1 In the twenty-third year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria for seventeen years.In the three and twentieth year of Joash the son of Ahaziah, king of Judah, Jehoahaz the son of Jehu began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned seventeen years.유다 왕 아하시야의 아들 요아스가 다스린 지 스물세 해째 되던 때에, 예후의 아들 여호아하스가 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 다스리기 시작하여 열일곱 해 동안 왕으로 있었다.
2 He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin. He didn’t depart from it.And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and followed the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin; he departed not therefrom.그는 여호와께서 보시기에 악한 일을 행하였다. 그는 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 이스라엘에게 짓게 한 그 죄들을 그대로 좇았고, 거기에서 떠나지 않았다.
3 Yahweh’s anger burned against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael, continually.And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he delivered them into the hand of Hazael king of Syria, and into the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael, continually.그리하여 여호와께서 이스라엘을 향해 진노하셨고, 그들을 시리아 왕 하사엘의 손과 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에 끊임없이 넘기셨다.
4 Jehoahaz begged Yahweh, and Yahweh listened to him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how the king of Syria oppressed them.And Jehoahaz besought Jehovah, and Jehovah hearkened unto him; for he saw the oppression of Israel, how that the king of Syria oppressed them.여호아하스가 여호와께 간구하니, 여호와께서 그의 기도를 들으셨다. 시리아 왕이 이스라엘을 억누르는 그 억압을 보셨기 때문이다.
5 ( Yahweh gave Israel a savior, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel lived in their tents as before.( And Jehovah gave Israel a saviour, so that they went out from under the hand of the Syrians; and the children of Israel dwelt in their tents as beforetime.(여호와께서 이스라엘에게 한 구원자를 주셔서, 그들이 시리아 사람들의 손아래에서 벗어나게 하셨다. 그래서 이스라엘 자손은 전처럼 자기 장막에서 살게 되었다.
6 Nevertheless they didn’t depart from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, with which he made Israel to sin, but walked in them; and the Asherah also remained in Samaria.)Nevertheless they departed not from the sins of the house of Jeroboam, wherewith he made Israel to sin, but walked therein: and there remained the Asherah also in Samaria.)그러나 그들은 여로보암 집안이 이스라엘에게 짓게 한 죄들에서 떠나지 않고 그 길로 걸어갔으며, 사마리아에는 아세라 목상도 그대로 남아 있었다.)
7 For he didn’t leave to Jehoahaz of the people any more than fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria destroyed them and made them like the dust in threshing.For he left not to Jehoahaz of the people save fifty horsemen, and ten chariots, and ten thousand footmen; for the king of Syria destroyed them, and made them like the dust in threshing.시리아 왕이 그들을 멸하여 타작 때의 먼지처럼 만들어 버렸으므로, 여호아하스에게 남은 군사라고는 기병 쉰 명과 병거 열 대와 보병 만 명뿐이었다.

9 Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria; and Joash his son reigned in his place.And Jehoahaz slept with his fathers; and they buried him in Samaria: and Joash his son reigned in his stead.여호아하스가 자기 조상들과 함께 잠들매, 사람들이 그를 사마리아에 장사하였다. 그리고 그의 아들 요아스가 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었다.
10 In the thirty-seventh year of Joash king of Judah, Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz began to reign over Israel in Samaria for sixteen years.In the thirty and seventh year of Joash king of Judah began Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned sixteen years.유다 왕 요아스가 다스린 지 서른일곱 해째 되던 때에, 여호아하스의 아들 여호아스가 사마리아에서 이스라엘을 다스리기 시작하여 열여섯 해 동안 왕으로 있었다.
11 He did that which was evil in Yahweh’s sight. He didn’t depart from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, with which he made Israel to sin; but he walked in them.And he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah; he departed not from all the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, wherewith he made Israel to sin; but he walked therein.그도 여호와께서 보시기에 악한 일을 행하였다. 그는 느밧의 아들 여로보암이 이스라엘에게 짓게 한 그 모든 죄에서 떠나지 않고 그 길로 걸어갔다.

13 Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat on his throne. Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.And Joash slept with his fathers; and Jeroboam sat upon his throne: and Joash was buried in Samaria with the kings of Israel.요아스가 자기 조상들과 함께 잠들매, 여로보암이 그의 왕좌에 앉았다. 요아스는 이스라엘 왕들과 함께 사마리아에 장사되었다.
14 Now Elisha became sick with the illness of which he died; and Joash the king of Israel came down to him, and wept over him, and said, “ My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and its horsemen!”Now Elisha was fallen sick of his sickness whereof he died: and Joash the king of Israel came down unto him, and wept over him, and said, My father, my father, the chariots of Israel and the horsemen thereof!그때에 엘리사가 죽을 병이 들어 앓고 있었는데, 이스라엘 왕 요아스가 그에게 내려와 그를 붙들고 울며 말하였다. "내 아버지여, 내 아버지여, 이스라엘의 병거와 그 기병이여!"
15 Elisha said to him, “ Take bow and arrows;” and he took bow and arrows for himself.And Elisha said unto him, Take bow and arrows; and he took unto him bow and arrows.엘리사가 그에게 말하였다. "활과 화살들을 가져오십시오." 그러자 그가 활과 화살들을 가져왔다.
16 He said to the king of Israel, “ Put your hand on the bow;” and he put his hand on it. Elisha laid his hands on the king’s hands.And he said to the king of Israel, Put thy hand upon the bow; and he put his hand upon it. And Elisha laid his hands upon the king’s hands.엘리사가 이스라엘 왕에게 말하였다. "당신의 손을 활에 얹으십시오." 그가 그 활에 손을 얹으니, 엘리사가 자기 손을 왕의 손 위에 얹었다.
17 He said, “ Open the window eastward;” and he opened it. Then Elisha said, “ Shoot!” and he shot. He said, “ Yahweh’s arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for you will strike the Syrians in Aphek until you have consumed them.”And he said, Open the window eastward; and he opened it. Then Elisha said, Shoot; and he shot. And he said, Jehovah’s arrow of victory, even the arrow of victory over Syria; for thou shalt smite the Syrians in Aphek, till thou have consumed them.엘리사가 말하였다. "동쪽으로 난 창문을 여십시오." 그가 그것을 열자, 엘리사가 "쏘십시오!" 하니 그가 쏘았다. 엘리사가 말하였다. "여호와의 승리의 화살이요, 곧 시리아를 이기는 승리의 화살입니다. 당신이 아벡에서 시리아 사람들을 쳐서 그들을 진멸하게 될 것입니다."
18 He said, “ Take the arrows;” and he took them. He said to the king of Israel, “ Strike the ground;” and he struck three times, and stopped.And he said, Take the arrows; and he took them. And he said unto the king of Israel, Smite upon the ground; and he smote thrice, and stayed.엘리사가 또 말하였다. "화살들을 가져오십시오." 그가 그것들을 가져오니, 엘리사가 이스라엘 왕에게 말하였다. "땅을 치십시오." 그가 세 번 치고 멈추었다.
19 The man of God was angry with him, and said, “ You should have struck five or six times. Then you would have struck Syria until you had consumed it, but now you will strike Syria just three times.”And the man of God was wroth with him, and said, Thou shouldest have smitten five or six times: then hadst thou smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it; whereas now thou shalt smite Syria but thrice.하나님의 사람이 그에게 노하여 말하였다. "당신은 다섯 번이나 여섯 번을 쳤어야 합니다. 그랬다면 당신이 시리아를 쳐서 진멸할 때까지 이르렀을 것인데, 이제는 시리아를 단지 세 번만 치게 될 것입니다."

21 As they were burying a man, behold, they saw a band of raiders; and they threw the man into Elisha’s tomb. As soon as the man touched Elisha’s bones, he revived, and stood up on his feet.And it came to pass, as they were burying a man, that, behold, they spied a band; and they cast the man into the sepulchre of Elisha: and as soon as the man touched the bones of Elisha, he revived, and stood up on his feet.마침 사람들이 한 사람을 장사하다가, 보라 한 약탈대를 발견하고는 그 사람을 엘리사의 무덤에 던져 넣었다. 그 사람이 엘리사의 뼈에 닿자마자 그가 살아나 자기 발로 일어섰다.
22 Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.And Hazael king of Syria oppressed Israel all the days of Jehoahaz.시리아 왕 하사엘은 여호아하스가 살아 있는 모든 날 동안 이스라엘을 억눌렀다.
23 But Yahweh was gracious to them, and had compassion on them, and favored them because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them and he didn’t cast them from his presence as yet.But Jehovah was gracious unto them, and had compassion on them, and had respect unto them, because of his covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and would not destroy them, neither cast he them from his presence as yet.그러나 여호와께서는 아브라함과 이삭과 야곱과 맺으신 언약 때문에 그들에게 은혜를 베푸시고, 그들을 긍휼히 여기시며, 그들을 돌아보셨다. 그래서 그들을 멸하지 않으셨고, 아직은 그들을 그분 앞에서 내쫓지 않으셨다.
24 Hazael king of Syria died; and Benhadad his son reigned in his place.And Hazael king of Syria died; and Ben-hadad his son reigned in his stead.시리아 왕 하사엘이 죽으니, 그의 아들 벤하닷이 그를 대신하여 왕이 되었다.
25 Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Benhadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Joash struck him three times, and recovered the cities of Israel.And Jehoash the son of Jehoahaz took again out of the hand of Ben-hadad the son of Hazael the cities which he had taken out of the hand of Jehoahaz his father by war. Three times did Joash smite him, and recovered the cities of Israel.여호아하스의 아들 여호아스는 벤하닷이 전쟁으로 자기 아버지 여호아하스의 손에서 빼앗았던 성읍들을, 하사엘의 아들 벤하닷의 손에서 다시 되찾았다. 요아스가 그를 세 번 쳐서 이스라엘의 성읍들을 회복하였다.
