After this, Absalom prepared a chariot and horses for himself, and fifty men to run before him.And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared him a chariot and horses, and fifty men to run before him.
Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate. When any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called to him, and said, “ What city are you from?” He said, “ Your servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.”And Absalom rose up early, and stood beside the way of the gate: and it was so, that, when any man had a suit which should come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called unto him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel.
Absalom said to him, “ Behold, your matters are good and right; but there is no man deputized by the king to hear you.”And Absalom said unto him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man deputed of the king to hear thee.
Absalom said moreover, “ Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any suit or cause might come to me, and I would do him justice!”Absalom said moreover, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who hath any suit or cause might come unto me, and I would do him justice!
It was so, that when any man came near to bow down to him, he stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and kissed him.And it was so, that, when any man came nigh to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took hold of him, and kissed him.
Absalom did this sort of thing to all Israel who came to the king for judgment. So Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel. And on this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment: so Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.
At the end of forty years, Absalom said to the king, “ Please let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed to Yahweh, in Hebron. And it came to pass at the end of forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto Jehovah, in Hebron.
For your servant vowed a vow while I stayed at Geshur in Syria, saying, ‘ If Yahweh shall indeed bring me again to Jerusalem, then I will serve Yahweh.’”For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If Jehovah shall indeed bring me again to Jerusalem, then I will serve Jehovah.
The king said to him, “ Go in peace.” So he arose and went to Hebron. And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.
But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “ As soon as you hear the sound of the trumpet, then you shall say, ‘Absalom is king in Hebron!’”But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom is king in Hebron.
Two hundred men went with Absalom out of Jerusalem, who were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they didn’t know anything. And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were invited, and went in their simplicity; and they knew not anything.
Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counselor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. The conspiracy was strong, for the people increased continually with Absalom. And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, even from Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. And the conspiracy was strong; for the people increased continually with Absalom.
A messenger came to David, saying, “ The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.”And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom.
David said to all his servants who were with him at Jerusalem, “ Arise! Let’s flee, or else none of us will escape from Absalom. Hurry to depart, lest he overtake us quickly and bring down evil on us, and strike the city with the edge of the sword.”And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for else none of us shall escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring down evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.
The king’s servants said to the king, “ Behold, your servants are ready to do whatever my lord the king chooses.”And the king’s servants said unto the king, Behold, thy servants are ready to do whatsoever my lord the king shall choose.
The king went out, and all his household after him. The king left ten women, who were concubines, to keep the house. And the king went forth, and all his household after him. And the king left ten women, that were concubines, to keep the house.
The king went out, and all the people after him; and they stayed in Beth Merhak. And the king went forth, and all the people after him; and they tarried in Beth-merhak.
All his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who came after him from Gath, passed on before the king. And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men that came after him from Gath, passed on before the king.
Then the king said to Ittai the Gittite, “ Why do you also go with us? Return, and stay with the king; for you are a foreigner and also an exile. Return to your own place. Then said the king to Ittai the Gittite, Wherefore goest thou also with us? return, and abide with the king: for thou art a foreigner, and also an exile; return to thine own place.
Whereas you came but yesterday, should I today make you go up and down with us, since I go where I may? Return, and take back your brothers. Mercy and truth be with you.”Whereas thou camest but yesterday, should I this day make thee go up and down with us, seeing I go whither I may? return thou, and take back thy brethren; mercy and truth be with thee.
Ittai answered the king and said, “ As Yahweh lives, and as my lord the king lives, surely in what place my lord the king is, whether for death or for life, your servant will be there also.”And Ittai answered the king, and said, As Jehovah liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether for death or for life, even there also will thy servant be.
David said to Ittai, “ Go and pass over.” Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones who were with him.And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him.
All the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over. The king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over toward the way of the wilderness. And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over: the king also himself passed over the brook Kidron, and all the people passed over, toward the way of the wilderness.
Behold, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down God’s ark; and Abiathar went up until all the people finished passing out of the city. And, lo, Zadok also came, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God; and they set down the ark of God; and Abiathar went up, until all the people had done passing out of the city.
The king said to Zadok, “Carry God’s ark back into the city. If I find favor in Yahweh’s eyes, he will bring me again, and show me both it and his habitation; And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favor in the eyes of Jehovah, he will bring me again, and show me both it, and his habitation:왕이 사독에게 말했다.
but if he says, ‘ I have no delight in you,’ behold, here I am. Let him do to me as seems good to him.”but if he say thus, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.
The king said also to Zadok the priest, “Aren’t you a seer? Return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz your son and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. The king said also unto Zadok the priest, Art thou not a seer? return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar.
Behold, I will stay at the fords of the wilderness until word comes from you to inform me.”See, I will tarry at the fords of the wilderness, until there come word from you to certify me.
Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried God’s ark to Jerusalem again; and they stayed there.Zadok therefore and Abiathar carried the ark of God again to Jerusalem: and they abode there.
David went up by the ascent of the Mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered and went barefoot. All the people who were with him each covered his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.And David went up by the ascent of the mount of Olives, and wept as he went up; and he had his head covered, and went barefoot: and all the people that were with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.
Someone told David, saying, “Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom.” David said, “ Yahweh, please turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.”And one told David, saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. And David said, O Jehovah, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness.
When David had come to the top, where God was worshiped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his tunic torn and earth on his head. And it came to pass, that, when David was come to the top of the ascent, where God was worshipped, behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head.
David said to him, “ If you pass on with me, then you will be a burden to me;And David said unto him, If thou passest on with me, then thou wilt be a burden unto me:다윗이 그에게 말했다.
but if you return to the city, and tell Absalom, ‘ I will be your servant, O king. As I have been your father’s servant in time past, so I will now be your servant; then you will defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.’but if thou return to the city, and say unto Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father’s servant in time past, so will I now be thy servant; then wilt thou defeat for me the counsel of Ahithophel.
Don’t you have Zadok and Abiathar the priests there with you? Therefore whatever you hear out of the king’s house, tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? therefore it shall be, that what thing soever thou shalt hear out of the king’s house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests.
Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son. Send to me everything that you shall hear by them.”Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz, Zadok’s son, and Jonathan, Abiathar’s son; and by them ye shall send unto me everything that ye shall hear.
So Hushai, David’s friend, came into the city; and Absalom came into Jerusalem. So Hushai, David’s friend, came into the city; and Absalom came into Jerusalem.
