2 David said, “ I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent by his servants to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.And David said, I will show kindness unto Hanun the son of Nahash, as his father showed kindness unto me. And David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon.다윗이 말하기를 "그의 아버지가 내게 호의를 베풀었으니, 나도 나하스의 아들 하눈에게 호의를 베풀겠다" 하고, 그의 아버지의 일에 대해 위로하려고 자기 신하들을 보내었다. 다윗의 신하들이 암몬 자손의 땅으로 들어갔다.
3 But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “ Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Hasn’t David sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”But the princes of the children of Ammon said unto Hanun their lord, Thinkest thou that David doth honor thy father, in that he hath sent comforters unto thee? hath not David sent his servants unto thee to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?그러나 암몬 자손의 고관들이 그들의 주군 하눈에게 말하기를 "다윗이 위로하는 자들을 당신에게 보낸 것이 정말 당신의 아버지를 공경해서라고 생각하십니까? 다윗이 이 성을 살피고 정탐하여 무너뜨리려고 그의 신하들을 당신에게 보낸 것이 아닙니까?" 하였다.

5 When they told David this, he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “ Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”When they told it unto David, he sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. And the king said, Tarry at Jericho until your beards be grown, and then return.사람들이 이 일을 다윗에게 알리자, 다윗이 그들을 맞이하려고 사람을 보내었다. 그 사람들이 크게 수치를 당하였기 때문이다. 왕이 말하기를 "너희 수염이 다시 자랄 때까지 여리고에 머물렀다가 돌아오라" 하였다.
6 When the children of Ammon saw that they had become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth Rehob and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with one thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.And when the children of Ammon saw that they were become odious to David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zobah, twenty thousand footmen, and the king of Maacah with a thousand men, and the men of Tob twelve thousand men.암몬 자손이 자기들이 다윗에게 미움을 사게 된 것을 보고, 사람을 보내어 벧르홉의 아람 사람과 소바의 아람 사람 보병 이만 명과 마아가 왕과 그의 천 명과 돕 사람 만 이천 명을 고용하였다.
7 When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the host of the mighty men.다윗이 이 소식을 듣고 요압과 모든 용사의 군대를 보내었다.
8 The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entrance of the gate. 11 He said, “ If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you.And he said, If the Syrians be too strong for me, then thou shalt help me; but if the children of Ammon be too strong for thee, then I will come and help thee.요압이 말하기를 "만일 아람 사람이 나보다 강하면 네가 나를 도우라. 그러나 만일 암몬 자손이 너보다 강하면 내가 가서 너를 돕겠다.
12 Be courageous, and let’s be strong for our people and for the cities of our God; and may Yahweh do what seems good to him.”Be of good courage, and let us play the man for our people, and for the cities of our God: and Jehovah do that which seemeth him good.담대하라. 우리 백성과 우리 하나님의 성읍들을 위하여 우리가 강해지자. 여호와께서 자기 보시기에 좋은 대로 행하시기를 바란다" 하였다.
13 So Joab and the people who were with him came near to the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.So Joab and the people that were with him drew nigh unto the battle against the Syrians: and they fled before him.그래서 요압과 그와 함께한 백성이 아람 사람과 싸우려고 다가가니, 아람 사람이 그 앞에서 도망하였다.
14 When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon and came to Jerusalem.And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians were fled, they likewise fled before Abishai, and entered into the city. Then Joab returned from the children of Ammon, and came to Jerusalem.암몬 자손이 아람 사람이 도망하는 것을 보고 그들도 아비새 앞에서 도망하여 성으로 들어갔다. 그러자 요압이 암몬 자손에게서 돌아와 예루살렘으로 왔다.
15 When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they gathered themselves together.And when the Syrians saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they gathered themselves together.아람 사람이 자기들이 이스라엘에게 패한 것을 보고 다시 함께 모였다.
16 Hadadezer sent and brought out the Syrians who were beyond the River; and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.And Hadarezer sent, and brought out the Syrians that were beyond the River: and they came to Helam, with Shobach the captain of the host of Hadarezer at their head.하닷에셀이 사람을 보내어 강 건너편에 있는 아람 사람들을 불러내니, 그들이 헬람으로 왔다. 하닷에셀의 군대 장관 소박이 그들을 거느렸다.
17 David was told that; and he gathered all Israel together, passed over the Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.이 일이 다윗에게 알려지자, 다윗이 온 이스라엘을 모아 요단을 건너 헬람에 이르렀다. 아람 사람이 다윗을 향하여 진을 치고 그와 싸웠다.
18 The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed seven hundred charioteers of the Syrians and forty thousand horsemen, and struck Shobach the captain of their army, so that he died there.And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew of the Syrians the men of seven hundred chariots, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their host, so that he died there.그러나 아람 사람이 이스라엘 앞에서 도망하니, 다윗이 아람 사람의 병거 칠백 대의 군사와 기병 사만 명을 죽이고 그들의 군대 장관 소박을 쳐서 거기서 죽게 하였다.
19 When all the kings who were servants to Hadadezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon any more.And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians feared to help the children of Ammon any more.하닷에셀의 신하였던 모든 왕이 자기들이 이스라엘 앞에서 패한 것을 보고 이스라엘과 화친하여 그들을 섬겼다. 그래서 아람 사람이 다시는 암몬 자손을 돕기를 두려워하였다.
