Proverbs 4장

1 Listen, sons, to a father’s instruction. Pay attention and know understanding;Hear, my sons, the instruction of a father, And attend to know understanding:아들들아, 아버지의 훈계를 들으라. 귀를 기울여 명철을 깨달으라.

2 for I give you sound learning. Don’t forsake my law.For I give you good doctrine; Forsake ye not my law.내가 너희에게 건전한 가르침을 주니, 나의 법을 저버리지 말아라.

3 For I was a son to my father, tender and an only child in the sight of my mother.For I was a son unto my father, Tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.나도 내 아버지에게 한 아들이었고, 내 어머니가 보기에 연약한 외아들이었다.

4 He taught me, and said to me: “Let your heart retain my words. Keep my commandments, and live.And he taught me, and said unto me: Let thy heart retain my words; Keep my commandments, and live;아버지가 나를 가르치며 이렇게 말씀하셨다. "네 마음이 내 말을 간직하게 하여라. 내 계명을 지키면 살리라.

5 Get wisdom. Get understanding. Don’t forget, and don’t deviate from the words of my mouth.Get wisdom, get understanding; Forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth;지혜를 얻고 명철을 얻어라. 내 입의 말을 잊지 말고 그것에서 벗어나지 말아라.

6 Don’t forsake her, and she will preserve you. Love her, and she will keep you.Forsake her not, and she will preserve thee; Love her, and she will keep thee.지혜를 저버리지 말아라. 그리하면 지혜가 너를 지켜 줄 것이다. 지혜를 사랑하여라. 그리하면 지혜가 너를 보호할 것이다.

7 Wisdom is supreme. Get wisdom. Yes, though it costs all your possessions, get understanding.Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom; Yea, with all thy getting get understanding.지혜가 으뜸이다. 지혜를 얻어라. 네 모든 소유를 들여서라도 명철을 얻어라.

8 Esteem her, and she will exalt you. She will bring you to honor when you embrace her.Exalt her, and she will promote thee; She will bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her.지혜를 귀하게 여겨라. 그리하면 지혜가 너를 높이리라. 네가 지혜를 품으면 지혜가 너를 영예롭게 하리라.

9 She will give to your head a garland of grace. She will deliver a crown of splendor to you.”She will give to thy head a chaplet of grace; A crown of beauty will she deliver to thee.지혜가 네 머리에 은혜의 화관을 씌우고, 영광스러운 면류관을 네게 안겨 줄 것이다."

10 Listen, my son, and receive my sayings. The years of your life will be many.Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And the years of thy life shall be many.내 아들아, 들으라. 내 말을 받아들이면, 네 인생의 햇수가 많아질 것이다.

11 I have taught you in the way of wisdom. I have led you in straight paths.I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in paths of uprightness.내가 너를 지혜의 길로 가르쳤고, 곧은 길로 인도하였다.

12 When you go, your steps will not be hampered. When you run, you will not stumble.When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; And if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.네가 걸어갈 때에 네 걸음이 막히지 않을 것이며, 달려갈 때에도 넘어지지 않을 것이다.

13 Take firm hold of instruction. Don’t let her go. Keep her, for she is your life.Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: Keep her; for she is thy life.훈계를 굳게 붙잡고 놓치지 말아라. 그것을 지켜라. 그것이 네 생명이다.

14 Don’t enter into the path of the wicked. Don’t walk in the way of evil men.Enter not into the path of the wicked, And walk not in the way of evil men.악인의 길에 들어서지 말고, 악한 자들의 길로 걷지 말아라.

15 Avoid it, and don’t pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on.Avoid it, pass not by it; Turn from it, and pass on.그 길을 피하고 지나가지 말아라. 거기서 돌이켜 떠나가라.

16 For they don’t sleep unless they do evil. Their sleep is taken away, unless they make someone fall.For they sleep not, except they do evil; And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.그들은 악을 행하지 않고는 잠을 자지 못하며, 누군가를 넘어뜨리지 않고는 잠이 오지 않는 자들이다.

17 For they eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence.For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.그들은 악의 빵을 먹고, 폭력의 포도주를 마시기 때문이다.

18 But the path of the righteous is like the dawning light that shines more and more until the perfect day.But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.그러나 의인의 길은 동트는 빛과 같아서, 완전한 대낮에 이르기까지 점점 더 밝게 빛난다.

19 The way of the wicked is like darkness. They don’t know what they stumble over.The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.악인의 길은 어둠과 같아서, 그들은 무엇에 걸려 넘어지는지조차 알지 못한다.

20 My son, attend to my words. Turn your ear to my sayings.My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear unto my sayings.내 아들아, 내 말에 주의를 기울이고, 내 말에 네 귀를 기울여라.

21 Let them not depart from your eyes. Keep them in the center of your heart.Let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep them in the midst of thy heart.그것을 네 눈에서 떠나지 않게 하고, 네 마음 깊은 곳에 간직하여라.

22 For they are life to those who find them, and health to their whole body.For they are life unto those that find them, And health to all their flesh.그것은 그것을 찾는 자에게 생명이 되고, 그의 온몸에 건강이 되기 때문이다.

23 Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it is the wellspring of life.Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.무엇보다도 네 마음을 지켜라. 생명의 샘이 그 마음에서 흘러나오기 때문이다.

24 Put away from yourself a perverse mouth. Put corrupt lips far from you.Put away from thee a wayward mouth, And perverse lips put far from thee.비뚤어진 입을 네게서 버리고, 더러운 입술을 멀리하여라.

25 Let your eyes look straight ahead. Fix your gaze directly before you.Let thine eyes look right on, And let thine eyelids look straight before thee.네 눈은 똑바로 앞을 바라보고, 네 시선을 곧장 앞에 두어라.

26 Make the path of your feet level. Let all of your ways be established.Make level the path of thy feet, And let all thy ways be established.네 발이 디딜 길을 평탄하게 하고, 네 모든 길을 굳게 세워라.

27 Don’t turn to the right hand nor to the left. Remove your foot from evil.Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: Remove thy foot from evil.오른쪽으로도 왼쪽으로도 치우치지 말고, 네 발을 악에서 멀리하여라.
