1 There happened to be there a wicked fellow, whose name was Sheba the son of Bichri, a Benjamite; and he blew the trumpet, and said, “ We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse. Every man to his tents, Israel!”And there happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.마침 그곳에 비천한 사람 하나가 있었는데, 그는 베냐민 사람 비그리의 아들 세바였다. 그가 나팔을 불며 말하였다. "우리는 다윗에게서 받을 몫이 없고, 이새의 아들에게서 받을 유산도 없다. 이스라엘아, 모두 자기 장막으로 돌아가라!"
2 So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah joined with their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.So all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.그래서 이스라엘 모든 사람이 다윗에게서 떠나 비그리의 아들 세바를 따라갔으나, 유다 사람들은 요단강에서부터 예루살렘까지 자기들의 왕에게 굳게 붙어 따랐다.
3 David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in custody and provided them with sustenance, but didn’t go in to them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.다윗이 예루살렘에 있는 자기 집으로 돌아왔다. 왕은 집을 지키게 하려고 남겨 두었던 후궁 열 명을 데려다가 별실에 가두고 먹을 것을 주었으나, 그들과 잠자리를 같이하지는 않았다. 그래서 그들은 죽는 날까지 갇혀 지내며 과부처럼 살았다.
4 Then the king said to Amasa, “ Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be here present.”Then said the king to Amasa, Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be thou here present.그때에 왕이 아마사에게 말하였다. "사흘 안에 유다 사람들을 불러 모아 여기로 데려오너라."
5 So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together, but he stayed longer than the set time which had been appointed to him.So Amasa went to call the men of Judah together; but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.그래서 아마사가 유다 사람들을 불러 모으러 갔으나, 왕이 정해 준 기한보다 더 오래 지체하였다.
6 David said to Abishai, “ Now Sheba the son of Bichri will do us more harm than Absalom did. Take your lord’s servants and pursue after him, lest he get himself fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.”And David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lord’s servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.다윗이 아비새에게 말하였다. "이제 비그리의 아들 세바가 압살롬보다 우리에게 더 큰 해를 끼칠 것이다. 너는 네 주의 신하들을 데리고 그를 뒤쫓아라. 그가 견고한 성읍들에 들어가 우리 눈앞에서 벗어나지 못하게 하여라."
7 Joab’s men went out after him with the Cherethites, the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.And there went out after him Joab’s men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.그리하여 요압의 부하들과 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람과 모든 용사들이 그를 뒤쫓아 나갔다. 그들은 비그리의 아들 세바를 뒤쫓으려고 예루살렘에서 나갔다.
8 When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. Joab was clothed in his apparel of war that he had put on, and on it was a sash with a sword fastened on his waist in its sheath; and as he went along it fell out.When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.그들이 기브온에 있는 큰 바위 곁에 이르렀을 때에 아마사가 그들을 맞으러 왔다. 요압은 입었던 군복을 걸치고 그 위에 띠를 두르고 있었는데, 그 띠에는 칼집에 든 칼이 허리에 매여 있었다. 그가 앞으로 나아갈 때에 그 칼이 빠져 떨어졌다.
9 Joab said to Amasa, “ Is it well with you, my brother?” Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.And Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with thee, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.요압이 아마사에게 말하였다. "내 형제여, 평안한가?" 그러고는 요압이 오른손으로 아마사의 수염을 잡고 입을 맞추려 하였다.
10 But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab’s hand. So he struck him with it in the body and shed out his bowels to the ground, and didn’t strike him again; and he died. Joab and Abishai his brother pursued Sheba the son of Bichri.But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab’s hand: so he smote him therewith in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.그러나 아마사는 요압의 손에 든 칼을 조심하지 않았다. 요압이 그 칼로 아마사의 배를 찌르니, 창자가 땅에 쏟아져 나왔다. 다시 찌를 것도 없이 아마사는 죽었다. 요압과 그의 형제 아비새는 비그리의 아들 세바를 계속 뒤쫓았다.
11 One of Joab’s young men stood by him, and said, “ He who favors Joab, and he who is for David, let him follow Joab!”And there stood by him one of Joab’s young men, and said, He that favoreth Joab, and he that is for David, let him follow Joab.요압의 부하 한 사람이 아마사 곁에 서서 말하였다. "요압을 좋아하는 자와 다윗을 위하는 자는 요압을 따르라!"
12 Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the middle of the highway. When the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him when he saw that everyone who came by him stood still.And Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.아마사는 한길 한가운데서 피에 뒹굴고 있었다. 그 사람이, 지나가는 모든 백성이 멈춰 서는 것을 보고는, 아마사를 한길에서 들로 옮기고 그 위에 옷을 덮었다. 곁을 지나는 사람마다 멈춰 서는 것을 보았기 때문이다.
13 When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab to pursue Sheba the son of Bichri.When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.아마사가 한길에서 치워지자, 모든 백성이 요압을 뒤따라 비그리의 아들 세바를 뒤쫓아 나아갔다.
14 He went through all the tribes of Israel to Abel, to Beth Maacah, and all the Berites. They were gathered together, and went also after him.And he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Beth-maacah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.세바는 이스라엘 모든 지파를 두루 거쳐 아벨과 벧마아가와 온 베림 땅에 이르렀고, 그들이 다 함께 모여 그를 따라갔다.
15 They came and besieged him in Abel of Beth Maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people who were with Joab battered the wall to throw it down.And they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.요압의 무리가 와서 벧마아가의 아벨에서 세바를 에워싸고, 성을 향하여 토성을 쌓으니 그것이 외벽에 닿았다. 요압과 함께한 모든 백성이 성벽을 허물려고 두들겨 부수었다.
16 Then a wise woman cried out of the city, “ Hear, hear! Please say to Joab, ‘ Come near here, that I may speak with you.’”Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.그때에 지혜로운 여인 하나가 성에서 외쳤다. "들으시오, 들으시오! 부디 요압에게 전해 주시오. '이리로 가까이 오시오. 내가 당신과 말하려 하오.'"
17 He came near to her; and the woman said, “ Are you Joab?” He answered, “ I am.” Then she said to him, “ Hear the words of your servant.” He answered, “ I’m listening.”And he came near unto her; and the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thy handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.요압이 그 여인에게 가까이 가니, 여인이 말하였다. "당신이 요압이오?" 그가 대답하였다. "그렇소." 그러자 여인이 그에게 말하였다. "당신의 여종이 드리는 말을 들으시오." 그가 대답하였다. "내가 듣고 있소."
18 Then she spoke, saying, “ They used to say in old times, ‘ They shall surely ask counsel at Abel,’ and so they settled a matter.Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter.그러자 여인이 말하였다. "옛적에 사람들이 이런 말을 하곤 했소. '아벨에 가서 물어보면 틀림없이 답을 얻으리라.' 그렇게 하여 그들은 일을 매듭지었소.
19 I am among those who are peaceable and faithful in Israel. You seek to destroy a city and a mother in Israel. Why will you swallow up Yahweh’s inheritance?”I am of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?나는 이스라엘에서 화평하고 진실한 자들 가운데 하나요. 그런데 당신은 이스라엘의 어머니가 되는 한 성을 멸하려 하니, 어찌하여 여호와의 유산을 삼키려 하오?"
20 Joab answered, “ Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.요압이 대답하였다. "결코 그럴 수 없소. 내가 삼키거나 멸하는 일은 결코 없을 것이오.
21 The matter is not so. But a man of the hill country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, has lifted up his hand against the king, even against David. Just deliver him, and I will depart from the city.” The woman said to Joab, “ Behold, his head will be thrown to you over the wall.”The matter is not so: but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.그런 일이 아니오. 다만 에브라임 산지 사람 비그리의 아들 세바라 하는 자가 왕을, 곧 다윗을 거역하여 손을 들었소. 그 사람 하나만 넘겨주면 내가 이 성에서 떠나겠소." 여인이 요압에게 말하였다. "보시오, 그의 머리를 성벽 너머로 당신에게 던져 주리다."
22 Then the woman went to all the people in her wisdom. They cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. He blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. Then Joab returned to Jerusalem to the king.Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.그러고는 여인이 지혜롭게 모든 백성에게 가서 말하니, 그들이 비그리의 아들 세바의 머리를 베어 요압에게 던져 주었다. 요압이 나팔을 불자, 무리가 그 성에서 흩어져 저마다 자기 장막으로 돌아갔다. 요압은 예루살렘으로 돌아가 왕에게 갔다.
23 Now Joab was over all the army of Israel, Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites,Now Joab was over all the host of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;그때에 요압은 이스라엘 온 군대를 거느렸고, 여호야다의 아들 브나야는 그렛 사람과 블렛 사람을 거느렸으며,
24 Adoram was over the men subject to forced labor, Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder,and Adoram was over the men subject to taskwork; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;아도람은 노역하는 사람들을 거느렸고, 아힐룻의 아들 여호사밧은 사관이 되었으며,
25 Sheva was scribe, Zadok and Abiathar were priests,and Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;스와는 서기관이 되었고, 사독과 아비아달은 제사장이 되었으며,
26 and Ira the Jairite was chief minister to David.and also Ira the Jairite was chief minister unto David.야일 사람 이라는 다윗의 대신이 되었다.
