1 Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. Jehu wrote letters and sent them to Samaria, to the rulers of Jezreel, even the elders, and to those who brought up Ahab’s sons, saying,Now Ahab had seventy sons in Samaria. And Jehu wrote letters, and sent to Samaria, unto the rulers of Jezreel, even the elders, and unto them that brought up the sons of Ahab, saying,아합에게는 사마리아에 일흔 명의 아들이 있었다. 예후가 편지를 써서 사마리아로 보냈는데, 이스르엘의 관리들과 장로들과 아합의 아들들을 길러 온 사람들에게 이렇게 전하였다.
2 “ Now as soon as this letter comes to you, since your master’s sons are with you, and you have chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and armor,And now as soon as this letter cometh to you, seeing your master’s sons are with you, and there are with you chariots and horses, a fortified city also, and armor;"이 편지가 너희에게 닿는 즉시, 너희에게 너희 주인의 아들들이 있고, 또 너희에게는 병거와 말과 견고한 성과 무기가 있으니,
3 select the best and fittest of your master’s sons, set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.”look ye out the best and meetest of your master’s sons, and set him on his father’s throne, and fight for your master’s house.너희 주인의 아들들 가운데 가장 낫고 적합한 자를 골라 그 아버지의 왕좌에 앉히고, 너희 주인의 집안을 위하여 싸우라."
4 But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, “ Behold, the two kings didn’t stand before him! How then shall we stand?”But they were exceedingly afraid, and said, Behold, the two kings stood not before him: how then shall we stand?그러나 그들은 몹시 두려워하며 말하였다. "보라, 두 왕도 그 앞에서 버티지 못하였는데, 우리가 어찌 버티겠는가?"
5 He who was over the household, and he who was over the city, the elders also, and those who raised the children, sent to Jehu, saying, “ We are your servants, and will do all that you ask us. We will not make any man king. You do that which is good in your eyes.”And he that was over the household, and he that was over the city, the elders also, and they that brought up the children, sent to Jehu, saying, We are thy servants, and will do all that thou shalt bid us; we will not make any man king: do thou that which is good in thine eyes.그래서 왕궁을 맡은 자와 성읍을 맡은 자와 장로들과 아이들을 길러 온 자들이 예후에게 사람을 보내어 말하였다. "우리는 당신의 종입니다. 당신이 명하시는 것은 무엇이든 다 행하겠습니다. 우리는 아무도 왕으로 세우지 않겠으니, 당신께서 보시기에 좋은 대로 하십시오."
6 Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, “ If you are on my side, and if you will listen to my voice, take the heads of the men who are your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by tomorrow this time.” Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up.Then he wrote a letter the second time to them, saying, If ye be on my side, and if ye will hearken unto my voice, take ye the heads of the men your master’s sons, and come to me to Jezreel by to-morrow this time. Now the king’s sons, being seventy persons, were with the great men of the city, who brought them up.그러자 예후가 그들에게 두 번째 편지를 써서 말하였다. "만일 너희가 내 편이고 내 목소리에 순종하겠거든, 너희 주인의 아들들 곧 그 사람들의 머리를 가지고 내일 이맘때에 이스르엘로 내게로 오라." 그때 왕의 아들들 일흔 명은 그들을 길러 온 성읍의 귀족들과 함께 있었다.
7 When the letter came to them, they took the king’s sons and killed them, even seventy people, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them to him to Jezreel.And it came to pass, when the letter came to them, that they took the king’s sons, and slew them, even seventy persons, and put their heads in baskets, and sent them unto him to Jezreel.편지가 그들에게 이르자, 그들은 왕의 아들들을 잡아 일흔 명을 모두 죽이고, 그 머리들을 광주리에 담아 이스르엘에 있는 예후에게로 보냈다.
8 A messenger came and told him, “ They have brought the heads of the king’s sons.” He said, “ Lay them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning.”And there came a messenger, and told him, saying, They have brought the heads of the king’s sons. And he said, Lay ye them in two heaps at the entrance of the gate until the morning.한 전령이 와서 그에게 알렸다. "사람들이 왕의 아들들의 머리를 가져왔습니다." 예후가 말하였다. "그것들을 성문 어귀에 두 무더기로 쌓아 두고 아침까지 두라."
9 In the morning, he went out and stood, and said to all the people, “ You are righteous. Behold, I conspired against my master and killed him, but who killed all these?And it came to pass in the morning, that he went out, and stood, and said to all the people, Ye are righteous: behold, I conspired against my master, and slew him; but who smote all these?아침이 되자 그가 나가 서서 모든 백성에게 말하였다. "너희는 의롭다. 보라, 나는 내 주인을 거슬러 음모를 꾸미고 그를 죽였다. 그러나 이 모든 사람을 친 자는 누구냐?
10 Know now that nothing will fall to the earth of Yahweh’s word, which Yahweh spoke concerning Ahab’s house. For Yahweh has done that which he spoke by his servant Elijah.”Know now that there shall fall unto the earth nothing of the word of Jehovah, which Jehovah spake concerning the house of Ahab: for Jehovah hath done that which he spake by his servant Elijah.그러므로 이제 알라. 여호와께서 아합의 집에 관하여 하신 말씀은 하나도 땅에 떨어지지 않을 것이다. 여호와께서 그의 종 엘리야를 통하여 하신 말씀을 이루셨기 때문이다."
11 So Jehu struck all that remained of Ahab’s house in Jezreel, with all his great men, his familiar friends, and his priests, until he left him no one remaining.So Jehu smote all that remained of the house of Ahab in Jezreel, and all his great men, and his familiar friends, and his priests, until he left him none remaining.그리하여 예후는 이스르엘에 남아 있던 아합의 집안의 모든 사람을, 그의 귀족들과 가까운 친구들과 제사장들까지 다 쳐서, 그에게 속한 자를 하나도 남기지 않았다.
12 He arose and departed, and went to Samaria. As he was at the shearing house of the shepherds on the way,And he arose and departed, and went to Samaria. And as he was at the shearing-house of the shepherds in the way,그가 일어나 떠나 사마리아로 갔다. 도중에 목자들의 양털 깎는 집에 이르렀을 때,
13 Jehu met with the brothers of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, “ Who are you?” They answered, “ We are the brothers of Ahaziah. We are going down to greet the children of the king and the children of the queen.”Jehu met with the brethren of Ahaziah king of Judah, and said, Who are ye? And they answered, We are the brethren of Ahaziah: and we go down to salute the children of the king and the children of the queen.예후가 유다 왕 아하시야의 형제들을 만나 물었다. "너희는 누구냐?" 그들이 대답하였다. "우리는 아하시야의 형제들인데, 왕의 자녀들과 왕후의 자녀들에게 문안하러 내려가는 길입니다."
14 He said, “ Take them alive!” They took them alive, and killed them at the pit of the shearing house, even forty-two men. He didn’t leave any of them.And he said, Take them alive. And they took them alive, and slew them at the pit of the shearing-house, even two and forty men; neither left he any of them.예후가 말하였다. "저들을 산 채로 잡으라." 사람들이 그들을 산 채로 잡아 양털 깎는 집의 구덩이에서 죽였는데, 마흔두 명이었다. 그는 그들 가운데 하나도 남기지 않았다.
15 When he had departed from there, he met Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him. He greeted him, and said to him, “ Is your heart right, as my heart is with your heart?” Jehonadab answered, “ It is.” “ If it is, give me your hand.” He gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.And when he was departed thence, he lighted on Jehonadab the son of Rechab coming to meet him; and he saluted him, and said to him, Is thy heart right, as my heart is with thy heart? And Jehonadab answered, It is. If it be, give me thy hand. And he gave him his hand; and he took him up to him into the chariot.예후가 거기서 떠나가다가 자기를 맞으러 오는 레갑의 아들 여호나답을 만났다. 예후가 그에게 인사하며 말하였다. "내 마음이 그대의 마음과 함께하듯, 그대의 마음도 바르오?" 여호나답이 대답하였다. "그렇습니다." "그러하거든 그대의 손을 내미시오." 그가 손을 내밀자 예후가 그를 끌어 올려 자기 곁의 병거에 태웠다.
16 He said, “ Come with me, and see my zeal for Yahweh.” So they made him ride in his chariot.And he said, Come with me, and see my zeal for Jehovah. So they made him ride in his chariot.예후가 말하였다. "나와 함께 가서 여호와를 향한 나의 열심을 보시오." 그리하여 사람들이 그를 예후의 병거에 태웠다.
17 When he came to Samaria, he struck all who remained to Ahab in Samaria, until he had destroyed them, according to Yahweh’s word which he spoke to Elijah.And when he came to Samaria, he smote all that remained unto Ahab in Samaria, till he had destroyed him, according to the word of Jehovah, which he spake to Elijah.예후가 사마리아에 이르러 아합에게 속하여 사마리아에 남아 있던 자들을 다 쳐서, 여호와께서 엘리야에게 하신 말씀대로 그를 진멸하였다.
18 Jehu gathered all the people together, and said to them, “Ahab served Baal a little, but Jehu will serve him much.And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu will serve him much.예후가 온 백성을 함께 모으고 그들에게 말하였다. "아합은 바알을 조금 섬겼으나, 예후는 그를 많이 섬길 것이다.
19 Now therefore call to me all the prophets of Baal, all of his worshipers, and all of his priests. Let no one be absent, for I have a great sacrifice to Baal. Whoever is absent, he shall not live.” But Jehu did deceptively, intending to destroy the worshipers of Baal.Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his worshippers, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtlety, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.그러므로 이제 바알의 모든 선지자와 그를 섬기는 모든 자와 그의 모든 제사장을 내게로 불러오라. 하나도 빠지지 않게 하라. 내가 바알에게 드릴 큰 제사가 있으니, 빠지는 자는 살지 못하리라." 그러나 예후는 바알을 섬기는 자들을 멸하려는 뜻으로 교묘히 이렇게 한 것이었다.
20 Jehu said, “ Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal!” So they proclaimed it.And Jehu said, Sanctify a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.예후가 말하였다. "바알을 위하여 거룩한 대회를 선포하라." 그러자 그들이 그것을 공포하였다.
21 Jehu sent through all Israel; and all the worshipers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that didn’t come. They came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was filled from one end to another.And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was filled from one end to another.예후가 온 이스라엘에 사람을 보내니, 바알을 섬기는 모든 자가 와서 한 사람도 빠지지 않았다. 그들이 바알의 신전으로 들어오니, 바알의 신전이 이 끝에서 저 끝까지 가득 찼다.
22 He said to him who kept the wardrobe, “ Bring out robes for all the worshipers of Baal!” So he brought robes out to them.And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.예후가 예복을 맡은 자에게 말하였다. "바알을 섬기는 모든 자에게 예복을 내어 주라." 그가 그들에게 예복을 내어 주었다.
23 Jehu went with Jehonadab the son of Rechab into the house of Baal. Then he said to the worshipers of Baal, “ Search, and see that none of the servants of Yahweh are here with you, but only the worshipers of Baal.”And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal; and he said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of Jehovah, but the worshippers of Baal only.예후가 레갑의 아들 여호나답과 함께 바알의 신전으로 들어가 바알을 섬기는 자들에게 말하였다. "잘 살펴서 여기 너희 가운데 여호와의 종은 하나도 없고, 오직 바알을 섬기는 자들만 있게 하라."
24 So they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings. Now Jehu had appointed for himself eighty men outside, and said, “ If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he who lets him go, his life shall be for the life of him.”And they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt-offerings. Now Jehu had appointed him fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I bring into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.그들이 희생제물과 번제를 드리려고 들어갔다. 그때 예후는 밖에 여든 명을 세워 두고 말하였다. "내가 너희 손에 넘기는 사람들 가운데 하나라도 도망치면, 그를 놓아준 자는 자기 목숨으로 그 목숨을 대신하리라."
25 As soon as he had finished offering the burnt offering, Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, “ Go in and kill them! Let no one escape.” So they struck them with the edge of the sword. The guard and the captains threw the bodies out, and went to the inner shrine of the house of Baal.And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt-offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.번제 드리기를 마치자마자 예후가 호위병들과 지휘관들에게 말하였다. "들어가서 그들을 죽이라. 하나도 도망치지 못하게 하라." 그러자 그들이 칼날로 그들을 치고, 호위병들과 지휘관들이 그 시체들을 밖으로 내던지고 바알 신전의 안쪽 성소로 들어갔다.
26 They brought out the pillars that were in the house of Baal and burned them.And they brought forth the pillars that were in the house of Baal, and burned them.그들이 바알의 신전에 있던 기둥들을 끌어내어 불살랐다.
27 They broke down the pillar of Baal, and broke down the house of Baal, and made it a latrine, to this day.And they brake down the pillar of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught-house, unto this day.그들이 바알의 석상을 헐고 바알의 신전을 헐어 변소로 만들었으니, 오늘날까지 그러하다.
28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.이와 같이 예후가 이스라엘에서 바알을 멸하였다.
29 However, Jehu didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin — the golden calves that were in Bethel and that were in Dan.Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Beth-el, and that were in Dan.그러나 예후는 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 느밧의 아들 여로보암의 죄에서는 떠나지 아니하였으니, 곧 벧엘과 단에 있던 금송아지들이었다.
30 Yahweh said to Jehu, “ Because you have done well in executing that which is right in my eyes, and have done to Ahab’s house according to all that was in my heart, your descendants shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.”And Jehovah said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in my heart, thy sons of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.여호와께서 예후에게 말씀하셨다. "네가 내 눈에 옳은 일을 잘 행하여 아합의 집에 내 마음에 있던 대로 다 행하였으니, 네 자손이 사 대에 이르도록 이스라엘 왕좌에 앉으리라."
31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of Yahweh, the God of Israel, with all his heart. He didn’t depart from the sins of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin.But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of Jehovah, the God of Israel, with all his heart: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, wherewith he made Israel to sin.그러나 예후는 마음을 다하여 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와의 율법을 따라 걷는 일에는 주의하지 아니하였다. 그는 이스라엘로 죄를 짓게 한 여로보암의 죄에서 떠나지 아니하였다.
32 In those days Yahweh began to cut away parts of Israel; and Hazael struck them in all the borders of IsraelIn those days Jehovah began to cut off from Israel: and Hazael smote them in all the borders of Israel;그 무렵에 여호와께서 이스라엘을 깎아 내기 시작하셨으니, 하사엘이 이스라엘의 모든 국경에서 그들을 쳤다.
33 from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.from the Jordan eastward, all the land of Gilead, the Gadites, and the Reubenites, and the Manassites, from Aroer, which is by the valley of the Arnon, even Gilead and Bashan.곧 요단 동쪽으로 길르앗 온 땅 곧 갓 사람과 르우벤 사람과 므낫세 사람의 땅이었으니, 아르논 골짜기 곁에 있는 아로엘에서부터 길르앗과 바산까지였다.
34 Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, aren’t they written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?Now the rest of the acts of Jehu, and all that he did, and all his might, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?예후의 나머지 행적과 그가 행한 모든 일과 그의 모든 용맹은 이스라엘 왕들의 역대지략에 기록되어 있지 아니한가?
35 Jehu slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria. Jehoahaz his son reigned in his place.And Jehu slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria. And Jehoahaz his son reigned in his stead.예후가 자기 조상들과 함께 잠드니, 사람들이 그를 사마리아에 장사하였다. 그의 아들 여호아하스가 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었다.
36 The time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty-eight years.And the time that Jehu reigned over Israel in Samaria was twenty and eight years.예후가 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 다스린 기간은 스물여덟 해였다.
