Proverbs 21장

1 The king’s heart is in Yahweh’s hand like the watercourses. He turns it wherever he desires.The king’s heart is in the hand of Jehovah as the watercourses: He turneth it whithersoever he will.왕의 마음은 마치 물길과 같아서 여호와의 손안에 있으니, 그분은 그 마음을 원하시는 대로 어디든지 돌이키신다.

2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but Yahweh weighs the hearts.Every way of a man is right in his own eyes; But Jehovah weigheth the hearts.사람의 모든 길이 자기 눈에는 옳아 보이지만, 여호와께서는 그 마음을 저울에 다신다.

3 To do righteousness and justice is more acceptable to Yahweh than sacrifice.To do righteousness and justice Is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.의와 공의를 행하는 것이 제사를 드리는 것보다 여호와께 더 기쁘게 받아들여진다.

4 A high look and a proud heart, the lamp of the wicked, is sin.A high look, and a proud heart, Even the lamp of the wicked, is sin.거만한 눈과 교만한 마음, 곧 악인의 등불은 죄이다.

5 The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; But every one that is hasty hasteth only to want.부지런한 사람의 계획은 반드시 풍족함으로 이어지지만, 조급한 사람은 누구나 반드시 가난으로 치닫는다.

6 Getting treasures by a lying tongue is a fleeting vapor for those who seek death.The getting of treasures by a lying tongue Is a vapor driven to and fro by them that seek death.거짓된 혀로 재물을 모으는 것은 사라지는 안개와 같으니, 그것을 좇는 자는 죽음을 구하는 것이다.

7 The violence of the wicked will drive them away, because they refuse to do what is right.The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away, Because they refuse to do justice.악인의 폭력이 그들을 휩쓸어 가리니, 그들이 옳은 일 행하기를 거부하기 때문이다.

8 The way of the guilty is devious, but the conduct of the innocent is upright.The way of him that is laden with guilt is exceeding crooked; But as for the pure, his work is right.죄를 진 사람의 길은 비뚤어졌으나, 깨끗한 사람의 행실은 곧고 바르다.

9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop than to share a house with a contentious woman.It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, Than with a contentious woman in a wide house.다투기 좋아하는 여자와 한집에서 사는 것보다, 차라리 지붕 한 모퉁이에서 사는 것이 더 낫다.

10 The soul of the wicked desires evil; his neighbor finds no mercy in his eyes.The soul of the wicked desireth evil: His neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.악인의 마음은 악을 탐하니, 그의 눈에는 이웃을 향한 긍휼이 없다.

11 When the mocker is punished, the simple gains wisdom. When the wise is instructed, he receives knowledge.When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise; And when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.거만한 자가 벌을 받으면 어리석은 사람이 지혜를 얻고, 지혜로운 사람이 가르침을 받으면 지식을 얻는다.

12 The Righteous One considers the house of the wicked, and brings the wicked to ruin.The righteous man considereth the house of the wicked, How the wicked are overthrown to their ruin.의로우신 분께서는 악인의 집을 살피시고, 악인을 파멸로 이끄신다.

13 Whoever stops his ears at the cry of the poor, he will also cry out, but shall not be heard.Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor, He also shall cry, but shall not be heard.가난한 사람의 부르짖음에 귀를 막는 사람은, 자기도 부르짖을 때에 응답받지 못할 것이다.

14 A gift in secret pacifies anger, and a bribe in the cloak, strong wrath.A gift in secret pacifieth anger; And a present in the bosom, strong wrath.은밀히 주는 선물은 노여움을 가라앉히고, 품속에 감춘 뇌물은 거센 분노를 잠재운다.

15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice; but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.It is joy to the righteous to do justice; But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.의를 행하는 것은 의인에게는 기쁨이지만, 악을 행하는 자들에게는 파멸이다.

16 The man who wanders out of the way of understanding shall rest in the assembly of the departed spirits.The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding Shall rest in the assembly of the dead.깨달음의 길에서 벗어나 헤매는 사람은 죽은 자들의 무리 가운데 머물게 된다.

17 He who loves pleasure will be a poor man. He who loves wine and oil won’t be rich.He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.쾌락을 사랑하는 사람은 가난해지고, 포도주와 기름을 사랑하는 사람은 부유해지지 못한다.

18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous, the treacherous for the upright.The wicked is a ransom for the righteous; And the treacherous cometh in the stead of the upright.악인은 의인을 위한 속전이 되고, 배신자는 정직한 사람을 대신한다.

19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a contentious and fretful woman.It is better to dwell in a desert land, Than with a contentious and fretful woman.다투기 좋아하고 짜증 잘 내는 여자와 사는 것보다, 차라리 광야에서 사는 것이 더 낫다.

20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise, but a foolish man swallows it up.There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; But a foolish man swalloweth it up.지혜로운 사람의 집에는 귀한 보물과 기름이 있으나, 어리석은 사람은 그것을 다 삼켜 버린다.

21 He who follows after righteousness and kindness finds life, righteousness, and honor.He that followeth after righteousness and kindness Findeth life, righteousness, and honor.의와 인자를 좇는 사람은 생명과 의와 영예를 얻는다.

22 A wise man scales the city of the mighty, and brings down the strength of its confidence.A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, And bringeth down the strength of the confidence thereof.지혜로운 사람은 용사들의 성을 공략하여, 그들이 믿고 의지하던 견고한 요새를 무너뜨린다.

23 Whoever guards his mouth and his tongue keeps his soul from troubles.Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue Keepeth his soul from troubles.자기 입과 혀를 지키는 사람은 자기 영혼을 환난에서 지킨다.

24 The proud and arrogant man—“Scoffer” is his name — he works in the arrogance of pride.The proud and haughty man, scoffer is his name; He worketh in the arrogance of pride.교만하고 거만한 사람은 그 이름이 "조롱하는 자"이니, 그는 넘치는 교만으로 행동한다.

25 The desire of the sluggard kills him, for his hands refuse to labor.The desire of the sluggard killeth him; For his hands refuse to labor.게으른 사람은 자기 욕심에 죽임을 당하니, 그의 손이 일하기를 거부하기 때문이다.

26 There are those who covet greedily all day long; but the righteous give and don’t withhold.There is that coveteth greedily all the day long; But the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.온종일 탐욕스럽게 욕심을 부리는 사람들이 있으나, 의인은 아낌없이 베풀고 주기를 마다하지 않는다.

27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination — how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind!The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; How much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind!악인의 제사는 가증한 것인데, 하물며 악한 마음을 품고 드리는 것이야 얼마나 더하겠는가!

28 A false witness will perish. A man who listens speaks to eternity.A false witness shall perish; But the man that heareth shall speak so as to endure.거짓 증인은 망하지만, 귀 기울여 듣는 사람의 말은 영원히 남는다.

29 A wicked man hardens his face; but as for the upright, he establishes his ways.A wicked man hardeneth his face; But as for the upright, he establisheth his ways.악한 사람은 자기 얼굴을 뻔뻔하게 굳히지만, 정직한 사람은 자기 길을 바르게 세운다.

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against Yahweh.There is no wisdom nor understanding Nor counsel against Jehovah.여호와를 대적하는 지혜도, 명철도, 계략도 없다.

31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but victory is with Yahweh.The horse is prepared against the day of battle; But victory is of Jehovah.싸우는 날을 위하여 말을 준비하지만, 승리는 여호와께 있다.
