1 Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor. He was the son of a prostitute. Gilead became the father of Jephthah.Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, and he was the son of a harlot: and Gilead begat Jephthah.길르앗 사람 입다는 큰 용사였는데, 그는 창녀의 아들이었다. 길르앗이 입다를 낳았다.
2 Gilead’s wife bore him sons. When his wife’s sons grew up, they drove Jephthah out and said to him, “ You will not inherit in our father’s house, for you are the son of another woman.”And Gilead’s wife bare him sons; and when his wife’s sons grew up, they drove out Jephthah, and said unto him, Thou shalt not inherit in our father’s house; for thou art the son of another woman.길르앗의 아내도 그에게 아들들을 낳았다. 그 아내의 아들들이 자라자 입다를 내쫓으며 말하였다. "너는 다른 여자의 아들이니, 우리 아버지 집에서 유산을 받지 못한다."
3 Then Jephthah fled from his brothers and lived in the land of Tob. Outlaws joined up with Jephthah, and they went out with him.Then Jephthah fled from his brethren, and dwelt in the land of Tob: and there were gathered vain fellows to Jephthah, and they went out with him.그래서 입다는 자기 형제들을 피해 도망쳐 돕 땅에서 살았다. 그곳에서 건달들이 입다에게 모여들어 그와 함께 다녔다.
4 After a while, the children of Ammon made war against Israel.And it came to pass after a while, that the children of Ammon made war against Israel.얼마 후에 암몬 자손이 이스라엘과 싸움을 일으켰다.
5 When the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to get Jephthah out of the land of Tob.And it was so, that, when the children of Ammon made war against Israel, the elders of Gilead went to fetch Jephthah out of the land of Tob;암몬 자손이 이스라엘과 싸우게 되자, 길르앗 장로들이 입다를 돕 땅에서 데려오려고 갔다.
6 They said to Jephthah, “ Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.”and they said unto Jephthah, Come and be our chief, that we may fight with the children of Ammon.그들이 입다에게 말하였다. "오셔서 우리의 지휘관이 되어 주시오. 그러면 우리가 암몬 자손과 싸울 수 있겠소."
7 Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “Didn’t you hate me, and drive me out of my father’s house? Why have you come to me now when you are in distress?”And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, Did not ye hate me, and drive me out of my father’s house? and why are ye come unto me now when ye are in distress?입다가 길르앗 장로들에게 말하였다. "당신들은 나를 미워하여 내 아버지 집에서 쫓아내지 않았소? 그런데 이제 환난을 당하니 어찌하여 나를 찾아오는 것이오?"
8 The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “ Therefore we have turned again to you now, that you may go with us and fight with the children of Ammon. You will be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.”And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Therefore are we turned again to thee now, that thou mayest go with us, and fight with the children of Ammon; and thou shalt be our head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.길르앗 장로들이 입다에게 말하였다. "그래서 지금 우리가 당신에게 다시 돌아온 것이오. 우리와 함께 가서 암몬 자손과 싸워 주시오. 그러면 당신이 길르앗 모든 주민의 우두머리가 될 것이오."
9 Jephthah said to the elders of Gilead, “ If you bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and Yahweh delivers them before me, will I be your head?”And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight with the children of Ammon, and Jehovah deliver them before me, shall I be your head?입다가 길르앗 장로들에게 말하였다. "만일 당신들이 나를 다시 데려가 암몬 자손과 싸우게 하고, 여호와께서 그들을 내 앞에 넘겨주시면, 정말로 내가 당신들의 우두머리가 되는 것이오?"
10 The elders of Gilead said to Jephthah, “ Yahweh will be witness between us. Surely we will do what you say.”And the elders of Gilead said unto Jephthah, Jehovah shall be witness between us; surely according to thy word so will we do.길르앗 장로들이 입다에게 말하였다. "여호와께서 우리 사이의 증인이 되십니다. 우리가 반드시 당신의 말대로 하겠소."
11 Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them. Jephthah spoke all his words before Yahweh in Mizpah.Then Jephthah went with the elders of Gilead, and the people made him head and chief over them: and Jephthah spake all his words before Jehovah in Mizpah.그래서 입다가 길르앗 장로들과 함께 가니, 백성이 그를 그들의 우두머리와 지휘관으로 삼았다. 입다는 미스바에서 여호와 앞에 자기의 모든 말을 아뢰었다.
12 Jephthah sent messengers to the king of the children of Ammon, saying, “ What do you have to do with me, that you have come to me to fight against my land?”And Jephthah sent messengers unto the king of the children of Ammon, saying, What hast thou to do with me, that thou art come unto me to fight against my land?입다가 암몬 자손의 왕에게 사신들을 보내어 말하였다. "당신이 나와 무슨 상관이 있어, 내 땅을 치러 나를 찾아왔소?"
13 The king of the children of Ammon answered the messengers of Jephthah, “ Because Israel took away my land when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and to the Jordan. Now therefore restore that territory again peaceably.”And the king of the children of Ammon answered unto the messengers of Jephthah, Because Israel took away my land, when he came up out of Egypt, from the Arnon even unto the Jabbok, and unto the Jordan: now therefore restore those lands again peaceably.암몬 자손의 왕이 입다의 사신들에게 대답하였다. "이스라엘이 이집트에서 올라올 때에 아르논에서 얍복과 요단에 이르기까지 내 땅을 빼앗았기 때문이다. 그러니 이제 그 땅을 평화롭게 돌려다오."
14 Jephthah sent messengers again to the king of the children of Ammon;And Jephthah sent messengers again unto the king of the children of Ammon;입다가 다시 암몬 자손의 왕에게 사신들을 보내어
15 and he said to him, “ Jephthah says: Israel didn’t take away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon;and he said unto him, Thus saith Jephthah: Israel took not away the land of Moab, nor the land of the children of Ammon;그에게 말하였다. "입다가 이렇게 말하오. 이스라엘은 모압 땅도, 암몬 자손의 땅도 빼앗지 않았소.
16 but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness to the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh,but when they came up from Egypt, and Israel went through the wilderness unto the Red Sea, and came to Kadesh;이스라엘은 이집트에서 올라올 때에 광야를 지나 홍해에 이르렀고, 가데스에 도착하였소.
17 then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘ Please let me pass through your land;’ but the king of Edom didn’t listen. In the same way, he sent to the king of Moab, but he refused; so Israel stayed in Kadesh.then Israel sent messengers unto the king of Edom, saying, Let me, I pray thee, pass through thy land; but the king of Edom hearkened not. And in like manner he sent unto the king of Moab; but he would not: and Israel abode in Kadesh.그때에 이스라엘이 에돔 왕에게 사신들을 보내어 '당신의 땅을 지나가게 해 주시오.' 하였으나 에돔 왕이 듣지 않았소. 같은 방식으로 모압 왕에게도 보냈으나 그도 허락하지 않았소. 그래서 이스라엘은 가데스에 머물렀소.
18 Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they didn’t come within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.Then they went through the wilderness, and went around the land of Edom, and the land of Moab, and came by the east side of the land of Moab, and they encamped on the other side of the Arnon; but they came not within the border of Moab, for the Arnon was the border of Moab.그 후 그들은 광야를 지나 에돔 땅과 모압 땅을 돌아서 모압 땅 동쪽 편으로 와서, 아르논 건너편에 진을 쳤소. 그러나 모압 경계 안으로는 들어가지 않았으니, 아르논이 모압의 경계였기 때문이오.
19 Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said to him, ‘ Please let us pass through your land to my place.’And Israel sent messengers unto Sihon king of the Amorites, the king of Heshbon; and Israel said unto him, Let us pass, we pray thee, through thy land unto my place.이스라엘이 아모리 사람의 왕 곧 헤스본 왕 시혼에게 사신들을 보내어 말하였소. '우리가 당신의 땅을 지나 우리 처소로 가게 해 주시오.'
20 But Sihon didn’t trust Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.But Sihon trusted not Israel to pass through his border; but Sihon gathered all his people together, and encamped in Jahaz, and fought against Israel.그러나 시혼은 이스라엘이 자기 경계를 지나가는 것을 신뢰하지 않았소. 시혼이 자기 백성을 다 모아 야하스에 진을 치고 이스라엘과 싸웠소.
21 Yahweh, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they struck them. So Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.And Jehovah, the God of Israel, delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country.이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 시혼과 그의 모든 백성을 이스라엘의 손에 넘겨주셨고, 그들이 그들을 쳤소. 그래서 이스라엘이 그 땅에 살던 아모리 사람의 온 땅을 차지하였소.
22 They possessed all the border of the Amorites, from the Arnon even to the Jabbok, and from the wilderness even to the Jordan.And they possessed all the border of the Amorites, from the Arnon even unto the Jabbok, and from the wilderness even unto the Jordan.그들이 아르논에서 얍복까지, 광야에서 요단까지 아모리 사람의 모든 경계를 차지하였소.
23 So now Yahweh, the God of Israel, has dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and should you possess them?So now Jehovah, the God of Israel, hath dispossessed the Amorites from before his people Israel, and shouldest thou possess them?그러니 이제 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 자기 백성 이스라엘 앞에서 아모리 사람을 쫓아내셨는데, 당신이 그 땅을 차지하겠다는 것이오?
24 Won’t you possess that which Chemosh your god gives you to possess? So whoever Yahweh our God has dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.Wilt not thou possess that which Chemosh thy god giveth thee to possess? So whomsoever Jehovah our God hath dispossessed from before us, them will we possess.당신의 신 그모스가 당신에게 주어 차지하게 한 것을 당신이 차지하지 않겠소? 그처럼 우리 하나님 여호와께서 우리 앞에서 쫓아내신 자들의 땅은 우리가 차지하겠소.
25 Now are you anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?And now art thou anything better than Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab? did he ever strive against Israel, or did he ever fight against them?이제 당신이 모압 왕 십볼의 아들 발락보다 무엇이 더 낫소? 그가 일찍이 이스라엘과 다툰 적이 있소, 아니면 그가 일찍이 이스라엘과 싸운 적이 있소?
26 Israel lived in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along the side of the Arnon for three hundred years! Why didn’t you recover them within that time?While Israel dwelt in Heshbon and its towns, and in Aroer and its towns, and in all the cities that are along by the side of the Arnon, three hundred years; wherefore did ye not recover them within that time?이스라엘이 헤스본과 그 마을들, 아로엘과 그 마을들, 그리고 아르논 가에 있는 모든 성읍에서 삼백 년을 살았는데, 어찌하여 당신들은 그동안에 그 땅을 되찾지 않았소?
27 Therefore I have not sinned against you, but you do me wrong to war against me. May Yahweh the Judge be judge today between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.”I therefore have not sinned against thee, but thou doest me wrong to war against me: Jehovah, the Judge, be judge this day between the children of Israel and the children of Ammon.그러므로 나는 당신에게 죄를 짓지 않았소. 오히려 당신이 나를 쳐서 싸움을 거니 나에게 잘못하는 것이오. 재판장이신 여호와께서 오늘 이스라엘 자손과 암몬 자손 사이에 판결해 주시기를 바라오."
28 However, the king of the children of Ammon didn’t listen to the words of Jephthah which he sent him.Howbeit the king of the children of Ammon hearkened not unto the words of Jephthah which he sent him.그러나 암몬 자손의 왕은 입다가 보낸 말을 듣지 않았다.
29 Then Yahweh’s Spirit came on Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpah of Gilead, and from Mizpah of Gilead he passed over to the children of Ammon.Then the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Jephthah, and he passed over Gilead and Manasseh, and passed over Mizpeh of Gilead, and from Mizpeh of Gilead he passed over unto the children of Ammon.그때에 여호와의 영이 입다에게 임하셨다. 그가 길르앗과 므낫세를 지나 길르앗의 미스베를 지났고, 길르앗의 미스베에서 암몬 자손에게로 나아갔다.
30 Jephthah vowed a vow to Yahweh, and said, “ If you will indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,And Jephthah vowed a vow unto Jehovah, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver the children of Ammon into my hand,입다가 여호와께 서원하여 말하였다. "만일 주께서 정녕 암몬 자손을 내 손에 넘겨주시면,
31 then it shall be, that whatever comes out of the doors of my house to meet me when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be Yahweh’s, and I will offer it up for a burnt offering.”then it shall be, that whatsoever cometh forth from the doors of my house to meet me, when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, it shall be Jehovah’s, and I will offer it up for a burnt-offering.내가 암몬 자손에게서 평안히 돌아올 때에 내 집 문에서 나와 나를 맞이하는 것은 무엇이든지 여호와의 것이 될 것이며, 내가 그것을 번제로 드리겠나이다."
32 So Jephthah passed over to the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Yahweh delivered them into his hand.So Jephthah passed over unto the children of Ammon to fight against them; and Jehovah delivered them into his hand.그래서 입다가 암몬 자손에게 나아가 그들과 싸웠고, 여호와께서 그들을 그의 손에 넘겨주셨다.
33 He struck them from Aroer until you come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and to Abelcheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.And he smote them from Aroer until thou come to Minnith, even twenty cities, and unto Abel-cheramim, with a very great slaughter. So the children of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel.그가 아로엘에서부터 민닛에 이르기까지 스무 성읍을, 또 아벨그라밈까지 쳐서 크게 무찔렀다. 그래서 암몬 자손이 이스라엘 자손 앞에 굴복하였다.
34 Jephthah came to Mizpah to his house; and behold, his daughter came out to meet him with tambourines and with dances. She was his only child. Besides her he had neither son nor daughter.And Jephthah came to Mizpah unto his house; and, behold, his daughter came out to meet him with timbrels and with dances: and she was his only child; besides her he had neither son nor daughter.입다가 미스바에 있는 자기 집으로 돌아오는데, 보라, 그의 딸이 소고를 치고 춤을 추며 그를 맞이하러 나왔다. 그 딸은 그의 외동이어서, 그에게는 그 딸 외에 아들도 딸도 없었다.
35 When he saw her, he tore his clothes, and said, “Alas, my daughter! You have brought me very low, and you are one of those who trouble me; for I have opened my mouth to Yahweh, and I can’t go back.”And it came to pass, when he saw her, that he rent his clothes, and said, Alas, my daughter! thou hast brought me very low, and thou art one of them that trouble me; for I have opened my mouth unto Jehovah, and I cannot go back.입다가 딸을 보고 자기 옷을 찢으며 말하였다. "아아, 내 딸아! 네가 나를 참담하게 하는구나. 너는 나를 괴롭게 하는 자가 되었구나. 내가 여호와께 입을 열어 약속하였으니 돌이킬 수 없다."
36 She said to him, “ My father, you have opened your mouth to Yahweh; do to me according to that which has proceeded out of your mouth, because Yahweh has taken vengeance for you on your enemies, even on the children of Ammon.”And she said unto him, My father, thou hast opened thy mouth unto Jehovah; do unto me according to that which hath proceeded out of thy mouth, forasmuch as Jehovah hath taken vengeance for thee on thine enemies, even on the children of Ammon.딸이 그에게 말하였다. "아버지여, 아버지께서 여호와께 입을 열어 약속하셨으니, 여호와께서 아버지를 위하여 아버지의 원수 곧 암몬 자손에게 원수를 갚아 주셨으므로, 아버지의 입에서 나온 그대로 저에게 행하소서."
37 Then she said to her father, “ Let this thing be done for me. Leave me alone two months, that I may depart and go down on the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.”And she said unto her father, Let this thing be done for me: let me alone two months, that I may depart and go down upon the mountains, and bewail my virginity, I and my companions.딸이 또 아버지에게 말하였다. "저에게 이 일을 허락해 주소서. 두 달 동안 저를 내버려 두시어, 제가 산으로 내려가 제 동무들과 함께 저의 처녀로 죽는 것을 슬퍼하게 해 주소서."
38 He said, “ Go.” He sent her away for two months; and she departed, she and her companions, and mourned her virginity on the mountains.And he said, Go. And he sent her away for two months: and she departed, she and her companions, and bewailed her virginity upon the mountains.아버지가 "가라." 하고 두 달 동안 딸을 보냈다. 딸이 동무들과 함께 떠나 산에서 자기의 처녀임을 슬퍼하였다.
39 At the end of two months, she returned to her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed. She was a virgin. It became a custom in IsraelAnd it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew not man. And it was a custom in Israel,두 달이 끝났을 때에 딸이 아버지에게 돌아오니, 아버지가 자기가 서원한 서원대로 딸에게 행하였다. 딸은 남자를 알지 못한 처녀였다. 이것이 이스라엘의 관습이 되어,
40 that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.that the daughters of Israel went yearly to celebrate the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.이스라엘의 딸들이 해마다 가서 길르앗 사람 입다의 딸을 위하여 나흘 동안 애도하게 되었다.
