1 The men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said to Jephthah, “ Why did you pass over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didn’t call us to go with you? We will burn your house around you with fire!”And the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.에브라임 사람들이 모여 북쪽으로 건너가서 입다에게 말했다. 2 Jephthah said to them, “ I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, you didn’t save me out of their hand.And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye saved me not out of their hand.입다가 그들에게 대답했다. 3 When I saw that you didn’t save me, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivered them into my hand. Why then have you come up to me today, to fight against me?”And when I saw that ye saved me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Jehovah delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?당신들이 나를 구해 주지 않는 것을 보고, 나는 내 목숨을 내 손에 걸고 암몬 자손에게로 건너갔고, 여호와께서 그들을 내 손에 넘겨주셨소. 그런데 어찌하여 당신들은 오늘 나에게 올라와 나와 싸우려 하시오?"
4 Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim. The men of Gilead struck Ephraim, because they said, “ You are fugitives of Ephraim, you Gileadites, in the middle of Ephraim, and in the middle of Manasseh.”Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim, ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, and in the midst of Manasseh.그러자 입다가 길르앗 사람들을 모두 모아 에브라임과 싸웠다. 에브라임 사람들이 "너희 길르앗 사람들은 에브라임 가운데서, 또 므낫세 가운데서 도망쳐 나온 자들이다"라고 말했기 때문에, 길르앗 사람들이 에브라임을 쳤다.
5 The Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. Whenever a fugitive of Ephraim said, “ Let me go over,” the men of Gilead said to him, “ Are you an Ephraimite?” If he said, “ No;”And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And it was so, that, when any of the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? 6 then they said to him, “ Now say ‘ Shibboleth;’” and he said “ Sibboleth”; for he couldn’t manage to pronounce it correctly, then they seized him and killed him at the fords of the Jordan. At that time, forty-two thousand of Ephraim fell.then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth; and he said Sibboleth; for he could not frame to pronounce it right: then they laid hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. 9 He had thirty sons. He sent his thirty daughters outside his clan, and he brought in thirty daughters from outside his clan for his sons. He judged Israel seven years.And he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons.
