Proverbs 19장

1 Better is the poor who walks in his integrity than he who is perverse in his lips and is a fool.Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity Than he that is perverse in his lips and is a fool.입술이 비뚤어진 어리석은 사람보다, 가난해도 흠 없이 사는 사람이 더 낫다.

2 It isn’t good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty with one’s feet and miss the way.Also, that the soul be without knowledge is not good; And he that hasteth with his feet sinneth.지식 없는 열심은 좋지 못하고, 발걸음을 서두르는 사람은 길을 잃는다.

3 The foolishness of man subverts his way; his heart rages against Yahweh.The foolishness of man subverteth his way; And his heart fretteth against Jehovah.사람은 자기 어리석음으로 제 길을 망쳐 놓고서는, 마음으로 여호와를 향해 분노한다.

4 Wealth adds many friends, but the poor is separated from his friend.Wealth addeth many friends; But the poor is separated from his friend.재물은 친구를 많게 하지만, 가난한 사람은 그 친구에게서도 버림받는다.

5 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who pours out lies shall not go free.A false witness shall not be unpunished; And he that uttereth lies shall not escape.거짓 증인은 벌을 면하지 못하고, 거짓말을 쏟아 내는 사람은 빠져나가지 못한다.

6 Many will entreat the favor of a ruler, and everyone is a friend to a man who gives gifts.Many will entreat the favor of the liberal man; And every man is a friend to him that giveth gifts.너그러운 사람에게는 많은 이가 호의를 구하고, 선물을 베푸는 사람에게는 누구나 친구가 된다.

7 All the relatives of the poor shun him; how much more do his friends avoid him! He pursues them with pleas, but they are gone.All the brethren of the poor do hate him: How much more do his friends go far from him! He pursueth them with words, but they are gone.가난한 사람은 그 형제들에게도 미움을 받는데, 하물며 친구들이야 얼마나 더 멀리하겠는가! 그가 말로 붙들려 해도 그들은 이미 떠나 버린다.

8 He who gets wisdom loves his own soul. He who keeps understanding shall find good.He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: He that keepeth understanding shall find good.지혜를 얻는 사람은 자기 영혼을 사랑하고, 명철을 지키는 사람은 복을 얻는다.

9 A false witness shall not be unpunished. He who utters lies shall perish.A false witness shall not be unpunished; And he that uttereth lies shall perish.거짓 증인은 벌을 면하지 못하고, 거짓말을 내뱉는 사람은 망한다.

10 Delicate living is not appropriate for a fool, much less for a servant to have rule over princes.Delicate living is not seemly for a fool; Much less for a servant to have rule over princes.호화로운 생활은 어리석은 사람에게 어울리지 않으며, 종이 통치자들을 다스리는 것은 더더욱 그러하다.

11 The discretion of a man makes him slow to anger. It is his glory to overlook an offense.The discretion of a man maketh him slow to anger; And it is his glory to pass over a transgression.사람의 분별력은 그를 더디 노하게 하니, 허물을 덮어 주는 것이 그의 영광이다.

12 The king’s wrath is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion; But his favor is as dew upon the grass.왕의 진노는 사자의 울부짖음 같고, 그의 은혜는 풀밭에 내리는 이슬 같다.

13 A foolish son is the calamity of his father. A wife’s quarrels are a continual dripping.A foolish son is the calamity of his father; And the contentions of a wife are a continual dropping.어리석은 아들은 그 아버지의 재앙이요, 다투는 아내는 끊임없이 떨어지는 물방울과 같다.

14 House and riches are an inheritance from fathers, but a prudent wife is from Yahweh.House and riches are an inheritance from fathers; But a prudent wife is from Jehovah.집과 재물은 조상에게서 물려받는 유산이지만, 슬기로운 아내는 여호와께로부터 온다.

15 Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep. The idle soul shall suffer hunger.Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; And the idle soul shall suffer hunger.게으름은 사람을 깊은 잠에 빠뜨리고, 나태한 사람은 굶주리게 된다.

16 He who keeps the commandment keeps his soul, but he who is contemptuous in his ways shall die.He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his soul; But he that is careless of his ways shall die.계명을 지키는 사람은 자기 영혼을 지키지만, 자기 길을 함부로 여기는 사람은 죽는다.

17 He who has pity on the poor lends to Yahweh; he will reward him.He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto Jehovah, And his good deed will he pay him again.가난한 사람을 불쌍히 여기는 것은 여호와께 꾸어 드리는 것이니, 그분께서 갚아 주신다.

18 Discipline your son, for there is hope; don’t be a willing party to his death.Chasten thy son, seeing there is hope; And set not thy heart on his destruction.아직 희망이 있을 때 네 아들을 훈계하되, 그를 죽음으로 내모는 자가 되지는 말아라.

19 A hot-tempered man must pay the penalty, for if you rescue him, you must do it again.A man of great wrath shall bear the penalty; For if thou deliver him, thou must do it yet again.성을 잘 내는 사람은 그 대가를 치러야 하니, 네가 그를 구해 주면 다시 또 그렇게 해야 한다.

20 Listen to counsel and receive instruction, that you may be wise in your latter end.Hear counsel, and receive instruction, That thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.충고를 듣고 훈계를 받아들여라. 그러면 네 나중이 지혜로울 것이다.

21 There are many plans in a man’s heart, but Yahweh’s counsel will prevail.There are many devices in a man’s heart; But the counsel of Jehovah, that shall stand.사람의 마음에는 많은 계획이 있어도, 여호와의 뜻만이 이루어진다.

22 That which makes a man to be desired is his kindness. A poor man is better than a liar.That which maketh a man to be desired is his kindness; And a poor man is better than a liar.사람에게서 바랄 만한 것은 그의 인자함이니, 가난한 사람이 거짓말하는 사람보다 낫다.

23 The fear of Yahweh leads to life, then contentment; he rests and will not be touched by trouble.The fear of Jehovah tendeth to life; And he that hath it shall abide satisfied; He shall not be visited with evil.여호와를 경외하는 것은 생명에 이르게 하니, 그런 사람은 만족하며 쉬고 재앙에 닿지 않는다.

24 The sluggard buries his hand in the dish; he will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish, And will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.게으른 사람은 접시에 손을 담그고도, 그 손을 입으로 가져가려 하지 않는다.

25 Flog a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; rebuke one who has understanding, and he will gain knowledge.Smite a scoffer, and the simple will learn prudence; And reprove one that hath understanding, and he will understand knowledge.거만한 사람을 매질하면 어수룩한 사람이 분별을 배우고, 명철한 사람을 꾸짖으면 그가 지식을 더 얻는다.

26 He who robs his father and drives away his mother is a son who causes shame and brings reproach.He that doeth violence to his father, and chaseth away his mother, Is a son that causeth shame and bringeth reproach.아버지를 학대하고 어머니를 내쫓는 사람은, 수치를 끼치고 욕을 불러오는 아들이다.

27 If you stop listening to instruction, my son, you will stray from the words of knowledge.Cease, my son, to hear instruction Only to err from the words of knowledge.내 아들아, 네가 훈계 듣기를 그만두면 지식의 말씀에서 벗어나게 된다.

28 A corrupt witness mocks justice, and the mouth of the wicked gulps down iniquity.A worthless witness mocketh at justice; And the mouth of the wicked swalloweth iniquity.못된 증인은 공의를 비웃고, 악인의 입은 죄악을 삼킨다.

29 Penalties are prepared for scoffers, and beatings for the backs of fools.Judgments are prepared for scoffers, And stripes for the back of fools.거만한 사람에게는 형벌이 예비되어 있고, 어리석은 사람의 등에는 매가 예비되어 있다.
