1 Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid.Whoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he that hateth reproof is brutish.훈계를 사랑하는 사람은 지식을 사랑하지만, 책망을 미워하는 사람은 어리석다.
2 A good man shall obtain favor from Yahweh, but he will condemn a man of wicked plans.A good man shall obtain favor of Jehovah; But a man of wicked devices will he condemn.선한 사람은 여호와께 은총을 얻지만, 악한 꾀를 꾸미는 사람은 그분께 정죄를 받는다.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness, but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.A man shall not be established by wickedness; But the root of the righteous shall not be moved.사람이 악으로는 굳게 서지 못하지만, 의인의 뿌리는 흔들리지 않는다.
4 A worthy woman is the crown of her husband, but a disgraceful wife is as rottenness in his bones.A worthy woman is the crown of her husband; But she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.어진 아내는 그 남편의 면류관이지만, 부끄러움을 끼치는 아내는 남편의 뼛속을 썩게 하는 것과 같다.
5 The thoughts of the righteous are just, but the advice of the wicked is deceitful.The thoughts of the righteous are just; But the counsels of the wicked are deceit.의인의 생각은 공정하지만, 악인의 조언은 속임수다.
6 The words of the wicked are about lying in wait for blood, but the speech of the upright rescues them.The words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.악인의 말은 피를 흘리려고 숨어 기다리는 것이지만, 정직한 사람의 말은 그들을 건져낸다.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and are no more, but the house of the righteous shall stand.The wicked are overthrown, and are not; But the house of the righteous shall stand.악인은 엎어져 사라지지만, 의인의 집은 굳게 선다.
8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom, but he who has a warped mind shall be despised.A man shall be commended according to his wisdom; But he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.사람은 그 지혜에 따라 칭찬을 받지만, 마음이 비뚤어진 사람은 멸시를 당한다.
9 Better is he who is little known, and has a servant, than he who honors himself and lacks bread.Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, Than he that honoreth himself, and lacketh bread.낮춤을 받아도 종을 거느린 사람이, 스스로 높이면서도 먹을 빵이 없는 사람보다 낫다.
10 A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.의인은 자기 가축의 생명을 돌보지만, 악인은 그 긍휼이라는 것조차 잔인하다.
11 He who tills his land shall have plenty of bread, but he who chases fantasies is void of understanding.He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread; But he that followeth after vain persons is void of understanding.자기 땅을 가는 사람은 먹을 빵이 넉넉하지만, 헛된 것을 좇는 사람은 지각이 없다.
12 The wicked desires the plunder of evil men, but the root of the righteous flourishes.The wicked desireth the net of evil men; But the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.악인은 악한 자들의 노략물을 탐내지만, 의인의 뿌리는 무성하게 자란다.
13 An evil man is trapped by sinfulness of lips, but the righteous shall come out of trouble.In the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; But the righteous shall come out of trouble.악한 사람은 입술의 죄에 걸려 넘어지지만, 의인은 환난에서 벗어난다.
14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth. The work of a man’s hands shall be rewarded to him.A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; And the doings of a man’s hands shall be rendered unto him.사람은 그 입의 열매로 선한 것에 만족하게 되며, 그 손이 한 일은 자기에게 되돌아온다.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, but he who is wise listens to counsel.The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; But he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.미련한 사람은 자기 길이 옳다고 여기지만, 지혜로운 사람은 조언에 귀를 기울인다.
16 A fool shows his annoyance the same day, but one who overlooks an insult is prudent.A fool’s vexation is presently known; But a prudent man concealeth shame.미련한 사람은 그날로 분노를 드러내지만, 모욕을 못 본 척 넘기는 사람은 슬기롭다.
17 He who is truthful testifies honestly, but a false witness lies.He that uttereth truth showeth forth righteousness; But a false witness, deceit.진실한 사람은 정직하게 증언하지만, 거짓 증인은 거짓말을 한다.
18 There is one who speaks rashly like the piercing of a sword, but the tongue of the wise heals.There is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword; But the tongue of the wise is health.칼로 찌르듯 함부로 말하는 사람이 있지만, 지혜로운 사람의 혀는 사람을 낫게 한다.
19 Truth’s lips will be established forever, but a lying tongue is only momentary.The lip of truth shall be established for ever; But a lying tongue is but for a moment.진실한 입술은 영원히 굳게 서지만, 거짓된 혀는 잠깐뿐이다.
20 Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but joy comes to the promoters of peace.Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; But to the counsellors of peace is joy.악을 꾸미는 사람의 마음에는 속임수가 있지만, 화평을 도모하는 사람에게는 기쁨이 온다.
21 No mischief shall happen to the righteous, but the wicked shall be filled with evil.There shall no mischief happen to the righteous; But the wicked shall be filled with evil.의인에게는 어떤 재앙도 임하지 않지만, 악인은 재앙으로 가득 차게 된다.
22 Lying lips are an abomination to Yahweh, but those who do the truth are his delight.Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; But they that deal truly are his delight.거짓된 입술은 여호와께서 미워하시는 것이지만, 진실을 행하는 사람은 그분이 기뻐하시는 자다.
23 A prudent man keeps his knowledge, but the hearts of fools proclaim foolishness.A prudent man concealeth knowledge; But the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.슬기로운 사람은 자기 지식을 간직하지만, 미련한 자의 마음은 어리석음을 떠벌린다.
24 The hands of the diligent ones shall rule, but laziness ends in slave labor.The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be put under taskwork.부지런한 사람의 손은 다스리게 되지만, 게으름은 종살이로 끝난다.
25 Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a kind word makes it glad.Heaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop; But a good word maketh it glad.사람의 마음에 있는 근심은 마음을 짓누르지만, 다정한 말 한마디는 마음을 기쁘게 한다.
26 A righteous person is cautious in friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray.The righteous is a guide to his neighbor; But the way of the wicked causeth them to err.의인은 사귐에 신중하지만, 악인의 길은 그들을 잘못된 곳으로 이끈다.
27 The slothful man doesn’t roast his game, but the possessions of diligent men are prized.The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting; But the precious substance of men is to the diligent.게으른 사람은 자기가 잡은 사냥감도 굽지 않지만, 부지런한 사람의 소유는 귀하게 여겨진다.
28 In the way of righteousness is life; in its path there is no death.In the way of righteousness is life; And in the pathway thereof there is no death.의의 길에는 생명이 있으니, 그 길에는 죽음이 없다.
