1 Joab was told, “Behold, the king weeps and mourns for Absalom.”And it was told Joab, Behold, the king weepeth and mourneth for Absalom.누군가 요압에게 전하였다. "보십시오, 왕께서 압살롬 때문에 울며 슬퍼하고 계십니다."
2 The victory that day was turned into mourning among all the people, for the people heard it said that day, “ The king grieves for his son.”And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people; for the people heard say that day, The king grieveth for his son.그날의 승리가 온 백성에게 슬픔으로 바뀌었다. 그날 백성이 "왕께서 자기 아들 때문에 비통해하신다"는 말을 들었기 때문이다.
3 The people sneaked into the city that day, as people who are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.And the people gat them by stealth that day into the city, as people that are ashamed steal away when they flee in battle.그날 백성은 전쟁에서 도망쳐 부끄러워하는 사람들처럼 슬그머니 성으로 숨어들었다.
4 The king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, “ My son Absalom, Absalom, my son, my son!”And the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom, O Absalom, my son, my son!왕은 얼굴을 가리고 큰 소리로 부르짖었다. "내 아들 압살롬아, 압살롬아, 내 아들아, 내 아들아!"
5 Joab came into the house to the king, and said, “Today you have shamed the faces of all your servants who today have saved your life, and the lives of your sons and of your daughters, and the lives of your wives, and the lives of your concubines;And Joab came into the house to the king, and said, Thou hast shamed this day the faces of all thy servants, who this day have saved thy life, and the lives of thy sons and of thy daughters, and the lives of thy wives, and the lives of thy concubines;요압이 그 집으로 왕에게 들어가 말하였다. "왕께서는 오늘 왕의 목숨과 왕의 아들들과 딸들의 목숨과 아내들의 목숨과 후궁들의 목숨을 구해 낸 모든 신하의 얼굴을 부끄럽게 하셨습니다.
6 in that you love those who hate you and hate those who love you. For you have declared today that princes and servants are nothing to you. For today I perceive that if Absalom had lived and we had all died today, then it would have pleased you well.in that thou lovest them that hate thee, and hatest them that love thee. For thou hast declared this day, that princes and servants are nought unto thee: for this day I perceive, that if Absalom had lived, and all we had died this day, then it had pleased thee well.왕을 미워하는 자들은 사랑하시고, 왕을 사랑하는 자들은 미워하시기 때문입니다. 오늘 왕께서는 지휘관들과 신하들이 왕께 아무것도 아님을 드러내셨습니다. 오늘 보니, 압살롬이 살고 우리가 모두 오늘 죽었더라면 왕께서 매우 기뻐하셨을 것 같습니다.
7 Now therefore arise, go out and speak to comfort your servants; for I swear by Yahweh, if you don’t go out, not a man will stay with you this night. That would be worse to you than all the evil that has happened to you from your youth until now.”Now therefore arise, go forth, and speak comfortably unto thy servants; for I swear by Jehovah, if thou go not forth, there will not tarry a man with thee this night: and that will be worse unto thee than all the evil that hath befallen thee from thy youth until now.그러니 이제 일어나 밖으로 나가서 신하들에게 위로의 말을 하십시오. 여호와를 두고 맹세하건대, 왕께서 나가지 않으시면 오늘 밤 한 사람도 왕과 함께 머물지 않을 것입니다. 그렇게 되면 왕께서 어릴 때부터 지금까지 당하신 그 모든 재앙보다 더 나쁜 일이 될 것입니다."
8 Then the king arose and sat in the gate. The people were all told, “Behold, the king is sitting in the gate.” All the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.Then the king arose, and sat in the gate. And they told unto all the people, saying, Behold, the king is sitting in the gate: and all the people came before the king. Now Israel had fled every man to his tent.그러자 왕이 일어나 성문에 앉았다. 사람들이 모든 백성에게 "보십시오, 왕께서 성문에 앉아 계십니다" 하고 전하니, 온 백성이 왕 앞으로 나아왔다. 한편 이스라엘은 저마다 자기 장막으로 도망쳐 있었다.
9 All the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, “ The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he has fled out of the land from Absalom.And all the people were at strife throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, The king delivered us out of the hand of our enemies, and he saved us out of the hand of the Philistines; and now he is fled out of the land from Absalom.이스라엘 모든 지파에서 온 백성이 서로 다투며 말하였다. "왕께서 우리를 원수들의 손에서 건져 내시고, 블레셋 사람들의 손에서 구해 내셨다. 그런데 이제 압살롬을 피하여 이 땅에서 떠나 도망치셨다.
10 Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why don’t you speak a word of bringing the king back?”And Absalom, whom we anointed over us, is dead in battle. Now therefore why speak ye not a word of bringing the king back?우리가 기름 부어 우리 위에 세웠던 압살롬은 전쟁에서 죽었다. 그러니 어찌하여 너희는 왕을 다시 모셔 오자는 말 한마디 하지 않느냐?"
11 King David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, “ Speak to the elders of Judah, saying, ‘ Why are you the last to bring the king back to his house, since the speech of all Israel has come to the king, to return him to his house?And king David sent to Zadok and to Abiathar the priests, saying, Speak unto the elders of Judah, saying, Why are ye the last to bring the king back to his house? seeing the speech of all Israel is come to the king, to bring him to his house.다윗 왕이 제사장 사독과 아비아달에게 사람을 보내어 말하였다. "유다 장로들에게 이렇게 전하시오. '온 이스라엘의 말이 이미 왕께 이르러 왕을 그 집으로 모셔 오자고 하는데, 어찌하여 너희가 왕을 그 집으로 모셔 오는 일에 가장 뒤처지느냐?
12 You are my brothers. You are my bone and my flesh. Why then are you the last to bring back the king?’Ye are my brethren, ye are my bone and my flesh: wherefore then are ye the last to bring back the king?너희는 내 형제요, 내 뼈요 내 살이다. 그런데 어찌하여 너희가 왕을 모셔 오는 일에 가장 뒤처지느냐?'
13 Say to Amasa, ‘Aren’t you my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if you aren’t captain of the army before me continually instead of Joab.’”And say ye to Amasa, Art thou not my bone and my flesh? God do so to me, and more also, if thou be not captain of the host before me continually in the room of Joab.또 아마사에게는 이렇게 말하시오. '너는 내 뼈요 내 살이 아니냐? 네가 요압을 대신하여 내 앞에서 항상 군대 지휘관이 되지 않는다면, 하나님께서 내게 벌을 내리시고 더 내리셔도 좋다.'"
14 He bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as one man, so that they sent to the king, saying, “ Return, you and all your servants.”And he bowed the heart of all the men of Judah, even as the heart of one man; so that they sent unto the king, saying, Return thou, and all thy servants.다윗이 유다 모든 사람의 마음을 한 사람의 마음처럼 기울이니, 그들이 왕에게 사람을 보내어 말하였다. "왕과 왕의 모든 신하는 돌아오십시오."
15 So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.So the king returned, and came to the Jordan. And Judah came to Gilgal, to go to meet the king, to bring the king over the Jordan.그래서 왕이 돌아와 요단 강에 이르렀다. 유다 사람들이 왕을 맞이하여 요단 강을 건너게 하려고 길갈로 나왔다.
16 Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hurried and came down with the men of Judah to meet King David.And Shimei the son of Gera, the Benjamite, who was of Bahurim, hasted and came down with the men of Judah to meet king David.바후림 출신 베냐민 사람 게라의 아들 시므이가 서둘러 유다 사람들과 함께 내려와 다윗 왕을 맞이하였다.
17 There were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of Saul’s house, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.And there were a thousand men of Benjamin with him, and Ziba the servant of the house of Saul, and his fifteen sons and his twenty servants with him; and they went through the Jordan in the presence of the king.그와 함께 베냐민 사람 천 명이 있었고, 사울 집안의 종 시바도 그의 아들 열다섯 명과 종 스무 명을 데리고 함께 와서 왕이 보는 앞에서 요단 강을 건넜다.
18 A ferry boat went to bring over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king when he had come over the Jordan.And there went over a ferry-boat to bring over the king’s household, and to do what he thought good. And Shimei the son of Gera fell down before the king, when he was come over the Jordan.나룻배 한 척이 건너가 왕의 가족을 건네주고 왕이 좋게 여기는 일을 하려 하였다. 게라의 아들 시므이가 요단 강을 건너오자 왕 앞에 엎드려
19 He said to the king, “Don’t let my lord impute iniquity to me, or remember that which your servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.And he said unto the king, Let not my lord impute iniquity unto me, neither do thou remember that which thy servant did perversely the day that my lord the king went out of Jerusalem, that the king should take it to his heart.왕께 말하였다. "내 주님, 제게 죄를 묻지 마시고, 제 주 왕께서 예루살렘을 떠나시던 날 이 종이 비뚤어지게 행한 일을 기억하지 마시며, 왕께서 마음에 두지 마시기를 바랍니다.
20 For your servant knows that I have sinned. Therefore behold, I have come today as the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.”For thy servant doth know that I have sinned: therefore, behold, I am come this day the first of all the house of Joseph to go down to meet my lord the king.이 종은 제가 죄지은 것을 압니다. 그래서 보십시오, 오늘 제가 요셉 온 집안 가운데 가장 먼저 내려와 제 주 왕을 맞이합니다."
21 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, “Shouldn’t Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Yahweh’s anointed?”But Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered and said, Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed Jehovah’s anointed?그러나 스루야의 아들 아비새가 대답하였다. "시므이가 여호와의 기름 부음 받은 이를 저주하였으니, 이 일로 죽어 마땅하지 않습니까?"
22 David said, “ What have I to do with you, you sons of Zeruiah, that you should be adversaries to me today? Shall any man be put to death today in Israel? For don’t I know that I am king over Israel today?”And David said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah, that ye should this day be adversaries unto me? shall there any man be put to death this day in Israel? for do not I know that I am this day king over Israel?다윗이 말하였다. "스루야의 아들들이여, 내가 너희와 무슨 상관이 있느냐? 어찌하여 너희가 오늘 내게 대적이 되려 하느냐? 오늘 이스라엘에서 사람이 죽임을 당해서야 되겠느냐? 오늘 내가 이스라엘의 왕이 된 것을 내가 알지 못하겠느냐?"
23 The king said to Shimei, “ You will not die.” The king swore to him.And the king said unto Shimei, Thou shalt not die. And the king sware unto him.그러고서 왕이 시므이에게 말하였다. "너는 죽지 않을 것이다." 왕이 그에게 맹세하였다.
24 Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither groomed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.And Mephibosheth the son of Saul came down to meet the king; and he had neither dressed his feet, nor trimmed his beard, nor washed his clothes, from the day the king departed until the day he came home in peace.사울의 손자 므비보셋이 왕을 맞이하러 내려왔다. 그는 왕이 떠나던 날부터 평안히 돌아오는 날까지 발을 씻지도, 수염을 다듬지도, 옷을 빨지도 않은 채였다.
25 When he had come to Jerusalem to meet the king, the king said to him, “ Why didn’t you go with me, Mephibosheth?”And it came to pass, when he was come to Jerusalem to meet the king, that the king said unto him, Wherefore wentest not thou with me, Mephibosheth?그가 예루살렘에서 왕을 맞이하러 왔을 때, 왕이 그에게 말하였다. "므비보셋아, 너는 어찌하여 나와 함께 가지 않았느냐?"
26 He answered, “ My lord, O king, my servant deceived me. For your servant said, ‘ I will saddle a donkey for myself, that I may ride on it and go with the king,’ because your servant is lame.And he answered, My lord, O king, my servant deceived me: for thy servant said, I will saddle me an ass, that I may ride thereon, and go with the king; because thy servant is lame.그가 대답하였다. "내 주 왕이여, 제 종이 저를 속였습니다. 이 종은 다리를 절기에 '나귀에 안장을 얹어 그것을 타고 왕과 함께 가겠다'고 말하였으나,
27 He has slandered your servant to my lord the king, but my lord the king is as an angel of God. Therefore do what is good in your eyes.And he hath slandered thy servant unto my lord the king; but my lord the king is as an angel of God: do therefore what is good in thine eyes.그가 이 종을 제 주 왕께 모함하였습니다. 그러나 제 주 왕께서는 하나님의 천사와 같으시니, 왕께서 보시기에 좋은 대로 행하십시오.
28 For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet you set your servant among those who ate at your own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should appeal any more to the king?”For all my father’s house were but dead men before my lord the king; yet didst thou set thy servant among them that did eat at thine own table. What right therefore have I yet that I should cry any more unto the king?제 아버지의 온 집안은 제 주 왕 앞에서 죽은 사람에 불과하였으나, 왕께서는 이 종을 왕의 상에서 함께 먹는 사람 가운데 두셨습니다. 그러니 제게 무슨 권리가 더 있어서 왕께 더 부르짖겠습니까?"
29 The king said to him, “ Why do you speak any more of your matters? I say, you and Ziba divide the land.”And the king said unto him, Why speakest thou any more of thy matters? I say, Thou and Ziba divide the land.왕이 그에게 말하였다. "어찌하여 네 일을 더 말하느냐? 내가 말하노니, 너와 시바가 그 땅을 나누어라."
30 Mephibosheth said to the king, “Yes, let him take all, because my lord the king has come in peace to his own house.”And Mephibosheth said unto the king, yea, let him take all, forasmuch as my lord the king is come in peace unto his own house.므비보셋이 왕에게 말하였다. "제 주 왕께서 평안히 자기 집으로 돌아오셨으니, 그가 다 가져도 좋습니다."
31 Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king to conduct him over the Jordan.And Barzillai the Gileadite came down from Rogelim; and he went over the Jordan with the king, to conduct him over the Jordan.길르앗 사람 바르실래가 로글림에서 내려와 왕과 함께 요단 강을 건너며 왕을 강 건너편까지 배웅하였다.
32 Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even eighty years old. He had provided the king with sustenance while he stayed at Mahanaim, for he was a very great man.Now Barzillai was a very aged man, even fourscore years old: and he had provided the king with sustenance while he lay at Mahanaim; for he was a very great man.바르실래는 여든 살이나 된 매우 나이 많은 사람으로, 왕이 마하나임에 머물 때 왕에게 양식을 공급해 준 사람이었으니, 그는 매우 큰 사람이었다.
33 The king said to Barzillai, “Come over with me, and I will sustain you with me in Jerusalem.”And the king said unto Barzillai, Come thou over with me, and I will sustain thee with me in Jerusalem.왕이 바르실래에게 말하였다. "나와 함께 건너가자. 내가 예루살렘에서 너를 나와 함께 봉양하겠다."
34 Barzillai said to the king, “How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king to Jerusalem?And Barzillai said unto the king, How many are the days of the years of my life, that I should go up with the king unto Jerusalem?바르실래가 왕에게 말하였다. "제가 왕과 함께 예루살렘으로 올라간들, 제 평생의 햇수가 얼마나 남았겠습니까?
35 I am eighty years old, today. Can I discern between good and bad? Can your servant taste what I eat or what I drink? Can I hear the voice of singing men and singing women any more? Why then should your servant be a burden to my lord the king?I am this day fourscore years old: can I discern between good and bad? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?제가 오늘 여든 살이니, 좋고 나쁜 것을 분별할 수 있겠습니까? 이 종이 먹고 마시는 것을 맛볼 수 있겠습니까? 노래하는 남녀의 소리를 다시 들을 수 있겠습니까? 그런데 어찌하여 이 종이 제 주 왕께 짐이 되겠습니까?
36 Your servant will just go over the Jordan with the king. Why should the king repay me with such a reward?Thy servant would but just go over the Jordan with the king: and why should the king recompense it me with such a reward?이 종은 그저 왕과 함께 요단 강만 건너려 했을 뿐인데, 어찌하여 왕께서 제게 이런 큰 상을 갚으려 하십니까?
37 Please let your servant turn back again, that I may die in my own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, your servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good to you.”Let thy servant, I pray thee, turn back again, that I may die in mine own city, by the grave of my father and my mother. But behold, thy servant Chimham; let him go over with my lord the king; and do to him what shall seem good unto thee.부디 이 종을 돌아가게 하여, 제 아버지와 어머니의 무덤 곁 제 고향 성에서 죽게 해 주십시오. 그러나 보십시오, 왕의 종 김함이 여기 있으니, 그를 제 주 왕과 함께 건너가게 하시고, 왕께서 보시기에 좋은 대로 그에게 행하십시오."
38 The king answered, “ Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good to you. Whatever you request of me, that I will do for you.”And the king answered, Chimham shall go over with me, and I will do to him that which shall seem good unto thee: and whatsoever thou shalt require of me, that will I do for thee.왕이 대답하였다. "김함이 나와 함께 건너갈 것이다. 내가 네 보기에 좋은 대로 그에게 행하겠고, 네가 내게 무엇을 요청하든지 너를 위하여 그대로 하겠다."
39 All the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over. Then the king kissed Barzillai and blessed him; and he returned to his own place.And all the people went over the Jordan, and the king went over: and the king kissed Barzillai, and blessed him; and he returned unto his own place.온 백성이 요단 강을 건너고 왕도 건넜다. 그러고서 왕이 바르실래에게 입을 맞추고 그를 축복하니, 그가 자기 고향으로 돌아갔다.
40 So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him. All the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.So the king went over to Gilgal, and Chimham went over with him: and all the people of Judah brought the king over, and also half the people of Israel.그리하여 왕이 길갈로 건너갔고, 김함도 그와 함께 건너갔다. 유다 온 백성과 이스라엘 백성의 절반도 왕을 건너오게 하였다.
41 Behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said to the king, “Why have our brothers the men of Judah stolen you away, and brought the king and his household, over the Jordan, and all David’s men with him?”And, behold, all the men of Israel came to the king, and said unto the king, Why have our brethren the men of Judah stolen thee away, and brought the king, and his household, over the Jordan, and all David’s men with him?보라, 이스라엘 모든 사람이 왕에게 와서 왕께 말하였다. "어찌하여 우리 형제 유다 사람들이 왕을 몰래 빼돌려, 왕과 그 가족과 다윗의 모든 사람을 요단 강 건너로 모셔 왔습니까?"
42 All the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, “ Because the king is a close relative to us. Why then are you angry about this matter? Have we eaten at all at the king’s cost? Or has he given us any gift?”And all the men of Judah answered the men of Israel, Because the king is near of kin to us: wherefore then are ye angry for this matter? have we eaten at all at the king’s cost? or hath he given us any gift?유다 모든 사람이 이스라엘 사람들에게 대답하였다. "왕께서 우리와 가까운 친척이시기 때문이오. 그런데 어찌하여 이 일로 화를 내시오? 우리가 왕의 비용으로 무엇을 먹기라도 하였소? 아니면 왕께서 우리에게 무슨 선물이라도 주셨소?"
43 The men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, “ We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more claim to David than you. Why then did you despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king?” The words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.And the men of Israel answered the men of Judah, and said, We have ten parts in the king, and we have also more right in David than ye: why then did ye despise us, that our advice should not be first had in bringing back our king? And the words of the men of Judah were fiercer than the words of the men of Israel.이스라엘 사람들이 유다 사람들에게 대답하여 말하였다. "우리에게는 왕에 대한 몫이 열이나 있고, 다윗에 대하여도 너희보다 더 많은 권리가 있다. 그런데 어찌하여 너희가 우리를 무시하여, 우리 왕을 다시 모셔 오는 일에 우리 의견을 먼저 듣지 않았느냐?" 그러나 유다 사람들의 말이 이스라엘 사람들의 말보다 더 거셌다.
