2 The Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines killed Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malchishua, the sons of Saul.And the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.블레셋 사람들이 사울과 그의 아들들을 바짝 뒤쫓아, 사울의 아들 요나단과 아비나답과 말기수아를 죽였다.
3 The battle went hard against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.사울을 향한 싸움이 거세지더니, 활 쏘는 자들이 그를 따라잡았고 그는 그 궁수들 때문에 큰 곤경에 빠졌다.
4 Then Saul said to his armor bearer, “ Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armor bearer would not, for he was terrified. Therefore Saul took his sword and fell on it.Then said Saul unto his armor-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.그때 사울이 자기 무기 든 병사에게 말했다. "네 칼을 뽑아 나를 찔러라. 이 할례받지 않은 자들이 와서 나를 욕보이지 못하게 하라." 그러나 무기 든 병사는 너무 두려워 그렇게 하지 못했다. 그래서 사울은 자기 칼을 잡고 그 위에 엎어졌다.
5 When his armor bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell on his sword and died.And when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.무기 든 병사는 사울이 죽은 것을 보고, 자기도 자기 칼 위에 엎어져 죽었다.
6 So Saul died with his three sons; and all his house died together.So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.이렇게 사울과 그의 세 아들이 죽었고, 그의 온 집안이 함께 죽었다.
7 When all the men of Israel who were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they abandoned their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and lived in them.And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.골짜기에 있던 이스라엘 사람들이 모두 자기들이 도망친 것과 사울과 그의 아들들이 죽은 것을 보고, 자기들의 성읍을 버리고 도망쳤다. 그러자 블레셋 사람들이 와서 그곳에 들어가 살았다.
8 On the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, they found Saul and his sons fallen on Mount Gilboa.And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.이튿날 블레셋 사람들이 죽은 자들의 물건을 벗기러 왔다가, 사울과 그의 아들들이 길보아 산에 쓰러져 있는 것을 발견했다.
9 They stripped him and took his head and his armor, then sent into the land of the Philistines all around to carry the news to their idols and to the people.And they stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people.그들은 사울의 옷을 벗기고 그의 머리와 갑옷을 취하여, 블레셋 사람들의 온 땅에 두루 사람을 보내 자기들의 우상과 백성에게 그 소식을 전했다.

13 So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Yahweh, because of Yahweh’s word, which he didn’t keep, and also because he asked counsel of one who had a familiar spirit, to inquire,So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire thereby,이렇게 사울은 여호와께 지은 죄 때문에 죽었다. 그는 여호와의 말씀을 지키지 않았고, 또한 신접한 자를 찾아가 물어보았으며,
14 and didn’t inquire of Yahweh. Therefore he killed him, and turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.and inquired not of Jehovah: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.여호와께는 묻지 않았다. 그러므로 여호와께서 그를 죽이시고 나라를 이새의 아들 다윗에게 넘기셨다.
