26. 유대 신정 국가 안에서 문자 그대로 사실이며, 어느 정도는 모든 시대에도 그러하다(욥 27:16~17, 잠 13:22, 28:8). 지금은 그때처럼 보응이 눈에 보이거나 즉각적이지 않더라도, 그것은 조금도 덜 실재하지 않는다. 이 세상에서도 행복은 경건한 자의 몫이 더 참되다(시 84:11, 마 5:5, 막 10:29~30, 롬 8:28, 딤전 4:8). **죄인은 주는 것이니라** — 즉, 자신도 모르게, 자신의 의지와 무관하게. 경건한 솔로몬은 하나님이 재물과 지혜를 주셨을 때 그것들에서 만족을 얻었다(대하 1:11~12). 타락한 솔로몬은 하나님을 떠나 그것들에서 행복을 구할 때 행복을 얻지 못했으며, 그가 쌓아 놓은 재물은 시삭의 먹이가 되었다(대하 12:9 이하).
