Proverbs 16장

1 The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from Yahweh.The plans of the heart belong to man; But the answer of the tongue is from Jehovah.마음으로 계획을 세우는 것은 사람의 몫이지만, 혀로 그 대답을 주시는 분은 여호와이시다.

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the motives.All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; But Jehovah weigheth the spirits.사람의 모든 길이 자기 눈에는 깨끗해 보이지만, 여호와께서는 그 동기를 저울에 다신다.

3 Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed.Commit thy works unto Jehovah, And thy purposes shall be established.네가 하는 일을 여호와께 맡겨라. 그리하면 네 계획이 이루어질 것이다.

4 Yahweh has made everything for its own end— yes, even the wicked for the day of evil.Jehovah hath made everything for its own end; Yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.여호와께서는 모든 것을 저마다 정해진 목적에 맞게 지으셨으니, 악인까지도 재앙의 날을 위해 지으셨다.

5 Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to Yahweh; they shall certainly not be unpunished.Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to Jehovah: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.마음이 교만한 사람은 누구든지 여호와께서 미워하시는 대상이니, 그런 사람은 반드시 벌을 면치 못할 것이다.

6 By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for. By the fear of Yahweh men depart from evil.By mercy and truth iniquity is atoned for; And by the fear of Jehovah men depart from evil.긍휼과 진실로 죄악이 속하여지고, 여호와를 경외함으로 사람은 악에서 떠난다.

7 When a man’s ways please Yahweh, he makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.When a man’s ways please Jehovah, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.사람의 길이 여호와를 기쁘시게 하면, 여호와께서는 그의 원수들까지도 그와 화목하게 하신다.

8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great revenues with injustice.Better is a little, with righteousness, Than great revenues with injustice.의를 지키며 가진 것이 적은 편이, 불의로 얻은 많은 수입보다 낫다.

9 A man’s heart plans his course, but Yahweh directs his steps.A man’s heart deviseth his way; But Jehovah directeth his steps.사람은 마음으로 자기 길을 계획하지만, 그 걸음을 인도하시는 분은 여호와이시다.

10 Inspired judgments are on the lips of the king. He shall not betray his mouth.A divine sentence is in the lips of the king; His mouth shall not transgress in judgment.왕의 입술에는 하나님께서 주신 판결이 있으니, 그 입은 재판에서 그르치지 않는다.

11 Honest balances and scales are Yahweh’s; all the weights in the bag are his work.A just balance and scales are Jehovah’s; All the weights of the bag are his work.정직한 저울과 천칭은 여호와의 것이며, 주머니 속의 모든 추도 그분이 지으신 것이다.

12 It is an abomination for kings to do wrong, for the throne is established by righteousness.It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; For the throne is established by righteousness.악을 행하는 것은 왕들에게 미움받을 일이니, 보좌는 의로움으로 굳게 서기 때문이다.

13 Righteous lips are the delight of kings. They value one who speaks the truth.Righteous lips are the delight of kings; And they love him that speaketh right.의로운 입술은 왕들의 기쁨이니, 그들은 진실을 말하는 자를 귀히 여긴다.

14 The king’s wrath is a messenger of death, but a wise man will pacify it.The wrath of a king is as messengers of death; But a wise man will pacify it.왕의 진노는 죽음을 전하는 사자와 같으나, 지혜로운 사람은 그 진노를 가라앉힌다.

15 In the light of the king’s face is life. His favor is like a cloud of the spring rain.In the light of the king’s countenance is life; And his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.왕의 밝은 얼굴에는 생명이 있으니, 그의 은총은 봄비를 머금은 구름과 같다.

16 How much better it is to get wisdom than gold! Yes, to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! Yea, to get understanding is rather to be chosen than silver.지혜를 얻는 것이 금을 얻는 것보다 얼마나 더 나은가! 명철을 얻는 것이 은을 얻는 것보다 더 가려 택할 일이다.

17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil. He who keeps his way preserves his soul.The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: He that keepeth his way preserveth his soul.정직한 사람의 큰길은 악에서 떠나는 것이니, 자기 길을 지키는 사람은 자기 영혼을 보전한다.

18 Pride goes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall.Pride goeth before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.교만은 멸망에 앞서고, 거만한 마음은 넘어짐에 앞선다.

19 It is better to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, than to divide the plunder with the proud.Better it is to be of a lowly spirit with the poor, Than to divide the spoil with the proud.겸손한 마음으로 가난한 사람들과 함께하는 것이, 교만한 자들과 함께 노략물을 나누는 것보다 낫다.

20 He who heeds the Word finds prosperity. Whoever trusts in Yahweh is blessed.He that giveth heed unto the word shall find good; And whoso trusteth in Jehovah, happy is he.말씀에 귀 기울이는 사람은 형통함을 얻고, 여호와를 신뢰하는 사람은 복이 있다.

21 The wise in heart shall be called prudent. Pleasantness of the lips promotes instruction.The wise in heart shall be called prudent; And the sweetness of the lips increaseth learning.마음이 지혜로운 사람은 슬기롭다고 불리며, 입술이 부드러운 사람은 남에게 가르침을 잘 전한다.

22 Understanding is a fountain of life to one who has it, but the punishment of fools is their folly.Understanding is a well-spring of life unto him that hath it; But the correction of fools is their folly.명철은 그것을 가진 사람에게 생명의 샘이지만, 어리석은 자에게는 그 어리석음 자체가 벌이 된다.

23 The heart of the wise instructs his mouth, and adds learning to his lips.The heart of the wise instructeth his mouth, And addeth learning to his lips.지혜로운 사람의 마음은 그 입을 가르치고, 그 입술에 배움을 더해 준다.

24 Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.Pleasant words are as a honeycomb, Sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.다정한 말은 벌집의 꿀과 같아서, 영혼에 달고 뼈에 건강이 된다.

25 There is a way which seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, But the end thereof are the ways of death.사람이 보기에 바른 듯한 길이 있으나, 그 끝은 죽음으로 이끄는 길이다.

26 The appetite of the laboring man labors for him, for his mouth urges him on.The appetite of the laboring man laboreth for him; For his mouth urgeth him thereto.일하는 사람의 식욕은 그를 위해 일하니, 그의 입이 그를 재촉하기 때문이다.

27 A worthless man devises mischief. His speech is like a scorching fire.A worthless man deviseth mischief; And in his lips there is as a scorching fire.쓸모없는 사람은 해악을 꾸미며, 그의 말은 태우는 불과 같다.

28 A perverse man stirs up strife. A whisperer separates close friends.A perverse man scattereth abroad strife; And a whisperer separateth chief friends.비뚤어진 사람은 다툼을 일으키고, 험담하는 사람은 가까운 친구 사이를 갈라놓는다.

29 A man of violence entices his neighbor, and leads him in a way that is not good.A man of violence enticeth his neighbor, And leadeth him in a way that is not good.폭력을 일삼는 사람은 자기 이웃을 꾀어, 좋지 못한 길로 이끈다.

30 One who winks his eyes to plot perversities, one who compresses his lips, is bent on evil.He that shutteth his eyes, it is to devise perverse things: He that compresseth his lips bringeth evil to pass.눈을 찡긋하는 사람은 패역한 일을 꾸미고, 입술을 꾹 다무는 사람은 악을 행하기로 작정한 자이다.

31 Gray hair is a crown of glory. It is attained by a life of righteousness.The hoary head is a crown of glory; It shall be found in the way of righteousness.백발은 영광의 면류관이니, 의로운 삶으로 얻는 것이다.

32 One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty; one who rules his spirit, than he who takes a city.He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; And he that ruleth his spirit, than he that taketh a city.노하기를 더디 하는 사람이 용사보다 낫고, 자기 마음을 다스리는 사람이 성을 빼앗는 사람보다 낫다.

33 The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from Yahweh.The lot is cast into the lap; But the whole disposing thereof is of Jehovah.제비는 사람의 품에 던져지지만, 그 모든 결정은 여호와께로부터 온다.
