1 The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father; but a foolish son brings grief to his mother.The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.솔로몬의 잠언이다. 지혜로운 아들은 아버지를 기쁘게 하지만, 미련한 아들은 어머니에게 근심거리가 된다.
2 Treasures of wickedness profit nothing, but righteousness delivers from death.Treasures of wickedness profit nothing; But righteousness delivereth from death.악하게 모은 재물은 아무 유익이 없지만, 의는 죽음에서 건져 낸다.
3 Yahweh will not allow the soul of the righteous to go hungry, but he thrusts away the desire of the wicked.Jehovah will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish; But he thrusteth away the desire of the wicked.여호와께서는 의인의 영혼을 굶주리게 두지 않으시지만, 악인의 욕심은 물리치신다.
4 He becomes poor who works with a lazy hand, but the hand of the diligent brings wealth.He becometh poor that worketh with a slack hand; But the hand of the diligent maketh rich.게으른 손으로 일하는 사람은 가난해지지만, 부지런한 손은 부유함을 가져온다.
5 He who gathers in summer is a wise son, but he who sleeps during the harvest is a son who causes shame.He that gathereth in summer is a wise son; But he that sleepeth in harvest is a son that causeth shame.여름에 거두어들이는 사람은 지혜로운 아들이지만, 추수 때에 잠자는 사람은 부끄러움을 끼치는 아들이다.
6 Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.Blessings are upon the head of the righteous; But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.의인의 머리에는 복이 임하지만, 악인의 입은 폭력을 감춘다.
7 The memory of the righteous is blessed, but the name of the wicked will rot.The memory of the righteous is blessed; But the name of the wicked shall rot.의인을 기억함은 복되지만, 악인의 이름은 썩어 없어진다.
8 The wise in heart accept commandments, but a chattering fool will fall.The wise in heart will receive commandments; But a prating fool shall fall.마음이 지혜로운 사람은 계명을 받아들이지만, 떠벌리는 미련한 자는 넘어진다.
9 He who walks blamelessly walks surely, but he who perverts his ways will be found out.He that walketh uprightly walketh surely; But he that perverteth his ways shall be known.흠 없이 걷는 사람은 안전하게 걷지만, 자기 길을 굽게 하는 사람은 드러나고 만다.
10 One who winks with the eye causes sorrow, but a chattering fool will fall.He that winketh with the eye causeth sorrow; But a prating fool shall fall.눈을 깜빡이며 술수를 부리는 사람은 근심을 일으키고, 떠벌리는 미련한 자는 넘어진다.
11 The mouth of the righteous is a spring of life, but violence covers the mouth of the wicked.The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life; But violence covereth the mouth of the wicked.의인의 입은 생명의 샘이지만, 악인의 입은 폭력을 감춘다.
12 Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all wrongs.Hatred stirreth up strifes; But love covereth all transgressions.미움은 다툼을 일으키지만, 사랑은 모든 허물을 덮는다.
13 Wisdom is found on the lips of him who has discernment, but a rod is for the back of him who is void of understanding.In the lips of him that hath discernment wisdom is found; But a rod is for the back of him that is void of understanding.명철한 사람의 입술에는 지혜가 있지만, 지각이 없는 사람의 등에는 매가 있다.
14 Wise men lay up knowledge, but the mouth of the foolish is near ruin.Wise men lay up knowledge; But the mouth of the foolish is a present destruction.지혜로운 사람은 지식을 쌓아 두지만, 미련한 자의 입은 패망에 가깝다.
15 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. The destruction of the poor is their poverty.The rich man’s wealth is his strong city: The destruction of the poor is their poverty.부자의 재물은 그의 견고한 성이지만, 가난한 자의 멸망은 그들의 가난이다.
16 The labor of the righteous leads to life. The increase of the wicked leads to sin.The labor of the righteous tendeth to life; The increase of the wicked, to sin.의인의 수고는 생명으로 이어지지만, 악인의 소득은 죄로 이어진다.
17 He is in the way of life who heeds correction, but he who forsakes reproof leads others astray.He is in the way of life that heedeth correction; But he that forsaketh reproof erreth.훈계를 받아들이는 사람은 생명의 길에 있지만, 책망을 저버리는 사람은 다른 이들을 잘못된 길로 이끈다.
18 He who hides hatred has lying lips. He who utters a slander is a fool.He that hideth hatred is of lying lips; And he that uttereth a slander is a fool.미움을 감추는 사람은 거짓된 입술을 가진 자이고, 중상모략을 내뱉는 사람은 미련한 자다.
19 In the multitude of words there is no lack of disobedience, but he who restrains his lips does wisely.In the multitude of words there wanteth not transgression; But he that refraineth his lips doeth wisely.말이 많으면 허물을 면하기 어렵지만, 입술을 조심하는 사람은 지혜롭게 행한다.
20 The tongue of the righteous is like choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth.The tongue of the righteous is as choice silver: The heart of the wicked is little worth.의인의 혀는 순은과 같지만, 악인의 마음은 가치가 거의 없다.
21 The lips of the righteous feed many, but the foolish die for lack of understanding.The lips of the righteous feed many; But the foolish die for lack of understanding.의인의 입술은 많은 사람을 먹이지만, 미련한 자는 지각이 없어 죽는다.
22 Yahweh’s blessing brings wealth, and he adds no trouble to it.The blessing of Jehovah, it maketh rich; And he addeth no sorrow therewith.여호와의 복이 부유함을 가져오시니, 거기에 근심을 더하지 않으신다.
23 It is a fool’s pleasure to do wickedness, but wisdom is a man of understanding’s pleasure.It is as sport to a fool to do wickedness; And so is wisdom to a man of understanding.미련한 자는 악을 행하는 것을 즐거움으로 삼지만, 명철한 사람은 지혜를 즐거움으로 삼는다.
24 What the wicked fear will overtake them, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him; And the desire of the righteous shall be granted.악인은 두려워하던 것이 그에게 닥치지만, 의인은 원하는 것이 이루어진다.
25 When the whirlwind passes, the wicked is no more; but the righteous stand firm forever.When the whirlwind passeth, the wicked is no more; But the righteous is an everlasting foundation.회오리바람이 지나가면 악인은 사라지지만, 의인은 영원히 굳게 선다.
26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who send him.As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, So is the sluggard to them that send him.게으른 자는 그를 보내는 사람에게 이에 닿는 식초 같고 눈에 들어가는 연기와 같다.
27 The fear of Yahweh prolongs days, but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.The fear of Jehovah prolongeth days; But the years of the wicked shall be shortened.여호와를 경외하면 수명이 길어지지만, 악인의 햇수는 짧아진다.
28 The prospect of the righteous is joy, but the hope of the wicked will perish.The hope of the righteous shall be gladness; But the expectation of the wicked shall perish.의인의 소망은 기쁨이 되지만, 악인의 기대는 사라지고 만다.
29 The way of Yahweh is a stronghold to the upright, but it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.The way of Jehovah is a stronghold to the upright; But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.여호와의 길은 정직한 사람에게는 견고한 요새지만, 죄악을 행하는 자에게는 멸망이다.
30 The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land.The righteous shall never be removed; But the wicked shall not dwell in the land.의인은 결코 흔들리지 않지만, 악인은 그 땅에 머물지 못한다.
31 The mouth of the righteous produces wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off.The mouth of the righteous bringeth forth wisdom; But the perverse tongue shall be cut off.의인의 입은 지혜를 내지만, 거짓된 혀는 잘려 나간다.
32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable, but the mouth of the wicked is perverse.The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable; But the mouth of the wicked speaketh perverseness.의인의 입술은 무엇이 합당한지 알지만, 악인의 입은 거짓을 말한다.
