보다 강한 것을 보고, 돌이켜 자기 집으로 돌아갔다.
27 They took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and unsuspecting, and struck them with the edge of the sword; then they burned the city with fire.And they took that which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came unto Laish, unto a people quiet and secure, and smote them with the edge of the sword; and they burnt the city with fire.그들은 미가가 만든 것과 그가 두었던 제사장을 데리고 라이스로 가서, 조용하고 마음 놓고 사는 백성을 칼날로 치고 그 성읍을 불로 살랐다.
28 There was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no dealings with anyone else; and it was in the valley that lies by Beth Rehob. And they built the city, and dwelt therein.그곳은 시돈에서 멀리 떨어져 있고 어떤 사람과도 교류가 없었으므로, 그들을 구해 줄 자가 아무도 없었다. 그곳은 벧르홉 곁에 있는 골짜기에 있었다. 그들은 그 성읍을 다시 세우고 거기서 살았다.
29 They called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel; however the name of the city used to be Laish.And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born unto Israel: howbeit the name of the city was Laish at the first.그들은 그 성읍의 이름을, 이스라엘에게서 태어난 자기 조상 단의 이름을 따라 단이라 불렀다. 그러나 그 성읍의 처음 이름은 라이스였다.
30 The children of Dan set up for themselves the engraved image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.And the children of Dan set up for themselves the graven image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of the Danites until the day of the captivity of the land.단 자손이 자기들을 위하여 그 새긴 우상을 세웠다. 그리고 모세의 손자요 게르솜의 아들인 요나단과 그의 자손들이 그 땅이 사로잡혀 가는 날까지 단 지파의 제사장이 되었다.
31 So they set up for themselves Micah’s engraved image which he made, and it remained all the time that God’s house was in Shiloh.So they set them up Micah’s graven image which he made, all the time that the house of God was in Shiloh.그들은 미가가 만든 그 새긴 우상을 세워 두었는데, 하나님의 집이 실로에 있는 동안 내내 그러했다.
