1 When all the kings of the Amorites, who were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, who were by the sea, heard how Yahweh had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, their heart melted, and there was no more spirit in them, because of the children of Israel.And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.요단 강 서편에 있던 아모리 사람의 모든 왕과 바닷가에 있던 가나안 사람의 모든 왕이, 여호와께서 이스라엘 자손 앞에서 요단 강 물을 마르게 하셔서 그들이 다 건너게 하셨다는 소식을 들었습니다. 그러자 그들의 마음이 녹아내렸고, 이스라엘 자손 때문에 그들 속에 다시는 기운이 남아 있지 않았습니다.
2 At that time, Yahweh said to Joshua, “ Make flint knives, and circumcise again the sons of Israel the second time.”At that time Jehovah said unto Joshua, Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time.그때에 여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨습니다. "부싯돌로 칼을 만들어 이스라엘 자손에게 다시 두 번째로 할례를 행하여라."
3 Joshua made himself flint knives, and circumcised the sons of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.And Joshua made him knives of flint, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins.여호수아가 부싯돌로 칼을 만들어 할례산에서 이스라엘 자손에게 할례를 행하였습니다.
4 This is the reason Joshua circumcised them: all the people who came out of Egypt, who were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness along the way, after they came out of Egypt.And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt.여호수아가 할례를 행한 까닭은 이러합니다. 이집트에서 나온 모든 백성 가운데 남자, 곧 싸울 수 있는 모든 사람은 이집트를 나온 뒤에 길에서, 광야에서 죽었습니다.
5 For all the people who came out were circumcised; but all the people who were born in the wilderness along the way as they came out of Egypt had not been circumcised.For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, they had not circumcised.나온 백성은 모두 할례를 받은 사람들이었으나, 이집트를 나온 뒤 길에서 광야에서 태어난 백성은 아무도 할례를 받지 못하였습니다.
6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness until all the nation, even the men of war who came out of Egypt, were consumed, because they didn’t listen to Yahweh’s voice. Yahweh swore to them that he wouldn’t let them see the land which Yahweh swore to their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah: unto whom Jehovah sware that he would not let them see the land which Jehovah sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey.이스라엘 자손이 사십 년 동안 광야를 걷는 동안, 이집트에서 나온 그 온 백성 곧 싸울 수 있는 사람들이 다 죽기까지 그러하였습니다. 이는 그들이 여호와의 음성에 순종하지 않았기 때문입니다. 여호와께서는 그들의 조상에게 우리에게 주겠다고 맹세하신 땅, 곧 젖과 꿀이 흐르는 땅을 그들이 보지 못하리라고 맹세하셨습니다.
7 Their children, whom he raised up in their place, were circumcised by Joshua, for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them on the way.And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them did Joshua circumcise: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way.여호와께서 그들을 대신하여 일으키신 그들의 자녀들에게 여호수아가 할례를 행하였습니다. 이는 그들이 길에서 할례를 받지 못하여 할례 받지 않은 자들이었기 때문입니다.
8 When they were done circumcising the whole nation, they stayed in their places in the camp until they were healed.And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the nation, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole.온 백성에게 할례 행하기를 마치자, 그들은 나을 때까지 진영의 자기 자리에 머물러 있었습니다.
9 Yahweh said to Joshua, “ Today I have rolled away the reproach of Egypt from you.” Therefore the name of that place was called Gilgal to this day.And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.여호와께서 여호수아에게 말씀하셨습니다. "오늘 내가 이집트의 수치를 너희에게서 굴러가게 하였다." 그래서 그곳의 이름을 길갈이라 불렀으며, 오늘날까지 그러합니다.
10 The children of Israel encamped in Gilgal. They kept the Passover on the fourteenth day of the month at evening in the plains of Jericho.And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho.이스라엘 자손이 길갈에 진을 쳤습니다. 그들은 여리고 평야에서 그달 십사일 저녁에 유월절을 지켰습니다.
11 They ate unleavened cakes and parched grain of the produce of the land on the next day after the Passover, in the same day.And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day.유월절 다음 날에 그들은 그 땅의 소출로 만든 누룩 없는 빵과 볶은 곡식을 바로 그날에 먹었습니다.
12 The manna ceased on the next day, after they had eaten of the produce of the land. The children of Israel didn’t have manna any more, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.그들이 그 땅의 소출을 먹은 다음 날에 만나가 그쳤습니다. 이스라엘 자손에게 다시는 만나가 없었고, 그해에 그들은 가나안 땅의 열매를 먹었습니다.
13 When Joshua was by Jericho, he lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, a man stood in front of him with his sword drawn in his hand. Joshua went to him and said to him, “ Are you for us, or for our enemies?”And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?여호수아가 여리고 가까이에 있을 때에, 눈을 들어 보니 한 사람이 칼을 빼어 손에 들고 그 앞에 서 있었습니다. 여호수아가 그에게 다가가 물었습니다. "너는 우리 편이냐, 우리 대적의 편이냐?"
14 He said, “ No; but I have come now as commander of Yahweh’s army.” Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and worshiped, and asked him, “ What does my lord say to his servant?”And he said, Nay; but as prince of the host of Jehovah am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?그가 대답하였습니다. "아니다. 나는 이제 여호와의 군대 사령관으로 왔다." 여호수아가 얼굴을 땅에 대고 엎드려 경배하며 그에게 말하였습니다. "내 주께서 종에게 무엇을 말씀하시려 하십니까?"
15 The prince of Yahweh’s army said to Joshua, “ Take off your sandals, for the place on which you stand is holy.” Joshua did so.And the prince of Jehovah’s host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.여호와의 군대 사령관이 여호수아에게 말하였습니다. "네 발에서 신을 벗어라. 네가 선 곳은 거룩하다." 여호수아가 그대로 하였습니다.
