Proverbs 29장

1 He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy.He that being often reproved hardeneth his neck Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.자주 책망을 받으면서도 목을 곧게 세우는 사람은, 갑자기 무너져 다시 회복할 길이 없게 된다.

2 When the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; but when the wicked rule, the people groan.When the righteous are increased, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man beareth rule, the people sigh.의로운 사람이 번성하면 백성이 기뻐하지만, 악한 사람이 다스리면 백성이 신음한다.

3 Whoever loves wisdom brings joy to his father; but a companion of prostitutes squanders his wealth.Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; But he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his substance.지혜를 사랑하는 사람은 자기 아버지를 기쁘게 하지만, 창녀와 어울리는 사람은 자기 재산을 탕진한다.

4 The king by justice makes the land stable, but he who takes bribes tears it down.The king by justice establisheth the land; But he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it.왕은 공의로 나라를 굳건히 세우지만, 뇌물을 받는 사람은 나라를 무너뜨린다.

5 A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet.A man that flattereth his neighbor Spreadeth a net for his steps.이웃에게 아첨하는 사람은 그의 발 앞에 그물을 치는 것이다.

6 An evil man is snared by his sin, but the righteous can sing and be glad.In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare; But the righteous doth sing and rejoice.악한 사람은 자기 죄에 걸려들지만, 의로운 사람은 노래하며 즐거워할 수 있다.

7 The righteous care about justice for the poor. The wicked aren’t concerned about knowledge.The righteous taketh knowledge of the cause of the poor; The wicked hath not understanding to know it.의로운 사람은 가난한 이를 위한 정의에 마음을 쓰지만, 악한 사람은 그런 일을 알려고도 하지 않는다.

8 Mockers stir up a city, but wise men turn away anger.Scoffers set a city in a flame; But wise men turn away wrath.비웃는 사람은 성읍을 들쑤셔 놓지만, 지혜로운 사람은 분노를 가라앉힌다.

9 If a wise man goes to court with a foolish man, the fool rages or scoffs, and there is no peace.If a wise man hath a controversy with a foolish man, Whether he be angry or laugh, there will be no rest.지혜로운 사람이 어리석은 사람과 법정에서 다투면, 어리석은 자는 화를 내거나 비웃을 뿐 평안이 없다.

10 The bloodthirsty hate a man of integrity; and they seek the life of the upright.The bloodthirsty hate him that is perfect; And as for the upright, they seek his life.피 흘리기를 좋아하는 자들은 흠 없는 사람을 미워하고, 정직한 사람의 목숨을 노린다.

11 A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control.A fool uttereth all his anger; But a wise man keepeth it back and stilleth it.어리석은 사람은 자기 분노를 다 쏟아 내지만, 지혜로운 사람은 그것을 억누르고 다스린다.

12 If a ruler listens to lies, all of his officials are wicked.If a ruler hearkeneth to falsehood, All his servants are wicked.통치자가 거짓말에 귀를 기울이면, 그의 신하들이 모두 악해진다.

13 The poor man and the oppressor have this in common: Yahweh gives sight to the eyes of both.The poor man and the oppressor meet together; Jehovah lighteneth the eyes of them both.가난한 사람과 그를 억누르는 사람에게 공통점이 하나 있으니, 여호와께서 그 두 사람의 눈에 다 빛을 주신다는 것이다.

14 The king who fairly judges the poor, his throne shall be established forever.The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, His throne shall be established for ever.가난한 이를 공정하게 재판하는 왕은, 그의 왕좌가 영원히 굳건히 설 것이다.

15 The rod of correction gives wisdom, but a child left to himself causes shame to his mother.The rod and reproof give wisdom; But a child left to himself causeth shame to his mother.채찍과 책망은 지혜를 주지만, 제멋대로 자라도록 내버려 둔 자식은 자기 어머니에게 수치를 안긴다.

16 When the wicked increase, sin increases; but the righteous will see their downfall.When the wicked are increased, transgression increaseth; But the righteous shall look upon their fall.악한 사람이 많아지면 죄도 많아지지만, 의로운 사람은 그들이 무너지는 것을 보게 된다.

17 Correct your son, and he will give you peace; yes, he will bring delight to your soul.Correct thy son, and he will give thee rest; Yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.네 아들을 바로잡으라. 그러면 그가 네게 평안을 줄 것이며, 참으로 네 마음에 기쁨을 안겨 줄 것이다.

18 Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed.Where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint; But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.계시가 없으면 백성은 절제를 잃고 방종하지만, 율법을 지키는 사람은 복이 있다.

19 A servant can’t be corrected by words. Though he understands, yet he will not respond.A servant will not be corrected by words; For though he understand, he will not give heed.종은 말만으로는 바로잡히지 않으니, 알아듣더라도 따르려 하지 않기 때문이다.

20 Do you see a man who is hasty in his words? There is more hope for a fool than for him.Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him.말이 성급한 사람을 보았느냐? 그보다는 차라리 어리석은 사람에게 더 희망이 있다.

21 He who pampers his servant from youth will have him become a son in the end.He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child Shall have him become a son at the last.어려서부터 종을 응석받이로 키우면, 끝내는 그가 아들 노릇을 하려 들 것이다.

22 An angry man stirs up strife, and a wrathful man abounds in sin.An angry man stirreth up strife, And a wrathful man aboundeth in transgression.성내는 사람은 다툼을 일으키고, 분노하는 사람은 죄가 넘쳐난다.

23 A man’s pride brings him low, but one of lowly spirit gains honor.A man’s pride shall bring him low; But he that is of a lowly spirit shall obtain honor.사람의 교만은 그를 낮아지게 하지만, 마음이 겸손한 사람은 영예를 얻는다.

24 Whoever is an accomplice of a thief is an enemy of his own soul. He takes an oath, but dares not testify.Whoso is partner with a thief hateth his own soul; He heareth the adjuration and uttereth nothing.도둑과 한패가 되는 사람은 자기 자신의 영혼을 미워하는 자이니, 그는 맹세하고도 감히 증언하지 못한다.

25 The fear of man proves to be a snare, but whoever puts his trust in Yahweh is kept safe.The fear of man bringeth a snare; But whoso putteth his trust in Jehovah shall be safe.사람을 두려워하면 올무에 걸리지만, 여호와를 의지하는 사람은 안전하게 지켜진다.

26 Many seek the ruler’s favor, but a man’s justice comes from Yahweh.Many seek the ruler’s favor; But a man’s judgment cometh from Jehovah.많은 이들이 통치자의 환심을 구하지만, 사람을 위한 정의는 여호와께로부터 온다.

27 A dishonest man detests the righteous, and the upright in their ways detest the wicked.An unjust man is an abomination to the righteous; And he that is upright in the way is an abomination to the wicked.정직하지 못한 사람은 의로운 이를 싫어하고, 길이 곧은 사람은 악한 자를 싫어한다.
