2 Like a fluttering sparrow, like a darting swallow, so the undeserved curse doesn’t come to rest.As the sparrow in her wandering, as the swallow in her flying, So the curse that is causeless alighteth not.참새가 이리저리 날아다니고 제비가 쏜살같이 날아가듯이, 까닭 없는 저주는 내려앉지 못한다.
3 A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey, and a rod for the back of fools!A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, And a rod for the back of fools.말에게는 채찍이, 나귀에게는 굴레가, 어리석은 사람의 등에는 매가 필요하다.
4 Don’t answer a fool according to his folly, lest you also be like him.Answer not a fool according to his folly, Lest thou also be like unto him.어리석은 사람에게 그 어리석음을 따라 대답하지 말라. 너도 그와 같이 될까 두렵다.

6 One who sends a message by the hand of a fool is cutting off feet and drinking violence.He that sendeth a message by the hand of a fool Cutteth off his own feet, and drinketh in damage.어리석은 사람의 손에 소식을 들려 보내는 것은 제 발을 잘라 버리고 해를 들이켜는 것과 같다.
7 Like the legs of the lame that hang loose, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.The legs of the lame hang loose; So is a parable in the mouth of fools.저는 사람의 다리가 힘없이 늘어져 있듯이, 잠언이 어리석은 사람의 입에 있는 것이 그러하다.
8 As one who binds a stone in a sling, so is he who gives honor to a fool.As one that bindeth a stone in a sling, So is he that giveth honor to a fool.어리석은 사람에게 영예를 주는 것은 물매에 돌을 매어 두는 것과 같다.
9 Like a thorn bush that goes into the hand of a drunkard, so is a parable in the mouth of fools.As a thorn that goeth up into the hand of a drunkard, So is a parable in the mouth of fools.잠언이 어리석은 사람의 입에 있는 것은 술취한 사람의 손에 가시나무가 들린 것과 같다.
10 As an archer who wounds all, so is he who hires a fool or he who hires those who pass by.As an archer that woundeth all, So is he that hireth a fool and he that hireth them that pass by.어리석은 사람을 고용하거나 지나가는 사람을 고용하는 사람은 아무나 마구 쏘아 상하게 하는 활잡이와 같다.
11 As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.As a dog that returneth to his vomit, So is a fool that repeateth his folly.개가 토한 것을 다시 먹듯이, 어리석은 사람은 그 어리석음을 되풀이한다.
12 Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.스스로 지혜롭게 여기는 사람을 보았느냐? 그보다는 차라리 어리석은 사람에게 더 희망이 있다.
13 The sluggard says, “There is a lion in the road! A fierce lion roams the streets!”The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.게으른 사람은 "길에 사자가 있다! 사나운 사자가 거리를 어슬렁거린다!" 하고 말한다.
14 As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed.As the door turneth upon its hinges, So doth the sluggard upon his bed.문이 돌쩌귀를 따라 돌듯이, 게으른 사람은 침상에서 돌아눕기만 한다.
15 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish. He is too lazy to bring it back to his mouth.The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.게으른 사람은 그릇에 손을 묻어 두고도, 그 손을 입으로 가져오기조차 귀찮아한다.
16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes than seven men who answer with discretion.The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit Than seven men that can render a reason.게으른 사람은 분별 있게 대답하는 일곱 사람보다 스스로 더 지혜롭게 여긴다.
17 Like one who grabs a dog’s ears is one who passes by and meddles in a quarrel not his own.He that passeth by, and vexeth himself with strife belonging not to him, Is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.자기와 상관없는 다툼에 끼어들어 참견하는 사람은 지나가다가 개의 귀를 붙잡는 사람과 같다.
18 Like a madman who shoots torches, arrows, and death,As a madman who casteth firebrands, Arrows, and death,횃불과 화살과 죽음을 마구 쏘아대는 미친 사람처럼,
19 is the man who deceives his neighbor and says, “Am I not joking?”So is the man that deceiveth his neighbor, And saith, Am not I in sport?이웃을 속이고서 "농담일 뿐인데" 하고 말하는 사람이 그러하다.
20 For lack of wood a fire goes out. Without gossip, a quarrel dies down.For lack of wood the fire goeth out; And where there is no whisperer, contention ceaseth.나무가 없으면 불이 꺼지듯이, 험담하는 사람이 없으면 다툼이 가라앉는다.
21 As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, so is a contentious man to kindling strife.As coals are to hot embers, and wood to fire, So is a contentious man to inflame strife.숯이 타는 불씨를 살리고 나무가 불을 살리듯이, 다투기 좋아하는 사람은 싸움을 부추긴다.

23 Like silver dross on an earthen vessel are the lips of a fervent one with an evil heart.Fervent lips and a wicked heart Are like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross.뜨겁게 말하면서도 악한 마음을 품은 입술은, 질그릇에 입힌 은 찌꺼기와 같다.
24 A malicious man disguises himself with his lips, but he harbors evil in his heart.He that hateth dissembleth with his lips; But he layeth up deceit within him:악의에 찬 사람은 입술로는 자기를 꾸미지만, 마음속에는 악을 품고 있다.
25 When his speech is charming, don’t believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart.When he speaketh fair, believe him not; For there are seven abominations in his heart:그가 듣기 좋게 말할지라도 그를 믿지 말라. 그의 마음속에는 일곱 가지 가증한 것이 있기 때문이다.
26 His malice may be concealed by deception, but his wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.Though his hatred cover itself with guile, His wickedness shall be openly showed before the assembly.그의 악의가 속임수로 가려질지라도, 그의 악함은 회중 앞에서 드러나고 말 것이다.
27 Whoever digs a pit shall fall into it. Whoever rolls a stone, it will come back on him.Whoso diggeth a pit shall fall therein; And he that rolleth a stone, it shall return upon him.함정을 파는 사람은 그 함정에 빠지고, 돌을 굴리는 사람은 그 돌이 도로 자기에게 굴러온다.
28 A lying tongue hates those it hurts; and a flattering mouth works ruin.A lying tongue hateth those whom it hath wounded; And a flattering mouth worketh ruin.거짓말하는 혀는 자기가 해친 사람들을 미워하고, 아첨하는 입은 파멸을 가져온다.
