1 At that time, Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,At that season Herod the tetrarch heard the report concerning Jesus,그때에 분봉왕 헤롯이 예수에 관한 소문을 듣고
2 and said to his servants, “ This is John the Baptizer. He is risen from the dead. That is why these powers work in him.”and said unto his servants, This is John the Baptist; he is risen from the dead; and therefore do these powers work in him.신하들에게 말했다. "이 사람은 세례자 요한이다. 그가 죽은 사람들 가운데서 살아났다. 그래서 이런 능력이 그에게서 일어나는 것이다."
3 For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.For Herod had laid hold on John, and bound him, and put him in prison for the sake of Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife.헤롯은 자기 동생 빌립의 아내 헤로디아 때문에 요한을 붙잡아 묶어서 감옥에 가두었었다.
4 For John said to him, “ It is not lawful for you to have her.”For John said unto him, It is not lawful for thee to have her.요한이 그에게 "그 여자를 데리고 사는 것은 옳지 않습니다" 하고 말했기 때문이다.
5 When he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.And when he would have put him to death, he feared the multitude, because they counted him as a prophet.헤롯은 요한을 죽이려 했으나 무리를 두려워했다. 사람들이 요한을 선지자로 여겼기 때문이다.
6 But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced among them and pleased Herod.But when Herod’s birthday came, the daughter of Herodias danced in the midst, and pleased Herod.그런데 헤롯의 생일이 되자 헤로디아의 딸이 사람들 가운데서 춤을 추어 헤롯을 기쁘게 했다.
7 Therefore he promised with an oath to give her whatever she should ask.Whereupon he promised with an oath to give her whatsoever she should ask.그래서 헤롯은 그 딸에게 무엇이든 구하는 대로 주겠다고 맹세하며 약속했다.
8 She, being prompted by her mother, said, “ Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptizer.”And she, being put forward by her mother, saith, Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.딸은 자기 어머니가 시킨 대로 "세례자 요한의 머리를 쟁반에 담아 여기서 제게 주십시오" 하고 말했다.
9 The king was grieved, but for the sake of his oaths and of those who sat at the table with him, he commanded it to be given,And the king was grieved; but for the sake of his oaths, and of them that sat at meat with him, he commanded it to be given;왕은 마음이 괴로웠으나 자기가 한 맹세와 함께 자리에 앉은 사람들 때문에 그렇게 해 주라고 명령했다.
10 and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.and he sent and beheaded John in the prison.그러고는 사람을 보내 감옥에서 요한의 목을 베게 했다.
11 His head was brought on a platter and given to the young lady; and she brought it to her mother.And his head was brought on a platter, and given to the damsel: and she brought it to her mother.요한의 머리를 쟁반에 담아 가져다가 그 소녀에게 주니 소녀는 그것을 자기 어머니에게 가져갔다.
12 His disciples came, took the body, and buried it. Then they went and told Jesus.And his disciples came, and took up the corpse, and buried him; and they went and told Jesus.요한의 제자들이 와서 시신을 거두어 장사 지내고, 가서 예수께 알렸다.
13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place apart. When the multitudes heard it, they followed him on foot from the cities.Now when Jesus heard it, he withdrew from thence in a boat, to a desert place apart: and when the multitudes heard thereof, they followed him on foot from the cities.예수께서 이 소식을 들으시고 배를 타고 거기서 따로 외딴 곳으로 떠나가셨다. 무리가 이 소식을 듣고 여러 마을에서 걸어서 그분을 따라왔다.
14 Jesus went out, and he saw a great multitude. He had compassion on them and healed their sick.And he came forth, and saw a great multitude, and he had compassion on them, and healed their sick.예수께서 나오셔서 큰 무리를 보시고 그들을 불쌍히 여겨 그들 가운데 병든 사람들을 고쳐 주셨다.
15 When evening had come, his disciples came to him, saying, “ This place is deserted, and the hour is already late. Send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.”And when even was come, the disciples came to him, saying, The place is desert, and the time is already past; send the multitudes away, that they may go into the villages, and buy themselves food.저녁이 되자 제자들이 그분께 와서 말했다. "이곳은 외딴 곳이고 시간도 이미 늦었습니다. 무리를 보내 마을로 가서 스스로 먹을 것을 사 먹게 하십시오."
16 But Jesus said to them, “ They don’ t need to go away. You give them something to eat.”But Jesus said unto them, They have no need to go away; give ye them to eat.그러나 예수께서 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "그들이 갈 필요가 없다. 너희가 그들에게 먹을 것을 주어라."
17 They told him, “ We only have here five loaves and two fish.”And they say unto him, We have here but five loaves, and two fishes.제자들이 그분께 "여기 우리에게 있는 것은 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리뿐입니다" 하고 말했다.
18 He said, “ Bring them here to me.”And he said, Bring them hither to me.예수께서 "그것들을 이리로 가져오너라" 하고 말씀하셨다.
19 He commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, broke and gave the loaves to the disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitudes.And he commanded the multitudes to sit down on the grass; and he took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake and gave the loaves to the disciples, and the disciples to the multitudes.그분께서 무리에게 풀밭에 앉으라고 명하시고, 빵 다섯 개와 물고기 두 마리를 들고 하늘을 우러러 축복하신 뒤 빵을 떼어 제자들에게 주시니 제자들이 무리에게 나누어 주었다.
20 They all ate and were filled. They took up twelve baskets full of that which remained left over from the broken pieces.And they all ate, and were filled: and they took up that which remained over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full.모두가 먹고 배불렀다. 그리고 그들은 먹고 남은 조각을 열두 바구니 가득 거두었다.
21 Those who ate were about five thousand men, in addition to women and children.And they that did eat were about five thousand men, besides women and children.먹은 사람은 여자들과 아이들 외에 남자만 약 오천 명이었다.
22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go ahead of him to the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.And straightway he constrained the disciples to enter into the boat, and to go before him unto the other side, till he should send the multitudes away.곧바로 예수께서 제자들을 재촉해 배에 태워 자신보다 먼저 건너편으로 가게 하시고, 그동안 무리를 돌려보내셨다.
23 After he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain by himself to pray. When evening had come, he was there alone.And after he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into the mountain apart to pray: and when even was come, he was there alone.무리를 보내신 뒤에 예수께서는 따로 기도하시려고 산에 올라가셨다. 저녁이 되어도 그곳에 홀로 계셨다.
24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, distressed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.But the boat was now in the midst of the sea, distressed by the waves; for the wind was contrary.그때 배는 이미 바다 한가운데서 물결에 시달리고 있었으니, 바람이 거슬러 불었기 때문이다.
25 In the fourth watch of the night, Jesus came to them, walking on the sea.And in the fourth watch of the night he came unto them, walking upon the sea.밤 사경에 예수께서 바다 위를 걸어 그들에게 오셨다.
26 When the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “ It’s a ghost!” and they cried out for fear.And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a ghost; and they cried out for fear.제자들이 그분께서 바다 위를 걸어오시는 것을 보고 놀라 "유령이다!" 하며 무서워 소리를 질렀다.
27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Cheer up! It is I! Don’t be afraid.”But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.그러나 예수께서 곧바로 그들에게 말씀하셨다. "안심하여라! 나다! 두려워하지 마라."
28 Peter answered him and said, “ Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the waters.”And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee upon the waters.베드로가 그분께 대답해 말했다. "주님, 정말 주님이시면 저더러 물 위로 주님께 오라고 명하십시오."
29 He said, “ Come!” Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus.And he said, Come. And Peter went down from the boat, and walked upon the waters to come to Jesus.예수께서 "오너라!" 하고 말씀하셨다. 베드로가 배에서 내려 물 위를 걸어 예수께로 갔다.
30 But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “ Lord, save me!”But when he saw the wind, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, Lord, save me.그러나 거센 바람을 보고 무서워하여 물에 빠지기 시작하자 "주님, 저를 구해 주십시오!" 하고 소리쳤다.
31 Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “ You of little faith, why did you doubt?”And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and took hold of him, and saith unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?예수께서 곧바로 손을 내밀어 그를 붙잡으시고 말씀하셨다. "믿음이 적은 사람아, 왜 의심하였느냐?"
32 When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.And when they were gone up into the boat, the wind ceased.그들이 배에 올라타자 바람이 그쳤다.
33 Those who were in the boat came and worshiped him, saying, “ You are truly the Son of God!”And they that were in the boat worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.배에 있던 사람들이 와서 그분께 경배하며 "참으로 당신은 하나님의 아들이십니다!" 하고 말했다.
34 When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.And when they had crossed over, they came to the land, unto Gennesaret.그들이 건너편으로 건너가 게네사렛 땅에 이르렀다.
35 When the people of that place recognized him, they sent into all that surrounding region and brought to him all who were sick;And when the men of that place knew him, they sent into all that region round about, and brought unto him all that were sick;그곳 사람들이 예수를 알아보고 그 주변 온 지역에 사람을 보내 병든 사람들을 모두 그분께 데려왔다.
36 and they begged him that they might just touch the fringe of his garment. As many as touched it were made whole.and they besought him that they might only touch the border of his garment: and as many as touched were made whole.그리고 그분의 옷자락만이라도 만지게 해 달라고 간청했다. 그것을 만진 사람은 모두 다 나았다.
