1 Now in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.Now it came to pass in the third year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Hezekiah the son of Ahaz king of Judah began to reign.이스라엘 왕 엘라의 아들 호세아 제삼년에, 유다 왕 아하스의 아들 히스기야가 다스리기 시작했다.
2 He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.Twenty and five years old was he when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother’s name was Abi the daughter of Zechariah.그가 다스리기 시작할 때에 나이가 스물다섯 살이었고, 예루살렘에서 스물아홉 해를 다스렸다. 그의 어머니의 이름은 아비로, 스가랴의 딸이었다.
3 He did that which was right in Yahweh’s eyes, according to all that David his father had done.And he did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, according to all that David his father had done.그는 그의 조상 다윗이 행한 모든 것을 따라 여호와께서 보시기에 옳은 일을 행했다.
4 He removed the high places, broke the pillars, and cut down the Asherah. He also broke in pieces the bronze serpent that Moses had made, because in those days the children of Israel burned incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.He removed the high places, and brake the pillars, and cut down the Asherah: and he brake in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made; for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it; and he called it Nehushtan.그는 산당들을 없애고, 우상 기둥들을 부수고, 아세라 목상을 찍어 버렸다. 또 모세가 만들었던 놋뱀을 산산조각 냈는데, 그 무렵까지 이스라엘 자손이 그것에게 분향했기 때문이었다. 그는 그것을 느후스단이라 불렀다.
5 He trusted in Yahweh, the God of Israel, so that after him was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.He trusted in Jehovah, the God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor among them that were before him.그는 이스라엘의 하나님 여호와를 신뢰했다. 그래서 그의 뒤로도, 그의 앞에 있던 모든 유다 왕들 중에도 그와 같은 이가 없었다.
6 For he joined with Yahweh. He didn’t depart from following him, but kept his commandments, which Yahweh commanded Moses.For he clave to Jehovah; he departed not from following him, but kept his commandments, which Jehovah commanded Moses.그는 여호와께 연합하여 그를 따르기를 떠나지 않았고, 여호와께서 모세에게 명하신 그의 계명들을 지켰다.
7 Yahweh was with him. Wherever he went, he prospered. He rebelled against the king of Assyria, and didn’t serve him.And Jehovah was with him; whithersoever he went forth he prospered: and he rebelled against the king of Assyria, and served him not.여호와께서 그와 함께 계셔서, 그가 나가는 곳마다 형통했다. 그는 앗수르 왕에게 반역하여 그를 섬기지 않았다.
8 He struck the Philistines to Gaza and its borders, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.He smote the Philistines unto Gaza and the borders thereof, from the tower of the watchmen to the fortified city.그는 블레셋 사람들을 쳐서 가사와 그 경계에 이르렀으니, 망대로부터 견고한 성읍까지 그러했다.
9 In the fourth year of King Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria and besieged it.And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Hezekiah, which was the seventh year of Hoshea son of Elah king of Israel, that Shalmaneser king of Assyria came up against Samaria, and besieged it.히스기야 왕 제사년 곧 이스라엘 왕 엘라의 아들 호세아 제칠년에, 앗수르 왕 살만에셀이 사마리아로 올라와 그곳을 에워쌌다.
10 At the end of three years they took it. In the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.And at the end of three years they took it: in the sixth year of Hezekiah, which was the ninth year of Hoshea king of Israel, Samaria was taken.삼 년 만에 그들이 그곳을 점령했으니, 히스기야 제육년 곧 이스라엘 왕 호세아 제구년에 사마리아가 함락되었다.
11 The king of Assyria carried Israel away to Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,And the king of Assyria carried Israel away unto Assyria, and put them in Halah, and on the Habor, the river of Gozan, and in the cities of the Medes,앗수르 왕은 이스라엘을 앗수르로 사로잡아 가서, 그들을 할라와 고산 강 가의 하볼과 메대 사람들의 성읍들에 두었다.
12 because they didn’t obey Yahweh their God’s voice, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Yahweh commanded, and would not hear it or do it.because they obeyed not the voice of Jehovah their God, but transgressed his covenant, even all that Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded, and would not hear it, nor do it.이는 그들이 그들의 하나님 여호와의 음성에 순종하지 않고 그의 언약을 어겼기 때문이니, 여호와의 종 모세가 명한 모든 것을 그들이 듣지도 않고 행하지도 않았던 것이다.
13 Now in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the fortified cities of Judah and took them.Now in the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah did Sennacherib king of Assyria come up against all the fortified cities of Judah, and took them.히스기야 왕 제십사년에, 앗수르 왕 산헤립이 유다의 모든 견고한 성읍들을 치러 올라와 그것들을 점령했다.
14 Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria at Lachish, saying, “ I have offended you. Withdraw from me. That which you put on me, I will bear.” The king of Assyria appointed to Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.And Hezekiah king of Judah sent to the king of Assyria to Lachish, saying, I have offended; return from me: that which thou puttest on me will I bear. And the king of Assyria appointed unto Hezekiah king of Judah three hundred talents of silver and thirty talents of gold.유다 왕 히스기야가 라기스로 앗수르 왕에게 사람을 보내어 말했다. "내가 잘못했습니다. 나에게서 물러가 주십시오. 당신이 나에게 지우는 것을 내가 감당하겠습니다." 앗수르 왕이 유다 왕 히스기야에게 은 삼백 달란트와 금 삼십 달란트를 부과했다.
15 Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in Yahweh’s house and in the treasures of the king’s house.And Hezekiah gave him all the silver that was found in the house of Jehovah, and in the treasures of the king’s house.히스기야는 여호와의 전과 왕궁의 보물 창고에서 발견된 모든 은을 그에게 주었다.
16 At that time, Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of Yahweh’s temple, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.At that time did Hezekiah cut off the gold from the doors of the temple of Jehovah, and from the pillars which Hezekiah king of Judah had overlaid, and gave it to the king of Assyria.그때에 히스기야는 여호와의 성전 문들에서 금을 떼어 내고, 자기 곧 유다 왕 히스기야가 입혔던 기둥들에서도 금을 떼어 내어 앗수르 왕에게 주었다.
17 The king of Assyria sent Tartan, Rabsaris, and Rabshakeh from Lachish to King Hezekiah with a great army to Jerusalem. They went up and came to Jerusalem. When they had come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.And the king of Assyria sent Tartan and Rab-saris and Rabshakeh from Lachish to king Hezekiah with a great army unto Jerusalem. And they went up and came to Jerusalem. And when they were come up, they came and stood by the conduit of the upper pool, which is in the highway of the fuller’s field.앗수르 왕이 다르단과 랍사리스와 랍사게를 라기스에서 큰 군대와 함께 히스기야 왕에게 보내어 예루살렘으로 향하게 했다. 그들이 올라가 예루살렘에 이르렀고, 올라와서는 빨래터 밭으로 가는 큰길에 있는 윗못의 수도 곁에 와서 섰다.
18 When they had called to the king, Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder came out to them.And when they had called to the king, there came out to them Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebnah the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder.그들이 왕을 부르니, 힐기야의 아들로 왕궁 살림을 맡은 엘리야김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들로 사관인 요아가 그들에게로 나아왔다.
19 Rabshakeh said to them, “Say now to Hezekiah, ‘ The great king, the king of Assyria, says, “ What confidence is this in which you trust?And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?랍사게가 그들에게 말했다. "이제 히스기야에게 말하여라. '위대한 왕, 곧 앗수르 왕께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. 네가 신뢰하는 이 확신은 무엇이냐?
20 You say ( but they are but vain words ), ‘ There is counsel and strength for war.’ Now on whom do you trust, that you have rebelled against me?Thou sayest ( but they are but vain words ), There is counsel and strength for the war. Now on whom dost thou trust, that thou hast rebelled against me?너는 (헛된 말일 뿐이지만) 전쟁을 위한 계략과 힘이 있다고 말한다. 이제 네가 누구를 신뢰하여 나에게 반역했느냐?
21 Now, behold, you trust in the staff of this bruised reed, even in Egypt. If a man leans on it, it will go into his hand and pierce it. So is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all who trust on him.Now, behold, thou trustest upon the staff of this bruised reed, even upon Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt unto all that trust on him.보아라, 너는 저 상한 갈대 지팡이 곧 이집트를 신뢰하는구나. 사람이 그것에 기대면 그것이 그의 손을 찌르고 들어갈 것이니, 이집트 왕 파라오는 그를 신뢰하는 모든 자에게 그러하다.
22 But if you tell me, ‘ We trust in Yahweh our God,’ isn’t that he whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah has taken away, and has said to Judah and to Jerusalem, ‘ You shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem’?But if ye say unto me, We trust in Jehovah our God; is not that he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and hath said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar in Jerusalem?그러나 너희가 나에게 '우리는 우리 하나님 여호와를 신뢰한다'고 말한다면, 그분이 바로 히스기야가 그분의 산당과 제단을 헐어 버린 그 하나님이 아니냐? 히스기야가 유다와 예루살렘에게 말하기를 '너희는 예루살렘에 있는 이 제단 앞에서 경배하여라' 하지 않았느냐?
23 Now therefore, please give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give you two thousand horses if you are able on your part to set riders on them.Now therefore, I pray thee, give pledges to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.그러니 이제 내 주 앗수르 왕과 내기를 하여라. 네가 네 편에서 말 탈 사람들을 세울 수만 있다면, 내가 너에게 말 이천 마리를 주겠다.
24 How then can you turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put your trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?How then canst thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?그러니 네가 어떻게 내 주의 종들 가운데 가장 작은 한 지휘관의 얼굴이라도 돌이킬 수 있겠으며, 병거와 기병을 위해 이집트를 신뢰하느냐?
25 Have I now come up without Yahweh against this place to destroy it? Yahweh said to me, ‘ Go up against this land, and destroy it.’”’”Am I now come up without Jehovah against this place to destroy it? Jehovah said unto me, Go up against this land, and destroy it.내가 이제 여호와 없이 이곳을 멸하러 올라왔겠느냐? 여호와께서 나에게 말씀하시기를 '이 땅을 치러 올라가서 그것을 멸하여라' 하셨다.'"
26 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, Shebnah, and Joah, said to Rabshakeh, “ Please speak to your servants in the Syrian language, for we understand it. Don’t speak with us in the Jews’ language, in the hearing of the people who are on the wall.”Then said Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, and Shebnah, and Joah, unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, to thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not with us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.그러자 힐기야의 아들 엘리야김과 셉나와 요아가 랍사게에게 말했다. "청하건대 당신의 종들에게 아람 말로 말씀해 주십시오. 우리가 그것을 알아듣습니다. 성벽 위에 있는 백성이 듣는 데서 우리에게 유다 말로는 말씀하지 마십시오."
27 But Rabshakeh said to them, “ Has my master sent me to your master and to you, to speak these words? Hasn’t he sent me to the men who sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own urine with you?”But Rabshakeh said unto them, Hath my master sent me to thy master, and to thee, to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit on the wall, to eat their own dung, and to drink their own water with you?그러나 랍사게가 그들에게 말했다. "내 주께서 나를 보내신 것이 네 주와 너에게만 이 말을 하라는 것이냐? 오히려 성벽 위에 앉은 사람들에게도 하라는 것이 아니냐? 그들은 너희와 함께 자기 똥을 먹고 자기 오줌을 마시게 될 자들이다."
28 Then Rabshakeh stood and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spoke, saying, “ Hear the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and spake, saying, Hear ye the word of the great king, the king of Assyria.그러고는 랍사게가 일어서서 유다 말로 큰 소리로 외쳐 말했다. "위대한 왕, 곧 앗수르 왕의 말을 들어라.
29 The king says, ‘Don’t let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand.Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you; for he will not be able to deliver you out of his hand:왕께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. '히스기야가 너희를 속이지 못하게 하여라. 그는 너희를 그의 손에서 건져 낼 수 없을 것이다.
30 Don’t let Hezekiah make you trust in Yahweh, saying, “ Yahweh will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.”neither let Hezekiah make you trust in Jehovah, saying, Jehovah will surely deliver us, and this city shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.또 히스기야가 너희로 여호와를 신뢰하게 하면서 '여호와께서 반드시 우리를 건지실 것이며, 이 성이 앗수르 왕의 손에 넘어가지 않을 것이다'라고 말하게 두지 마라.
31 Don’t listen to Hezekiah.’ For the king of Assyria says, ‘ Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and everyone of you eat from his own vine, and everyone from his own fig tree, and everyone drink water from his own cistern;Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make your peace with me, and come out to me; and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig-tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;히스기야의 말을 듣지 마라.' 앗수르 왕께서 이렇게 말씀하신다. '나와 화친하고 나에게로 나아오너라. 그리하면 너희가 저마다 자기 포도나무와 자기 무화과나무의 열매를 먹고, 저마다 자기 우물의 물을 마실 것이다.
32 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive trees and of honey, that you may live and not die. Don’t listen to Hezekiah when he persuades you, saying, “ Yahweh will deliver us.”until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and new wine, a land of bread and vineyards, a land of olive-trees and of honey, that ye may live, and not die: and hearken not unto Hezekiah, when he persuadeth you, saying, Jehovah will deliver us.내가 가서 너희를 너희 땅과 같은 땅 곧 곡식과 새 포도주의 땅, 빵과 포도원의 땅, 올리브나무와 꿀의 땅으로 데려갈 때까지 그러할 것이니, 그리하면 너희가 살고 죽지 않을 것이다. 히스기야가 '여호와께서 우리를 건지실 것이다'라고 너희를 설득하더라도 그의 말을 듣지 마라.
33 Has any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?Hath any of the gods of the nations ever delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?민족들의 신들 가운데 어느 하나라도 자기 땅을 앗수르 왕의 손에서 건져 낸 적이 있느냐?
34 Where are the gods of Hamath and of Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?Where are the gods of Hamath, and of Arpad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim, of Hena, and Ivvah? have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?하맛과 아르밧의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 스발와임과 헤나와 이와의 신들이 어디 있느냐? 그들이 사마리아를 내 손에서 건져 냈느냐?
35 Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Yahweh should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’”Who are they among all the gods of the countries, that have delivered their country out of my hand, that Jehovah should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?여러 나라의 모든 신들 가운데 누가 자기 나라를 내 손에서 건져 냈기에, 여호와가 예루살렘을 내 손에서 건지겠느냐?'"
36 But the people stayed quiet, and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Don’t answer him.”But the people held their peace, and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.그러나 백성은 잠잠하여 그에게 한마디도 대답하지 않았으니, 이는 "그에게 대답하지 마라"는 왕의 명령이 있었기 때문이었다.
37 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, came with Shebna the scribe and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him Rabshakeh’s words.Then came Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.그러자 왕궁 살림을 맡은 힐기야의 아들 엘리야김과 서기관 셉나와 아삽의 아들로 사관인 요아가 옷을 찢고 히스기야에게로 와서 랍사게의 말을 그에게 전했다.
