1 But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted things; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took some of the devoted things. Therefore Yahweh’s anger burned against the children of Israel.But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the devoted thing; for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the devoted thing: and the anger of Jehovah was kindled against the children of Israel.그러나 이스라엘 자손이 바쳐진 물건과 관련하여 죄를 범하였다. 유다 지파에 속한 세라의 증손이요 삽디의 손자요 갈미의 아들인 아간이 바쳐진 물건 가운데 얼마를 가졌기 때문이다. 그래서 여호와의 진노가 이스라엘 자손을 향하여 타올랐다.
2 Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to them, saying, “ Go up and spy out the land.” The men went up and spied out Ai.And Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is beside Beth-aven, on the east side of Beth-el, and spake unto them, saying, Go up and spy out the land. And the men went up and spied out Ai.여호수아가 여리고에서 벧엘 동쪽, 벧아웬 곁에 있는 아이로 사람들을 보내며 그들에게 말하였다. "올라가서 그 땅을 정탐하라." 그래서 그 사람들이 올라가 아이를 정탐하였다.
3 They returned to Joshua, and said to him, “Don’t let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand men go up and strike Ai. Don’t make all the people to toil there, for there are only a few of them.”And they returned to Joshua, and said unto him, Let not all the people go up; but let about two or three thousand men go up and smite Ai; make not all the people to toil thither; for they are but few.그들이 여호수아에게 돌아와 그에게 말하였다. "모든 백성을 올라가게 하지 마십시오. 다만 이삼천 명쯤 올라가 아이를 치게 하십시오. 그곳 사람들은 수가 적으니 온 백성을 거기까지 수고하게 하지 마십시오."
4 So about three thousand men of the people went up there, and they fled before the men of Ai.So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai.그래서 백성 가운데 삼천 명쯤 그곳으로 올라갔으나, 그들은 아이 사람들 앞에서 도망쳤다.
5 The men of Ai struck about thirty-six men of them. They chased them from before the gate even to Shebarim, and struck them at the descent. The hearts of the people melted, and became like water.And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men; and they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them at the descent: and the hearts of the people melted, and became as water.아이 사람들이 그들 가운데 서른여섯 명쯤을 쳐 죽이고, 성문 앞에서부터 스바림까지 그들을 쫓아와 비탈에서 쳤다. 그러자 백성의 마음이 녹아 물처럼 되었다.
6 Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before Yahweh’s ark until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of Jehovah until the evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust upon their heads.여호수아가 자기 옷을 찢고 이스라엘의 장로들과 함께 저녁때까지 여호와의 궤 앞에서 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드렸으며, 그들은 머리에 티끌을 뒤집어썼다.
7 Joshua said, “Alas, Lord Yahweh, why have you brought this people over the Jordan at all, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? I wish that we had been content and lived beyond the Jordan!And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord Jehovah, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over the Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to cause us to perish? would that we had been content and dwelt beyond the Jordan!여호수아가 말하였다. "아, 주 여호와여, 어찌하여 이 백성을 요단강을 건너게 하셔서 우리를 아모리 사람의 손에 넘겨 멸망하게 하시려 하십니까? 우리가 만족하며 요단강 저편에 머물러 살았더라면 좋았을 것입니다.
8 Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after Israel has turned their backs before their enemies?Oh, Lord, what shall I say, after that Israel hath turned their backs before their enemies!주여, 이스라엘이 그 원수들 앞에서 등을 돌렸으니 제가 무슨 말을 하겠습니까?
9 For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. What will you do for your great name?”For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear of it, and will compass us round, and cut off our name from the earth: and what wilt thou do for thy great name?가나안 사람들과 그 땅의 모든 주민이 이 일을 듣고 우리를 둘러싸 우리의 이름을 땅에서 끊어 버릴 것입니다. 그러면 주께서는 주의 위대하신 이름을 위하여 어떻게 하시겠습니까?"
10 Yahweh said to Joshua, “ Get up! Why have you fallen on your face like that?And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore art thou thus fallen upon thy face?여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨다. "일어나라! 어찌하여 이렇게 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 있느냐?
11 Israel has sinned. Yes, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them. Yes, they have even taken some of the devoted things, and have also stolen, and also deceived. They have even put it among their own stuff.Israel hath sinned; yea, they have even transgressed my covenant which I commanded them: yea, they have even taken of the devoted thing, and have also stolen, and dissembled also; and they have even put it among their own stuff.이스라엘이 죄를 지었다. 그렇다. 그들은 내가 그들에게 명령한 나의 언약마저 어겼다. 그렇다. 그들은 바쳐진 물건 가운데 얼마를 가졌고, 또 훔쳤으며, 또 속였다. 그것을 자기들의 물건 가운데 두기까지 하였다.
12 Therefore the children of Israel can’t stand before their enemies. They turn their backs before their enemies, because they have become devoted for destruction. I will not be with you any more, unless you destroy the devoted things from among you.Therefore the children of Israel cannot stand before their enemies; they turn their backs before their enemies, because they are become accursed: I will not be with you any more, except ye destroy the devoted thing from among you.그러므로 이스라엘 자손이 그 원수들 앞에 설 수 없으며, 그 원수들 앞에서 등을 돌리게 되었다. 그들이 멸망에 바쳐진 것이 되었기 때문이다. 너희가 너희 가운데서 바쳐진 물건을 없애 버리지 않으면, 내가 더 이상 너희와 함께하지 않을 것이다.
13 Get up! Sanctify the people, and say, ‘ Sanctify yourselves for tomorrow, for Yahweh, the God of Israel, says, “ There is a devoted thing among you, Israel. You cannot stand before your enemies until you take away the devoted thing from among you.”Up, sanctify the people, and say, Sanctify yourselves against to-morrow: for thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, There is a devoted thing in the midst of thee, O Israel; thou canst not stand before thine enemies, until ye take away the devoted thing from among you.일어나라! 백성을 거룩하게 하고 말하라. '내일을 위하여 너희 자신을 거룩하게 하라. 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 이스라엘아, 너희 가운데 바쳐진 물건이 있다. 너희가 그 바쳐진 물건을 너희 가운데서 없애 버리기 전에는 너희가 너희 원수들 앞에 설 수 없다.
14 In the morning therefore you shall be brought near by your tribes. It shall be that the tribe which Yahweh selects shall come near by families. The family which Yahweh selects shall come near by households. The household which Yahweh selects shall come near man by man.In the morning therefore ye shall be brought near by your tribes: and it shall be, that the tribe which Jehovah taketh shall come near by families; and the family which Jehovah shall take shall come near by households; and the household which Jehovah shall take shall come near man by man.그러므로 아침에 너희는 지파별로 가까이 나아오라. 여호와께서 택하시는 지파는 가족별로 가까이 나아오고, 여호와께서 택하시는 가족은 집안별로 가까이 나아오며, 여호와께서 택하시는 집안은 한 사람씩 가까이 나아오라.
15 It shall be, that he who is taken with the devoted thing shall be burned with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed Yahweh’s covenant, and because he has done a disgraceful thing in Israel.’”And it shall be, that he that is taken with the devoted thing shall be burnt with fire, he and all that he hath; because he hath transgressed the covenant of Jehovah, and because he hath wrought folly in Israel.바쳐진 물건을 가진 자로 뽑힌 자는 그와 그에게 속한 모든 것이 불에 태워질 것이다. 이는 그가 여호와의 언약을 어겼고, 이스라엘 가운데서 부끄러운 일을 저질렀기 때문이다.'"
16 So Joshua rose up early in the morning and brought Israel near by their tribes. The tribe of Judah was selected.So Joshua rose up early in the morning, and brought Israel near by their tribes; and the tribe of Judah was taken:그래서 여호수아가 아침 일찍 일어나 이스라엘을 지파별로 가까이 나오게 하니, 유다 지파가 뽑혔다.
17 He brought near the family of Judah, and he selected the family of the Zerahites. He brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man, and Zabdi was selected.and he brought near the family of Judah; and he took the family of the Zerahites: and he brought near the family of the Zerahites man by man; and Zabdi was taken:그가 유다의 가족들을 가까이 나오게 하니 세라 가족이 뽑혔고, 세라 가족을 한 사람씩 가까이 나오게 하니 삽디가 뽑혔다.
18 He brought near his household man by man, and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was selected.and he brought near his household man by man; and Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, was taken.그가 삽디의 집안을 한 사람씩 가까이 나오게 하니, 유다 지파에 속한 세라의 증손이요 삽디의 손자요 갈미의 아들인 아간이 뽑혔다.
19 Joshua said to Achan, “ My son, please give glory to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and make confession to him. Tell me now what you have done! Don’t hide it from me!”And Joshua said unto Achan, My son, give, I pray thee, glory to Jehovah, the God of Israel, and make confession unto him; and tell me now what thou hast done; hide it not from me.여호수아가 아간에게 말하였다. "내 아들아, 부디 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께 영광을 돌리고 그분께 자백하여라. 이제 네가 한 일을 내게 말하여라. 내게 숨기지 말아라!"
20 Achan answered Joshua, and said, “ I have truly sinned against Yahweh, the God of Israel, and this is what I have done.And Achan answered Joshua, and said, Of a truth I have sinned against Jehovah, the God of Israel, and thus and thus have I done:아간이 여호수아에게 대답하여 말하였다. "참으로 제가 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와께 죄를 지었습니다. 제가 한 일은 이러합니다.
21 When I saw among the plunder a beautiful Babylonian robe, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold weighing fifty shekels, then I coveted them and took them. Behold, they are hidden in the ground in the middle of my tent, with the silver under it.”when I saw among the spoil a goodly Babylonish mantle, and two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold of fifty shekels weight, then I coveted them, and took them; and, behold, they are hid in the earth in the midst of my tent, and the silver under it.제가 노략물 가운데 아름다운 바벨론 외투 한 벌과 은 이백 세겔과 무게가 오십 세겔 되는 금덩이 하나를 보고 그것들을 탐내어 가졌습니다. 보십시오, 그것들이 제 장막 가운데 땅속에 감추어져 있고, 은은 그 밑에 있습니다."
22 So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent. Behold, it was hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran unto the tent; and, behold, it was hid in his tent, and the silver under it.그래서 여호수아가 심부름꾼들을 보내니 그들이 장막으로 달려갔다. 보라, 그것이 그의 장막 안에 감추어져 있었고, 은은 그 밑에 있었다.
23 They took them from the middle of the tent, and brought them to Joshua and to all the children of Israel. They laid them down before Yahweh.And they took them from the midst of the tent, and brought them unto Joshua, and unto all the children of Israel; and they laid them down before Jehovah.그들이 그것들을 장막 가운데서 꺼내어 여호수아와 모든 이스라엘 자손에게 가져왔고, 여호와 앞에 그것들을 내려놓았다.
24 Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, the silver, the robe, the wedge of gold, his sons, his daughters, his cattle, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent, and all that he had; and they brought them up to the valley of Achor.And Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the son of Zerah, and the silver, and the mantle, and the wedge of gold, and his sons, and his daughters, and his oxen, and his asses, and his sheep, and his tent, and all that he had: and they brought them up unto the valley of Achor.여호수아가 온 이스라엘과 함께 세라의 아들 아간과 은과 외투와 금덩이와 그의 아들들과 딸들과 그의 소들과 나귀들과 양들과 그의 장막과 그에게 속한 모든 것을 끌고 아골 골짜기로 올라갔다.
25 Joshua said, “ Why have you troubled us? Yahweh will trouble you today.” All Israel stoned him with stones, and they burned them with fire and stoned them with stones.And Joshua said, Why hast thou troubled us? Jehovah shall trouble thee this day. And all Israel stoned him with stones; and they burned them with fire, and stoned them with stones.여호수아가 말하였다. "어찌하여 네가 우리를 괴롭게 하였느냐? 여호와께서 오늘 너를 괴롭게 하실 것이다." 온 이스라엘이 그를 돌로 쳤으며, 그들을 불로 태우고 돌로 쳤다.
26 They raised over him a great heap of stones that remains to this day. Yahweh turned from the fierceness of his anger. Therefore the name of that place was called “ The valley of Achor” to this day.And they raised over him a great heap of stones, unto this day; and Jehovah turned from the fierceness of his anger. Wherefore the name of that place was called, The valley of Achor, unto this day.그들이 그 위에 큰 돌무더기를 쌓았는데, 그것이 오늘까지 남아 있다. 여호와께서 그 맹렬한 진노를 거두셨다. 그러므로 그곳의 이름을 오늘까지 "아골 골짜기"라 부른다.
