2 The chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen who drew sword.And the chiefs of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword.온 백성의 지도자들, 곧 이스라엘 모든 지파의 우두머리들이 하나님의 백성의 총회에 나아왔으니, 칼을 빼는 보병이 사십만 명이었다.
3 ( Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpah.) The children of Israel said, “ Tell us, how did this wickedness happen?”( Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel were gone up to Mizpah.) And the children of Israel said, Tell us, how was this wickedness brought to pass?(베냐민 자손은 이스라엘 자손이 미스바로 올라간 것을 들었다.) 이스라엘 자손이 말하였다. "이 악한 일이 어떻게 일어났는지 우리에게 말해 보아라."
4 The Levite, the husband of the woman who was murdered, answered, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night.And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was murdered, answered and said, I came into Gibeah that belongeth to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to lodge.살해당한 여인의 남편인 그 레위 사람이 대답하였다. "내가 내 첩과 함께 베냐민에 속한 기브아에 들어가 묵으려 하였습니다.
5 The men of Gibeah rose against me, and surrounded the house by night. They intended to kill me and they raped my concubine, and she is dead.And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about me by night; me they thought to have slain, and my concubine they forced, and she is dead.그런데 기브아 사람들이 나를 치려고 일어나, 밤에 내가 있던 집을 에워쌌습니다. 그들은 나를 죽이려 하였고, 내 첩을 욕보여 그 여인이 죽었습니다.
6 I took my concubine and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel; for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel.그래서 내가 내 첩을 거두어 토막을 내어 이스라엘의 기업이 된 온 땅에 두루 보냈으니, 이는 그들이 이스라엘 가운데서 음란과 망령된 일을 저질렀기 때문입니다.
7 Behold, you children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.”Behold, ye children of Israel, all of you, give here your advice and counsel.보십시오, 이스라엘 자손 여러분, 여러분 모두가 여기서 의견과 방책을 내어 주십시오."
8 All the people arose as one man, saying, “ None of us will go to his tent, neither will any of us turn to his house.And all the people arose as one man, saying, We will not any of us go to his tent, neither will we any of us turn unto his house.모든 백성이 한 사람처럼 일어나 말하였다. "우리 가운데 아무도 자기 장막으로 가지 않을 것이며, 아무도 자기 집으로 돌아가지 않겠다.
9 But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;But now this is the thing which we will do to Gibeah: we will go up against it by lot;이제 우리가 기브아에 행할 일은 이러하다. 우리는 제비를 뽑아 그 성을 치러 올라가겠다.
10 and we will take ten men of one hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and one hundred of one thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand to get food for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that the men of Gibeah have done in Israel.”and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to fetch victuals for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the folly that they have wrought in Israel.또한 우리는 이스라엘 모든 지파에서 백 명 가운데 열 명을, 천 명 가운데 백 명을, 만 명 가운데 천 명을 뽑아 백성을 위해 양식을 마련하게 하겠다. 이는 그들이 베냐민의 기브아에 이르렀을 때, 그 성이 이스라엘 가운데서 저지른 모든 망령된 일에 따라 갚으려 함이다."
11 So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.이렇게 하여 이스라엘의 모든 사람이 한 사람처럼 똘똘 뭉쳐 그 성을 치려고 모였다.
12 The tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “ What wickedness is this that has happened among you?And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, What wickedness is this that is come to pass among you?이스라엘 지파들이 베냐민 온 지파에 사람을 보내어 말하였다. "너희 가운데서 일어난 이 악한 일이 무엇이냐?
13 Now therefore deliver up the men, the wicked fellows who are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death and put away evil from Israel.” But Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brothers, the children of Israel.Now therefore deliver up the men, the base fellows, that are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel. But Benjamin would not hearken to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel.그러니 이제 기브아에 있는 그 무뢰한 자들을 넘겨 다오. 우리가 그들을 죽여 이스라엘에서 악을 없애려 한다." 그러나 베냐민은 그들의 형제인 이스라엘 자손의 말을 들으려 하지 않았다.
14 The children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities unto Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel.베냐민 자손은 여러 성읍에서 기브아로 함께 모여, 이스라엘 자손과 싸우러 나가려 하였다.
15 The children of Benjamin were counted on that day out of the cities twenty-six thousand men who drew the sword, in addition to the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were counted seven hundred chosen men.And the children of Benjamin were numbered on that day out of the cities twenty and six thousand men that drew sword, besides the inhabitants of Gibeah, who were numbered seven hundred chosen men.그날 여러 성읍에서 나온 베냐민 자손 가운데 칼을 빼는 자가 이만 육천 명으로 헤아려졌고, 그 외에 기브아 주민 가운데서 뽑힌 정예 칠백 명이 있었다.
16 Among all these soldiers there were seven hundred chosen men who were left-handed. Every one of them could sling a stone at a hair and not miss.Among all this people there were seven hundred chosen men lefthanded; every one could sling stones at a hair-breadth, and not miss.이 모든 백성 가운데 왼손잡이 정예 칠백 명이 있었는데, 저마다 물매로 돌을 던져 머리카락 한 올도 빗나가지 않을 만큼 정확하였다.
17 The men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were counted four hundred thousand men who drew sword. All these were men of war.And the men of Israel, besides Benjamin, were numbered four hundred thousand men that drew sword: all these were men of war.베냐민을 제외한 이스라엘 사람들은 칼을 빼는 자가 사십만 명으로 헤아려졌으니, 이들은 모두 싸움에 익숙한 사람들이었다.
18 The children of Israel arose, went up to Bethel, and asked counsel of God. They asked, “ Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” Yahweh said, “ Judah first.”And the children of Israel arose, and went up to Beth-el, and asked counsel of God; and they said, Who shall go up for us first to battle against the children of Benjamin? And Jehovah said, Judah shall go up first.이스라엘 자손이 일어나 벧엘로 올라가 하나님께 여쭈었다. "우리 가운데 누가 먼저 올라가 베냐민 자손과 싸워야 합니까?" 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "유다가 먼저 올라가라."
19 The children of Israel rose up in the morning and encamped against Gibeah.And the children of Israel rose up in the morning, and encamped against Gibeah.이스라엘 자손이 아침에 일어나 기브아를 마주하여 진을 쳤다.
20 The men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.And the men of Israel went out to battle against Benjamin; and the men of Israel set the battle in array against them at Gibeah.이스라엘 사람들이 베냐민과 싸우러 나가, 기브아에서 그들을 향해 싸움의 진을 벌였다.
21 The children of Benjamin came out of Gibeah, and on that day destroyed twenty-two thousand of the Israelite men down to the ground.And the children of Benjamin came forth out of Gibeah, and destroyed down to the ground of the Israelites on that day twenty and two thousand men.베냐민 자손이 기브아에서 나와, 그날 이스라엘 사람 이만 이천 명을 쳐서 땅에 쓰러뜨렸다.
22 The people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.And the people, the men of Israel, encouraged themselves, and set the battle again in array in the place where they set themselves in array the first day.그 백성, 곧 이스라엘 사람들이 스스로 용기를 내어, 첫째 날에 진을 벌였던 그 자리에 다시 싸움의 진을 벌였다.
23 The children of Israel went up and wept before Yahweh until evening; and they asked of Yahweh, saying, “ Shall I again draw near to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” Yahweh said, “ Go up against him.”And the children of Israel went up and wept before Jehovah until even; and they asked of Jehovah, saying, Shall I again draw nigh to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother? And Jehovah said, Go up against him.이스라엘 자손이 올라가 저녁까지 여호와 앞에서 울며 여호와께 여쭈었다. "내가 다시 나아가 내 형제 베냐민 자손과 싸워야 합니까?" 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "그를 치러 올라가라."
24 The children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day.이스라엘 자손이 둘째 날에 베냐민 자손에게 가까이 나아갔다.
25 Benjamin went out against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men. All these drew the sword.And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and destroyed down to the ground of the children of Israel again eighteen thousand men; all these drew the sword.베냐민도 둘째 날에 기브아에서 그들을 향해 나아와, 이스라엘 자손 만 팔천 명을 다시 쳐서 땅에 쓰러뜨렸으니, 이들은 모두 칼을 빼는 자들이었다.
26 Then all the children of Israel and all the people went up, and came to Bethel, and wept, and sat there before Yahweh, and fasted that day until evening; then they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came unto Beth-el, and wept, and sat there before Jehovah, and fasted that day until even; and they offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings before Jehovah.그러자 모든 이스라엘 자손과 온 백성이 올라가 벧엘에 이르러, 그곳에서 여호와 앞에 앉아 울며 그날 저녁까지 금식하고, 여호와 앞에 번제와 화목제를 드렸다.
27 The children of Israel asked Yahweh ( for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,And the children of Israel asked of Jehovah ( for the ark of the covenant of God was there in those days,이스라엘 자손이 여호와께 여쭈었으니, 그 무렵에는 하나님의 언약궤가 그곳에 있었고,
28 and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days ), saying, “ Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” Yahweh said, “ Go up; for tomorrow I will deliver him into your hand.”and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days ), saying, Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease? And Jehovah said, Go up; for to-morrow I will deliver him into thy hand.아론의 손자요 엘르아살의 아들인 비느하스가 그 무렵 그 앞에 서 있었다. 그들이 여쭈었다. "내가 다시 나아가 내 형제 베냐민 자손과 싸워야 합니까, 아니면 그쳐야 합니까?" 여호와께서 말씀하셨다. "올라가라. 내일은 내가 그를 네 손에 넘겨주겠다."
29 Israel set ambushes all around Gibeah.And Israel set liers-in-wait against Gibeah round about.이스라엘이 기브아 사방에 복병을 두었다.
30 The children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and set themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times.이스라엘 자손이 셋째 날에 베냐민 자손을 치러 올라가, 다른 때와 같이 기브아를 마주하여 진을 벌였다.
31 The children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to strike and kill of the people as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to Bethel and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite and kill of the people, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goeth up to Beth-el, and the other to Gibeah, in the field, about thirty men of Israel.베냐민 자손이 그 백성을 향해 나오다가 성에서 멀리 유인되어, 다른 때와 같이 백성을 치고 죽이기 시작하였으니, 한 길은 벧엘로 올라가고 다른 길은 기브아로 가는 큰길과 들판에서 이스라엘 사람 삼십 명쯤을 죽였다.
32 The children of Benjamin said, “ They are struck down before us, as at the first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let’s flee, and draw them away from the city to the highways.”And the children of Benjamin said, They are smitten down before us, as at the first. But the children of Israel said, Let us flee, and draw them away from the city unto the highways.베냐민 자손이 말하였다. "그들이 처음처럼 우리 앞에서 쓰러진다." 그러나 이스라엘 자손은 말하였다. "우리가 달아나 그들을 성에서 큰길로 유인하자."
33 All the men of Israel rose up out of their place and set themselves in array at Baal Tamar. Then the ambushers of Israel broke out of their place, even out of Maareh Geba.And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and set themselves in array at Baal-tamar: and the liers-in-wait of Israel brake forth out of their place, even out of Maareh-geba.이스라엘의 모든 사람이 자기 자리에서 일어나 바알다말에서 싸움의 진을 벌였고, 이스라엘의 복병도 자기 자리, 곧 마아레게바에서 뛰쳐나왔다.
34 Ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel came over against Gibeah, and the battle was severe; but they didn’t know that disaster was close to them.And there came over against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was sore; but they knew not that evil was close upon them.온 이스라엘에서 뽑힌 정예 만 명이 기브아를 마주하여 이르니, 싸움이 격렬하였으나, 베냐민 사람들은 재앙이 자기들에게 가까이 닥친 줄을 알지 못하였다.
35 Yahweh struck Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty-five thousand one hundred men. All these drew the sword.And Jehovah smote Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of Benjamin that day twenty and five thousand and a hundred men: all these drew the sword.여호와께서 이스라엘 앞에서 베냐민을 치시니, 이스라엘 자손이 그날 베냐민 사람 이만 오천백 명을 쓰러뜨렸으니, 이들은 모두 칼을 빼는 자들이었다.
36 So the children of Benjamin saw that they were struck, for the men of Israel yielded to Benjamin because they trusted the ambushers whom they had set against Gibeah.So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten; for the men of Israel gave place to Benjamin, because they trusted unto the liers-in-wait whom they had set against Gibeah.이렇게 베냐민 자손은 자기들이 패한 것을 알았다. 이는 이스라엘 사람들이 기브아를 향해 둔 복병을 믿고서, 베냐민에게 자리를 내주었기 때문이다.
37 The ambushers hurried, and rushed on Gibeah; then the ambushers spread out, and struck all the city with the edge of the sword.And the liers-in-wait hasted, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers-in-wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword.복병이 서둘러 기브아로 돌격하여, 흩어져 나아가 그 온 성을 칼날로 쳤다.
38 Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the ambushers was that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.Now the appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers-in-wait was, that they should make a great cloud of smoke rise up out of the city.이스라엘 사람들과 복병 사이에 정한 신호는, 성에서 큰 연기 구름을 피워 올리는 것이었다.
39 The men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to strike and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, “ Surely they are struck down before us, as in the first battle.”And the men of Israel turned in the battle, and Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty persons; for they said, Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.이스라엘 사람들이 싸움 중에 돌아서니, 베냐민이 이스라엘 사람 삼십 명쯤을 치고 죽이기 시작하며 말하였다. "분명히 그들이 첫 싸움처럼 우리 앞에서 쓰러진다."
40 But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and behold, the whole city went up in smoke to the sky.But when the cloud began to arise up out of the city in a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and, behold, the whole of the city went up in smoke to heaven.그러나 그 연기 구름이 기둥처럼 성에서 솟아오르기 시작하니, 베냐민 사람들이 뒤를 돌아보았다. 보라, 그 온 성이 연기가 되어 하늘로 올라가고 있었다.
41 The men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that disaster had come on them.And the men of Israel turned, and the men of Benjamin were dismayed; for they saw that evil was come upon them.이스라엘 사람들이 돌아서니, 베냐민 사람들은 재앙이 자기들에게 닥친 것을 보고 당황하였다.
42 Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness, but the battle followed hard after them; and those who came out of the cities destroyed them in the middle of it.Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle followed hard after them; and they that came out of the cities destroyed them in the midst thereof.그래서 그들이 이스라엘 사람들 앞에서 등을 돌려 광야 길로 달아났으나, 싸움이 그들을 바짝 따라붙었고, 여러 성에서 나온 자들이 그들을 그 가운데서 무찔렀다.
43 They surrounded the Benjamites, chased them, and trod them down at their resting place, as far as near Gibeah toward the sunrise.They inclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and trod them down at their resting-place, as far as over against Gibeah toward the sunrising.그들이 베냐민 사람들을 에워싸고 뒤쫓아, 그들이 쉬는 곳에서부터 해 뜨는 쪽 기브아 맞은편까지 짓밟았다.
44 Eighteen thousand men of Benjamin fell; all these were men of valor.And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor.베냐민 가운데서 만 팔천 명이 쓰러졌으니, 이들은 모두 용맹한 사람들이었다.
45 They turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon. They gleaned five thousand men of them in the highways, and followed hard after them to Gidom, and struck two thousand men of them.And they turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon: and they gleaned of them in the highways five thousand men, and followed hard after them unto Gidom, and smote of them two thousand men.그들이 돌아서서 광야 쪽 림몬 바위로 달아나니, 이스라엘 사람들이 큰길에서 오천 명을 거두어 치고, 기돔까지 바짝 뒤쫓아 이천 명을 더 쳤다.
46 So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men who drew the sword. All these were men of valor.So that all who fell that day of Benjamin were twenty and five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valor.그리하여 그날 쓰러진 베냐민 사람은 칼을 빼는 자가 모두 이만 오천 명이었으니, 이들은 모두 용맹한 사람들이었다.
47 But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon, and stayed in the rock of Rimmon four months.But six hundred men turned and fled toward the wilderness unto the rock of Rimmon, and abode in the rock of Rimmon four months.그러나 육백 명은 돌아서서 광야 쪽 림몬 바위로 달아나, 림몬 바위에서 넉 달을 지냈다.
48 The men of Israel turned again on the children of Benjamin, and struck them with the edge of the sword — including the entire city, the livestock, and all that they found. Moreover they set all the cities which they found on fire.And the men of Israel turned again upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, both the entire city, and the cattle, and all that they found: moreover all the cities which they found they set on fire.이스라엘 사람들이 다시 베냐민 자손에게로 돌아와, 온 성과 가축과 그들이 발견한 모든 것을 칼날로 쳤고, 또한 그들이 발견한 모든 성에 불을 질렀다.
