Proverbs 30장

1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, the revelation: the man says to Ithiel, to Ithiel and Ucal:The words of Agur the son of Jakeh; the oracle. The man saith unto Ithiel, unto Ithiel and Ucal:야게의 아들 아굴의 말씀, 곧 그가 받은 신탁이다. 이 사람이 이디엘에게, 이디엘과 우갈에게 말한다.

2 “ Surely I am the most ignorant man, and don’t have a man’s understanding.Surely I am more brutish than any man, And have not the understanding of a man;“참으로 나는 사람들 가운데 가장 미련하여, 사람다운 깨달음조차 없구나.

3 I have not learned wisdom, neither do I have the knowledge of the Holy One.And I have not learned wisdom, Neither have I the knowledge of the Holy One.나는 지혜를 배우지 못하였고, 거룩하신 분을 아는 지식도 갖지 못하였다.

4 Who has ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who has gathered the wind in his fists? Who has bound the waters in his garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if you know?Who hath ascended up into heaven, and descended? Who hath gathered the wind in his fists? Who hath bound the waters in his garment? What is his name, and what is his son’s name, if thou knowest?누가 하늘에 올라갔다가 내려왔느냐? 누가 바람을 그 두 손에 움켜잡았느냐? 누가 물을 옷자락에 싸 두었느냐? 누가 땅의 모든 끝을 세웠느냐? 그의 이름이 무엇이며 그의 아들의 이름이 무엇이냐? 네가 알거든 말해 보아라.

5 “ Every word of God is flawless. He is a shield to those who take refuge in him.Every word of God is tried: He is a shield unto them that take refuge in him.“하나님의 말씀은 한마디 한마디가 흠이 없다. 그분께 피하는 모든 사람에게 그분은 방패가 되신다.

6 Don’t you add to his words, lest he reprove you, and you be found a liar.Add thou not unto his words, Lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.너는 그분의 말씀에 더하지 말아라. 그러지 않으면 그분이 너를 책망하시고, 너는 거짓말하는 자로 드러날 것이다.

7 “ Two things I have asked of you. Don’t deny me before I die.Two things have I asked of thee; Deny me them not before I die:“내가 주께 두 가지를 구하오니, 내가 죽기 전에 이것들을 거절하지 말아 주십시오.

8 Remove far from me falsehood and lies. Give me neither poverty nor riches. Feed me with the food that is needful for me,Remove far from me falsehood and lies; Give me neither poverty nor riches; Feed me with the food that is needful for me:헛된 것과 거짓말을 내게서 멀리하여 주시고, 가난도 부유함도 내게 주지 마시며, 내게 필요한 양식만 먹여 주십시오.

9 lest I be full, deny you, and say, ‘ Who is Yahweh?’ or lest I be poor, and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is Jehovah? Or lest I be poor, and steal, And use profanely the name of my God.그렇지 않으면 내가 배불러 주를 부인하고 ‘여호와가 누구냐?’ 할까 두렵고, 혹은 내가 가난하여 도둑질하고 내 하나님의 이름을 욕되게 할까 두렵습니다.

10 “Don’t slander a servant to his master, lest he curse you, and you be held guilty.Slander not a servant unto his master, Lest he curse thee, and thou be held guilty.“종을 그 주인에게 헐뜯지 말아라. 그러지 않으면 그가 너를 저주하고, 너는 죄가 있다고 여겨질 것이다.

11 There is a generation that curses their father, and doesn’t bless their mother.There is a generation that curse their father, And bless not their mother.자기 아버지를 저주하고 자기 어머니를 축복하지 않는 세대가 있다.

12 There is a generation that is pure in their own eyes, yet are not washed from their filthiness.There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, And yet are not washed from their filthiness.자기 눈에는 스스로 깨끗하다 여기지만, 그 더러움에서 씻기지 않은 세대가 있다.

13 There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! Their eyelids are lifted up.There is a generation, oh how lofty are their eyes! And their eyelids are lifted up.아, 그 눈이 얼마나 높이 들렸는지, 그 눈꺼풀이 치켜올라간 세대가 있다.

14 There is a generation whose teeth are like swords, and their jaws like knives, to devour the poor from the earth, and the needy from among men.There is a generation whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, To devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men.그 이가 칼 같고 어금니가 단도 같아서, 가난한 사람을 땅에서, 궁핍한 사람을 사람들 가운데서 삼키는 세대가 있다.

15 “ The leech has two daughters: ‘ Give, give.’ “There are three things that are never satisfied; four that don’t say, ‘ Enough!’:The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, Yea, four that say not, Enough:“거머리에게는 두 딸이 있어 ‘다오, 다오’ 하고 외친다. 결코 만족할 줄 모르는 것이 셋, 아니 ‘충분하다’고 말하지 않는 것이 넷이 있으니,

16 Sheol, the barren womb, the earth that is not satisfied with water, and the fire that doesn’t say, ‘ Enough!’Sheol; and the barren womb; The earth that is not satisfied with water; And the fire that saith not, Enough.스올과, 아이를 낳지 못하는 태와, 물로 채워지지 않는 땅과, ‘충분하다’ 하지 않는 불이다.

17 “ The eye that mocks at his father, and scorns obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, the young eagles shall eat it.The eye that mocketh at his father, And despiseth to obey his mother, The ravens of the valley shall pick it out, And the young eagles shall eat it.아버지를 비웃고 어머니께 순종하기를 업신여기는 눈은, 골짜기의 까마귀가 쪼아 내고 어린 독수리가 먹을 것이다.

18 “ There are three things which are too amazing for me, four which I don’t understand:There are three things which are too wonderful for me, Yea, four which I know not:“나에게 너무 놀라워 깨달을 수 없는 것이 셋, 아니 내가 알지 못하는 것이 넷이 있으니,

19 The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the middle of the sea, and the way of a man with a maiden.The way of an eagle in the air; The way of a serpent upon a rock; The way of a ship in the midst of the sea; And the way of a man with a maiden.공중을 나는 독수리의 길과, 바위 위를 기어가는 뱀의 길과, 바다 한가운데를 지나는 배의 길과, 남자가 여자와 함께하는 길이다.

20 “ So is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, and says, ‘ I have done nothing wrong.’So is the way of an adulterous woman; She eateth, and wipeth her mouth, And saith, I have done no wickedness.음행하는 여인의 길도 이러하니, 그 여인은 먹고 입을 씻고는 ‘나는 아무 잘못도 하지 않았다’ 한다.

21 “ For three things the earth trembles, and under four, it can’t bear up:For three things the earth doth tremble, And for four, which it cannot bear:“세 가지 일로 땅이 떨고, 네 가지 일은 땅이 견디지 못하니,

22 For a servant when he is king, a fool when he is filled with food,For a servant when he is king; And a fool when he is filled with food;종이 왕이 되는 것과, 어리석은 자가 음식으로 배부른 것과,

23 for an unloved woman when she is married, and a servant who is heir to her mistress.For an odious woman when she is married; And a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.사랑받지 못하던 여인이 시집가는 것과, 여종이 그 여주인의 자리를 이어받는 것이다.

24 “ There are four things which are little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise:There are four things which are little upon the earth, But they are exceeding wise:“땅 위에 작으면서도 지극히 지혜로운 것이 넷이 있으니,

25 The ants are not a strong people, yet they provide their food in the summer.The ants are a people not strong, Yet they provide their food in the summer;개미는 힘이 강한 무리가 아니지만, 여름에 그 양식을 마련해 둔다.

26 The hyraxes are but a feeble folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks.The conies are but a feeble folk, Yet make they their houses in the rocks;바위너구리는 연약한 무리이지만, 바위 틈에 그 집을 짓는다.

27 The locusts have no king, yet they advance in ranks.The locusts have no king, Yet go they forth all of them by bands;메뚜기는 왕이 없지만, 떼를 지어 질서 있게 나아간다.

28 You can catch a lizard with your hands, yet it is in kings’ palaces.The lizard taketh hold with her hands, Yet is she in kings’ palaces.도마뱀은 손으로 잡을 수 있지만, 왕의 궁궐에 있다.

29 “ There are three things which are stately in their march, four which are stately in going:There are three things which are stately in their march, Yea, four which are stately in going:“위엄 있게 걷는 것이 셋, 아니 위엄 있게 다니는 것이 넷이 있으니,

30 The lion, which is mightiest among animals, and doesn’t turn away for any;The lion, which is mightiest among beasts, And turneth not away for any;짐승 가운데 가장 강하여 무엇 앞에서도 물러서지 않는 사자와,

31 the greyhound; the male goat; and the king against whom there is no rising up.The greyhound; the he-goat also; And the king against whom there is no rising up.사냥개와 숫염소와, 아무도 맞설 수 없는 왕이다.

32 “If you have done foolishly in lifting up yourself, or if you have thought evil, put your hand over your mouth.If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, Or if thou hast thought evil, Lay thy hand upon thy mouth.“네가 어리석게도 스스로를 높였거나 악한 일을 꾀하였거든, 네 손으로 네 입을 막아라.

33 For as the churning of milk produces butter, and the wringing of the nose produces blood, so the forcing of wrath produces strife.”For the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, And the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood; So the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.우유를 휘저으면 버터가 나오고 코를 비틀면 피가 나오는 것같이, 분노를 돋우면 다툼이 일어난다.”
