1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judæa in the days of Herod the king, behold, Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,헤롯 왕 때에 예수께서 유대 베들레헴에서 태어나셨는데, 보라, 동방에서 박사들이 예루살렘에 와서 말하였다.
2 “ Where is he who is born King of the Jews? For we saw his star in the east, and have come to worship him.”Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him."유대인의 왕으로 태어나신 분이 어디 계십니까? 우리가 동방에서 그분의 별을 보고 그분께 경배하러 왔습니다."
3 When King Herod heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.헤롯 왕이 이 말을 듣고 불안해하였고, 온 예루살렘도 그와 함께 동요하였다.
4 Gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he asked them where the Christ would be born.And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.그가 백성의 대제사장들과 율법학자들을 모두 모아 놓고, 그리스도가 어디에서 태어날 것인지 그들에게 물었다.
5 They said to him, “ In Bethlehem of Judea, for this is written through the prophet,And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judæa: for thus it is written through the prophet,그들이 그에게 말하였다. "유대 베들레헴입니다. 선지자를 통하여 이렇게 기록되어 있기 때문입니다.
6 ‘ You Bethlehem, land of Judah, are in no way least among the princes of Judah; for out of you shall come a governor who shall shepherd my people, Israel.’”And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.'너 유다 땅 베들레헴아, 너는 유다의 통치자들 가운데 결코 가장 작지 않다. 너에게서 한 다스리는 이가 나와서, 내 백성 이스라엘을 목자처럼 이끌 것이다.'"
7 Then Herod secretly called the wise men, and learned from them exactly what time the star appeared.Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared.그때 헤롯이 박사들을 은밀히 불러서, 별이 나타난 때를 그들에게 정확히 알아내었다.
8 He sent them to Bethlehem, and said, “ Go and search diligently for the young child. When you have found him, bring me word, so that I also may come and worship him.”And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when ye have found him, bring me word, that I also may come and worship him.그가 그들을 베들레헴으로 보내며 말하였다. "가서 그 아기에 대하여 자세히 찾아보고, 찾거든 나에게도 알려 주시오. 나도 가서 그에게 경배하려 하오."
9 They, having heard the king, went their way; and behold, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them until it came and stood over where the young child was.And they, having heard the king, went their way; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.그들은 왕의 말을 듣고 길을 떠났는데, 보라, 동방에서 보았던 그 별이 그들 앞서 가다가, 아기가 있는 곳 위에 이르러 멈추어 섰다.
10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.그들은 그 별을 보고 매우 크게 기뻐하였다.
11 They came into the house and saw the young child with Mary, his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Opening their treasures, they offered to him gifts: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother; and they fell down and worshipped him; and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.그들이 집으로 들어가 아기와 그 어머니 마리아를 보고 엎드려 그에게 경배하였다. 그리고 자기들의 보물 상자를 열어 황금과 유향과 몰약을 예물로 그에게 드렸다.
12 Being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they went back to their own country another way.And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.그들은 헤롯에게 돌아가지 말라는 경고를 꿈에 받고, 다른 길로 자기 나라로 돌아갔다.
13 Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream, saying, “ Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and stay there until I tell you, for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.”Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.그들이 떠난 뒤에, 보라, 주의 천사가 요셉에게 꿈에 나타나 말하였다. "일어나 아기와 그 어머니를 데리고 이집트로 피하여, 내가 너에게 이를 때까지 거기 머물러 있어라. 헤롯이 아기를 찾아 죽이려 할 것이다."
14 He arose and took the young child and his mother by night and departed into Egypt,And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt;요셉이 일어나 밤에 아기와 그 어머니를 데리고 이집트로 떠나서,
15 and was there until the death of Herod, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, “ Out of Egypt I called my son.”and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son.헤롯이 죽을 때까지 거기 있었다. 이는 주께서 선지자를 통하여 하신 말씀, "내가 이집트에서 내 아들을 불러내었다" 하신 것을 이루려 하심이었다.
16 Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked by the wise men, was exceedingly angry, and sent out and killed all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all the surrounding countryside, from two years old and under, according to the exact time which he had learned from the wise men.Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the Wise-men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the Wise-men.그때 헤롯은 박사들에게 속은 것을 알고 몹시 노하여, 사람을 보내어 박사들에게 정확히 알아낸 때를 따라, 베들레헴과 그 모든 주변 지역에 있는 두 살 이하의 사내아이들을 다 죽였다.
17 Then that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet was fulfilled, saying,Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying,그때 선지자 예레미야를 통하여 하신 말씀이 이루어졌으니, 곧
18 “ A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; she wouldn’ t be comforted, because they are no more.”A voice was heard in Ramah, Weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; And she would not be comforted, because they are not."라마에서 한 소리가 들렸는데, 애통하며 슬피 울고 크게 통곡하는 소리였다. 라헬이 자기 자식들을 위하여 울며, 자식들이 없으므로 위로받기를 거절하였다" 한 것이다.
19 But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,헤롯이 죽은 뒤에, 보라, 주의 천사가 이집트에 있는 요셉에게 꿈에 나타나 말하였다.
20 “ Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel, for those who sought the young child’s life are dead.”Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead that sought the young child’s life."일어나 아기와 그 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 가거라. 아기의 목숨을 노리던 자들이 죽었다."
21 He arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.요셉이 일어나 아기와 그 어머니를 데리고 이스라엘 땅으로 들어갔다.
22 But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judea in the place of his father, Herod, he was afraid to go there. Being warned in a dream, he withdrew into the region of Galilee,But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judæa in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; and being warned of God in a dream, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee,그러나 그는 아켈라오가 자기 아버지 헤롯을 이어 유대를 다스린다는 말을 듣고 거기로 가기를 두려워하였다. 그러다가 꿈에 경고를 받고 갈릴리 지방으로 물러갔다.
23 and came and lived in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets that he will be called a Nazarene.and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.그리고 나사렛이라는 동네에 가서 살았다. 이는 선지자들을 통하여 하신 말씀, "그는 나사렛 사람이라 불릴 것이다" 한 것을 이루려 하심이었다.
