1 Yahweh’s angel came up from Gilgal to Bochim. He said, “ I brought you out of Egypt, and have brought you to the land which I swore to give your fathers. I said, ‘ I will never break my covenant with you.And the angel of Jehovah came up from Gilgal to Bochim. And he said, I made you to go up out of Egypt, and have brought you unto the land which I sware unto your fathers; and I said, I will never break my covenant with you:여호와의 천사가 길갈에서 보김으로 올라와 이렇게 말했다. "내가 너희를 이집트에서 이끌어 올려, 너희 조상들에게 맹세한 그 땅으로 데려왔다. 내가 말하기를 '내가 너희와 맺은 언약을 결코 깨뜨리지 않겠다.
2 You shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land. You shall break down their altars.’ But you have not listened to my voice. Why have you done this?and ye shall make no covenant with the inhabitants of this land; ye shall break down their altars. But ye have not hearkened unto my voice: why have ye done this?너희는 이 땅에 사는 사람들과 어떤 언약도 맺지 말고, 그들의 제단을 헐어 버려라' 하였다. 그런데 너희가 내 목소리에 순종하지 않았으니, 어찌하여 이렇게 하였느냐?
3 Therefore I also said, ‘ I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be in your sides, and their gods will be a snare to you.’”Wherefore I also said, I will not drive them out from before you; but they shall be as thorns in your sides, and their gods shall be a snare unto you.그러므로 내가 또한 말한다. 내가 그들을 너희 앞에서 쫓아내지 않을 것이니, 그들이 너희 곁에 가시처럼 있을 것이요, 그들의 신들이 너희에게 올무가 될 것이다."
4 When Yahweh’s angel spoke these words to all the children of Israel, the people lifted up their voice and wept.And it came to pass, when the angel of Jehovah spake these words unto all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their voice, and wept.여호와의 천사가 이 말을 온 이스라엘 자손에게 전하자, 백성이 소리 높여 울었다.
5 They called the name of that place Bochim, and they sacrificed there to Yahweh.And they called the name of that place Bochim: and they sacrificed there unto Jehovah.그들은 그곳 이름을 보김이라 부르고, 거기서 여호와께 제사를 드렸다.
6 Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel each went to his inheritance to possess the land.Now when Joshua had sent the people away, the children of Israel went every man unto his inheritance to possess the land.여호수아가 백성을 돌려보내니, 이스라엘 자손은 저마다 자기 기업으로 가서 그 땅을 차지하였다.
7 The people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders who outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of Yahweh that he had worked for Israel.And the people served Jehovah all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that outlived Joshua, who had seen all the great work of Jehovah that he had wrought for Israel.백성은 여호수아가 살아 있는 동안, 그리고 여호수아보다 오래 산 장로들, 곧 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위해 행하신 그 모든 위대한 일을 본 장로들이 살아 있는 동안 여호와를 섬겼다.
8 Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Yahweh, died, being one hundred ten years old.And Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Jehovah, died, being a hundred and ten years old.여호와의 종 눈의 아들 여호수아가 백십 세에 죽었다.
9 They buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath Heres, in the hill country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-heres, in the hill-country of Ephraim, on the north of the mountain of Gaash.사람들은 그를 에브라임 산지 가아스 산 북쪽 딤낫 헤레스에 있는 그의 기업의 경계 안에 장사하였다.
10 After all that generation were gathered to their fathers, another generation arose after them who didn’t know Yahweh, nor the work which he had done for Israel.And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers: and there arose another generation after them, that knew not Jehovah, nor yet the work which he had wrought for Israel.그 세대도 모두 자기 조상들에게로 돌아가고, 그 뒤에 다른 세대가 일어났는데, 그들은 여호와를 알지 못하고 여호와께서 이스라엘을 위해 행하신 일도 알지 못하였다.
11 The children of Israel did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and served the Baals.And the children of Israel did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served the Baalim;이스라엘 자손이 여호와께서 보시기에 악한 일을 행하여 바알들을 섬겼다.
12 They abandoned Yahweh, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples who were around them, and bowed themselves down to them; and they provoked Yahweh to anger.and they forsook Jehovah, the God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the peoples that were round about them, and bowed themselves down unto them: and they provoked Jehovah to anger.그들은 자기 조상들을 이집트 땅에서 이끌어 내신 여호와, 그들 조상의 하나님을 버리고, 주위 민족들의 신들, 곧 다른 신들을 따라가 그것들에게 절하여 여호와의 분노를 일으켰다.
13 They abandoned Yahweh, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.And they forsook Jehovah, and served Baal and the Ashtaroth.그들이 여호와를 버리고 바알과 아스다롯을 섬겼다.
14 Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of raiders who plundered them. He sold them into the hands of their enemies all around, so that they could no longer stand before their enemies.And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hands of spoilers that despoiled them; and he sold them into the hands of their enemies round about, so that they could not any longer stand before their enemies.여호와께서 이스라엘에게 진노하셔서, 그들을 약탈하는 자들의 손에 넘기시니 그들이 노략을 당하였고, 사방의 원수들의 손에 그들을 파셨으므로 그들이 더 이상 원수들 앞에 설 수 없었다.
15 Wherever they went out, Yahweh’s hand was against them for evil, as Yahweh had spoken, and as Yahweh had sworn to them; and they were very distressed.Whithersoever they went out, the hand of Jehovah was against them for evil, as Jehovah had spoken, and as Jehovah had sworn unto them: and they were sore distressed.그들이 어디로 나가든지 여호와의 손이 그들을 치셔서 재앙을 내리셨으니, 이는 여호와께서 말씀하신 대로요 여호와께서 그들에게 맹세하신 대로였다. 그래서 그들이 심히 곤고하게 되었다.
16 Yahweh raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those who plundered them.And Jehovah raised up judges, who saved them out of the hand of those that despoiled them.여호와께서 사사들을 일으키셔서, 약탈하는 자들의 손에서 그들을 구원하셨다.
17 Yet they didn’t listen to their judges; for they prostituted themselves to other gods, and bowed themselves down to them. They quickly turned away from the way in which their fathers walked, obeying Yahweh’s commandments. They didn’t do so.And yet they hearkened not unto their judges; for they played the harlot after other gods, and bowed themselves down unto them: they turned aside quickly out of the way wherein their fathers walked, obeying the commandments of Jehovah; but they did not so.그러나 그들은 자기 사사들의 말도 듣지 않고 다른 신들을 따라 음행하며 그것들에게 절하였다. 그들은 여호와의 계명에 순종하며 걸었던 조상들의 길에서 빠르게 벗어나, 그렇게 행하지 않았다.
18 When Yahweh raised up judges for them, then Yahweh was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge; for it grieved Yahweh because of their groaning by reason of those who oppressed them and troubled them.And when Jehovah raised them up judges, then Jehovah was with the judge, and saved them out of the hand of their enemies all the days of the judge: for it repented Jehovah because of their groaning by reason of them that oppressed them and vexed them.여호와께서 그들을 위해 사사를 일으키실 때마다, 여호와께서 그 사사와 함께하셔서 그 사사가 사는 모든 날 동안 원수들의 손에서 그들을 구원하셨다. 이는 그들을 억압하고 괴롭히는 자들 때문에 그들이 신음하는 것을 여호와께서 불쌍히 여기셨기 때문이다.
19 But when the judge was dead, they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers in following other gods to serve them and to bow down to them. They didn’t cease what they were doing, or give up their stubborn ways.But it came to pass, when the judge was dead, that they turned back, and dealt more corruptly than their fathers, in following other gods to serve them, and to bow down unto them; they ceased not from their doings, nor from their stubborn way.그러나 그 사사가 죽으면, 그들은 돌이켜 다른 신들을 따라 섬기고 절하며 자기 조상들보다 더 부패하게 행하였다. 그들은 자기 행위와 완고한 길에서 떠나지 않았다.
20 Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel; and he said, “ Because this nation transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and has not listened to my voice,And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel; and he said, Because this nation have transgressed my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and have not hearkened unto my voice;여호와께서 이스라엘에게 진노하시며 말씀하셨다. "이 민족이 내가 그들 조상에게 명령한 내 언약을 어기고 내 목소리에 순종하지 않았으니,
21 I also will no longer drive out any of the nations that Joshua left when he died from before them;I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations that Joshua left when he died;나도 이제부터는 여호수아가 죽을 때에 남겨 둔 민족들 가운데 어느 하나도 그들 앞에서 쫓아내지 않겠다.
22 that by them I may test Israel, to see if they will keep Yahweh’s way to walk therein, as their fathers kept it, or not.”that by them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of Jehovah to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.이는 그들을 통해 이스라엘을 시험하여, 그들이 자기 조상들이 지킨 것처럼 여호와의 길을 지켜 그 길로 걸을지 않을지를 보려 함이다."
23 So Yahweh left those nations, without driving them out hastily. He didn’t deliver them into Joshua’s hand.So Jehovah left those nations, without driving them out hastily; neither delivered he them into the hand of Joshua.그리하여 여호와께서 그 민족들을 급히 쫓아내지 않고 남겨 두셨으며, 여호수아의 손에 그들을 넘기지도 않으셨다.
